Horrible place to store your extra stuff. One month we had to call in our payment and we came to find out that our unit had been broken into, two months ago. (we usually did automatic payment, but we got a new debit card, after my partner lost his). No phone call, No email, No contact from them telling us that this had occurred. We only find out after we called to make a payment. When we decided to move our stuff out, my partner went to get our payment pro-rated for the month, it was on a Saturday, when asked the date we were planning to move out my partner said, "Saturday," he was thinking that it was Friday. So they charged us for another week. After confronting about our error, they would not reimburse the difference. There excuse, "It had already gone to corporate." Bull! I would never store anything there again or do business with them. I told them that I would post a bad review on Yelp and their reply, "SO!" Bad company, bad company! read more

After 14 months of having rented our space, they've raised our rent 4 different times. They never mentioned that this rate increase would happen so quickly during our rental process. They said because of the "high-demand" of our space they have to raise the rent??!! The main office was so nice and they gave me a lock for free...how much better customer service can you get? The process was smooth signing up for a storage space. The owner and I joked about schools in the area and before we knew it it was time to go. The storage area, while small, was free for the first month and the duration I needed. The premises were clean and quiet; I checked my storage twice within that month and everything was okay. I rented a storage space last week from Norm. Very impressed with this place. We showed up on Sunday only to find the power out and no access. We were moving from N. CA and it was truly the move from hell. Norm met us at the unit and helped accomodate us in every way possible. Freezing cold and wind blowing like crazy and who is there but Norm with the family dog. Amazing how calming that beautiful bull dog was for all of us. This place is great. Shocker! they charged me for a month when I moved out. How did I hear about said non-payment, well I received their call from a collections company about owing money to Extra Space. Did Extra Space contact me for this payment, no. Did I ever have a late payment, no. So thank you Extra Storage for allowing this to go on my credit report, for "accidently" forgeting to stop my account and for the hastle of dealing with the collections company and your company after I had already paid. OMG they raised my rent again! They continue to raise the rent 2-3 times a year, yet there seems to be no appreciable reason. It's storage. There is not much maintenance on their part, they have even taken away the restrooms and trash! They are taking advantage of people desperate to hold onto meaningful items. If it wasn't for the memories, it would be cheaper to throw it all away and buy new items yearly as needed. read more

The operation hours are the best feature offered in my opinion. Living in Southern Calif. and dealing with the traffic and other challenges makes it a breath of fresh air when I can go in to my storage unit early in the morning or pretty late in the night 7 days a week. Quite a number of the other storage places out there have very limited operation hours which makes life an extra stress factor when trying to get things out or store my belongings. read more

My brother and I rented a space for our belongings and one car. The first plus was the staff. They were very friendly and took their time answering our questions as well as providing us with information that we didn't think to ask about. The next plus was the storage building. While our unit was on the second floor, the hardest part was walking up the stairs. We carried absolutely nothing up the stairs because there are freight elevators and carts to put your boxes or belongings onto. So while we had to walk up the stairs, we did it empty handed thus there wasn't any heavy lifting of the items up the stairs. I got a storage unit for a price of roughly $185 a month, and within about 14 months my monthly price for the same unit had been increased to about $310 a month... They raised the monthly rate by about $35 a month every 3 months, I asked why they would do that because it leaves customers no choice but to move out, and "he" stated they do it to help us, because we shouldn't be keeping stuff in storage.... I told him my stuff is in storage because my house burned down and he isn't helping me by raising the rates.... They are very confusing when it came down to the end as far as putting in the 10 day notice and timing with the billing cycle period.... for the last month I was paid up until the 5th of the month and then went to remove final stuff from unit on the 3rd and they had my account access denied because of a software communication problem between the local branch and the head customer service center, I had to sit on phone for 30 minutes just waiting for access.... Talked with neighbors who use different storage chain and they only give small inflation increase on their storage unit every 12 months...... Don't use this place..... read more

I reserved a unit online. Robert called me and was very nice on the phone and said that I needed to come down and see the unit before the move-in date. I arrived at the facility at 5:45 (I work until 5:00). I was told that they were closing at 6:00 and that there was not enough time to see the unit. I said we have 15 minutes before you close. The man refused and said I would have to come back. I said that was earliest I could get there before my move-in date Saturday, and his response was "I don't know what to tell you, the company doesn't give any overtime". I asked if I had to see the unit to rent it, and he said yes. I asked if I could come early before my movers and look at it and finalize everything, and he still refused. I said I guess I have no choice then to find a different storage place, and he said have a good evening. The most bizarre thing every...why would you turn away business? from what I am reading, maybe that is why they raise the rent as often as they do, because of all the business that is turned away, because the guy at the front desk doesn't want to be inconvenienced. read more
