Fast+very cheap+on time+up front+no hassle. Just like the other reviews say! I got Yelp a/c just so I can write this! We paid half the price we were quoted by 2 other movers!
They moved us from a 2 BR 5th floor walkup in manhattan to Millburn, NJ and along the way, picked up 1.5 BR worth of stuff from a storage in NJ.
8.5 hours + 1 hr travel. 4 guys, 26 ft truck, 1050 grand total! It would have been cheaper, if we hadn't picked two days before the month end.
They absolutely didn't nickel and dime us and we only paid for 9.5 hours+tolls+$20 fuel charge...although I grossly underestimated the amount of stuff.
Although I had told them that all the packing and dis-assembly was on me, but they ended up dealing with a good amount of loose stuff and also disassembled 3 pieces of furniture.
Although I had told them that it was a 5th floor walkup...I forgot that I have a duplex so some stuff was on the 6th floor, and that there were 10 additional steps just getting to the building entrance.
Yes, they work hard and quick.
Booking them on a short notice was hassle free too. Their sales guy, Sergei, gave us rates for 4 days in a row with different rates on the phone and then emailed us the info.
We had two other companies come in to do estimates. Both quoted us around $2000. One of them wanted to use two trucks. Another wanted 6 guys and wanted to work on fixed rate. EQM people didn't do an on-site estimate. I felt that their phone estimate of 5 hours was low, and I turned out to be right, but Sergei was probably right for the amount of stuff I told them I had.
They tell you up front what may cost extra money (wrapping TVs, mattresses etc). I have old style TV. They offered to wrap it for $30, but when I hesitated, they said they could also just wrap it in a blanket. Didn't cost a dime. This TV is hardly worth $30, so it was nice of them to give me a way out. No it didn't break.
We had run out of tape by the time they showed up. We used their tape for our own last minute wrapping. Together almost 6 rolls of tapes were used to wrap stuff that day, but they didn't charge for "material"!
I tipped them 300 cash. They deserved it. Bought them McDonalds and plenty of water bottles, sparkling water.
They once wanted to take a break, and given their pace of work I of course said go ahead. Wasn't a long one. During unload, I asked them to take a break.
Oh, and they don't spend 15-30 minutes in the beginning and then at the end explaining you the docs, with clock ticking! Last time, I remember listening to the guy as the clock ticked and the crew just sat there before the guy finished talking and I signed the docs.
Few caveats:
-The main guy (Tim) was kind of cold and was complaining about stairs and amount of stuff in the morning. I was annoyed and let him know. In hindsight, he has a flat tone of voice, is a matter of fact guy, and his complaints were all valid. If you are looking for feel-good polished customer service and are willing to pay dearly for it, look elsewhere. These people are not rude, but do their job right and won't go the extra mile just to pamper you. Later we warmed up and the whole crew was professional and respectful. These are hard working Ukranian guys.
-Sergei the sales guy is good overall, but can mess up too. First he gave us a lower hourly rate for Sunday, only to tell me two days later that the owner said no. I believe it was an honest mistake and we had time to change our mind.
-It turns out they don't normally take credit card on sundays. Sergei didn't tell us that. But then they somehow made it work. read more
