I have used EQ movers twice in the past and I'm planning to use them again for our upcoming move next month. They are FABULOUS. Each time I've used them they have come in under budget and finished the move at least 1/2 hour early. The same 3 guys were there both times, and they are polite and FAST! The first time I had planned to disassemble my bed while they were moving the living room furniture downstairs, but by the time I got up to my bedroom they had the thing taken apart and had already put it on the truck. I wasn't sure how much to tip them, and the head guy (Alex?) very honestly suggested $100.00 for all three of them - the move was quoted about $45.00 more than the final bill came to, so I gave them $150.00 because it was their effort that saved the time and I figured they earned it. Some tips: I had a LOT of books. The first time they came I thought I was making it easier on them by packing them in big boxes - I figured they would be using hand trucks because there were no stairs to climb. They do NOT use equipment if they can help it, they are just strapping, enormously strong dudes who can literally lift anything. Tables? No problem. Antique dresser? Piece of cake. Spare elephant? They're all over it. These guys could probably have moved the house itself if I asked nicely. They very politely mentioned that next time I could use smaller, lighter boxes so that they could lift them individually instead of needing two of them for each box, which I did the second time I called EQ. Be careful to wrap framed art yourself however you want it packaged. They used blankets and bubble wrap, but one piece was broken in each move. Two reframings were not TOO expensive, but I will pack them myself this time. These guys can't help it, they're too damn strong for that flimsy glass. Buy them coffee. The first time they came I had just gotten back from Dunkin Donuts when they showed up (on time, by the way, and they were not familiar with my neighborhood). I brought back a Box'O'Joe and they looked at me like I was their personal messiah when I told them it was for them. They took about 4 seconds to make themselves cups of coffee, and all I can say is that it was like giving Popeye spinach. Their forearms popped out and one of them lifted a sofa over his head with one hand to celebrate. Buy them lunch. My estimate was $595.00 to go from Brooklyn to Long Island, including a travel fee and a very modest return trip fee for when they were finished (I think it was like, $20). The hourly rate was $85. I bought them a $20 pizza. Because I bought it for them, they wolfed it down in under 1/2 hour and were back at work immediately. They came in 45 minutes under the time estimate, which works out to about $64.00. Total savings $44.00. I have heard that they take longer eating on the clock if you don't provide food (although I think some people are a bit snarky about this - they do have to go FIND a place to get food if you don't provide it, which takes time). And for those of you who say "why do they need lunch, it's only a 4 hour move" - very nice attitude, jerks. Can you help when YOU get hungry? Especially if you're moving an entire house in a matter of a couple of hours? LET THEM EAT, you spoiled brats. Don't get in their way. Ever watch a really talented chef cooking? Ever try to "help" him? DON'T. They are out of your league and your puny human efforts will only distract them from their master plan of awesome. If you get in their way enough these guys just might get fed up and throw you all the way to Nebraska. Not really, they're super friendly, but they COULD. Expect to spend $50 to $75 on materials unless you provide your own. They won't ask before they use their own. They shouldn't have to. It doesn't make them dishonest, all moving companies do the same thing. If you don't want to pay for their wrapping stuff and their boxes and tape, GIVE THEM SOME. Duh. Anyway, these guys are really great and I highly recommend them. read more

NOTE: This is the third time I have posted this review. Each time, Yelp has buried it somewhere and made it inaccessible to readers who want to have a comprehensive set of viewpoints. YELP, why do you keep removing this? This was the worst moving experience I've had in all the years I've lived and moved in New York. The quality of their service was far from excellent and the level of professionalism no where near what I had expected after having read some of the reviews. To begin, I arranged for them to arrive at 1 p.m., but they showed up 2 hours late. My permitted window for moving into my new place was between 1-5. Would they make it in time? Not even close. A move from a one-bedroom apartment with an elevator in lower Manhattan to an apartment in an elevator building just 35 blocks uptown took them 7 hours! And I was paying $115 an hour for a team of three movers. At 10 at night, they finally delivered the final box. I had to beg the super in the new building to allow me to commandeer the elevator for five additional hours. The movers themselves showed no interest in speeding things along. I ended up carrying things and unloading things myself so I could finish before midnight. But the lengthy move was only part of the miserable service. The day after the move, after sorting