Not much to fault here. Booked a spa afternoon for myself and a coworker. We were treated like royalty. All the services I received were great, but I enjoyed the facial the most. I was concerned about how private the spa would be considering it's in the mall, but it was very serene and modern. Everything you'd expect from a high end spa, heated massage beds, hot towels, plush robes, etc. Only negative was we weren't told to bring our own flipflops but they found us ones to use, but it was a minor hiccup. I have extreme buyers remorse after going to EC at WEM. I went for an all over color to correct and make my hair one color and to cover the grown out grays as well as a simple cut to get rid of dead ends. I chose a dark brown, closest to my natural color and a easy shoulder length layer cut, no bangs or anything. I was sold sold sold on different things because my hair was so bad. She kept telling me that it was dry weather and I needed to not be afraid to use product, and the cost may be a bit more as my hair was porous and would take extra dye and extra treatment. When the stylist was done she had removed less than 2 inches of hair and my color was RED!!! and even worse, light where the grey needed coverage. I was so disappointed and had huge sticker shock at the almost $500 bill. (It was more actually because I was also talked into purchasing product). I have done a better job in my own bathroom with box dye and a pair of scissors. I will never return and will be sure to let others know the same read more

Happy Hour at Eveline Charles was lots of fun! The event sold out quickly and you couldn't beat the deal as it was $50 for 2 mini services (you could chose from pedi, mani, massage, haircut, facial, and waxing), wine, appies, and discounts on products. I booked a facial and pedi and the 4 of us arrived a few minutes before our 5:45 appointments. I wasn't sure if I would see my friends again until I was done. I was brought to the waiting area for my massage. There's a washroom in this area along with lockers. The waiting area was lovely with a large chandelier, and there's cups with water. I waited longer than all the others as the room wasn't ready. The aesthetician who gave me the massage was also going to do the pedi. I was asked if I'd like a robe but declined so I was offered a cover up. The facial was nice but it was too short. I think it was about 20-25 minutes but it was a mini service and did leave my face feeling refreshed. Next we went to the chairs for a pedicure. I think the aesthetician felt a little pressed for time as she asked another girl when her next appointment was. But once she found our there was lots of time, she provided a lovely experience. The pedicure was about 40 minutes. The middle of the area was seating while I enjoyed a drink and food while my friends were getting a haircut, pedicure, and massage. We all finished about 10 minutes within each other. Then we enjoyed shopping for products and getting them for a good price. Overall, we had fun and the service was good even though a little rushed. But for the price and experience, we'd definitely be back for another event like this! Be on the look out as they say there will be more Happy Hour, cheers :) read more

I have been seeing Natasha for a few years now. I think she is the most amazing person and hair stylist. When I went for my appointment today everything went good as usual. I have very very thin hair so Natasha is good to let me style to top of my head to minimize my scalp showing. But today at the end of my appointment I was in price shock. I went to pay and received a bill for $330!!!!!!!!. the most I have ever paid for my hair was $275. and that appointment included lightning my black hair. Today's appointment was not even 2 hours long root touch up and the top half of my head highlighted. All my hair was already light (minus my roots) and a trim. I've been going to EC since it was called Bianco Nero (about 15 years)They had my loyalty and I had given many recommendations to go there. But my last 3 experiences have been aweful. I had my hair coloured and had it not been for my noticing it was A LOT of dye in the bowl, I would have had an all over aubergine colour rather than the highlights I requested. Once the highlights were done, no one could see them, not the staff, not me, not my friends. Did they offer to make it right? No. I was treated like a client trying to get a free-be when I asked for a re-do. I was mortiied and embarrassed. I tried looking for a customer service contact and was given a complete run around. My 3 calls to corperate HQ where never returned. I went back to a senior stylist who had, in the past, done a great job. I ask for exactly the same thing; a touselled bob. It was neither touselled nor was it a good bob, it was heavy and unevenly cut. I asked for a re-cut seconds after the job was 'done.' I asked for the same, a tousel bob from another stylist and, while this new senior stlyist cut much more hair off, and the cut was okay, it wasn't touseled, it was straight as a pin. If I'm going to pay $90+ for a hair cut and come back to the salon for 15 years, they should treat me with respect, and give me a good cut. It's not a difficult hairstyle request and I am not a difficult customer. I've never complained about the product pushing or the cosmetic/medical proceedure push. EC Salon has a good brand name, but is now resting on it's laurels. I'm looking for another salon. read more

