What is going on with Eve's Zeps??? I've shut up over the last year or so about things but today I ordered a large cheesesteak Zep at 3:00-it had the cheese laying on top of the meat, not mixed in with the meat--ick. $18+ and it's not made right? Cheesesteak 101 is mix the meat and cheese. I called them and they told me to bring it back in and they'd remake it. Because I didn't go shopping for three hours, call in the order, go pick it up, come home, unload the shopping, put the shopping away, get the food out, finally sit down and find out its not made right??? No. Not cool. I get to "make dinner" now. Deconstruct, reheat and eat. Super. What do I want them to do? I dont know. Give a crap? The "manager" just happened answer the phone every time, from order to pick up, to problem. Maybe she should have been checking the orders for quality control instead of ringing them up? It's not the first screw up lately. I've been going to Eve's for 50 years. It's not rocket science, put the sandwich together properly! read more

Eve's Lunch is a traditional Norristown Zep joint that has been turning out "Zeppelins" since around 1938. (You know - dirigibles/blimps!) What is a Zep, you ask? It is the Norristown version of a hoagie, made with a locally baked chewy fat roll stuffed with deli meats or salads, and garnished with thick sliced tomato and onion, and finished with oregano, olive oil and optional hot pepper hash and/or sweet pepper. No lettuce. Today was my first. A delicious tuna Zep loaded to overflow with excellent tuna salad and all the other ingredients listed above. The roll was a standout; a perfect texture with mildly crunchy hide. First bite told the tale. I loved the taste and chew as well as the overall experience. The medium sandwich (half a roll) was a challenge to devour. With drink, about $12. Reasonable in today's world. Maybe not gourmand, but unique enough to qualify as first rate foodie. Eve's is nothing fancy - a utilitarian lunchroom full of chip racks and cold drink cold display cases. The service is in the rear where friendlies take and make your order. Eve's Zeps are by far, the best I've had. No complaints at all about them. Delicious! The only issue I have whenever I go in there is that the girls behind the counter have NO customer service skills at all. Only one older woman there knows how to treat customers. The younger girls, like far too man their ages, have a lot to learn. Your staff is a very important part of your business and the owner or manager there should be paying attention to how their staff relates to their customers. Sad to see a place with the best Zeps around, not care enough to make sure their staff treats their customers better. Seems like good, old fashioned friendly customer service is lost on many places today, including Eve's. read more

In the Philadelphia area (including the south Jersey suburbs of Philadelphia), they call them "hoagies," around Massachusetts, they are "grinders," etc.. We can also look.at Louisiana and their sandwich that can be compared to it, the po' boy. Well, Norristown, Pennsylvania has their own sandwich, which they call a "zep" (I guess short for zeppelin). It is basically a sub (or hoagie, grinder, etc.) but without the lettuce and they slice the tomato and onion very thick. Eve's Lunch is an iconic spot for a zep and has been a long standing business (they started back in 1965) in Norristown for a very long time. Its current location is 318 E. Johnson Highway (someone told me that they moved a few times). It is a nondescript looking place in an equally nondescript strip mall. The sign on the outside looks like it could use a repainting. The inside is simple, looking just like it is, a simple sandwich shop that feeds a lot of hungry people. Honestly, it was not my cup of tea. I do not like tomatoes and I just couldn't help but miss the lettuce on what I call a sub. I decided that I should give it four stars because I was trying to compare it to a sub, which, while close, it is not intended to be. This is a hugely popular business in the Norristown, Pennsylvania area and whenever you are in a particular area you should try what the area is for. In Philadelphia, I want a cheesesteak, in Maine, I want lobster, so I guess when business brought me to Norristown, I had to try a zep. Long time customer. I go to Eve's because they are the best for Zeps. But today I ordered a cheesecake w/ fried onions and mushrooms. Instead I received a sandwich with fried onions and MUSTARD Part of the problem is your ordering through a plexiglass window. I think the food preparer miss heard what I said. I also understand that mustard and mushrooms can sound alike. I would say in the future the preparer should read it back so there less chance of a mistake. Although I've always heard about Zeps, I never tried one. They are distinctly different from a hoagie in that they have just one type of meat, provolone cheese, tomato, onion, oil, and oregano. I tried this Norristown tradition - the Eve's Zep and it did NOT disappoint. The roll and ingredients - Spot on! Also ordered the homemade peppers on the side. Proudly displayed in the window is a 'The best of Montco 2019 Best Zep's' sign. I have had good Zep experiences, and apparently Eve's are the best, so I ordered one. The large zep was $14.50, you know I am not a fan of that. I will give Eve major props. She had a sign up that due to price increases during COVID there was an additional charge sandwiches (above the $14.50). It's a pandemic, people understand you have to pass the increase on to the consumer, supermarkets do it. The large zep was very good. It is on a very good but very bready roll. Sneaky good amount of good meat. I prefer the meat chopped but it was good. I would have liked a little bit more cheese. The zep flavor overpowered everything but that is what I guess it is supposed to do. read more

