So disappointed with this place. The introduction to the room as great but shortly into the game clues were available but there was no light in the area. I couldn't read a few things myself, the younger people I was with could but then I couldn't study the clues myself without asking for help from them every time. I felt left out of the game. I was frustrated and upset the rest of the time. After I spoke with a staff member who said the light bulb was out. If that's the case give me a flashlight or let me use my phone light. The staff referred me to the manager who also could care less. So disappointed with the experience and lack of concern by staff. I wonder how long the light has been out and if they will even bother to fix it for the next group. read more

I came yesterday after being invited by a couple of friends to complete The Ruins. I was nervous when I realized that it would only be the three of us because my previous experiences were with a large group. We were able to escape and I'm wondering if smaller groups work better for escaping versus large groups. The experience was excellent from beginning to end. Upon entering, I noticed the lobby area was clean and open. We were greeted promptly and instructed to complete waivers since we hadn't been there in years. The check-in process was seamless. We received instructions and watched the video which was informative and concise. The puzzles were challenging but not unsolvable. I appreciated how the staff did an excellent job with their role in making it a fully immersive experience. I can't wait to go back!! read more

This place is so fun and the perfect place to hang out with your friends and do something different or go on a date! It is $26 per person like most escape rooms, and you book in advance online. The staff was super friendly and funny, and my experience here was great. I only tried one room, but from the props, lighting, and overall quality of it I will definitely be back to try more rooms. I tried out Baruta's Revenge. This room has the lowest success rate, and is just as hard as they warn you it is. However, I always like a challenge so I did it anyways. The rooms were really creepy and they did a great job of executing the theme! The introduction to the room gave us a good scare too. One thing about this room that I wasn't the biggest fan of (spoiler alert) was that many of the challenges involved you chanting/saying phrases out loud, where you would then be heard by whoever was on the intercom and then they would unlock the next steps for you. This was different because most rooms I have played in involved more hands on activities and challenges without involving people outside the room (staff) so it took a lot of time for us to figure out we had to say things out loud rather than find a key or something in the room. read more

I had a frustrating experience in the Ruins room. While the decor was very immersive, and it felt a bit like we were on the set of "Legends of the Hidden Temple", the puzzles were sub-par. None of the puzzles were cerebral - they were more like "place an object here" type puzzles. There were also some very frustrating red herrings - like when we unlocked laser pointers pointing at very specific things in the room... which were never used. To top it off, the staff was unhelpful and rude. Our game master constantly mumbled (both during our intro and when giving hints), so we couldn't understand half of what he said. At the end he rushed us out and wouldn't show us how the remaining puzzles in the room (which we did not finish) worked. He said we were the last game of the day and wanted to leave. We thought we at least deserved an explanation on how the other puzzles worked - although he did confirm that the lasers did nothing. Overall would not recommend if you truly like escape rooms. There are ones with much better puzzles in Charlotte. This might still be a good fit for those who haven't done many rooms, and are more interested in the immersion than the puzzles. read more

Today my sorority chapter visited Exit Strategy North as a bonding experience. It was so much fun! Corey, who was our main staff contact was absolutely phenomenal. My group went through the subject zero room, so scary! We beat it with a little over 3 minutes left from the hour time slot we were given to complete the escape room. It was so much fun and I can honestly say we are closer than when we entered. We worked together with our 2 and half collective braincells and came out victorious! What an incredible experience! The Ruins was extremely detailed and immersive from start to finish. The quality of the props, decor, and puzzles was truly incredible! It felt like we were actually in ancient ruins, right down to the sand covered floors. Quite a challenging room for us, but our hilarious and a Game Master, Lindsay, gave excellent clues when we needed help. She also did an awesome job of staying in character, which really added a lot to the experience! I can't wait to come back and try more of Exit Strategy's rooms and hope to have Lindsay as a GM in other rooms as well! read more

X marks the spot! Out of all of the Escape Rooms I've done, Exit Strategy is my favorite!!! I was super hype to visit their new location off of Mallard Creek Church Rd. It took a minute to find adequate parking. My group went in and got settled. The rules were explained to the 2 guests who were new to escape rooms. I visited the restroom and I loved the quotes and fun facts played over the speaker! After all cheating devices (cell phones) are locked away, we're lead to our room Subject Zero. We're left to handle our business with 60 min.... Unfortunately we were not successful, but had a great time nonetheless. The owners are so nice and we could have talked for hours! I'm already planning my next trip for my birthday next month! read more

