Spa Goer beware : major inconsistencies in level of ability and talent on massage team. I've had a couple grade "B" massages here but am prompted to write this regarding a massage therapist named TANYA whom I saw 4 days ago: schedule with someone else. Please know I'm not out to ruin anyone's career but for the price point she didn't come close in quality but rather it felt as though she was just out of school. I am a 20+ year fitness professional who understands service AND I wrote the front desk manager directly regarding this service: her reply was completely underwhelming and unapologetic. She kept me on my stomach for the entire hour. I've never experienced this before. Felt nothing like deep tissue (which I booked) more like weak Swedish massage. She did no specific articulations on my feet after having told her this was an area of need (she asked). Her sequencing and progressions didn't make sense and she barely worked on my lower back and hips, the other two areas I called out to her. She didn't touch my neck. Her hands weren't strong and strokes were unfulfilling in nature. I couldn't tell the massage was over when it was, my low back was achey from lying on my stomach for an hour, she didn't say goodbye or check in with me when I exited the treatment room. Completely unsatisfying and underwhelming massage experience. Icing on the cake: no hot water for tea and people's leftover snacks lying around in the (small) waiting room. read more

I would like to recommend Jacques Sochan at Evo Spa for massage therapy. I see him twice a month and he has helped me immensely. Jacques is unique because of his multiple skill sets and techniques including sports, Swedish, deep tissue, shiatsu, lymphatic and reflexology massage. His ability to be versatile based on the specific needs inherent in a person's body means the client receives a truly individualized experience tailored with precision. Absolutely insane prices even for Marin. Went in for a red light therapy session as I've heard so much about it lately and I'm trying out different locations in the area. This one is ridiculously priced - $75 for 25 ish minutes. Huh? It's not really as if one can enjoy any other "spa" amenities, as would normally be offered at a "spa". Except there is tea and nuts offered in the waiting area. The red light bed doesn't have a dedicated room. It's shared with another bed of some sort. Many many red light saunas / beds in the area, so I suggest you explore if you're interested in the treatment. read more

I couldn't help but compare this place to Sumbody in Alameda. Both are part of a general shopping district, have a store front with products for sale with the spa located in back of the store. Evo Spa, though, is larger and there's more privacy. I had a reflexology treatment which was pretty good. It's a bit more expensive ($100 for 1-hour) than I'm used to paying but the overall experience and mood of the spa is perhaps worth it. I just wish I could relax on the table after the treatment is over. There's always that pressure to get up and out because they need to clear the room. Somewhere there must be a spa that allows for that down time after the treatment. Maybe a Disneyworld type of arrangement where your massage table is on a track and just moves to a different room and environment? read more

Everyone here is really nice & I've never had a bad treatment. I've been sprayed head to toe for a golden glow, I've been waxed & tinted & massaged & bought great gifts here. Just Evo's little front shopping area is wonderful (robes, candles, jewelry, handbags...), but the back is really where it's at. Just pass through those incredible doors & you'll be in heaven. All the rooms are so nice & like I said, everyone is friendly. This is no Massage Envy. You get what you pay for here, too. The price is well worth it. Crystal is my favorite for lash tints & waxes, but I don't always get her & I still leave satisfied. Why only 4 stars? I've ordered clothing items from Evo & they've never called to tell me that the item has arrived. First time having a facial at Evo. I was so excited since I am a mama of three and needed this more then anything! I arrive and was impressed by the little store and the smiles when I opened the door. Why I am writing a 2 star review was for the actual service I was provided after the facial and the time cut from my service time. I noticed that my facial time was cut close to 30 minutes short of what I paid for. When I went to the front desk after to inquire about why it was shortened, her response was, "it depends on who you get, sometimes one person is faster then the other". She goes on to say, "it's the service not the time you are signing up for". If I wanted a 50 minute service, I would have signed up for it. The pamphlet clearly outlines the time of each package. All in all, I was taken back by her response. This mama left heading back to my busy family when I should have been still on the table being pampered and relaxing for the money and package I paid for. read more