Discovered this one day while looking for a hoagie or a burger for lunch. It is a local town lunch place that is simply delicious. Portion sizes are huge for the price. Hoagies are called "zeps". My personal go to favorite is the tuna Zep with spicy peppers. Runner up- chicken cheesesteak. read more

This is really good old school sandwich shop. Has moved a few times over the last 80 years but... who doesn't?? They make Zeps. They make a really good one. But the standard is still Lou's and it good but not that good. I'd definitely go again. Super nice staff and a wonderful sandwich. read more

Got the chance to try out the medium Eves Zep and was not disappointed. As someone who loves onions and tomatoes, I had a hunch I would already like their zeps. The thick cut onions and tomatoes add flavor and moisture to the sandwich so that you don't even realize there's no mayo or sauce in their sandwiches! They do add some oil for flavor and additional moisture. Workers are quick and food is decently priced. Only downside is that it's cash only but they do have an ATM inside if you need to use it. read more

Found myself in the area recently. using the Yelp app, I realized that I happened to be only a mile from Eve's at the time. A friend has often talked them up to me as a great sandwich place, so I went for it. Of course, being from Delco, I haven't had many Zeps in my life. I have had one trip to Lou's in my life, which I enjoyed. So I know what a Zep tastes like. I am not unfamiliar. Overall, I liked the friendliness of the staff who treated us well. I am more of a fan of the ambiance at Lou's because I like that old counter look, but it was nice to see a clean open space like Eve's has. The important part... these Zeps are tremendous. Loved the roll, perfect amount of meat and cheese, and I don't often eat tomatoes but these were so fresh that I left them on there. Excellent sandwich all around. I loved the fries as I am a big fan of thick steak fries. The wife highly enjoyed her cheeseburger and onion rings. I do wish they had a few more things on their menu. Lou's seems to offer more in general. But that can be a good thing or a bad thing. No question Eve's is of high quality, and is as fine a purveyor of Zeps as there is out there. read more

I have only been to Eve's once, but I thought it was quite good! The zep was great and I loved the hot pepper relish as a perfect add on. I got the 12 inch long roll size and it was huge and a bit unwieldy to eat. I think I'll try the smaller size on a round roll next time. The fries were also great! Crispy and hot. There food is always good. Just tell them how you want it and they make it. The rolls are fresh and soft. Tomatoes and onions are good. Fries are crispy and hot and the chicken fingers are good too. Other then a zep my favorite is a steak zep or cheeseburger zep No oregano! read more

A three star review and even a four star review are not shocking for this place, but I have to give them five stars. I truly think this is my favorite tuna sandwich... I've had better tuna and I've had better sandwiches, but the way they prepare their zeps is special. Eve's Lunch only sell Zeps, which is a pretty large roll with no lettuce. The slices of tomato and onion are really thick. More like they slice the onion and put the entire onion patty on your sandwich. With their special seasoning sprinkle added, it just doesn't get better to me. I've eaten the tuna at almost every restaurant that has it and Eve's is at the top or possibly even the top. I think it's the roll that puts this over the top, because everything else is just so basic. This place is cash only. I've tried the cheesesteaks and I didn't think it was very good. Too much roll for me. Probably not even in the top 20 for cheesesteaks in my opinion. The other zeps are great too. I was so nervous the first time I ate the sandwich, because I love lettuce, but it really wasn't missing. The onion added the crunch I was looking for. read more
