Tasty beer at Explorer Brewing!
Alden C.

Explorer Brewing is a newer brewery to emerge out of Kelso and Longview area. We went here after we spent an afternoon in Kalama and our visit here further enhanced the leisurely trip we were on. At Explorer we had several beers, all relatively light as this was a trend of beer drinking that we were engaging in at the time. I got the Marzen Lager which was good as well as Summer In A Glass which is a light beer as well as their kolsch. The beers were all pretty good... perhaps not as memorable as other drinking experiences elsewhere involving the same beers but good all the same. The taproom is very nice and the swag(shirts) are great! I got an awesome looking green Hawaiian style shirt with the brewery logo on the back which I really liked. In addition to all that the staff here were very pleasant to interact with making this brewery visit very enjoyable!

Hey all you blue collar wanna be reverend Larry's. Summer in a glass is just a twin city away. Come on down to explorer brewing and sip on a Baja in the outdoor seating with a Hawaiian breeze. Don't be a prickly pear and just say to the hell with it. Fungis and gals welcome

Stopped in while I was in town for the holidays. I wish I could remember the name of the manager, but he was fun and knowledgeable. I appreciate a brewery that goes all in for the season/holidays and enjoyed all of their winter beers. Shout out to the spicy (Baja something) that I was blown away by.

Boy oh boy! Our bartender, Mr. Baker, is passionate about the beers & very knowledgeable. I absolutely love That they honor the space they are in, a former dance studio, where my sisters danced. They have used the former ballet bars in the interior of the pub. Fabulous selection of taps for all tastes!

We made an impromptu stop at Explorer Brewing on our way to the Oregon Coast. The staff were amazing and helped us build a delicious flight of tasters. We were quite surprised to like most of the beers they selected and are planning to be back in the future for a Crib tournament. A great environment we wish we loved closer to! Highly recommend.

The delicious brews were only matched by the incredible customer service. Some may say they're "ok at best"...but we think they're pretty great all the time

Had a great experience here, was looking to try something new and local and that exactly what I got. My friend and I stopped in as we were passing through town, we were pleased with the selection of beer all brewed by them. The server was really friendly and able to give great recommendations and took the time to let us have multiple tasters even when another large group walked in behind us. They had broad range of different beers and even their IPA's which i'm not usually a fan of were great. Only thing I wish is that they had a description on each beer either printed out or up on a wall. Would make it a little easier on the staff. My friend opted for a tasting try and it came on a cute dragon boat! Sounds silly but that was one of my favorite things. The atmospherics was nice and laid back, very clean including the bathrooms. Would for sure come back anytime I am passing through

Stopped here on our way home from a camping trip and it did not disappoint! We got the boat sampler with 10 beers and they were all great! Service was excellent!

I'll start this review off by saying that I love Cathlamet. It's a quaint little historic town…read morewith a rich history and really nice people. I've been visiting here a dozen times a year for four decades. There are a few eateries here. Many seem to come and go although there are a couple that have survived the test of time. RM38 is a newcomer... used to be in a small building with VERY limited hours. I gather their main biz was brewing craft beer for a very small clientele of businesses and the "saloon" was mostly a side hustle to help pay the rent. So I see they moved into new digs down at the marina. I won't take off any stars for the following since this seems to be their new business model: Offering uber-expensive, skimpy portions of not especially tasty food targeted to yuppies who have more money than brains. Suffice to say that you won't see many Bikers hanging out here. The good: Their patio has a nice river view and a pleasant breeze. Sitting out there enjoying a cold one on a hot Summer day is very pleasant. And during the Fall too so long as it's not raining. People complain about the lack of parking which is not an issue when you show up on a motorcycle. But there are LOTS of places to park although you may have to walk a few yards... you poor darlings. Staff is less than amazing but they are always courteous towards me. I suppose I am no more their dream customer than they are my dream hangout. But Bikers tend to be very generous tippers so they might want to keep that in mind. There's one long-established watering hole in Cathlamet but it's a dark, indoor venue. I like it there and it's more of a dive bar with very good food. The thing about Cathlamet is that if you are just an occasional visitor you have many options of where to stop for a meal and/or drink and never get bored. There's also a few good places at the other end of the ferry ride in Westport, Oregon. Hard to say how long RM38 will stay in business. I'm actually surprised that they lasted in their original location for so long considering that they were only open for a few hours during the weekend. It would be great if they quit pretending to be an upscale eatery and instead focused on providing a good value, tasty, filling meal for the money. Again, no minus stars for that but until new management comes along and makes some changes it will just be a pint or two for me and i'm on my way. Of course as always YMMV.

We came in on a Sunday late afternoon, I think, and it was very, very dark inside. Just two or three patrons interacting with the beertender. They were playing Romancing the Stone on the TV, which was alright. Only four or five beers on tap. Overall? The beers were good! The guy working was nice! The vibes from the patrons were friendly, but it's definitely not the kind of place I'd ever be interested in hanging out at for very long. Lil' too dark and sparsely decorated for me. Uninviting. I don't know if they're specifically avoiding making it "nice", but it definitely needs a gentle touch on the interior design. PLUS SEVENTEEN STARS FOR THE BATHROOMS SMELLING LIKE GUMBALLS.

They had a great milk stout on tap and it was very enjoyable! The bartender was very friendly and made good conversation. I got a nice batch of peanuts as a nice snack to go along with my beer. Other than a brief chat things were pretty uneventful in the taproom since I was the only one there. Towards the end of by beer a few more came in to have some beer but other than that it was dead. It is kind of odd since it was a Saturday. Perhaps it was just too early in the day. I would consider going back whenever I wind up in Longview again since I feel that this is the best brewery in town.

Loved their tiny place when they first started, but watching how it's grown and is thriving speaks to the owner's hard work and vision. It's an extremely welcoming place (even for dogs). It feels like a lot of thought and care has been put into blending "small town favorites" with higher end cuisine. We have liked most everything we've had there. Service is wonderful, smiles all around and a genuine care about the customers experience can be felt. We have yet to attend a game night, although definitely looking forward to it. Good food, good beer (even gluten free options in a can available!) good times. Looking forward to the continued growth in the community.

This was one of the first places we stopped in and we actually went back several times to the point where the staff knew we were the Vegas people haha. At first we did their beer flights. And we also got the burger and fries, too, to eat. Their food is OUTSTANDING! And their beer is even better!!! I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious the food was. And honestly, this beer was incredible. Literally every beer I tried was so good. A few times we came in we sat at the bar and chatted with some of the employees who were soooo nice. They have games, too, so we played some trivia and uno and it was a lot of fun. We seriously had the best time here. The owner even chatted with us a bit and he was so nice, too. One night they even had some guys out front smoking some meats and we struck up a convo with them, too. Honestly, the people in this town are so friendly. Especially the people that work here. They're SO kind. Definitely would frequent this spot if I lived here. But again, we had sooo much fun here and I highly recommend checking out this place.

I thought it was just businesses to the east of interstate, primarily for the road traffic mostly but the town hops across the interstate and goes west to where downtown is. And there is where Crosscut is. At first I had the interpretation that this place was a cidery but it's more of a tap house that serves guest taps for beer and cider. They also serve food as well. We got a couple smaller sized beers from their tap list. Breweries that were out of Vancouver,WA and Portland, OR. Those were very good! The nachos we ordered were good too. I think you can pick from two different options and we went with one where it had a pulled pork. It was more like BBQ nachos. Definitely something out of the ordinary but very appetizing and enjoyable! Nice location in downtown. We were here in the evening and most of the shops were already closed but would love to come back in the day for a drink and some eats while window shopping downtown.