I love this place. It has become my secret healing sanctuary during these crazy time. I was lucky enough to meet Kristiana for a facial. So superbly professional and just an overall yummy person. I had the monthly special facial and was being complimented left and right for how my skin looked. I also saw David for a massage and was able to just be honest with where I was at and what I needed, and he was wholesome and extremely precise and intuitive in finding my issued spots around my upper spine. They have one of the best gift shops in Marin, as well. You find the most interesting little treasures there. I also found the "secret menu" item of a foot detox bath. A big shout out to Nick. I had a 90 minute massage with him and he was excellent. Extremely knowledgeable, he managed to work on all of my tension spots and relieved most of them. I walked out feeling refreshed and 100% better. He listened to my issues and worked diligently on them. He absolutely knew his craft and is passionate about alternative therapies. This is my local go-to Spa and I really enjoy it. ^Parking: plenty of parking to be had in the Strawberry Village Center. Spa is located near Starbucks. ^Lobby: so many goodies! They have an excellent buyer (Kara) who has the best taste! They stock everything from VoluSpa candles to Eminence and Kai skincare. They have Skinceuticals and other lines too. I really need to spend more time investigating bc they have a lot of natural, organic skincare lines. They also carry jewelry and clothing. It's a tiny lobby but packed full of goodies. ^Waiting Area: cozy and they have an assortment of teas, fruits and nuts. You can change into a robe before your service. I love the heated neck thingies they give to you. ^Services: I've only gotten the massages here but they are excellent. Danica is my favorite! I'm a wuss so light to medium pressure is perfect for me. The issue is I have intense back pressure from the constant sitting in front of a laptop. Danica finds a happy medium with me, even though I know I need to buck up and deal with it. ^Customer Service: also excellent. Everyone is friendly, courteous and professional. They make it easy to do business with them. I did take one star off bc the noise level can be a bit much depending on the room you're in. Meaning, you can hear people speaking and walking to the waiting area etc. I'm the type to zone out during my massage so this is a tiny bit bothersome. Evo Spa is my go to spa for a massage or facial . I have never had a poor treatment there . All there staff are well trained . I find little inconsistency at Evo which has been a big problem for me at other spas & massage places. I must say I enjoy the waiting area very much before or after a treatment . Five plus stars for Linda who does spray tans. What is going on in management over there? I was just told they have been pre-authorizing prepayments on my account for every appointment made. I never gave approval on this or was informed about this even happening. The manager said it was bc I change appointments often. I am completely entitled to do this plus 24 hour notice. So offensive and ridiculous. In addition, I spend approximately 300 in their shop every time I come in. Mom of young kids, plus full time and schedules change. I think this is very ignorant, especially in Marin where many moms are also trying to look good, work a job and be around for their kids. I need this addresses. read more

I great prime location in Strawberry Village, Mill Valley. I got a Christmas gift certificate to Evo Spa from my lovely cousins, and i used it to get my boyfriend a massage. Because Evo Spa is surrounded by coffee, cafe and stores, it was fun walking around and kill time. In the end I ended up stepping into their waiting room, which was super lovely and i felt very calm waiting there. It smelled like fresh spa scent and it had complimentary water/snacks. When my boyfriend came out of his appointment, he had nothing but positive feedback. He said his masseuse who was a male, was amazing and great at massaging. He listened to my boyfriend's needs and where he was having pain. My boyfriend said he even learned couple technics which he thought were very good and helpful. Just had my second facial with Lori Ann, she is fantastic. I have very sensitive skin so she always uses the appropriate products for my face that will give me the least discomfort. My favorite thing about getting facials with her would probably be how she tells me exactly what product she is going to use and how it's going to make my skin feel I.e "this may tingle/feel a little stingy" it makes you feel at ease and the sensation isn't as much of a surprise. My face always looks amazing afterwards and all the products that she recommends to me help me out so much in between facials. This morning I went into the spa, and the front desk associates were very unhelpful and not able to assist me. My daughter and I visited Evo for our annual mother- daughter spa pampering day. We were greeted at the front desk, and then shown to a waiting area. The waiting area is simple, with couches, chairs, snacks, water, tea, and warmed neck pillows. We filled out the required forms, and proceeded to have our treatments. The practitioners were experienced and the services provided were fine. My recommendation is to have front desk staff greet patrons with robe and slippers, and then send them to the shower area and lockers. We changed our clothes in the treatment rooms, and feel it would have been more comfortable and practical to change in the locker room. This would have allowed for a pre or post treatment shower as well. read more

