TLDR: I thought I was getting a hitch that looked like pictures 1 and 2, expressly communicated that I didn't want a hitch that looked like picture 3 (under the bumper line), but got picture 4. When I communicated this, they didn't care - at all - and laughed at me as I left. I called Express Performance Center to ask about their comfort cutting into a bumper for a hitch install with the OEM hitch (pictures 1 and 2) for my Forester Wilderness. I was originally planning on ordering the OEM hitch, but during the call learned about Curt (after market, no concerns). I was assured that they were very comfortable with cutting into the bumper/cladding and had, in fact, just installed a hitch on a Wilderness the week prior. I asked for confirmation that the Curt hitch would be installed up into the bumper cladding, hence why I was asking about their comfort doing this kind of work. I was assured, yes, he explained that this was a "concealed hitch" and designed to be installed that way. We talked about how they use a trim to make sure the cut looks clean afterwards. This was all in line with my expectations based on Picture 1, so I went to their store to order the part. To make extra sure that we were on the same page, while in person, I showed him pictures of what I wanted (1 and 2), and showed him specifically what I did not want (3). I emphasized several times that I did not want the style of hitch that was under the line of the bumper; I understood this included cutting the bumper cladding which is why I had asked about their comfort cutting into this and why I brought in pictures with me before ordering. This was the most important thing for me in ordering a hitch, so I felt that I overemphasized my expectations on this. When looking at picture 1 together, I was told that it will look just like that and that the only difference would be that it wouldn't have the Subaru logo. We laughed. It was a pleasant exchange. When we reviewed the specs provided by the hitch manufacturer, the included picture was of a Subaru Forester Sport and the hitch was below the bumper line. I pointed it out and confirmed that mine wouldn't look like that - it would be up into the cladding. The bumper for the Forester Wilderness is not the same as the Sport, so I was not concerned with this difference. I trusted him. We did look at the manufacturer-provided specs for where to cut the bumper together - I laughed and commented that it didn't mean much to me, but as long as it made sense to him, we were good. I thought we were on the same page. When I arrived, I could immediately see that what I *thought* I had ordered was not what had been installed on my Wilderness (picture 4). When I communicated as much, the employee stated and then re-stated, rather defensively, that we had ordered it together - I had seen pictures, the part number, the specs - and that this is what I had ordered. All of this was correct but, again, I thought that the install on my Wilderness would be into the bumper, like the pictures I had shown him. Like he had affirmed for me prior to purchase. I am not going to understand all of the specs, but what I can do is show you a picture and say, "This is what I want". It is your job as the expert to say "Yes, this is what it will look like." "or "No, you should really order the OEM hitch." I would have happily ordered the OEM hitch and had them do the install. I do not think he purposely tried to mislead me, but what I was perhaps most disappointed in was when I was clearly upset with the result of their work, he was in NO WAY concerned with making it right. More than once he said, "What do you want me to do about it?". I was told quite bluntly that I could either pay them to take it off ($239 for the initial install + another $239 to take it off), or I could pay the $500 remaining on my balance. These were my two options. At no point was there any effort made to make it right for their customer, or an acknowledgement of their role in the misunderstanding that got us here. I would have happily met them in the middle, had them taken off the hitch (at their expense to make things right), and returned with an OEM hitch to complete the install, paying for the 2nd install. So this was my lesson learned. Express Performance Center got me for my $600 and put me in a position of no win: take the hitch I don't want, or pay for an additional 2 hours of labor to take it off at nearly the same cost. They are the experts. I trusted them and they were unable to communicate to me that what I wanted (pictures 1 and 2) did not match the hitch being ordered and would look like picture 3 when installed. Sharing so that others can learn from my lesson. PS - to the Express Performance Center team, I could hear you laughing at me as I left the store. Furthering my lasting opinion that you do not care about your customers or making sure they are happy with your work at time of payment.

Express Performance, Santee, California is, from my personal experience, the best service in their industry nationwide. Women (as I am) should feel comfortable about utilizing this service in any capacity that they serve; my experience with them is that the staff were capable and and efficiently effective when installing my camper tie downs, and replacing a defective electrical plug in my pickup too. This may sound trivial but it was imperative needs and totally stressing me out. Thank goodness for this amazing service and their fabulous customer service and team.

This place is great. They ordered the tow hitch I needed and installed it in less than an hour. Price was reasonable and around the same as what U-Haul quoted. U-Haul would have had me drop off my vehicle for the day so having this done so quickly by Express Performance Center was awesome!