I have extremely long hair, hair that touches my mid thighs. Being Asian my hair is super thick, straight and heavy so I'm in need of a good hair cut. I asked for an experienced hairdresser but all were busy at the day and time I needed, so they had me take a stylist that is a step or two down so I would only have pay $70 for the cut. I came in early and the receptionist gets you to put on a robe for the hair cut. The waiting room is in the middle of the salon so you can see everyone. I'm not sure how this makes me feel. Finally my hairdresser comes to meet with me asks me what I wanted done to which I told him I wanted something different with some style and added texture. He assured me he knew exactly what hairstyle he was going to give me. It was refreshing to have the stylist wash my hair because usually they have an assistant to that job. The wash was really awesome I mean a nice head massage is where its at. As soon as the haircut started it ended. It seemed as though he was to scared to cut my hair? He basically gave me a trim. He took longer to straighten my hair that is already straight naturally. I was so disappointed, i gave this stylist power to be creative and do what he would like to my long virgin hair but unfortunately he did not take advantage of this situation. To make myself feel better my thoughts were..."it could have been worse, he could have butchered my hair." With all that's been said, $70 for a trim is really not worth it. For a pretentious salon who seemingly has confidence in their stylists really needs to find actual confident stylist. My upper back and neck muscles had been bothering me for a few days, so after a couple hours of shopping around WEM, I decided to see if I could get a massage at one of the spas in the mall. I walked into EvelineCharles and I was surprised that they were able to fit me in with a RMT right away for a 30 min tension massage. I was brought through some glass doors (felt very exclusive!) and was handled a fluffy robe and some flippy flops to change into. The waiting lounge was decked out with leather couches, dark paneled wallpaper and a glittering chandelier. I sipped on some water and leafed through a magazine before Connie came to bring me to my room. The massage was AH-MAZING! Connie worked all the knots out of my tense muscles with the perfect amount of pressure. I was completely relaxed and didn't realize how quickly 30 mins can go! I was handled a refreshing glass of water as I wandered back to the change room where I had the opportunity to take a quick shower and touch up my hair and make up. Even though the spa is situated inside the salon, I didn't even notice. You couldn't hear people chatting away or hair dryers blasting - they created the perfect relaxing atmosphere! I wish I had looked at my Yelp check in when I paid because there was a check in offer for 15% off any service! Guess I'll save it for next time, which there will be :) read more

I really needed a hair cut. My hair was so long, since I hadn't had it cut in almost a year! So when I was walking past the EvelineCharles at West Edmonton Mall, I slowed down. I looked inside and thought that this place was too fancy and upscale for me. It looked very heaven-like, so bright, so white, and everyone seemed to be beautiful. I kept walking, but something pulled me back. and I decided it couldn't hurt just to ask for their prices. The nice girls at the front told me it cost between $35-$80 for a cut, depending on the stylist's level of experience. I thought this wasn't bad and was pretty much the same as most comparable salons, except not all salons go up as high as $80. I wanted to get my hair cut then and there, so they got me in within an hour. I chose a level three girl that cost me about $50. I changed into a black robe-like shirt, and waiting in the lounge area on a very comfortable leather couch. There was coffee, tea, and water with fresh lime that tasted clean and delicious. My stylist greeted me with a handshake and walked me over to wash my hair. She asked me what kind of cut I wanted, and I sort of left it up to her. I told her I wanted something edgy, and she said she loved that word. After she washed my hair, she put on this conditioner and then covered my head in a very warm towel and left me there for a little while. It was extremely relaxing, and I almost fell asleep. I usually hate getting my hair cut. I think it's actually some sort of fear, but this was really a good experience. The stylist, Trina, was awesome. She was so funny, and we were laughing the whole time. She also did a great job on my hair. She gave me a very stylish bob--I've never had my hair so short, but I love it and have had tons of compliments. I will definitely be back to EvelineCharles. It is a really nice place to get your hair done, but it's the stylist that will be bringing me back. This place also has a makeup area, tons of styling products, and a very large and beautiful spa upstairs. If you want to get pampered, get your makeup done, or get a stylish new hairdo, this is definitely a great place to go. read more