through my things, I discovered that they had left 2 huge items behind: a full piano keyboard and a floor lamp. These are hardly things you would miss when packing a truck. I had to go back to my former apartment building and stuff the two things into a taxi to transport them myself. When I got back to my old building, I discovered that the maintenance guys had already put the things in the garbage room for removal. A day later and the things would have been crushed and carted off. Finally, a word about their professionalism. They moved an almost new 6-drawer dresser by taking out the drawers and bundling them together with moving tape. It was no surprise that the jarring of the truck in motion banged the dresser drawers together and crushed two of the drawers and scratched the face of all 6 of the drawers. What good is a dresser with two crushed drawers that won't fit in the dresser anymore? My appeal to the owner of the company for compensation was met with a customary directive to submit an application for an insurance claim. The shocking news was that a successful claim would net me only 30 cents per pound of damage. For a dresser that was about two-years old and cost $1300, my best hope for compensation for their incompetence was about $60. In the end, the damages incurred cost me about as much as the over-extended move of 7 hours. Unfortunately, anyone choosing this company is at their mercy. They can show up late, leave your stuff behind, and damage your property. There is little you can do and no willingness on their part to do what is right. You really can't guarantee a bare minimum of service. And for protection, you would have to pay extra for insurance so you wouldn't lose even more due to their unprofessional standards. Save yourself the extra expense and misery by choosing a more reliable company. Looking back, I ask, did it not occur to them that professional service meant wrapping up everything properly and checking to make sure they had all the items in the truck? As for showing up two hours late, I should have known that it could not end well and they were not the sort of company that considered service a priority. read more

DO NOT USE THEM! I've waited a month to write this review, giving this movers plenty of time to rectify the situation, yet they seem disinclined. I'll just list everything, and try to be as brief as possible. I've moved myself 11 times in the past 12 years, so I know a little something about moving. I was looking forward to a stress-free easy move, unfortunately, it was nothing but and I've spent so much time afterwards trying to clean up after. 1. They quoted me 3 hours. It took almost 8 (EIGHT!). If we had known if was going to take that long and be that expensive, we would've moved everything ourselves. We can't afford that. They did tell me when they showed up, it would probably take a bit longer than 3 hours (they thought 4-5). I was okay with that....but it became quite ridiculous- there was a lack of efficiency in moving, making a trip into the house with two small bookshelf boards or one chair? 2. They lost our $300 Bose speaker. Speakers were in the original box, albeit a small box. movers says that they don't know where they are (we have opened every single box in case they were stuffed someplace, and looked for a month at our new and old house- they are nowhere to be found). movers keeps saying that since it was a small box, it wasn't their fault. They should be careful with expensive items, they could've handed them to one of us so we could've taken care of it, I didn't even know the speakers were sitting on a pile of boxes. The movers either lost or stole the speakers, neither of which says great things about the company. 3. Huge scratches on our wood and bamboo floors. They did send someone to look at them and supposedly a company is supposed to come fix the floors, although the scratches in the bamboo are so deep, I'm doubtful how this will be accomplished. 4. Customer service. It's great when you're booking a move, they call you right back and answer any questions. After the move, when you're having problems, not so great. I called and left message, no one called me back. I called and got a person, who said she would check on things and get back with me next morning. No call back. I emailed the next day. Finally, almost 5 days after my original call, did someone call to talk with me about all the issues I had. It's been a month and anytime I mention the lost speakers and/or the fact that the move took 2.5 times the quoted time I get the run around. Go with another company and save yourself some stress. read more