I took my 2003 Toyota Tacoma in for a check engine light. I had estimates from multiple other shops that ranged from $800 to $1900 to replace catalytic converters. Tim informed me that it was probably just my oxygen sensor and that I should save my money and change that first. He was right!! I've been driving it a week without the check engine light and I'm ready to pass smog. I'm thankful for the honesty and for saving my money. Definitely recommend these guys for all your exhaust needs! read more

I was having problems with the electrical system on my RV and toad. I had it installed at another place who said the problem was the RV which is on a Sprinter chassis. I was told by the ones who installed it that it was probably a module in the RV and would cost around $1600 to fix, but they thought they could rig something up for $450. Speaking to the previous owner and Roadmaster I didn't think that was the case. I called Performance Express on Thursday and spoke to Aaron who said they could take a look at it on Friday at around 3:30, have in mind this is the Friday before the Memorial Day weekend. I arrived early and Aaron determined the RV was fine in about 3 minutes. Derrick then went to work on the toad, a 2018 Honda Fit. It was more difficult because he had to find out where the previous installed team the wires. Long story short the RV was fine, the connecting cable was good and the Fit was wired correctly. A real head scratcher. Derrick kept at it and tried different approaches. Best guess is the RV may send out a signal to the Fit, which has LED lights which may give the impression of a bad bulb. Derrick got it working in less than two hours and everything is as it should be. My GF and I left very happy campers. read more

My only business with these guys was over the phone. I had a unusal wireing problem connecting my airstream and landrover. Spent 2 months talking to EVERYONE and tried EVERYTHING as no one really knew the answer. These guys immediately knew what to do ...I live 6 hours away and told me they would be happy to talk to my mechanic over the phone to tell him exactly how to fix my problem. Are these guys for real? BUYERS BEWARE....They are not the same that they were previously! We've dealt with the co-owner Tim for many years and had excellent service (5). Unfortunately he had a heart attack and his co-owner Scott is the reason. He is by far the rudest person we've ever dealt with. In Tim's family members words, Scott ran him into the ground. I tried to give them a second chance after having a bad dealing with Scott being that we've done business with them for a very long time (big mistake). Scott sold my parts to another customer after confirming the week before that the parts were in stock and setting the appointment. He reassured us he will get them the next day. The next day came and the price was almost double! He told me his employee misquoted and it is what it is (after he confirmed the pricing the week before!). He told me that if I don't like it to take my business elsewhere. He also decided to take a lunch when he saw me come into talk to him. His employee Nathan's father was in the hospital and he had to leave so Scott decided to go to lunch instead. When my wife asked why he did that after waiting 45 minutes for him to come back, in his words (he said "big deal, his fathers is in the hospital every other week...my father died, do you know what died means??") There is much more that he said and did that doesn't need to be repeated....Do Not Go here!!! read more

I'd purchased a used but, fairly new 4x4 Pick up and even though I'd gotten the extended warranty it had a horrific problems bouncing around. I'd taken it back to the dealership from whence purchased and also to a "tire specialist center". It wasnt until I'd taken it to Express that I found out the problem. no upgrades had been done but oversize tries from the previous owner and I'd almost ONE inch of play in my front tires vs the req'd 3Mil -! tony and the crew were professional, helpful, courteous, friendly and cost effective - result - WONDERFUL! I needed to get a trailer hitch installed on my Infiniti EX 35 and called Express Performance Center up. Due to my cars make and sensitivity with all the electrical work, they had to run a separate power line which is more labor intensive than tapping into the brake lights. However, they did things right and I'm very satisfied with the work quality and also how clean the installation was. Other places quoted me less but planned on tapping into the brake light for power which would have completely screwed up the electrical and would have caused more issues so I'm glad that Express was up front about the installation. Poor follow up to detail...I had air bags installed in two hours which was great but they never checked their work evidently ...got home and left side bag would not hold air so had to leave for trip without air bags...tried to fill up in Ridgecrest at 120 degrees didn't hold...very pissed read more

I had my exhaust rust through completely on my eastcoast born and raised Subaru. My usual mechanic wouldn't touch it since it looked so rusty and messy. These guys, on the other hand, had a look, saw that the rust was mainly superficial, and did a great job patching it together and for a good price. Anyways, this happened today, and who knows how long it will hold and all of that, but I'm so relieved they were able to help me I wanted to share this. read more