I am so impressed with the brow waxing I have been getting done here, I knew I had to write a review. I started seeing Jennifer in April 2013, and will never see or trust anyone else again. I have been getting my brows waxed randomly (never regularly) and was never able to find someone who waxed them to my liking, until I stumbled upon Jennifer at the WEM location. She somehow transformed them for me. She is very nice, easy to talk to, and simply the best I could ever ask for. When I went to the west end location I was impressed with how professional the salon looked. My hair stylist was Loraine, and as a seasoned employee her hair cut was $85. I was fine with this because I needed someone who knew what they were doing. I also got a rehab cocktail as my hair has extensive previous damage from bleaching. Loraine was great at answering any questions I had about restoring my hairs luster. I had told her I wasn't straightening my hair because there was one section that was absolutely fried and I could smell it burning when I was using a straightener. At the end of my appointment she said I know you're not using a straighter but because you just got your hair done I'm going to give it a 'manicure'. I was fine with this as she's the professional and assumed she would know what my hair can handle. Left there very happy with my hair. The next day (Friday) that one section of hair was back to crinkled straw. I took pictures and called in, only to be told a manager was only in on Tues/Thurs. I was unable to call back on Tuesday but Thursday being my day off I went into the location. I told the receptionist I wanted to speak to the manager because I 'sort of had a complaint'. She asked what the situation was and I told her because I figured she needed a quick run down of the problem. When I told her, her immediate response in a very condescending and snarky tone was 'why did you let her straighten your hair then?' I replied because I thought it would be fine seeing as I hadn't used one in over 4 weeks. She had a line up so she asked if she could serve them before continuing on with me, I said of course and stood off to the side. I saw her go in the side room for a moment so I thought she was telling a manager there was a client that wanted to speak to them. Nope. She then came back and asked me to explain it to her again because she 'didn't see what the problem was'. I explained it to her again and had photo proof of the damage. She asked if I was accusing them of damaging my hair, I said no it was already damaged. She then said if it was already damaged and my hair stylist was great then what's the problem. I am ashamed to say but I replied with 'I didn't pay $130 to have my hair look like this the next day'. She commented how it didn't look like that now, I said because I've used a repairing mask every day. Again she asked what the problem was. Again I said I didn't pay $130 for it to look the same a week later. By this point I was so frustrated and asked when the manager would get back to me, she took my info and told me Loraine would get back to me. I reiterated that no I wanted to talk to a manager and when would one get back to me. She said as soon as ones available, at the time of writing this it's been two hours with nothing. If I could rate just my stylist I would give her 4 stars and the company 1, but unfortunately I can't do that. I have also posted pictures of my damaged hair. *UPDATE* Rebecca from the main office got back to me same day and resolved it perfectly. She was very apologetic and really recovered my outlook on Eveline Charles. read more