I used Excellent Quality Movers only once in my life, and I will never do so again. The movers arrived a little bit late than the scheduled time. One of the movers, Andrew, greeted me with no smile, lots of bad attitude and started lecturing on what I should do, although I explained to him that I have packed and wrapped everything and won't need any packing or wrapping help. Andrew got very angry as he was trying to sell his services (I know it's a tough sell but come on...) and said that I would be responsible for any parking tickets, if any. It was sadly believable that I heard the merchant say that the customer is responsible for any tickets. That is so rude and unfair. Then, Andrew explained that I am also responsible for paying any tolls. None of this was mentioned beforehand. I asked Andrew not to drag my furniture and my stuff on the ground, which I wrapped and covered beforehand, and Andrew had the nerve to tell me that the only way to take it out is by dragging it on the ground. From this moment I understood that Andrew has anger management issues, as he became upset with me not purchasing any of their wrapping and packing materials. Because I wanted to avoid any confrontations, I did not argue with him. Andrew intentionally asked the guys to take their time and work slowly so that they can charge me more at the end as well. After they took my bed apart, they got to the new apartment and after putting the bed parts together the bed was shaking because Andrew didn't tighten the screws well. Then, I asked him to put back the parts of the other furniture after he took them apart but refused to do so, saying that I can do it myself. Andrew also had the nerve to tell me that I should start unpacking from their loading car, instead of him doing it. Why would I unpack and do his job, when I am paying Excellent Quality Movers to unpack and unload my stuff? I have no apology or sympathy for base creatures willing to cater to the lowest common denominator to make a fast buck. People do not use this company, as it is terrible! Excellent Quality Movers will charge you extra for services that are not rendered. If you decide to go with them, make sure they do not send you Andrew, as he has is rude, has no manners, class, and can't even speak proper English. Andrew had also the nerve to tell me at the end of the move I should tip his guys a $50 tip each. Despite my terrible experience because I am a nice person, I gave all three a FAT tip. read more

I had used Excellent Quality Movers in the past and it was great, but after a recent experience, I can no longer recommend them. So following my move a few years ago, I reached back out to Sergei to schedule my next move. We went back and forth a couple times, and he eventually convinced me to use 4 movers instead of 3 because it would be faster and save me money, which was also good because the building I was moving out of and into, had moving hours, so time of was the essence so as to not get fined for moving outside of moving hours. He confirmed 4 movers for my move date, so to my surprise on my move date, only 3 movers showed up. These guys were fine, but not nearly as fast as the guys I had a few years ago. Things were made even slower by the fact that they were sent with the smallest truck available. This added to the time needed to move as they needed to constantly rearrange the truck in order to fit all of our stuff in it. This is made more shocking when you realize we didn't take our couches with us. Had we brought our couches to our new place, they wouldn't have fit in the truck. I don't know how this is even possible, but somehow, despite being told we had a 2 bedroom, and not bringing our couches (which we didn't let them know) they still sent a truck that could barely fit all of our stuff. Also, when I left the first apartment and went to the second one, it took 45 minutes for the truck to show up. Now if they went to lunch, that's fine, I get they need to eat, but let us know that ahead of time instead of just not showing up for 45 minutes. Long story short, all of this lead to them taking more than 9 hours to move us 6 blocks, and we got fined for moving outside of the move-in window at the new building. Sergei told me not to worry because they'd only charge us for 3 guys, but considering he told us getting 4 guys would save us money, I don't feel like this was a good enough of a make good, especially when you consider that we got fined. He refused to give us any other discount for this mess. Long story short, the movers themselves were fine, nothing special like the last time, but they were fine, everything else was a complete mess. I have gone from highly recommending EQM 5 years ago, to saying you need to steer clear of these guys now. read more

I found myself in a bind and needed movers asap from Kew gardens Queens to Mott st in Manhattan. On November 10 @ 2259hrs I got on crag list and click on movers via labor, click on Quality Movers and my search was over. That being said, I called and spoke to Alex and it was clear and to the point from how much base fare $ 125.00 and if they get a ticket (parking) guess who pays lol yes ME, too the traveling would be the killer. Alex called me the day before to ensure we were on for tomorrow which was November 15 @ 9 am. I was up at 730 am after I showered got dressed had coffee. I left the house to go to the bank to get cash @846 am and my two men and a van were outside ready. I was a happy camper. After that it was a wrap. The Men (and sorry I can't recall there names, however I called them my 2 men and a van. Anyway was worried as they park by the meters and had till 930 am to move. They came upstairs it was like boom boom boom in what was going and what I need such as a box for loose things to no they would not take my plants they rather I take my own plants because they will not make it in one piece. I was trying to help