It surprises me that I am even writing a review but this kind of behavior cannot go unnoticed. There is a lady at the Metuchen, Nj location named "Alora" . For some odd reason she had a nasty attitude with me the other day about the "times" I use the facility . I wonder if she does this to others... For someone who has been loyal to Extra Space , pays their bills on time it was disappointing to see such low behavior from an employee . I almost never have to deal with staff as I do everything online and I am going to keep it that way ! It was almost borderline harassment what she was telling me & her nasty tone was very belittling. I'd leave no star if I could. I paid to be robbed by the staff. I had my unit at the 700 Green Ln in Union NJ and when I moved back to NJ from Charlotte I went to the facility to get my key and unload my unit. Items in my unit were gone from TV's (they left me with one tv that they broke), a desk, office chair, hand bags, my daughter's sneakers and boots, and more. I filed a police report as I was told to do as that was the only way to have the outside cameras reviewed. The staff weren't helpful and the officer confirmed what I knew that it was inside job. I knew it was because only they had the key. I was told to file an insurance claim and then was told because the lock wasn't cut but opened with a key they couldn't honor the claim. I've called the corporate office and was told the manager over that area would call me but no call. I called back was told the prior person didn't submit the request to call and still no call. Now off to the Better Business Bureau for help. read more

I had to sign up for another unit thru the website and charged again for"one time" administrative fees. Not the Friendly's people. Been renting a storage from this place for about a year or so. Have had some slight increases in price which is understandable. But yesterday, I get a small post card that says as of 12/1, my rate is going up to almost $160. They are almost doubling my rate!! Just like that! I call customer service and was informed that accounts are reviewed every "4-9 months and are adjusted to current market value". Does that even make sense?? Not to me! Sounds like greed to me. I give the place 2 stars for convenience and because customer service was easy to reach but to double my rate from one month to the next is crazy!! While I am appreciative of a unit to store my belongings while I am away, I am also very disappointed in the way they continue to raise prices for existing customers. How can current market value be $270 for one person and $404 for another. I could be a new customer, signing up for a 10x15, 1st floor, climate controlled unit, in the Girvin Area of Jacksonville FL and pay $276. However, I am an existing customer & my rates have increased twice in less than a year. I am now responsponsible for just over $400 a month. These amounts are based on "current market value". Well, here are some other prices I have seen in our area with their competitors: a 10x20 starts at $166 monthly for a new customer 10x15 starting at $143.40 10x15 starting at 139.00 I could go on. The starting prices are even lower in other facilities for the same amenities We have now experienced 2 increases; the first in 2023, and this one this month. Not to mention, there are several companies who only increase rates once a year. I have seen reviews where these competitors are more than happy to take on customers, and offer lower rates for the same amenities. They also state they only do rate increases once a year. So, how can this truly by "current market value" if it does not affect ALL storages facilities who offer the same products? My advice, look closely into who you choose. read more

I am very dissapointed with the service at this facility. My unit was supposed to be climate controlled but it was not. I rented unit 46 located in the Basement for over a year. It was supposed to be climate controlled but it wasn't. I found my stuff wet and damaged with mold which is the product of water seepage. The manager took pictures and I did too. She did not even try to touch my stuff. Through Extra Space Storage I bougth insurance from Beecher Carlson Insurance Services and filed a claim for the damage. I am still awaiting an answer!!! If you care about your belongings never bring your stuff to this facility. read more

I have used this storage facility for almost a year and the people who work here go above and beyond to help make sure that your Satisfied. I had lost my lock keys and Ashley along with the store manager happily cut the lock to my unit so I was able to enter. I will tell you that the unit itself is as clean as can be! My first experience moving items in wasn't the best. Some jackwagon had parked at the roll-up/loading area, unloaded his vehicle, and never came back. Made it necessary for me to unloading in the lot and then maneuver my items around his parked car. Can't recommend them at all. During the signup process there were hidden required monthly fees, but fine. I returned with my things to store and found the auto gate locked and inaccessible (I was told it was open later) but the pedestrian gate wide open and unlocked. No security in sight. The building, in addition to the grounds, was unlocked. I arrived to my unit to find they had forgotten to remove their padlock. This was in fact a blessing, since it forced me to return home with my items. The next morning I found a significantly less expensive, much more secure facility even closer to me. I've called and emailed, both this location and the national office, and only ever get weak or automated responses. I am annoyed to be losing the signup fee (since I can't make contact with them), but I would almost pay more NOT to be customer. I wasn't going to write this review at all and give them any more time, but one of their automated emails to me suggested I do so! read more
