I came here to see a band perform, and as a concert venue, Bateaux does quite well. When the weather's nice, the music's outdoors. Shade can be hard to find, but the staff told me to feel free to grab an Adirondack chair and position it wherever I wanted to, which was appreciated. The staff is extremely friendly, enthusiastic, and helpful. While it may seem weird for a non-alcohol drinker to visit a winery, I've been told at other wineries that it's quite common, and other wineries offer a fair selection of non-alcoholic beverages for such patrons. Bateaux only offers water, so anybody hoping for kombucha, iced tea, sodas, etc. is out of luck. Their food menu consists of two pizzas: Margherita, and pepperoni. They're wood-fired, and the dough is made in-house. The pizzas are competent, but they're on the pricy side, and are nothing noteworthy. Service is fast, and there is table service, even if you're just sitting in an Adirondack chair that you randomly positioned in a spot of shade close to the stage. Be aware that Bateaux is completely hidden from view from its street entrance, and that there is a longer-than-expected drive on a single-lane dirt road to get from the street to the winery. Although I didn't encounter any traffic trying to leave when I was entering, eluding oncoming traffic would have been tricky. read more

This place is fabulous for a relaxing time outside in a very nice setting. The limited food selection is excellent. We had a group of 6 and had two different pizzas and the charcuterie box. Simply superb. They have horseshoes, clean restroom. The only downside for me was the wine Lol. There was just one I thought was pretty good: the BonVin Rouge. Unfortunately, I got a headache from it. I usually stick with whites, but didn't enjoy any of those. The people there are a 10+! Couldn't ask for friendlier people and great service. read more

What a find! We were driving between Portland and Olympia and decided it would be fun to stop for a wine tasting. The owners Steve, Cheryl and their daughter Lauren greeted us on their beautiful wine tasting patio. There wasn't a band this afternoon but we were encouraged to choose our favorite record from a selection they had ready. We enjoyed 5 tastings of our choice for a mere $10. (You get that back if you buy 3 bottles.) The reds and whites were all good. They also have charcuterie and pizza options but we had just come from lunch so didn't try those. On a rest day between mountain adventures we thought this could be fun diversion. We didn't regret stopping by as it is a great setting with a lot of activities to pass the time (horse shoes, disc golf, corn hole, bocce, and of course wine). Our hosts were very friendly and pleasant to chat with as we sampled the regional wines. More a place to relax and have fun than to indulge in an upscale wine experience, but we all found something we liked. The tasting fee was also very reasonable. As a carful of Californians we also appreciated the flags flying at the entrance - not necessarily what one might expect in rural Washington. read more

Lovely scenery, lovely wine, and lovelier hosts. We stopped here at a whim on our honeymoon, on the way from Portland to Seattle, and will be delighted to revisit on our next visit to the pacific northwest. The wine selection was varied and all were delicious. The tasting came with goldfish crackers and chocolate wafers to enjoy with the wine, and we ordered an additional tray of cheese, meat, fruits and nuts to accompany it. The porch has a gorgeous view and fireplace, and is a beautiful place to spend a few hours. Truly though, what makes this place so special is the kind, warm, and generous people who run it. I was searching for a place to meet my daughter, she was driving north from Portland and I was coming from Seattle. I saw on Yelp that Bateaux Cellars allowed dogs on their deck, which was perfect since we both had our dogs with us. We bought a bottle of the Vilaine, it was lovely paired with the Grand Margaux brie and crackers we brought with us. It was a bit chilly so Steve started the fireplace, so cozy! Bateaux has a wonderful atmosphere, great wine, and Cheryl and Steve were so welcoming. I will definitely find more excuses to head south soon! read more

We had a wonderful afternoon at Bateaux as we drove from Portland to Seattle. The tasting was affordable (waived if you buy a bottle) and allowed you to get through either nearly all of the whites or the reds, depending on your preference. We enjoyed all of the wines we had but were particularly impressed with the rose and red blends. We ended up going home with 4 bottles after drinking one during our visit (bonus - multi bottle discount kicks in at two bottles instead of the typical six), and the owners were kind enough to send us home with an airline-friendly box and to let us know that we could check our wine for free on Alaska Airlines. For the non wine drinkers in your group, they also stock local beers to try. We very much enjoyed chatting with the owners about their business and sites to see nearby and visiting with the winery dogs, Alice and Arlo. I would highly recommend you stop by for great wine and company - this was truly the best winery we visited while in Oregon and Washington. read more

After hiking Mt. St. Helen's, we popped into Bateaux Winery. Fun fact, Bateaux means "canoe" in French. We had our dog with us and there is a patio that is perfect for your furry friends. Cheryl and Steven, the owners, were sweet enough to provide us a bowl of water for our golden doodle, Honeybear. Once inside we tried several wines. Our favorites were the Sauvignon Blanc (very similar to New Zealand varieties) and the Cabernet Sauvignon. There is a $5 tasting fee, however it is waived if a bottle is purchased. We ended up with almost 2 cases. Of note, the aforementioned wines were great as well as the Syrah and the Rhone-style white blend and the port. Enjoy! read more

We met up with friends and their kids here. It was the perfect in-between spot between Portland (where we are) and Seattle where they live. From the second we got out of our car, we felt welcomed! The owners are so warm and wonderful. What's really incredible is that we had an issue with our license plate hanging crooked; they noticed it and even fixed it for us! We enjoyed every wine we sampled, especially the Vilaine white wine that was so crisp and clean- perfect for a hot summer day. The food was delicious and prices are a steal. The owners were very warm and welcoming - we came on a day they they were bottling and they still took the time to introduce themselves, explain each of their wines, and generally make us feel welcome. The tasting room was beautiful, and the patio is dog friendly. We ordered a flight so that we could sample a little of each wine. Honestly, all were delicious, but some notable standouts were the Riesling, the Pinot Gris, the Rosé, and the Cab Sauv. We ended up buying two bottles to go. Everything you could want in a tasting trip. The property is pretty, and Steve, one of the owners, was welcoming, personable, and very invested in the process. We stopped in on our way south from Seattle on the strength of their Yelp photos and a gut feeling and we spent 2 enjoyable hours there. The indoor area isn't huge but high ceilings make it roomy and there's a deck outside that we'd be happy to enjoy in warmer weather. While looking for a winery to stop off at for a tasting on our way to Seattle, we came across the Bateaux Cellars. Words cannot describe how perfect our experience was! From the fantastic wine to the fun conversation, Cheryl and Steve were an absolute delight. While we're from the east coast, we're already planning a trip back if only to visit them (and Arnie!) again! Located right off of I-5, it's a perfect 2 mile pit stop.