A little while ago I attended the Spy Trainer escape room at Exit Strategy on Mallard Creek Church Road with coworkers and did not have the best experience. Being one who does escape rooms regularly I felt that the experience the first time at this location left a little to be desired. After speaking with the management I advised them of things that I noticed that could help to improve things at the business. I was impressed by their willingness to hear me and even act upon my concerns that it gave me a desire to want to try the facility a second time. This was a good sign for me regarding customer service as other businesses sometimes show a complacency but that was not the case here. Communication was very real and very open and I was glad to have had the chance to share with them. As a result of that discussion, I gathered up my friends and family and revisited the location trying a different much more popular room . This room that I tried was called The Ruins and it was definitely a better experience the second time around. I felt that the design of this room had a bit more continuity and an easier flow to follow. We successfully completed the room with 3 minutes to spare and took celebratory photos at the end. I am grateful to the management team for encouraging me to try their facility again as my experience mattered to them. That goes along way in 2019 and based on their efforts I feel they are more than worthy of a positive review and recommendation from me. I drove 2 hours to surprise my wife on her birthday with an escape room and we were refused service or a refund. I called to get all the details of the room before visiting and the lady on the phone suggested the "gone" room. She said I could buy extra tickets and get a private room for the 2 of us and would not be required to wear masks in the room. This was my main question and concern when booking an escape room and nothing is posted on their website about a COVID policy. I fully support a businesses right to operate in any manner they please and they don't have to allow people that haven't been vaccinated. However, If that was mentioned online or over the phone, I would have simply moved on and booked with a different company. (The Box is an amazing escape room). When we arrived, the lady at the counter was very rude and started asking questions about our medical history and wanted information on any vaccines we had received. We respectfully declined that Information, so she asked us to leave and said we would not be getting a refund. I emailed the owner (Dan Harmon) and thought there might be a misunderstanding, in hopes we may be able to enter the room or get a refund. Dan responded by calling me names and went on a rant about how there was a new law requiring people to wear masks and get vaccines. He also rambled on about a virus that traveled through the heat and air ducts of his business and lived on the surfaces within. Never heard of such a thing, but it does sound scary. Folks, these people have an agenda to push and they don't really care about our health or safety, it's all about them, and that's what truly scares me. Don't support these types of business and they will soon be gone. read more

Exit Strategy Charlotte, NC. The Ruins - review Bit of context - wife and I have done about 130+ rooms across 9 states with very few failures to escape. We judge rooms based on puzzles, story, prop quality, etc. This was a spur of the moment decision to go to with some really good friends who have done a couple rooms. This was one of the few rooms we have done on this road trip where we didn't coordinate with someone from the group first. Allegedly this is one of their easier rooms. I have done some difficult rooms over the years and this is definitely up there. The good: The room has positively amazing props and theme. I really felt like I was a tomb explorer like Indiana Jones or whatever for the entire experience. It was so well done. We had a lot of fun. A lot. Our Game Master (GM) was FANTASTIC. His name was Michael. We loved interacting with him. He played a role as well which helped set the tone. You can tell the owners and employees love working there and love escape rooms. This is a huge deal. Do remember that while this game is super hard there's unlimited clues so there's not too much of a good reason to not ask for clues if you get stuck. The improves: The room was so tough to the point where it nearly overcame my love for great sets. There's almost no way we would have made it out on our own. This doesn't bode well for newer escapees. Some nights we have off nights for sure but I'm not sure I feel that way about this room. I think it was just tough but it COULD be rectified with some tweaking. Some of the puzzles that I think could use some improvement: - one puzzle is similar to those parlor games they have in escape room lobbies or novelty stores where you have to undo a ring from two horseshoes. I despise these puzzles in rooms. This isn't AT ALL what the puzzle is, but it's a similar type genre. These are not good to have in rooms. The game master had to walk us through the puzzle. - there's a puzzle at the end that takes too long. It's hard to describe without spoiling. You'll know it if you get there. The ratio could be changed to make this puzzle a bit less tedious. - there's another puzzle that turns on something and it seems important but even after discussing with the page owners via fb messenger I'm not sure I understand the purpose. Some people in the Facebook group that had done the room before also weren't sure. I can't discuss that more without giving it away. - I don't love clues given over walkie talkies. There's theme music on which is awesome but it's hard to hear sometimes over the comms device. It fit with the room and the GM was awesome but it was hard to hear. It's not a huge deal though but it was hard to hear and we had to ask the GM to repeat a few times. In the end I love the room set so I'd likely come back, but the rooms are almost too difficult to the point where it makes it less fun. Not everyone will understand this reference but you want games to be difficult but not to the point where you feel like you are playing Dark Souls on difficult. I can't accurately judge the other rooms because I haven't done them. Just based on the GM saying this was allegedly one of their easier rooms. read more

So our group of 4 was put with another group of four at the last minute. Pretty disappointing but i guess acceptable given the fine print. What made it even less fun was the other group of four was getting clues back to back and ruining the game for us. The host didn't seem to keep the whole group in mind when handing out clues and the clues were more like giving out the codes themselves instead of a hint which made it less fun. Also the end of the game sequence was broken so the end was very anticlimactic. We asked what was supposed to happen and it sounded pretty cool. Just because a room can physically fit 8 people doesn't mean it's going to allow for an enjoyable experience for everyone. I feel like I missed most of the game because the group was too big and the other group didn't work together with us. I understand wanting to make the most money you can per hour but it negatively impacts the whole experience having 2 relatively large groups who play differently merged together. It's absurd to expect someone to book an entire room to avoid this. At the very least don't let part of the group ruin it for the others by getting answers back to back. You have cameras in the room, it'd be easy to avoid this. read more