I can't say enough good things about this shop. I've been there 3 times with my older Toyota Tacoma. First they found the source of a load noise in the exhaust. Quick fix at a price about 10% of Toyota dealer's suggestion to replace everything. Next they replaced an oxygen sensor that my mechanic wasn't able to remove. Nothing is a problem for these guys. They just heated up the bolts and got it out. Most recently I took my truck in because I thought there was an exhaust smell from the front. They confirmed there was no exhaust leak but suggested I have the motor degreased. They charged me zero for this insight and when I had the vehicle degreased at another shop, it actually fixed the problem. No more smell. I wish every business in my life was as trustworthy and competent as these guys. read more

After Trick Trucks screwed me around I called Express and they got me taken care of the next day. I forgot they did lifts and wish I would have gone there in the first place. Great service. They actually showed me a way to accomplish what I wanted and it would also saved money. They could have easily not given me that option and charged me the original estimate price. These guys rock!!! I bought a new truck that came with an integrated brake controller which didn't communicate with my electric over hydraulic brake system on my trailer. The guys at Express Performance were exceptionally knowledgeable and the service was excellent and friendly. I had tried at several places to get this problem corrected and was wondering if it could be fixed at all, but the technicians and counter staff made me feel confident in their abilities and took care of the problem in record time! went there for a hitch on my Honda cross tour. for a heavy duty bike rack ,i have two electric bikes that weight over 90 lbs..not only they did a great job,but they were very reasonable in price . while waiting there i found out they also do brakes,so they fixed my front rotors which were causing the wheel to tremble when i applied the brakes.great job and about half the price of the Honda dealer.can't beat that. my go to place for brakes and anything else they do. read more

These guys are trailer wizards! I was in a tough spot with a hitch that needed to be replaced asap (coworkers overloaded a trailer and bent the hitch) while I was in the middle of a trip and far from home. Not only did they take care of it same-day, but they ended up modifying an off-the-shelf hitch to fit the van, thereby installing a hitch that was vastly superior than the one that bent, so we won't find ourselves in that pickle again. Not many shops are willing to go to those kinds of lengths to help someone out. I Googled San Diego Hummer H2 Rear Suspension replacement to COILS repair and found no local hits in SD. I called several local suspension repair shops and did not feel comfortable with the answers I was getting. A friend of mine referred me to EPC so I called and brought in my 2004 Hummer H2 to them for the repair. H2 owners you know what I'm talking about when I say leaking air bags! Two hours later, the Employees at EPC did a GREAT Job! and replaced my airbags with Rear Suspension COILS. No longer need to worry about the rear air suspension anymore. They also were able to salvage my air compressor which allows me to use my built in tire air compressor valve located in the rear compartment of my H2. H2 owners you will eventually have to replace your leaking faulty rear air suspension bags. Have EPC fix your H2 and replace them with rear after market suspension COILS like I did and no more worries! Get rid of those costly expensive airbags! Great Job! Thanks so much for everything!!! I am a Customer for Life! Keep up the Good Work!!! I normally don't do reviews, but I had to with this company to spread the word!. Thanks again! read more

Great place to get work done with a competitive price and excellent workmanship. We had a complete tow setup done to our 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Express gave me a quote and then handled everything flawlessly from start to finish. The tech performing the work explained everything and showed me the installation (very professional). I bought a tow hitch from Amazon, and since I don't own tools I called around to find a place that would install it. I called this place, and the lady quoted me $55, then before we hung up she says "I was supposed to charge you $75, but I already said $55". Let's just say that's not the only thing they got wrong before I was done. I go in thinking I'm getting a good deal. It's a tow hitch install. If I had tools, 20 minutes tops. It took them an hour and a half... I kid you not. They estimated 45 minutes, but they even doubled their own time. Here's the thing though, when I asked for an update about 50 minutes in, the lady rolls her eyes at me (like no kidding rolls her eyes) and says with attitude they just asked her to print the instructions because it's a complicated hitch... What? So they just started working on my car without using the instructions? ...WHAT? Anyways, I guess the hitch is on there, but that doesn't justify the terrible service and the amount of time it took them to do the work. For a place that advertises their tow equipment so much, I wish they were a bit more competent in installation. I won't be coming back. read more

