Many extra space units over the years - for SHORT TERM it is fine - can set up online without any help from the office. the problem with EVERY extra space is this - the consistent pattern of INCREASING rates to us customers. Begin at $39 - in two MONTHS - it is $50 - then about a year or so later another $5 a month increase - I cannot stress this enough - EVERY EXTRA SPACE does this - I have had units for my business in Denver, LA, Connecticut, Washington and others - and EVERY one is the same - price increase in 2 months - then again in 10-15 months - and up and up - I have gone back and forth with their company to no avail - usually you can just switch a unit to get the lower rate - which i think is what they want - when you do not want to switch you pay the extra rate - "introductory" rates are misleading and many customers complain they did not know it was only 2 months - and for sure, Extra Space will not tell you there will be a rate increase in 2 months!!! then again and again - higher rates. Extra Space does not want long term renters, they want turn over to make money on locks or those of us with a great need and cannot switch units every two months to avoid the higher fees. My view is they have no interest in loyal customers - or long term renters - they just want to increase the rates on all to keep the money flowing- I will also say Extra Space says they raise rates to match "market rate" - which is interesting as the price NEVER GOES DOWN - even with 3 years of COVID _ read more

I had used them two years earlier and went to see them in September on short notice. I really needed a unit, couldn't find one on-line, so I went to the store. To my tremendous benefit, I spoke to a wonderful lady named Louise. She was very professional, quickly found me the size unit I needed at an amazing price. She explained everything to me about the contract, and it was in my email in-box before I got home. She showed me how to access the facility, took me to my unit, showed me how to enter the building, the carts and made my day. I was in need of a storage facility so I reserved on online. They don't have the largest one available so I reserved a medium size. Within hours, Cameron called and explained my reservation to me and answered my questions. He even told me that he has a large unit and gave me the price and promotional discounts. This place has rats. All our stuff had to be thrown away because it either got chewed up or pooped/pissed on. This is not a place you want to trust with your belongings. All the stuff we bought from hard work...ruined. The stuff that we treasured...ruined!!! Their contract states that they will not be responsible for this kind of things so we just have to take the lost!! read more

This storage facility is currently undergoing some sort of rat infestation. I rented a unit for only three months and to my dismay, my furniture, my mattress and box springs were covered in rat feces and urine. It was disgusting. I hired a steam cleaner to clean the bedding but I didn't realize the rat urine smell was so hard to clean out. Now my mattress and box spring has a permanent rat urine smell to it. The cleaning smell isn't much better. My whole house now has the smell of super strong deodorizer which in some ways is just as bad as the rat urine smell. All of this could have been avoided with better rodent control. When I informed the staff at the storage facility that my unit was infested, they were not surprised at all. It seems they were well aware that the facility had a serious rodent problem. They blamed the restaurants nearby and then they blamed other renters for storing food in the unit. Not once did they accept responsibility and apologize for the damage to my furniture and bedding. The top of each unit is not secured so rats can go from unit to unit. The staff informed me that company has looked into solutions. I count myself lucky. The unit two doors down had a major termite infestation and lost a bunch of furniture. He rented the unit for six months. I'm trying to get the bedding replaced but am not sure how that will go. The staff directed me to an outside insurer they made me sign up for. Even if they replace all of it I would never rent from this facility again. Who wants to return to their storage unit to find rats have already been there? Isn't the whole point of having off-site storage is having a safe and clean space to store one's items? 1/14/15 insurance update. WARNING! The insurance policy that Excess Space makes you sign up expressly excludes rodent damage. How convenient. read more

This place is so immaculate you could almost eat off the floors. Christina was the lady who helped me. She went over everything I needed to know and just couldn't have been friendlier. I didn't get the other lady's name but both of them.were so nice and helpful.The public areas and individual storage units are all in top shape, like brand new. No odors or bigs noted and cleaner than my house has ever been! This is the location in Kapolei behind Burger King and the Dialysis Center. Next to Seagull School. Rates are considerably lower than another place in Kapolei. But THEY offer you a "FREE" truck use for that extra $150 a month. That's ok. I have my own truck or can rent one at Home Depot for $50. Im.so happy I finally got the bullet and am.getting this stuff out of my way while we renovate. read more