however, the best way to help was STAY OUT THERE WAY, which I did. This how it went they were here @ 9 am packed the truck and left @ 930 am. I got to Mott st first unsure were they were I called Alex and he let me know exactly were my Men were on his GPS (loving it). My men arrived a little after me. They found parking right in front of the building and by 11 am I was signing on the dotted line and paid what Alex said I would was which was $ 125 and I tip my Men $25 each. I wish I could have given more but times are hard and I live on a budget. Note: Granted all I had to move was about 20 boxes, bins and 2 ward rope closet but I'm sure given a bigger job they would do the same BEST JOB EVER. In writing this a friend called and I just gave her Alex number and let her know small or big JOBS these are the guys to call and I gave her Alex contact information and I locked in my cell and will forward to anyone looking for 2 MEN and a VAN. these guys are seriously the real thing-- they definitely lived up to their name! our team-- mike, alex, anatoly, and viktor-- were all fast, hardworking, and professional movers, as well as very nice guys. i totally recommend them! after calling up and talking to a few other moving companies i found on craigslist, i decided to go with EQM because they had the best rate i could find for a 4-man team and a 26' truck, and because the person i spoke to, jack, was very courteous and professional. this was about a week before our moving day, december 2nd. later that afternoon, jack sent me a very detailed and informative email confirming our date and price quote and clearly explaining their policies. and when i emailed back with a question, he promptly replied with a helpful answer. and he gave me a call the evening before the 2nd to confirm. after a really tough week of packing up our old apartment-- a 3 bedroom with 10 years of accumulated stuff (!), it was actually a relief when sunday morning came and the team showed up. in fact, the actual moving day was the least stressful day of our whole moving process! right away, we were put at ease by their friendly demeanor. we did a walk-through of all the rooms, and the lead guy, mike, gave us his assessment of how much time he thought it'd take them for the whole thing. it was definitely under what we had expected. they immediately got to work, and we knew we were in good hands. we were amazed at how fast and efficiently they worked, without complaint and with a sense of humor, too. i had at least a few extremely heavy boxes, which i felt kind of bad about, so when i happened to see one of the guys pick one up and jokingly make a face while the other guys laughed, it made me feel a little better. they were also very careful with everything they touched. the whole move took 7 hours (including travel time), but as i said, we had a ton of stuff. we were completely happy with the job they did and would certainly hire them again. thank you, EQM, for making our move as painless and stress-free as possible! read more

I found Excellent Quality Movers on here because they had excellent reviews that made me feel comfortable using their service. I'd been preparing for the move to a new place a mile away for weeks and had most of my items already organized and boxed up. They said I had to have my miscellaneous items in a box too, so they charged me $20 to use their open container and dolly, loaded up my golf clubs, clothes drying rack and a few smaller items, but did not seal the container and didn't add it to my inventory list. When I signed for the boxes and counted them at my new place, the list didn't include the open container, and I didn't notice I was missing my golf clubs until later that night. However, my clothes drying rack and smaller items survived the move. The next day I contacted the company about my missing golf clubs, and my contact throughout the whole move apologized and offered $150 for them or instructed me to file a claim. But since I didn't buy extra insurance for the move, I'm apparently insured only $0.30 per pound. I went back to my old apartment the same day and looked at the closed circuit TV with the building manager, which showed the movers loading up the golf clubs. Then I asked the building manager at my new apartment building if I could see the CCTV for the move in. It clearly showed my drying rack and smaller items in the open container - the last thing to be moved in - but the golf clubs were missing in the video footage. I'm still working with the insurance company to file the claim. At this point I'm not expecting much from Excellent Quality Movers but might pursue this in small claims. In the meantime I want to get my warning out there as soon as possible: Beware Excellent Quality Movers. They not only lost (or stole) my golf clubs but the experience trying to resolve this has been really disappointing and stressful. read more