TERRIBLE service and a HUGE disappointment. Initially I was thrilled to find such a fantastic and dedicated truck performance facility to have my 4X4 aligned. My excitement quickly turned sour. I made an appointment, showed up right on time and was treated like crap by the technician who was going to perform an alignment my truck. Not only did he completely blow me off when I attempted to greet him before taking my truck back, but he also failed to align my truck properly. I calmly expressed my concern and showed him that the problem was still visibly evident; he rudely raised his voice at me in in great disrespect to say that there was no problem! At this point I was furious lost complete trust in this technician's professional ability and this "Performance Center" to align my truck. I am not one to get upset easily and do not like to argue with anyone, especially over something that I am having "professionals" deal with. I stormed back inside to voice what just happened to the man behind the marble counter and left the establishment. It was by far the absolute worst experience I have ever had anywhere. read more

I went to this place to get some simple exhaust work done. All I needed was tips welded on. They close at 5:30 and got there right a 4:15 after work. They turned me away and were kind of rude. I guess it's because I don't look like a typical truck guy. I dunno. Maybe because I'm a minority or something. I went to Budget Muffler on El Cajon blvd and they took care of me in 30 minutes and were very polite. read more

I am a female customer who has been going to Express for the past 21 years for almost all of my repair needs. Even if they couldn't fix the problem, they would give me honest advice. I have trusted them with every car I have owned including my BMW. I am so impressed with their superior customer service and quality work that I recommend them to all my family and friends including my daughter who has never been taken advantage of. I noticed by reading some of these reviews,that some of them are for express tire. I flagged that crap and you should too if you had the great experiances I have had with these guys. I'm glad to promote the good work I have received here. three times in a row. they have put on 2 mufflers for me at a very affordable price. the third job was a complete bear but they completed it in one day and off to the desert I go!!!!!!!!!! they had to fix my leaking manifold. shotty work from an engine rebuild caused a manifold to fall apart a year later. the other repair shops band-aid had become exposed and express help me realize that! they had to do some fancy wizardry by welding some nuts on broken studs and was successful to get them out to retap and straighten out everything. these guys know whats up! and they were cheaper than pep boys which once they got in there probably would of not even done the job. thanks guys!!!!!!!!! read more

Entering in the store this afternoon made me realize why I should use yelp. The customer service was rude and flat out disrespectful. The language was unneeded as well as being told i deal with you "F----ers" all day and i get off at 5 O'Clock. I left never to return. The real sad part, the others in the back looked on and walked away. As a teacher, I was horrified by the behavior and have NEVER seen any student talk in that manner. read more

Customer Service at Express Performance absolutely sucks. When I go into a business I expect to at least see a sign of recognition of my presence from the employees, counter persons in this case. When I entered the store I was totally ignored while one counter person was on the phone and the other took care of one customer and his friend. The guy on the phone finally finished his call, sneered at me and walked out into the garage never to reappear. The other guy never acknowledged my presence as he was to busy BSing about all kinds of crap with the person he was helping. After waiting for over 10 minutes I realized they were not interested in my business so I left and went back to the person who sent me to Express Performance (a friend of mine who runs an Auto repair shop) and told him how I was treated. He won't send any more of his customers to this joke of a business! It turned out good for me though because he then sent me to County RV in Santee where I was treated to excellent service and quality work done in a short time. They practically made me feel like a part of their family. That is how GOOD business is done in the USA! This place doesn't even deserve one star. A moon maybe but no stars... read more

This dealership was on my list to visit, but it wasn't for the Suburban I originally wanted. HOWEVER, when I arrived it was a pleasant change from the prior dealership. I spoke with John who was the internet consultant I had been working with. He handed me off to Joyce and I couldn't have been happier! She was so patient, understanding and just an all around nice lady who made my experience wonderful. I went in looking at the Tahoe Premier because that is what stood out. After seeing it, Joyce and her manager were able to knock off an additional $500 from the price along with increasing my used car amount from $6k to $6.5k after being told it was only worth about $5800. Although I had an offer from two other companies (One being CarMax) for around $8 - $8.6k, I took the offer as I didn't want to drive two cars home. Also, seeing as how the last dealership offered me only $2k for my 2015 Durango in good condition with 101k miles. After a while, I really wanted the Suburban so as they were crunching the numbers I found one on their lot that I really liked. It wasn't the Premier, but to me the only option that I NEEDED were the Captain's Chairs for the second row. This LT was black on black (which I LOVE), had the 22" black wheel package, comfort package and black lettering package and priced just a bit higher than the Tahoe. I took it for a test drive and fell in love. When I got back, I asked John for their best offer and they matched the $4k discount the Tahoe offered even though it was already discounted at $2800. Also, there were NO additional add ons which was much more attractive, so we shook hands and the deal was done. So much easier than the other dealership (side note, that dealership was so petty they were bad mouthing Sedano as I left. Very insecure on their part. No COURTESY at all). From start to finish, Sedano hands down helped me out and made sure all of my needs were met. They were all super friendly and continued to help me after I left their dealership. I was so excited about the Suburban that I purchased the extended warranty without doing my due diligence (I'm the type to do all my research prior to a big purchase). After thinking about it more and doing some research I decided to cancel knowing I would not receive the refund but rather it would be deducted from my principal. Shockingly, the finance department was able to remove that cost from my original deal and redo the deal. I was surprisingly shocked. Couldn't be more excited about my experience.

