Be prepared, regular people. The main description that comes to mind for Five Dons is "old boy…read morejoint". Deep in industrial Longview near the most massive lumber mill I've ever seen! We came in on a Sunday late afternoon, I think, and it was very, very dark inside. Just two or three patrons interacting with the beertender. They were playing Romancing the Stone on the TV, which was alright. Only four or five beers on tap. Overall? The beers were good! The guy working was nice! The vibes from the patrons were friendly, but it's definitely not the kind of place I'd ever be interested in hanging out at for very long. Lil' too dark and sparsely decorated for me. Uninviting. I don't know if they're specifically avoiding making it "nice", but it definitely needs a gentle touch on the interior design. PLUS SEVENTEEN STARS FOR THE BATHROOMS SMELLING LIKE GUMBALLS.

This is probably my second favorite brewery that I went to when I was exploring the Longview area…read moreup to Centralia for craft beer. They had a great milk stout on tap and it was very enjoyable! The bartender was very friendly and made good conversation. I got a nice batch of peanuts as a nice snack to go along with my beer. Other than a brief chat things were pretty uneventful in the taproom since I was the only one there. Towards the end of by beer a few more came in to have some beer but other than that it was dead. It is kind of odd since it was a Saturday. Perhaps it was just too early in the day. I would consider going back whenever I wind up in Longview again since I feel that this is the best brewery in town.

Was in town for a weekend get-away and was searching for a veggie burger that was homemade with…read moregood/nutritious ingredients (quinoa, black bean etc). Found Fort George right down the street from our hotel and they had a black bean burger on the menu (whooo!) Headed over for a late lunch/early dinner at 3 pm. You can choose from the wood fired pizza section upstairs (I believe they take reservations) or the pub downstairs (first come first serve) which has a few indoor tables, some semi-outdoor tables that are well covered with a roof and glass sides, or a fully outdoor beer garden with covered and un-covered picnic tables. You order at the counter and then pick your table, they'll drop off the food to you. We opted for the black bean veggie burger which came with pepper jack cheese, guac, some Aioli, and a side of fries. It was very good and exactly what we were craving. They did have a vegan chicken sandwich that looked good but instead I went with a side salad with poppy seed dressing. The salad was fresh and so delicious and the dressing was perfection! Also did a side of hummus and veggies. The hummus wasn't fresh/home made, rather it was from a local place (I believe) and was pretty good. We didn't have their beer but they did have a large selection with varying ABVs and types (the fresh hop IPAs looked extra good); however we didn't see any non-alcoholic options when we looked. We had the ice tea which was fine as well as a Lüp, which was a sparkling hop water, it was pretty good. They also have a gift shop with shirts, hats, beers, and more. They had four (!!!) different types of aged barleywines - we regret not getting some to bring back home. Everyone working was also welcoming, friendly, and helpful when I had a few questions about the menu. Would recommend and we'll come back the next time we're in town !

We had such a good time here. Thankfully, they weren't too packed, as the sun was starting to set…read morewhen we went. This place is huge, btw. They have 2 floors, a bar on each floor, an outdoor courtyard area, and a barn area in the back with two bars and a stage. We caught a live show and thoroughly enjoyed it before driving back home to Seattle. We also hung out in the courtyard, enjoying the large caged wood fireplace, before heading to the barn for the live show. The service was excellent, maybe because they weren't too busy that day, and we entered upstairs, not downstairs, since street parking wraps around the building and, depending on where you park, you'll enter at different parts of the brewery/restaurant/warehouse. We were seated right away and got seats near the windows to enjoy the sunset. We ordered: Shrimpy Bread-this was tasty, but the teeny tiny frozen shrimp they use were not it. I'm thinking even normal-sized shrimp chopped up really small would have been tastier, but also, if you live for that shrimp flavor, this will be your jam. For me, the lemon flavor stood out, and combined with the cheese, it made it so worth it. Yum. Wood-fired pizza-half almighty and half carousel - this was omg, chef's kiss, perfect to share between the two of us. If we lived in Astoria, we could see ourselves coming in for this combo to take home. Really liked the decor. It felt very brew house, with wood throughout and lots of windows for ocean and neighborhood views from up on the hill. Also noticed folks from all walks of life here, families, couples, tourists, locals. It was a nice, casual vibe. We'll be back next time we're in the area :)

I'll start this review off by saying that I love Cathlamet. It's a quaint little historic town…read morewith a rich history and really nice people. I've been visiting here a dozen times a year for four decades. There are a few eateries here. Many seem to come and go although there are a couple that have survived the test of time. RM38 is a newcomer... used to be in a small building with VERY limited hours. I gather their main biz was brewing craft beer for a very small clientele of businesses and the "saloon" was mostly a side hustle to help pay the rent. So I see they moved into new digs down at the marina. I won't take off any stars for the following since this seems to be their new business model: Offering uber-expensive, skimpy portions of not especially tasty food targeted to yuppies who have more money than brains. Suffice to say that you won't see many Bikers hanging out here. The good: Their patio has a nice river view and a pleasant breeze. Sitting out there enjoying a cold one on a hot Summer day is very pleasant. And during the Fall too so long as it's not raining. People complain about the lack of parking which is not an issue when you show up on a motorcycle. But there are LOTS of places to park although you may have to walk a few yards... you poor darlings. Staff is less than amazing but they are always courteous towards me. I suppose I am no more their dream customer than they are my dream hangout. But Bikers tend to be very generous tippers so they might want to keep that in mind. There's one long-established watering hole in Cathlamet but it's a dark, indoor venue. I like it there and it's more of a dive bar with very good food. The thing about Cathlamet is that if you are just an occasional visitor you have many options of where to stop for a meal and/or drink and never get bored. There's also a few good places at the other end of the ferry ride in Westport, Oregon. Hard to say how long RM38 will stay in business. I'm actually surprised that they lasted in their original location for so long considering that they were only open for a few hours during the weekend. It would be great if they quit pretending to be an upscale eatery and instead focused on providing a good value, tasty, filling meal for the money. Again, no minus stars for that but until new management comes along and makes some changes it will just be a pint or two for me and i'm on my way. Of course as always YMMV.