Therapeutic Massage for Rachel. It's always all about me. For some reason I always get the hottest masseuses. There was petite French Claire. There was Nordic Swen with the biggest hands (and I'm sure it didn't stop there) that I've ever seen. There was good ol' American Andrew -- who I'm sure saw my boobs. Whatever. He was so hot, I would have paid him... Oh wait. I did. And then today, there was Iris. Iris. Not hot. Looked like my mom. Demure, slightly spiritual and quiet. I was skeptical. I like it hard. I like it deep. Iris didn't seem like the type that would make me her massage bitch... I was wrong. Iris has the Kung Fu grip. Iris knows the pressure points that make your eyes roll back in your head, while you lose all feeling in your legs. Iris knows how to rub and tug with the best. I might have called Iris "Daddy" at some point during our all too brief hour sesh. My life is still in shambles, but thanks to Evo, I'm going down knot free with a touch more debt and a new lesbian crush. read more

The WORST! Illegal billing and then they blamed me! This place has gone down hill and they do NOT care about the customer ONLY the MONEY!! My 80 year old mother was in town and had never had a massage. I thought this would be a fun thing for us to do together and so I took her to Evo. We both had massages and the experience was okay (girls at the desk are not knowledgeable and it is cluttered and disorganized). Mom paid with her credit card, we tipped and left. The following week an additional charge showed up on my mother's card from Evo Spa and she called me concerned about it. I was sure it must have been a mistake and called the spa. They PURPOSELY ran her card again because they made a mistake when they checked us out!! No one called first to see if that was okay. No one apologized! I was shocked!! During our telephone call they just said things like "Don't you think you should pay for your services?" Sure but if you tell me that I did, I think I did, and you decide a week later that it should be more - you can't just charge the card again!! I have never seen this anywhere. They finally agreed to reverse the additional charge but they were nasty and unpleasant about it and never acknowledged that they may have made an error. If it were possible I would give them negative stars. read more

I'm torn with this review. There is one waxer there, Ruby, who is a total 5 star experience. If you want a Brazilian done right, and with the right attitude, ask for Ruby. But, the rest of them... I've had better. This last one, Michelle, not only did she make the "triangle" way too narrow (even after I showed her what I wanted), most of the hair broke off, not pulled out by the root, causing ingrown hairs where she never should have waxed in the first place. then she chastised me for yelping when she ripped off a particularly sensitive bit. She reused the Popsicle stick too! I only just found out that's illegal and unsanitary! On top of that, she didn't go back and tweeze to ensure that she got everything. Now, I"m flexible, but even I have trouble tweezing down there!!! So I had stubble on my legs almost immediately! What did I pay for a wax for? Earlier, the spray on tan I got left white stripes down the underside of my arms, looking like racing stripes. Not good when I was wearing a halter style sequin dress to the Emmys! I had to put makeup on it to cover! And the last facial used some kind of something that made my eyes burn and turn red (although my skin radiated and looked beautiful). So they aren't bad bad. And they are really close so I was really really hoping that they rocked. But they don't. Great shopping, perky front desk girls, and a lovely atmosphere only go so far. I read reviews and also found a Marin choice award as being the best spa in the county... there must have been a mistake or the voting system is rigged because this place has clearly changed for the worse. Friday afternoon traffic had its way with me and I had arrived to my appointment 5 minutes late. If this was going to be a problem they should have let me know from the minute I walked in the door. Instead they made me wait an additional 5 minutes. The woman who worked on me said that she didn't have enough time to work on me properly... meaning to pull out the tweezers and pluck the hairs that didn't pull out with the wax... however I was charged for the full service. The next day I went to a nail salon... for half the price they finished the job. So I paid for a service I did not receive, they let a potentially great customer walk away unsatisfied. Sloppy technicians, rude, snotty service. I will not recommend nor will I return. read more

After the post I received a nice email from management apologizing and offering me a complimentary massage followed by a note saying that they have trained all of their massage therapists to be certified in prenatal massage. I came here for a brazillian wax (which I regularly get, but from a different place), and let me just say, I should have stuck with my regular place. Lets start with the positive...Evo spa is a beautiful space. They are the first place in Marin that I have seen carry my favorite skin care products (Eminence) and when I called to make my appointment, the woman who answered the phone was very friendly and accommodating. She was able to get me in very quickly and was super nice. Now for the not so positive. Not only is Evo spa a bit pricey, the wax that I received did not leave me smooth AT ALL, gave me extreme ingrown hairs and left my skin feeling sore even after the initial waxing time. Now, I am not a wimp, as I said I do get this done regularly, but the results of this service pretty much left me feeling as if I had shaved my bikini area...I am all bumpy, itchy and prickly. Also, she didn't wax me all the way back...which is one of the reasons why people get brazilians and not french waxes. Not to mention when I tried to chat with the waxer, she was very short with me and not at all comforting. When I left to check out, the woman who checked me out also seemed short and snooty I booked my appointment with Evo because I had received a Spa Finder gift card through work, and they are one of very few spas in my area that accept those, but I think next time I will just purchase products with it. read more

