Okay, so my husband and I are old - BUT - we're not going to act old because we visit fabulous places like this! We were greeted by the Steviest of Steves - who is a font of brewmaster information! We learned of this brewery while attending the Squirrel Festival (which featured a beer garden.) We made it to the actual brick and mortar - today - and could kick ourselves for not visiting a few years ago! Great beer, great service & ambiance. The environment is awesome! Explorer Brewing is a newer brewery to emerge out of Kelso and Longview area. We went here after we spent an afternoon in Kalama and our visit here further enhanced the leisurely trip we were on. At Explorer we had several beers, all relatively light as this was a trend of beer drinking that we were engaging in at the time. I got the Marzen Lager which was good as well as Summer In A Glass which is a light beer as well as their kolsch. The beers were all pretty good... perhaps not as memorable as other drinking experiences elsewhere involving the same beers but good all the same. The taproom is very nice and the swag(shirts) are great! I got an awesome looking green Hawaiian style shirt with the brewery logo on the back which I really liked. Love this brewery! Steve and Brad are wonderful brew-tenders. They will walk you through any tasting to help find a flavor profile you like. Boy oh boy! Our bartender, Mr. Baker, is passionate about the beers & very knowledgeable. I absolutely love That they honor the space they are in, a former dance studio, where my sisters danced. They put their creativity and souls into their beers and producing an incredible product (unlike what Jerry. H does with his Yelp reviews). The service is impeccable and Steve hung out with us for a long time passionately talking about his beers and the work they put into their drinks (Big Mary's Blue Ox is SO good). We were greeted right way by the owner who was more than happy to talk brewing processes and techniques. He also is the brew master. Tried a few different tastes and made the hard choice of which one. There was several I liked. Really great vibe and easy to hang out there. Had a great experience here, was looking to try something new and local and that exactly what I got. My friend and I stopped in as we were passing through town, we were pleased with the selection of beer all brewed by them. The server was really friendly and able to give great recommendations and took the time to let us have multiple tasters even when another large group walked in behind us. They had broad range of different beers and even their IPA's which i'm not usually a fan of were great. Only thing I wish is that they had a description on each beer either printed out or up on a wall. Would make it a little easier on the staff. My friend opted for a tasting try and it came on a cute dragon boat! Sounds silly but that was one of my favorite things. The atmospherics was nice and laid back, very clean including the bathrooms. This place is a great addition to the Longview/Kelso area! The staff is super helpful when picking out what to try next. Not to mention we hadn't been here in 5 or so months and he remembered us, that's pretty great service! Be sure to tell him what you like, because he may have more in the back that just isn't listed on the taps yet! I definitely suggest swinging in for a beer or two, I haven't tried one yet that I didn't like. Absolutley love the place. The staff have always been very kind, open, and appreciative of their customers. They are even so nice that they wave to literally everybody that walks or drives by. The beers are phenomenal, and even the oopsies that happen back in the brewery have turned into Bob Ross quality "happy little accidents" that keep the wife and I comming back for more. From the 7 shields DIPA, Hairy Beast Double Nut Brown, to their Mary's Big Blue Ox and the many other awesome and unique beers, you simply cant go wrong here. Explorer Brewery is a breath of fresh air for Kelso. With 23 of their own beers on tap you will definitely find a handful of ones you like, I'm really picky and really enjoy most of the beer there.. Steve took the time to ask me enough questions to pair me with several beers, he really takes pride in the beer they make, and his recommendations are spot on. Brad brews a large variety of beers, quite a few IPA's which are my favorite... The food is hand delivered, took about 15 minutes, I recommend the poutine, it's off the charts. If your a Coors Light/Bud Light kinda person like I use to be... they have lagers, you will really like. Great beers, excellent customer service, and good food, you can't go wrong. read more

I don't like very hoppy beer which is why this place is great! They allow food delivery and often have food trucks that are great! The variety of beer they have on tap allows for every taste.