I had a pedicure and quite enjoyed it. Nice one hour spent on my feet (and a bit on the calves). Not sure if $85 is a good price or too much for a pedi, but for the end results I think a bit pricey, wouldn't go as often as every month. Perhaps it was just my experience and it was a few years ago but I have to share it. I had gone for a cut and colour for my then waist length hair. When the stylist washed my hair he completely drenched my back. Fortunately, I had been shopping for clothes just before my appointment and had some dry clothes to change into. The dye had a super nauseating stench that I had never (and have still never) smelled in my entire life. The colour job was ok as I had only wanted to darken my hair, and the cut was not that great, and was uneven on the sides. Instead of returning to get my hair fixed there again, I chose to cut my losses and go elsewhere where they made the cut look even on both sides. Requested a 'senior' stylist since I wanted a precision cut and was referred to someone (who shall remain nameless since this review is less about the stylist and more about how this business sells) that was a level 7 which, the receptionist advised, was a senior stylist. Woah! probably the worst haircut I have ever had; certainly, there was nothing "precision" about it. Very disappointed with the quality of service and over all experience my friend left with here. She booked an appointment with a stylist to obtain low lights as she already has very blonde hair but just wanted something easier to maintain. The stylist recommended a shadow root to her hair and was left with a patchy job that looked like she had just painted brown half way down her head and left the rest platinum blonde. Then it seemed like the stylist tried to style her hair in a specific way so she wouldn't notice the areas she messed up in and even claimed " oh if some pieces look weird it's just because your scalp isn't even in the back " ?!?! My friend was left with extremely choppy work done in the back and left side of her head. She then called them back the next day and they told her to come in and did a consult and the stylist mentioned she has had a previous problem with shadow roots? maybe don't tell someone never mind RECOMMEND you can do a shadow root if you've already gotten a complaint about how bad of a job you did previously? Anyways she went on about how she could totally fix it and never once mentioned a set price. Fast forward to after the appointment of FIXING the mistake the stylist herself made, she charged my friend $150 for her products and service time. In total she paid 340$ for an amateur stylist to talk my friend out of getting low lights, claim she knows how to do a shadow root and strongly recommend it ( even though she has had previous complaint about this service on another client) then try and shake her for more money by claiming the amount of products she used in a 3 hour service to FIX!!!!!! HER !!!!! MISTAKE !!! was an additional $140?!? Shady run business, the receptionist spoke about them being commission run based so it explains why the stylist never quoted any prices what so ever ( which screams S H A D Y ) to me. She charged 60$ for just slightly trimming any split ends off her hair which is outrageous. So upsetting that for her first time in a salon she was treated this poorly and scammed for hundreds of dollars for a simple treatment that never should've cost more than 200$ to begin with. Will never go back please spend your money else where!! I spend hundreds of dollars on my hair in very high end salons and I've never been treated this way and they always offer COMPLIMENTARY services within the first few days to any minor mistakes ( roots being too dark or maybe too light ). Eveline Charles is basically is a 'Supercuts' veiled in decor that gives you the impression that it is a high end New York Salon such as Warren Tricomi or Sally Hershberger. The stylists are immature in technique and are not avant garde. Eveline Charles is smart in that the company has promoted itself as a leader in Salons by having many salons and creating their own school; however, the problem with this is you get stylists with a very controlled delivery...everything about this salon chain is about selling their 'bed head' knock off products and the sales pressure technique the stylist utilizes to sell you their products is to bully the customer by telling them their hair is "dry, needs hydration, will fall out if you don't use these products". I was not impressed with City Centre Mall, Erin did my hair and claimed she was a Senior Stylist. I paid nearly $300 for a cut and foils. This was the most costly cut and colour that I have ever had and the "senior" title that EvelineCharles gives a stylist was a joke. Erin is about 23 years old and new to the business, yet she is considered a "senior" As mentioned above, EvelineCharles is very good with marketing techniques: they have managed to make people believe that they are the best by their decor and the sales delivery. But what you really get with this salon is a Fererri exterior with a Yugo-Ford Focus interior: the salon looks nice but the stylists are immature, and really trained to be a sell, sell, sell product guerilla for Eveline charles. read more