Evo is a beautiful, tranquil place. But it is WAY overpriced. If I win the lottery, I'll definitely blow a lot of it here. But until then, probably not coming back. I got the "bliss" package: a 1hr massage and 1hr facial. The massage was decent; could have been deeper, and it would have been nice if she'd given a bit more love to the hip I had a soft tissue injury on. The facial was... interesting. I'd never had one before so I wasn't sure what to expect. My facialist was gentle and talked about affordable products to use, which I liked. She even went and put together a little "package" for me at the counter. Unfortunately, when I got to the counter and they gave me my total, I discovered her definition of affordable and mine differed by, uh, a couple hundred bucks. WTF lady? I tell you what products I use and you agree that you can give me something better for about the same price, then you sell me a $60 3oz moisturizer? Makes no sense to me. And because I'm a sucker, I bought it all. Ugh. Should not have done that. At least my skin looks nice. read more

So last year was really stressful, to the point of causing anxiety. I decided 2007 would be different and decided to become a spa whore (with some secret financial help of course). So, I just have to say that so far, Evo is one of my favorite whoring spots. I have been here three times. Now, it's a small spa, and maybe not the place to go relax ALL DAY. But, if you book one or two treatments, you're good to go. They have tea or flavored water for you in the lounge. There's a cute little shop to browse through when you first walk in. But the best part are the rooms! they are oval shaped and relaxing. I think they have pics of them on their website. Anyway, they are simple, yet so different and calming. Ok, the first treatment I had was a facial (wouldnt you know, I forgot her name). She was a sweetheart too, but this was over a month ago. Anyway, my skin glowed (and I have acne prone/dryish skin). But the treatment was in a regular room. The next time I had a massage with Donna. Donna was sweet, but she had such a soft touch I barely knew I had a massage. Oh well. If you like that sort of thing, she's your girl - other wise go for Jackie. My boyfriend is in love with Jackie. He always wants to go to her because she knows how to massage him right (ok, calm your dirty minds). The last treatment I had was the Orange Blossom scrub. Yahoo! I never had a scrub before, but it was so much fun! Bf was supposed to have Jackie for massage, but she did my treatment (haha). Anyway, they start with a dry scrub, then a salt scrub, then wrap you in a blanket and leave you for 15 or so minutes. It's done on this crazy water bed massage table thing that they turn on and it massages you. Ahhh. .. I was so bummed out when it stopped. Anyway, while that bed is doing it's thing, the room fills up with steam. Then you get up, shower off (in the same room) and then they moisturize you on that bed again. I was glowing after and my skin was so soft. I love it, love it, love it. I want one of those beds. And one last thing -- they have awesome hours. You can go in there right before they close, have a nice treatment, have a bite to eat after (or before), and lull yourself to sleep for the night. . .ahhhhh. None of this spa treatment in the middle of the day crap. Unless that's what you want - cause they have that too! read more

I had a wonderful experience at the Evo Spa. I gave myself a birthday present and had both a massage and facial. I can truly say that it was a very calm and nurturing experience. I especially loved my facial. Sarah did a very good job and explained what some of the products could do for me if I asked. I think she felt my vibe that I really wanted to relax and not chat. Nicole did the massage. From head to toes she did a very nice job. The back pain in gone! A very wonderful treat, but pricey ($110 for one hour facial). My fav place in this area of Marin to get massages. They have a wonderful chill waiting area, fun little shop in front to tempt you with clothing, jewelry, and scented stuff. They have a changing room and shower so you can change and get fresh, put on the robe and slippers- it's really nice. You then go to this serenity lounge where they have tea, fruit-infused water, nuts and fruit, books, and total peace and quiet. Massage therapists are great- I always leave with my body feeling pampered and relaxed. It's my go-to spot for local massages. read more