We finally got all of our stuff in one state. After researching, site visits and feeling out the staff we chose this place. This place has the best staff. Willing to help, upfront about charges, no hidden fees, and free furniture covers! I think we lucked out on those though. Although our original unit we viewed was rented, the manager found us an even better unit much closer to the entrance. The manager was very attentive and helpful on move in day; however, not in a nosey way...you know how some people are. The facilities are well kept and clean, which is a huge plus for me. In less than 2 years, the monthly dues have gone up at least twice. And even though they are polite they will not work with you on the grace period in a late payments. We had only planned on having the unit for a short period of time, 6 months. It has now been 2 years. We live in washington. It was out mistake on renting a unit. He was professional, helpful, and concise, and he did a great job running the different payment options helping us to get the best deal for our money. The unit is clean and easily accessible, and security seems to be good. Being a military family we have used many storage facilities over the years so we know how standard operating facilities work and Extra Space Storage has got the competition beat. I needed to rent a storage unit so I could start the fun process of moving homes and actually thought I was going to the other Extra Space Storage that has better reviews - turns out they are really close to each other and I accidentally put in the address to this facility. It was a GREAT mistake on my part. I wasn't sure exactly what I needed in regards to the amount of space so Kellie (she was AWESOME!) showed me a few units and I picked out one that I thought would work well. The best part was they match the online price if you show them on your phone AND she totally found me a unit that had the first month's rent for free. As I started moving stuff in I realized I needed more room and again Kellie was super helpful in finding me another unit that was pretty close to the one I had been filling so moving was easy and again I got a nice deal with half off the first month's rent (I only ended up paying around $40 for the original unit for the admin fee and insurance thanks to that free month!). About a week and a half ago I found myself in a bind again as I unexpectedly needed a large unit that was accessible from the outside to move all my big furniture in to. I know how expensive those units can be and on top of that was worried they wouldn't have any available. I believe this time it was Veronica who helped me. She was great too and after I explained my situation and the short amount of time I needed the unit for she found me exactly what I asked for. Best part was she found a unit with a promo so I got the first month free again and just had to pay the insurance and admin fee. I only need the unit for about 2 weeks so it was somewhere around $50 total for a unit that runs almost $400 a month. Overall, I've been extremely impressed with the service. I had an issue with one of my codes not working and I called the help line and they connected me with someone who was able to give me a temporary code to use until the office reopened - it was less than 10 minutes to get the code which was fantastic because I had movers there waiting to unload. The facility is clean and very secure. My smaller unit is on the 3rd floor and just to get to it you have to go through the main gate using your code, then key your code in at a door to get in to the building and then key in your code AGAIN to get the elevator to go to your floor (it only goes to the floor your unit is on - since mine was on the 3rd floor so I couldn't get to the second floor even if I wanted to). The rates seem reasonable as well especially with the deals they have going - just remember to check online first. If I ever need storage again I'll be back to this place for sure!!! read more

If your on automatic payments and are planing to move out make sure u tell them before they run your card for the month - as they don't refund any unused potions. I was given incorrect information when I called to inquire about moving my things out and was only told a 5 day courtesy notice was needed and any unused portion would be refunded back to me. When I called to actually give my notice I was told no refunds are issued and I had paid for the whole month. That was upsetting as I paid for 3 weeks I don't need. read more

TERMITES!!! Facility admits they were there before I moved in. The mandatory insurance they force you to buy DOESN'T COVER IT. Basically, I paid them $1,000 to destroy my precious belongings: tax documents, out of print books, original works of fine art, family photos, wedding pictures, all irreplaceable, all destroyed. And even after they KNEW what happened, they still charged me for every day, until I was able to bag and remove all those boxes covered with swarming termite larvae from the unit. Then they "sprayed" it, to prepare for the next tenant. LOL!! BEWARE!! MAY THAT WHICH THEY DO UNTO OTHERS BE DONE UNTO THEM!!! read more

I really do love this place. We had our household goods all over the world. When we were finally able to consolidate it here in Kapolei, I started the task of interviewing facilities. Some were nice; others were fancy; some cheap; and some had the frills. But Extra Space storage had several features that beat the competition hands down....they explained their pricing honestly; kept great care of the facility; and the staff were nothing but spectacular. Wow! Not happy at all with Extra Space Storage in Kapolei. Back on Dec 19 or 20, I left two very nice Christmas decorations (sort of like nutcrackers with lights) in the hallway near my storage unit with a sign on it saying it was free to anyone who wanted them. Didn't want to throw them out because they were pretty unique for Christmas decorations. The manager alleges one of his people called my home and left a message that I needed to remove these items within 24hrs or I would be charged a removal fee. My wife said the only message we received was a call from Extra Space to call them back as soon as possible. Nothing about removal fees or deadlines. I did go back to get them but they were already gone. Today, Jan 4th, I get a call from the ES manager, Cameron, who tells me I owe them $150 for removing the items (which is highway robbery prices to begin with) and also I would not be able to get back into my unit until this was paid (sounds like extortion). I told him this was unfair because we never received the message he alludes to and also I went back to pick up the decorations but they were gone. My stuff has been in storage at Extra Space for at least 10 years without issues but do I get any benefit to our side of the story? Obviously not. I plan to move my stuff to another storage company soon. read more

I've been checking out the web for storage space in Kapolei and came across Extra Space Storage. On their website they advertised a 10x10 unit for $197.00 per month. I met with a representative at their facility to look at the unit and asked her if she could reserve it for me. She mentioned that they could hold it for me for 14 days and I told her that I would be back Friday to take care of paperwork and pay for the unit. I returned Friday to pay for my unit that she reserved and the price changed on me to $217. She said she wasn't sure why it changed but she couldn't change it back to $197. (common how can you tell me it can't be changed back to $197) She offered to give me half off on my first month but that wouldn't help me any cause I was looking for long term use. A jump in price of $20 a month sure makes a big difference over a long period of time. The person who helped me was very friendly and personable but it's bad business to advertise a price and change it on a customer when he comes back to give them his business. Wasted my time. What do they call that? Bait and Switch? Oh well, Kapolei has several other Storage Companies that wants my business. By the way, Extra Storage Space owns 2 Storage bldgs in Kapolei, 1 at 543 Farrington and the other at 590 Farrington Hwy same owner. They lost a would be loyal customer! read more
