The elevator need improvement I pay $500 every month and I can't get to my unit because the elevator is always out of order. And then the guy in the video think I just pay $500 a new month just to move my stuff out the unit which don't make any sense to me. Every time I go to get something from my unit the elevator is always out of service like McDonald ice cream machine literally. I'm getting over charged and they not using that money to put in for a new elevator. Instead they put the money in the pocket because this elevator only worked one time and that time is when I move my stuff in. read more

Office personnel is very service-oriented and knows the policies. I certainly trust him. Pricing is not inexpensive but I think that's the area. My only complaint (and not within ESS's realm) is some of the tenants are way too self-centered: they park without consideration for others who may also be trying to load or unload and they do not return the carts to the storage areas so that others can use them. Guess this type of behavior is reflective of today's world. That said, I do recommend ESS if you can tolerate the inconsiderate behavior of some of the tenants. read more

This location is conveniently located, and easy to navigate. Staff is available to assist, and friendly to boot!

Warning. DO NOT RENT HERE. Rented a small 5 x 10 storage unit for $90/mo in November 2023, by Feb 2024 they increased the rent to $190/mo. Beware that they can increase your rent as much as they want right after move in. Currently (as of 4/23/24) website lists this unit as $101/mo. Shady business here. Would recommend choosing somewhere else for storage solutions. Update 7/25/2024 - I did not have the time to move my stuff out of my unit and just received another rate increase to $275/mo. This is up from $90/mo just 8 months ago. Spoke to an attorney to see if this was legal, and apparently it is, but if this is a common business practice and has happened to a large group, then there may be cause for a class action suit against them. I rented a unit here with the internet rate. This was not a temporary rate. After six months the cost of the unit doubled. Absolutely no integrity as a company. The staff are very professional. read more

Overall good experience but bait and switch pricing. Bought into a unit at $157/month and after 2 months they increased the rate to $238/month. read more

Manager KIRK was awesome!!!! Switched storage units within the same area and Kirk was the best one to go to! Best service

I needed a space to store some of my belongings while finishing a contract in Palo Alto. I spoke w/ Kirk & he was very accommodating. Came in today to start the rental & of course met Kirk who is a helpful. All in all I feel safe & secure leaving my stuff. read more

Kudos to Kurt & Josh who made it possible and easy to arrange for a storage unit for my brother's international move to the US. Everything was done electronically and they allow boxes to be shipped prior to his arrival. Friendly and kind, highly recommend. read more

Good management, and easy access to whole facility. Very cleanly aswelll for a storage facility and well maintained.

Nice, clean place. Kirk was very helpful as we cleaned out a storage unit donating to our charity.

This is the best and friendly people that work there the only thing that I can say bad is sense the pandemic they started my rent there at over $250 and now they raised my rent to 288.10 and that makes it even harder for me to make ends meet. I am a disabled veteran on a very fixed income and I only have a 5×10unit read more

I've been using this storage facility for years and it has been a great experience. They've always been responsive and detail oriented. Rommel (Rom) is very professional and helpful. I strongly recommend using Extra Space Storage on E Bayshore in Palo Alto! read more

My college-aged son and his roommate stored some of their belongings here over the summer. They purchased a lock from the facility, which came with 2 keys, both remaining in my son's possession. When they returned, they found several of their boxes missing - just the smaller/easy to carry ones, which not coincidentally included valuable electronic items. There was no sign of forced entry on the lock, so their insurance claim was just denied because the 'burglary' definition includes 'forced entry'. Obviously then someone with a master key came in and stole their items. Perhaps a current employee. Perhaps a former. But regardless a high risk anyone renting from here should know about. If you do, bring your own lock and DO NOT purchase one from here because there is a loose master key floating around in possession of someone with access to the facility. read more

TERRIBLE. Had thousands of dollars worth of my belongings stolen, including some sentimental items from my father who passed away. This happened several months ago, and the Extra Space storage staff didn't record the incident the THREE times my sister and I called about it. This has delayed insurance claims. It also made me very suspicious about the staff. They recently hired a new manager who seems much better, asked legitimate questions and actually recorded the incident of theft. To me, it seems like the theft was an inside job with the previous staff. Also, when we opened our storage unit and found much stolen and broken, there was a box of someone else's crap in there too!!! Ridiculous. Do not use this place!!!! They also raised rates a ton in the time we used them. read more

I only used this service for a short while but I had a good experience. Friendly staff and best price around you can't beat it.