WOW! There aren't enough words to describe how amazing our move went! We moved from a one bedroom apartment in Brooklyn to a house in NJ. After receiving a quote from another company for $2500, we were about to call it quits and move ourselves. Then my husband found Excellent Quality Movers and saw other reviewers talk about the great service and prices. $85/hr for 3 men! We thought there would be a catch, but even with travel fees our move was only about $700 total. WOW! Alex B. was professional and so efficient! He disassembled and reassembled all of our Ikea furniture with lightening speed. His team were polite and hardworking. We practically had to beg them to take a break and eat the Subway sandwiches we bought for them. We started our move at 9:00 a.m. in Brooklyn and the whole truck was unloaded (including furniture assembled) by 3:30 p.m. in NJ. We NEVER could have done it that well or fast ourselves! All of our furniture was handled with such care by Alex B. and his team (Tonye? and I didn't catch the other man's name). They wrapped each dresser with blankets and taped over the blanket to keep the drawers secure. When unloading the truck at our NJ home, they politely asked us where we wanted each item/box and cautiously made sure not to ding any walls. Because the prices are so low, I assume these men are probably not paid as well as other moving companies (just my assumption, not a fact!!). Either way, they were so hardworking and speedy that we gave them each a nice tip to hopefully compensate for the possibility of low wages. They deserve every penny and more for all the grief they saved us! HIRE THESE GUYS! It'll be the best money you spend and save you from a lot of headaches (and back aches!). read more

Spoke to Sergiet the owner of Excellent Quality Movers and quoted me a great price for a truck and three men. I had to cancel the move three times and had no problem with any of the cancellations. Sergie is very nice, courteous, and will to work with his customers. Moved was this month June 2011, for 8:30 A.M...the truck, Alex, Danny, and the driver showed up before 8:30 A.M. Alex came up with all the paper work and explain everything which made it simple and easy for me to understand filled out. He took a look around to see how many boxes and piece were going in the truck. Than he went back down to get some tape and Danny came up with him and they started to move boxes right on time 8:30 A.M. This was a walk-up 4th floor moved from Queens to the Bronx, and these two guys were going up and down these stairs as if nothing...they never complained about how heavy any of the boxes I packed up were. These young men are very professional at their job, fast, respectful, and polite. They were done in no time and in the Bronx right after I got there. They has everything in my Bronx, apartment in about half an hour and nothing was damage on the moved. The best thing about Excellent Quality Movers is how they treat their customers with respect, the price and the professional movers...I highly recommend them. I just wanted to say some good things about the crew of Michael from the EQM. The guys were truly professional and looked sometimes even like the army to me :-). All of them were uniformed and demonstrated great teamwork, obviously saving time and money of their client through the perfect organization of the moving process. In Operations Management we are calling it "the well-oiled machine". The whole job of moving our 1BR apartment from Brooklyn to Manhattan took reasonable 4 hours, taking into account that not everything was packed properly by me and my wife. The guys came right on time and had to organize the wheeled "supply route" to their truck along our street, since no parking was available nearby. To keep them running I bought some water, cause they also had to do some stairs and our sofa was really heavy. All our furniture and music came to the new location with very few scratches, for what I want to give special thanks to the crew. Two items I ordered to be wrapped in bubble came intact at all. After unloading they assembled the bed, since there were still 5 minutes left to the deadline; from what I see they tried to provide value to the client for all of his money instead of "stretching time" in the last hour of work. All in all, our couple spent less time for moving than we expected and I tipped the guys $70 each also because they did the job one hour faster then we expected them to. Just moved on 8/24/2014 and everything went very smoothly. Had a HUGE West Elm bed with side tables & storage drawers. He and his team were true to their word and performance... $505.50 total and I had A LOT of stuff... I also helped carry it which enabled us to finish in 2hrs 19mins.... That includes from the point of arrival to emptying one apartment, dismantling the WEST ELM monster bed to dropping everything off at the new place and putting that bed back together. I had such a great experience with Excellent Quality Movers that I had to write them an awesome review. Rhine and his team did such a fantastic job moving my one-bedroom apartment. Each of the three guys worked with only minor breaks for about 5 hours. It took longer than I anticipated, but mainly because I hadn't packed a few things properly (lots of little things to pack/repack) and Rhine was really courteous and polite (and PATIENT!) the whole time. He explained the pricing of packaging things and was really professional about everything. His team worked diligently to pack and load/unload everything, and they were all friendly and courteous the whole time. It was so late when we finished and they