I've had my Mustang since 1997 so needless to say, I've been to a fair share of auto shops over the years. I was referred to Autoworks Restomod by another classic Mustang owner, and reached out to them through Instagram asking if they'd be able to help with the issues I was experiencing with my '66. My Mustang has quite a bit of aftermarket work done to it such as a 1989 5.0 EFI motor with an AOD transmission, power disc breaks, coil over suspension, custom wheels/axles, and a custom rear end, so it has been difficult to find a shop that could work on it. Even before ever stepping through the door, or meeting them in person, the level of service that I received from them was impressive. They were quick to respond, seemed genuinely engaged with my situation and the questions I was asking, and they were able to squeeze me into the shop despite the fact that they had a full garage of other classic Mustangs that they were working on. When I brought my '66 to Autoworks Restomod, it was barely drivable. I actually had to trailer it over to the shop because the rear ended had blown, and my car could barely drive above 30 miles per hour. From the start, the owner Matt, was personally involved with not only the initial meet and greet and diagnosing of the problem, but he actually was in contact with me throughout the entire time my mustang was in the shop. Thanks to Matt and his teams' thorough inspection and testing of my car, they were able to not only fix and replace the rear end, they also discovered a faulty break issue that could have been catastrophic if left unrepaired, and ended up troubleshooting and fixing an electrical/computer issue that I had been dealing with for over 10 years!! Words cannot express how happy I was the day Matt called me and told me that all of the issues that I brought the Mustang in for were fixed and it was ready to be picked up. I am so happy with not only the level of service I received but also for the quality of the work they did. All of the work was completed a few months back in 2021, and I have driven the car weekly and sometimes daily without any issues at all! This Mustang is my first car that I got when I was 16 years old, and I'm grateful to have it back on the road and running like it's brand new. Sparks told me "look, it's been strong for the last 130k miles, all you need is a stock rebuild to get you another (at least) 120k miles" I don't tow anything with it, it has an intake and exhaust, no power adders leveled in 35's. It's not a monster truck doing heavy hauling. It's been about 2 months so far and it rejuvenated my love for the truck...now if I can afford the fuel bill to drive it But it came with a 3 year 36k mile warranty and they said if anything happens just bring it in and they'll take care of it. Oh, almost forgot. I had some upgraded parts and new parts to install and they did that for no extra charge when they put it back together .

First off, I called at got a 9:30 appt. I show up 10 mins early and Mr "I'm doing you a favor" at the front counter says "I have you down for 10:30". When the truck is finished Mr "Too cool to appreciate your business" guy at the front counter asked if I wanted it wired? Well, I'm gonna need lights on my trailer so why would I want a hitch installed and Not wired? Am I supposed to give hand signals? That is like buying a car and they ask you if you want brakes? He then said it would be $150 more!!! They Never Thought to tell me on the phone call to schedule, when I dropped it off, or while I was waiting. You'd think wiring would be a minor detail a professional shop would disclose up front. Not these guys. I've been doing business there for at least 15 years. I won't be making that mistake again. Terrible customer service with bait-and-switch tactics. If you are looking for a honest and reliable place, Express Performance Center is not the answer. They do not value your business and the employees are rude and arrogant. Be prepared for unexpected charges and a "deal with it " attitude" from them. I'll make sure and tell everyone I know In East County how they do business. Someone needs to teach this kid a lesson. I own 3 businesses and would fire any employee on the spot if they acted so unprofessional to my customers. read more

I have a 2004 F-150 that needed step bars and a performance cat back muffler setup. Tim the counter guy was great and since he has an 04 F150 was able to give me some $$$ saving tips...like not turning on the O/D except for freeway driving over 55 mph. The Tranny can overheat causing harm if left on at low speed. Both jobs were excellent and priced well...Now I can hear that great V8 sound and step into the cab easily.... As Arnold said in the Terminator movie...All be back. read more
