We have used this place in the past with no issues. This year they wouldn't let us stay in drivers seat to hold the RPM. Who ever was there - Didn't know how to even open the hood. Nor how to keep an engine running on a clutch and hold it at RPM. It is a stick shift 95 wrangler. He also did not close the hood correctly. We took it to our mechanic just in case, and the first thing he did was take it to a smog to have it done and it passed with no issues. Express smog on Stephanie failed it because they did not know how to hold the engine at proper RPM. If I could get a hold of somebody I would definitely ask for my money back read more

I pulled up as the attendant was finishing up another customer. It didn't take very long. My husband and I were getting ours done at the same time. She was quick and efficient. While we were waiting for our vehicles, many customers pulled up for service. I'm assuming this location is always like this being located across from the DMV. I took my boyfriends car here the other day. I pulled in to the spot as soon as the car pulled out. This car is not by any means quiet - so I was a little confused when the tech did not come out. My daughter and I sat there for a good 5 minutes, with the window down and still nothing until I got out of the car to say hello. I heard him sigh, kick his chair and finally come out. He asked to pop the hood, and nothing else. I asked how much it was going to cost, he finally answered $25.00. The process was fast, and I sat there waiting longer than the smog actually took. When he finally took my payment (debt card) he pointed to the sign that stated: debit/credit $1.00 and asked if that was okay. I've used this N Stephanie St location several times in the past couple years, so I intentionally came back to them this time, even though it was about 15 minutes out of my way. I arrived at about 3:15PM on a Friday. The "OPEN" sign was lit, their Express Smog van was parked just to the left of the business, with a window down, and what I assume to have been the employee's old pickup truck, with windows down, was parked on the other side of the van, but the building's door was closed. I pulled-up as-usual & waited for a minute. No one came out, so I knocked on the door & waited. No answer. I stood around for a couple more minutes before I left. Unless the service tech was keeled-over dead or dying inside the shack, I assume he or she was nearby, going to the bathroom, getting some food, or whatever, but I had eyes-on the structure for a total time of almost 10 minutes, and no one was around during that time. If the service tech needs to go on a break, that's perfectly understandable -- but leave a ^%$#* sign on the door stating you'll be back in 5 or 10 minutes, and try to keep an eye on the place, so if a customer does show-up, you can come back out or at least yell that you'll be back in a few min. I would have been fine with that. But based on you wasting my time & mileage yesterday afternoon, I am very happy to spend some of my time today giving an honest report of my experience, and I will not come back to your business because I simply can't trust that your business will actually be open during your posted business hours. As it was, I went to the nearby Jiffy Smog on American Pacific Drive, and had my smog check completed in less time than I wasted standing around at this Express Smog location looking/waiting for an employee. read more

Went there looking to get a smog because I had a coupon. Being young and this being my second smog ever I walked up to make sure I knew how things worked. I waited patiently as he finished with the other customer. After they left the man looked at me and then pointed at some parked van and couldn't say one word to me. No smile no give me a second, no nothing. So I said screw it and I went across the street to the shell and was greeted with smiles and hellos and even told me they would take whatever coupon I had. So long story short don't waste your time here. Also the woman in front of me what getting her smog for like 7-8 minutes and across the street I was in and out in under 2 minutes. It's that time of the year again-- car registration renewal! The minute I see that little postcard telling me that I need to get a smog check and spend my day at the DMV, just ruins my day. Ugh. It just so happened that in the same stack of mail, I also saw a mailer for Express Smog. The special rate was $16.99 versus the original price of $19.99. I decided to wake up early on Saturday. Well after a relaxing breakfast and doing some laundry, getting an early start at the smog place turned into noon. Doh! I was stressing out that I was going to run out of time and not make it to the DMV by the end of the day. I arrived at Express Smog (located in front of Qdoba in the Walmart shopping center) and saw a line about three cars deep. I waited patiently in the AC of my car until they were ready for me to pull up. They took my DMV paperwork and my coupon. My car was done in under 10 minutes! Afterwards, he handed me the paperwork and I was on my way. The guy working there overheard that I was heading over to the DMV to get my tags and said that he could do the registration for me for $10. I started thinking about how difficult it is to find parking at the Stephanie DMV and decided to just do it here for $10 to save my sanity. Literally two minutes later, he gave me all of my receipts and told me that my sticker should be in the mail. Yay! I usually stand in line waiting at AAA for my registration longer than I did here at Express Smog. Adulting can be difficult, especially if that means waking up and doing something responsible on a Saturday morning but Express Smog makes it so easy! That's fine with me because I don't like to waste time. I pulled up as someone was leaving. As he was getting started on my car I asked him how it all went and he explained it to me. Time is money, and to avoid all the lines and waiting at the DMV, I would gladly again pay the $25.00 SMOG + $10.00 extra fee to register automatically to the DMV (without having to go there) + $1.00 Credit Card charge. I will not return to smog express again. The tech was fast but my car's test was rejected, not failed, because my car's emissions computer was not ready to test. To retest would cost $16. Again, there was nothing wrong with my car just computer needed to cycle. The gas station across the street does not charge for retest. Never heard of a place charging to retest. They won't have my business again, a $20 lesson read more

They sent my registration to the wrong address. I called the DMV who was insanely resilient to providing me with the address. I had to go through every address I have lived at over the past 8 years and finally got to it. The DMV employee told me it was my fault because that is the address they have on file.