I've done 10 escape rooms, and 8 of them were at different locations around the world. From Hawaii, Canada, parts of North Carolina, Exit Strategy North was my favorite out of all places! The experience from start to finish was incredible. Some escape rooms have a mediocre story line, with fun puzzles, but not a creative room. However, Exit Strategy North, had an awesome story line, fun puzzles, and creative rooms. They have exceeded my expectations and I thought to myself, FINALLY A REAL ESCAPE ROOM EXPERIENCE! We loved it so much that we did 2 rooms in one day! Our game master, Cristie, definitely tied the experience together, she was incredible! My fiance and I did Subject Zero and The Ruins and escaped both rooms just in time! We went to Charlotte to get somethings from Ikea and found Exit Strategy North. This can be an activity for people to do during some down time if you're in the Ikea area. The staff was also very friendly and made you feel welcomed. Exit Strategy is the best when it comes to providing the fully immersive escape room experience. We've been to both locations & each time we appreciate how clean, well organized, fun it is. Plus, they really go the extra mile when it comes to providing the ambiance for whichever theme you've selected. We even had a live actor assist with a proposal for our friends last time. They helped us orchestrate the planting of the ring for the big reveal & made sure our group had as much help as needed to ensure that we got through to the end for the proposal! This is the best of the escape room places I have been to for Charlotte. They have very challenging rooms, so if you expect to win all the time (like I have everywhere else) be prepared to possibly not make it. From the results on the wall (via wooden bottle caps) you have a 40% chance of completing the room. They need to improve the audio so you can hear what they are saying. That is a major impediment. We almost finished and the new employee spoiled the remaining secrets for us, one person in my party was upset since she wanted to come back and try and finish it, but with all the secrets spoiled that isn't going to happen. read more

This was my first time doing an escape room. So the fact that I did it with a group of friends for my birthday was great! We had so much fun. We did The Mansion and it was much harder than I expected, but we did make it out. Three things I would change is better lighting as it was difficult to see the numbers on some of the well used locks and clues. Turn the music down a notch or 2 in the room so we can hear each other without yelling. Lastly, get some props or something for the pictures afterwards. By far one of the best escape rooms in Charlotte in my opinion. They really utilize technology to make the theme fill real and they even have actors in some of the rooms. I've done the mansion and the spy training room and loved them both. The spy training room is great because you compete against the other group. So, I had a large group of friends and we split into teams and competed against each other. The hints they give are good because they don't give it away exactly but they try to give you a small clue to help you out. We had so much fun that we are going to go to the South Charlotte location to try out one of their rooms! I hope they keep adding new rooms because I feel an addiction coming on! Pro Tip: This is a great team building activity! We did it as a staff through my job and the themes were applicable to our work such as; communication, working together through situations with little direction, and keeping the morale high in tough situations. read more

We visited this location and had a blast! The staff were so friendly and helpful and the experience was great! Our guide, A-a-Ron, made the experience! Aaron, the guide for our archeological endeavors, had the staff of destiny! He helped us get into our room...well, actually, we helped him because he thought saying "leviosa" would get us into the room. Silly Aaron! Our team's experience here was awesome. We did the 'Mansion'Room. We were extremely impressed with the detail and puzzles. We had a team of four; only one person had not previously done an escape room. For the people that had done one before, this was by far our favorite. It was challenging and really pushed us to communicate and work together as a team. Went to NC with a colleague and some students for the National SAVE Summit and had some downtime. Thank goodness for Exit Strategy! Went on a Friday to complete Subject Zero and had so much fun we found ourselves back there to try out Baruta! Both rooms were fun and challenging! I can't say enough about Jay and his entire staff throughout both experiences. Kelly was so fun and accommodating on Friday and the two workers who helped us through the rooms on Saturday were awesome, too! Jay even helped us find a great place to eat sushi, and they were so helpful when we explained that we were going to our second experience with them on our way to the airport and had luggage to store. Not sure where else you can get this kind of customer service and experience in one bundle! So thankful we gave Exit Strategy North a try! read more

Some friends and I wanted to do a fun pre-Christmas activity to set off the holiday. I'll keep it short and sweet. We did The Ruins challenge and had a really good time. I hate that I can't remember the name of the young lady working the front desk, but she was so sweet to us. The date was 12.15.18 if that helps her manager to give her a pat on the back. I'm sure they can look up the schedule for that date. Additionally, Patrick was our Game Master. He too was kind, helpful, and very much in character. I noticed on the way out that they have student, military, and something like a "matinee" discount. I've now done 7 escape rooms through Exit Strategy between their two locations. They've all been great experiences. The rooms vary in the degree of challenge but I've never felt like "that was too easy," it's always been a race against the clock to try to get out. On top of that, the rooms absolutely nail it when it comes to immersion. It's really well done. This time Talia and Christine (sorry if I'm misspelling) were our guides and they made it a fun & exciting experience. This place was very nice, clean and organized. We have done escape rooms before but the mansion at Exit Strategy was by far the best one! Our game master, Ethan, was awesome! He did a great job with assisting us and made our experience even more interesting. I highly recommend this place.