even offered to reassemble the couch that had the legs taken off...I'm still unpacking but so far everything is in very good shape, nothing broken or lost, which is really comforting after planning a very last minute move. I should mention, Jack (who I booked the moving appointment with) was also really helpful and accommodated my last minute request for movers and even fit me in to the end of the day schedule (although I wouldn't recommend starting a move at 7pm, it's a long friggin day.) I just wanted to write and give Rhine and his team a good shout out, they really are fantastic! I'll definitely be recommending them to my friends and family in the future. These movers are simply terrific: punctual, professional, conscientious. They definitely live up to their name Excellent Quality. We hired three guys for a large 1-BR move within Brooklyn and they not only moved our things, they also helped pack up loose ends when it became clear we weren't as prepared as we thought we were. They also extra-secured furniture and "soft" items. For example, I bought a plastic couch cover that I taped over our couch but they redid it much more securely with a furniture pad and plastic that covered the whole thing (no gaps like with the flimsy cover I bought).It arrived in perfect condition, as did everything else. We also had put soft items like towels and sweaters in industrial garbage bags. They put these in boxes before moving. Brilliant. They clearly know what they're doing. The crew leader also checked with us about any items that seemed to have prior damage. It was minor, but I really appreciated his attention to everything and that the communication was so clear and up front. And the price was half of what I had budgeted for the move. Downright inexpensive, especially for the exceptional quality. It would have been worth it at double the cost (so tip the guys well). In short, I was really impressed with these movers. I would use them again and will recommend them to everyone I know. read more

Moving is no fun and I've done it a few times before, but the move by this company was one of the worst experience of my life. Initially, one of their sales people, Sergei, came to my house and gave me a quote of about $1,800. I was essentially moving a 2-bedroom apartment within Astoria with some items to storage. It sounded like a better deal than what some other company offered so I went with these guys. It turned out to be a really bad mistake. Despite the initial estimate, the move with this company ended up costing me almost $3,000! That's not even the worst part. They ruined my living room coffee table and end table which cost several thousand dollars. It was later disclosed by the movers that they placed my brushed metal tables directly onto the metal floor of their truck without any padding whatsoever. Metal on metal. An entire side on each of the two tables are irreparably scratched. When I informed Sergei of the damage, he just stressed that I'd better pay them for the move, which I did. Sadly, they don't offer any insurance options. I asked about it right before the move and was told that they don't offer any. That should have been my red flag right there but I felt that it was too late for me to go with anyone else at that point because I had to move from the premises. Great job!!!!!!Can not be any happier!!! Thanks, guys, for making my move to CT such a smooth, hassle and stress free experience. We've been recently relocating from 2 bedroom Brooklyn apartment to the townhouse in CT and were lucky enough to hire Excellent Quality movers Everything was done excellently - Alex and his crew arrived 15 min earlier, packed all our stuff, disassembled furniture, wrapped everything in a professional manner (i moved few times and never seen such a quality job). Guys left the old apartment 10 minutes earlier than us and got to the new place before we did. Unloading process went even quicker - they put all the furniture pieces together, brought our boxes into the exact rooms my wife asked them to, and even took all the empty boxes downstairs for us!!! The entire job was done within 8 hours, and the total cost came to be exactly as estimated, no hidden b*s* fees or charges. These guys were great! Alex and his crew arrived 15 minutes early, got to work immediately, were efficient, & careful with all of my furniture. They even took extra time repairing a cheap dresser that was coming apart (I told them not to worry about it but they took a few minutes to reinforce the back for me). They arrived at the new building at almost exactly the same time we did. They unloaded everything quickly & had no issues carrying my two piece sectional sofa up 5 flights of stairs when it wouldn't fit in the elevator. They worked very quickly - even though they were dealing with a very slow elevator. They were polite and professional. Price was very reasonable - their hourly rate, including the cash discount, was by far the best I was quoted. As for the reviews complaining of extra fees - if you have all your stuff packed and ready to go you can avoid those fees. They will charge extra for any boxes they have to supply - but they will give you the exact costs for that kind of stuff in the quote they email to you so there are no surprises.