Evo Spa is one of the nicest spas in Marin. The owner Gail Ann's years of travel have greatly influenced her aesthetics and her appreciation for wellness. The most wonderful treatment at Evo is Kaya Kalpa...a 2 1/2 hour 'body ritual" that involves rubbing a paste of powdered gemstones on the skin. Could it get more decadent?! I love Evo but there's a couple downsides...one is the location. It's in a strip mall in Strawberry. Once inside you are transported elsewhere, but in general, I avoid strip malls like the plague. Also, it's pricey...but most spas are...so this is to be expected. The eminence products they carry are my favorite skin care line. Definitely a great choice for a conscious eco-friendly spa. read more

Evo Spa is an amazing place. When you walk past the retail store area, it seems like you've entered another world. The inside waiting area is very calming, and the staff is very friendly. I received a gift card and called to make an appointment for a deep tissue massage. I asked the staff person for a recommendation and she recommended Danika so I agreed. Danika was great; my body felt much better after my massage. The massage prices here are higher than my usual massage therapist, but it was a great massage. I found Evo on SpaFinder after receiving a giftcard - and I'm so glad I did! I had the best massage of my life and will absolutely be going back for another session with Joy. The spa was complete with everything I would need/expect - from heated tables to a shower stocked with soap, clean towels, and even a hair dryer. I had a really great experience. My only warning would be to make sure and arrive EARLY. I had a bit of a miscommunication when scheduling, I said I could be at Evo by 6pm and was scheduled for that time. I didn't realize my time would start at 6pm - I wish I had been told if I could be there by 6 I should schedule my apt for 10 min after. Not a huge deal, but it just meant the beginning of the session/getting into the room/undressed/etc felt rushed. I agree with the other reviewers that the boutique is really great! I picked up a couple of pieces and will definitely be back to shop. read more

The interior is very very nice and I'm not sure why a previous reviewer said there was no interior waiting area.... there is, with a waterfall wall and some tea/water/etc. The only reason I can't give it a full five stars is that it seemed a bit pricey for the quality of the massage... seems like a lot of contractors that come and go, and the four massages I received here were all good, but inconsistent. This is convenient to where I work, though, so I'm going to keep going back... just wished they had a tighter reign on their staff. read more

I live nearby and have purchased from the boutique several times in several months. I am now ashamed and appalled I've given this place my dollars. Nearly $500 since December. Holiday gifts: Wanda, brunette manager, could not be more poorly suited to a customer facing job. She is rude, insensitive, interruptive and lacks common"do the right thing" decency. After a pair of PJs I bought for a Xmas gift needed to be exchanged due to wrong size (no, I couldn't get my $ back, exchange was required)- we traded in for 2 pair of thick fuzzy socks in exchange. This was early January. By early Feb, one pair started to disintegrate. Literally 3-4 holes. So yesterday I took this pair in for an exchange. NOT refund request, no $ back- I knew the shop's rigid policy. All I wanted was something else. I'd pay the difference but wanted my mere $18 value in credit toward something. Because this product fell apart. Waiting in line, I heard two women communicating they'd purchased jewelry from Evo Spa, that had also fallen apart. Wanda, manager on duty refused to help. She had the audacity to tell me I should reach out to the vendor if I had an issue with quality of socks. Huh?!? I didn't purchase from the vendor. I purchased from Evo Spa, the merchant. Evo can take it up with their vendor. It's simple retail vs. wholesale transaction principles. I have observed Wanda's rudeness before. It's almost comical yet moreso, maddening, how little she Values or strives to retain customers. She said she "is handcuffed by the owner's policies". I asked her why she didn't want to do the right thing by a customer? ... Wanda said they're a small independent store and can't afford a $18 sock exchange. Oh, hmmmm. Ok. So instead this small store can afford to lose customers, including the negative WOM reviews that will follow based on this inflexibility. So be it. Evo has lost much more than one sock exchange. Shame on you. You have no idea how to compete in this tough retail climate where retaining repeat customers with integrity is everything. read more

Years ago I had a sensitive skin facial and Evo and liked it. Somehow, I forgot about Evo and have been going to other spas. Recently I started looking for a new person for facials and I found her last night at Evo. Lizzy is fantastic! Professional, knowledgeable about sensitive skin and very sweet. She also does the most gentle extractions ever. She was so gentle at first I was thinking - how can this technique work?! But it does! Lizzy also has the magic touch - she ranges for gentle to firm and uses the right pressure in just the right spots. I added on the foot and scalp treatment, both of which were lovely. At the end I was in such a relaxed state I wasn't sure if I was awake or dreaming. read more