I reserved a spot 3 times. I go there during OPEN hours and no on is there. I then go back several days later and someone is there. So I try to go in and it's locked. I wait outside, and the person working didn't even make an effort to see if I needed help. He just sat there behind his desk. Obviously, this dude didn't need business or didn't even care. read more

*Expect your stuff to be STOLEN* They target units that are abandoned for a long time and that don't buy their insurance. I stored my stuff there when I was abroad and had items worth $1,500+ stolen. They were very sketchy about the details and refused to file a police report themselves. read more

I have been pretty happy with this company as a whole, so the two star rating is really over pricing. The MAJOR problem that have (and the reason why this is rated only 2 starts) is that they punish long term customers. Prices rise the LONGER you stay and that makes no sense. You get a great deal at Extra Space Storage if you stay for a month (practically FREE) or two (great rates) but after the 6 month mark prices rise and then do so at 12 months etc etc. To be fair, this is in the fine print, but had it been something clear that I had noticed when I signed it up it would have deterred me. The staff here is REALLY nice however. They remember you and are always helpful. The pricing issue is not their fault and they really deserve 5 stars. The only other complaint here is that the doors at the end of the complex do not stay open when you need to bring items in from outside. The magnet has been broken since I moved stuff in and it is quite annoying. read more

I really loved this place. I needed to store my stuff for two weeks as I moved, and it was a good experience. The business was very accommodating: the staff was very friendly, attentive, and helpful, and there are plenty of carts to help move your stuff. I also felt that my belongings were very safe, secured behind a code-access gate and under the watch of a number of security cameras. Though there are only three designated parking spots, you are welcome to park pretty much anywhere inside the gated area that's not in someone else's way. There were only a couple minor drawbacks. The pricing was fine for me as it was 'First Month Free*' (plus a $20 administrative fee and a $13 lock), but it seemed expensive compared to some of the other places I considered after that first month. Other than that, my only other complaint was that the hours (7a-7p) were a bit restrictive. Overall, I really enjoyed doing business with Extra Space Storage. I would definitely recommend it to a friend! read more

Easy convenient location, set up everything will take you 10 min, very professional and helpful employee! I'm renting a small closet and it's affordable for the area easy parking in front go in and out in No time. The only reason it's not a 5 stars is the number of parking spot in front to access the small storage area (2 parking spots only). read more

Jovita was very helpful. Everything is clean and well maintained. The location is also in a pretty good spot by the main highway, so easy for me to get in and out of there when I need to. read more

I have to say my experience here was great. Nate was so awesome and so helpful, Extremely professional I recommend coming here. Thank you Nate for my experience. read more

Like others have reviewed, the main drawback here is the constantly rising prices. While positioned as "we find it necessary to make an adjustment to your rental rate in order to keep up with the rising costs associated with providing top-notch service and a clean, secure facility" in their rate increase notice, it's all about supply and demand and a worker there told me as much. If they have a lot of demand they will raise the prices on everyone to help them squeeze as much profit as they can. A really frustrating experience and I would not recommend them. read more

Jovita gave me excellent service at Extra Space storage at 999 E Bayshore, Palo Alto. She showed me the unit and how to access the gate and inner door, showed me where the light switches are (VERY IMPORTANT!!!) and kindly took her time to add access for my son and to explain the lease agreement. I highly recommend Extra Space, and be sure to ask for Jovita! read more

This is a very secure unit, gated with lots of cameras. My unit is on the inside high seems to be built like a bunker. If a nuclear bomb was to hit, this is where I would run to. The customer service is top notch, they are very informative, knowledgable and probably the best customer service I've had in a while. Jovita was the one that helped us and she goes above and beyond to make sure are needs were met. I highly recommend this place. Oh before I forget this place had the best prices around. read more

Great overall experience. Desiree (I believe that's her name) was very pleasant and professional from beginning to end. The facility was very well maintained and felt secure, plus, the actual storage unit was very clean. I rented for only one month, so can't reference the reviews from others who mention issues with longer term leases. read more

Desiree was amazing. This was one of the best experiences ive had at almost any commercial setting! Highly recommended.

Well, I stored in this place for 2 months. First month was free, although they add some insurance + admin processing fee. It was $29. Next month was $55. A couple of points they should have mentioned were that insurance is added every month for $9 and that the first month is not *really* free. Anyway, it looks like some of the long-term storage users had some problems, but for short-term, I think this place is a good bet. I would suggest calling this place to get a good idea of how pricey it is for the amount of time you would like to store. The staff are really friendly as well (They called me before the rent was due so that I could avoid a late fee too). Overall good experience. read more

So I'm a dummy and I lost the key to the lock on my storage room, but luckily, Jovita is a master lock terminator. She dropped what she was doing and immediately helped us. Very grateful and I would recommend this location to anyone looking for quality service and friendly faces! read more

Alicia, the store manager, was extremely helpful in advising us on our options. We've had a large unit for four years and realized that our stuff would actually fit in a unit half that size (and less than 1/3 of the cost!) and she made the transition seamless. She's got great customer service skills in addition to keeping the place spic and span. read more