TERRIBLE! There should be a no stars option! What started out as a nice gift from my husband as an early Christmas present, turned into a terrible experience... a nightmare! My husband signed me up for the all inclusive $300.00 package. This package supposedly consists of: 60 Minute Massage Pedicure Facial When I showed up for my appointment to start my RELAXING spa day; I was then upcharged for numerous add ons to the original service that I found out about at the end when the services had already been performed. At no point was it expressed to me of how much it would be for the additional services. I was under the impression it was covered in the original cost, since this was a surprise and should have been addressed/clarified before starting any service! I was up charged on the pedicure and the facial. To the tune of $180.00 extra. This was tacked onto my already $300.00 package. To most that may not seem like a lot of money, but for me; it is. Especially with the experience I had. My husband had asked for a 90 minute massage with of course the additional cost and I only received 60 Minutes. It was the most 'dreaded' 60 minutes of stop and go, stop and go. During my pedicure, there was another woman wandering throughout the room cleaning up. She had the most awful attitude and it was spread through the whole room. She made it very obvious she was not thrilled about cleaning up after others. Rolling her eyes, huffing and puffing exceptionally loud, negative body language, etc. Throughout the entire day, I constantly had products that were used pushed onto me to try to get me to buy them. Not at a reasonable price either. Then when I said I would think about it, the provider insisted she would put it up at the counter with my name on it, next to my bill. Yup, just what I want to think about while I'm suppose to be relaxing. Lastly, when my husband called back to rectify the situation to give them the opportunity to make it right, the manager was exceptionally rude and firm that they are all professionally trained and insisted they told me all about the costs. Which is the furthest thing from the truth. The worst part is that they believe their employees are doing these things when they are not. It is my understanding that this is an educational institution. Teaching someone to treat their client or anyone for that matter THAT poorly, is what will keep us away. Several months ago, I had a terrible experience with one of my spa services. It was freezing, uncomfortable, and to top it off I had a rude girl at the front desk. She asked how my treatment was, and I told her it was awful and why, she said a manager would be in contact with me. A week later...nothing. My wife had booked a one hour massage session for Saturday, October 29th. The massage was good. However, the "add-on" charges are egregious. Ten dollar charge for Japanese mint oil used during the massage session. Twenty dollars for a little bottle of Japanese mint oil. And then there was the repeated exhortation to book another massage session. To add insult to injury, the men's change room does not have: - lock on the door - lock on the lockers - clear shower door visible to anyone in the hallway outside the change room when the door to the change room is open. I arrived on time for my appointment that took 2 weeks to book and was notified that only one of the salon`s Pro4 facial machines were working. My sister had to forgo her Pro4 and opt for a regular beauty facial (with no discount, credit, or extra services to compensate). So I received a Pro4 facial with the other machine and almost immediately after arriving at home and for almost 2 weeks my skin was scabbed, red, irritated and looking horrible! I do not have historically sensitive or break-out prone skin, so these results were shocking. I had not worn any make up, nor used any harsh products on my skin and had been moisturizing constantly throughout the day with an extremely gentle moisturizer. This amount of downtime is absolutely absurd. After paying nearly $200 for a facial, I expected so much more. I am extremely dissatisfied and frustrated with the service and results I received from such a prestigious and expensive salon. Not one fleck of wax on the bed (dontcha just hate when they glue you to the paper?) and not a trace left on my smooth, happy legs which are highly prone to irritation. I have to admit I'm a tough customer, too - not only do I have thick, dark hair and pale, thin skin, but it grows in spiral patterns on my calves, making for quite the challenge. I've gone to Eveline Charles salons for waxing before and been impressed every time - they cost more but when I can afford them I do find you get what you pay for in quality of experience - but Rowena really took it to the next level. I decided to try another location of Eveline Charles at West Edmonton Mall. Again just a rushed service and not worth it. I got a gift certificate for a pedicure and decided to try it here one last time. Well, again she started late, which is ok but I never even get a quick sorry for starting your service late. She soaked me for about a minute then started with the sales pitch...here we go again pushing products and additional services. She even asked me if I wanted eye pads for an additional $15 dollars! I am getting a pedicure why would I want that? Anyways, she spent little time up shaping, cutting and polishing and more time trying to get me to buy anything and everything Eveline Charles carried. She did the pedicure in about 30 minutes and even I went up to the front, the front desk girl was like "oh you are done already?" I wasn't impressed. I was about the pay and then my aesthetician came to the front and gave me her card and said oh remember to book with me next time. I would definately agree that Eveline Charles is as close to a 'Supercuts' as you could get. It seems like everybody that works there has little experience, even when they have a 'senior' stylist who charges $50-70 a hair cut. My stylist at South Common hinted at a high turnover rate within the company----doesn't sound like a great place to work, either. I got a color done there too and although it looked great when i left, a few days later it started looking dull and like i used a cheap box from the drugstore to do my hair. THAT was disappointing, seeing as i paid close to $200 for my look. the front computer girls were nice enough, but i felt like i was pressured into buying the products they suggested when i left. and quite honestly, my hair has gotten dryer using their shampoo, if thats even possible. the experience all in all was terrible. dont bother trying your luck there. read more

I had my make up and hair done for my wedding at this location. I was extremely disappointed and saddened with my experience. I was the bride and the hair stylist was to curl my hair into waves. She didnt take time to ensure they stayed and before my wedding 3 hours later after it was done the curls has fallen out. It makes me sad looking at mt wedding pictures seeing how my hair didnt look liked i dreamed of. I reported this to the location and got a refund... a refund doesnt make up for a horrible job and mess up of my wedidng hair that i have to remember the rest of my days. The makeup wasnt quality and i re did it myself. The artist made me look like a ghost and chose colors that didnt go with my hair or skin tone... not pleased.. for a high end salon it doesnt live up to its name. read more

Really disappointed with this location. I frequent the south common location but unfortunately my stylist has taken a break over the summer. We took my bf to see Kendra. My bf is growing his hair out and was looking to get something done to it since he finally has some length. I was a little shocked when he came out with hair looking the same with some trimmed up sides. The back is crazy long and thick. He has super coarse hair and no shearing was done. He also bought a 22 dollar gel that does nothing once it dries. It's a shame. I'm usually so fond of this salon regardless of the location or stylist. read more
