After a major renovation of our first floor which included a kitchen, two living rooms, and a dining room we needed to furnish the space. We conducted independent research and visited many furniture stores in the area, but with seemingly endless possibilities it was challenging to decide on what would look good in our space. There are certainly furniture stores with some peculiar offerings and we struggled a bit envisioning how some pieces would match our design. However, when we visited Ethan Allen we immediately knew we liked the classic American style, and their offer of free design services made it a no-brainer to work with them. In our search for a designer, we consulted online reviews and consistently read high praise for Nazee Fakharifar. We also checked her Houzz site for more pictures and really liked her style. We reached out to Nazee and she was very fast in setting up an initial consultation with us. She came to our house to take pictures and measurements, and was able to create a design for four rooms very quickly- I forget how quickly, but I believe it was within a week. Nazee visited us on one Saturday, and by the next, we were at Ethan Allen reviewing the designs and considering the furniture and fabrics she had selected. As people who like to understand all options before making decisions, we returned to the showroom a few times. But each visit was productive and we were able to finalize the designs quickly. The best thing about working with Nazee is her extensive knowledge of Ethan Allen's catalog, her ability to understand her clients' needs, and how she is able to connect these to create the perfect design. As mentioned, my wife and I are both quite picky so there would be times where we really liked what Nazee picked for fabric, but since EA has hundreds of fabrics we wanted to see more. We would spend an hour looking at more fabric but ultimately came to the conclusion Nazee had picked our favorite at the very beginning. We also like how Nazee does not hold back from giving you her opinion about what would look good or bad. She isn't going to let you choose something that will look bad just to get a sale. She will be honest and tell you if something will work for your space or not. This of course is highly valuable as you are relying on her expertise to create the perfect design. Another aspect we greatly appreciated was Nazee's communication skills, her promptness in arranging meetings, and the overall collaboration of working with her. If we called or texted her she would respond back right away with an answer, or to let us know she was with another client and would get back to us as soon as possible. There was never a text or a call that she left unanswered. We only ran into a couple issues with our project but Nazee and her manager, Robert, were able to resolve those for us quickly. One problem was with the fabric we chose for two chairs, which was suddenly out of stock. Robert reached out to the production facility to check the available fabric yardage, fortunately finding enough to fulfill our order. Later, we discovered that the rug for our dining room had a minor defect and was a bit too large for our space. Robert once again assisted us in obtaining a smaller replacement at no additional cost, exemplifying 5-star customer service. Our experience working with Nazee and the Ethan Allen team was overwhelmingly positive, from the initial consultation to the design process, purchase, delivery, and follow-up support. I came to this Ethan Allen to look around only as I do my purchasing at the Ethan Allen in Sterling. They had a decent selection but the designers were less than helpful. It seemed like everyone who walked in and wanted something they first brought you to a computer to help you look at their selection on the Ethan Allen website. They tried pulling this on me and I said I had a computer at home to look at the Ethan Allen website; I came in to touch, see, and sit on actual pieces of furniture that I was interested in. I wouldn't cross this off your list but I have really experienced better Ethan Allens. Take the drive 15 minutes up the road and go to the Sterling store as the designers are very helpful, appreciative of your business, and won't make you sit in front of a computer to pick out furniture. read more

A horrendous experience. Stay away and drive to the Arlington store if you need an Ethan Allen showroom. My Ethan Allen designer from the Arlington store, sent me to look at a sofa the Clarendon location didn't have in store. Upon walking in, the receptionist said a designer would come around to help me. Jennifer and Teisha came over and both were lovely and I told them I was just around to look at the Audrey sofa. The offered the pull fabrics and I told them I might take them up on the offer. After walking the store, looking at "my sofa" and gathering ideas, I went to look at some fabrics. Teisha approached me and offered help and as she was looking for fabrics with me and she told Jennifer my ideas. Well, a very unpleasant and unprofessional woman, said "The Arlington Client?" "I don't think you should be taking time pulling fabrics for them". Direct quote. I told Jennifer, that I had heard the comment and she insisted they were there to help me and started trying to salvage the situation. Well, that woman turned out to be Liz Loftus (Hoftus maybe) the Design Manager and after FIVE whole minutes of Jennifer and Teisha helping she had the audacity to come and tell the designers they needed to work on other projects and she "would continue to help me". When Jennifer and Teisha left, Liz said to me "anything else you need?". As in, "Are we done here?". I told her I was fine on my own and I left the store because I felt rushed and unwanted. This is a corporate business and not a franchise. The business I am bringing to the Arlington store benefits Ethan Allen as a whole. This woman has no business being the leader of any department and I will be contacting the corporate office about this incident. read more

This store provided the worst customer service I have ever experienced furniture shopping. No one knowledgeable ever answers the phone. I have repeatedly asked for a store manager only to be told that there is no one that can make any decision in the store. My product was not delivered on time but worse still, there was no communication or follow-up despite repeated outreach from me. When the product was delivered it had a plastic base that was different from what we saw in the store. Unbelievable. Now I have to spend more time trying to get this fixed. Will never shop here again and discourage others from doing so. read more

This is a good place to consider when in the market for some made-to-order upscale furniture. They have a huge selection of stuff that can be customized with an endless options of fabric! Talk about making it difficult for shoppers to decide :) Staff here is very friendly and patient too - which makes the shopping experience even better. After extensive searching, my wife and decided to purchase a leather couch and matching loveseat from Ethan Allen. The decision was based on a variety of factors including quality of piece and customer service. Unfortunately, what we perceived as good customer service turned out to a combination of lies and a hard sell of a faulty product. In this case, I'm referencing the Guardsman "Gold in Home" - 5 year Protection Plan. Once we decided on our purchase and were completing our paperwork, the saleswoman started putting the hard sell on us to purchase the protection plan. This only increased when we revealed we had kids. She assured us that this is what protection plans like this were made for and they would cover pretty much anything include stains, "punctures, cut, teas and rips from a single incident", burns and internal springs, etc. Well, as they say, if its too good to be true, it probably isn't. So we paid our extra $250 to purchase the insurance. Sure enough, our kids were wrestling on the furniture and managed to tear/rip the leather. We pulled out our policy and filed a claim online. Within the hour, without seeing a picture or speaking with us, the claim was rejected. We were told it was normal wear and tear. We tried to appeal and were rejected again. Never once did we get to speak to a person or submit a picture. Turns out that Guardsman is notorious for this and has nearly 1000 complaints with the BBB. Sadly, because of the hard sell we had no time to research this. I then contacted Ethan Allan's District Operation Manager - Crystal O. Price - and described our issue via email. I simply asked for a refund of our $250.00. It was like deja vu. Without speaking with us or asking to see a picture, she rejected our request outright. To add insult to injury, she highlighted the wear and tear clause of the contract. I then responded re-explaining that it was not wear and tear but rather a covered incident. This time she simply ignored me. Well there you have it. Ethan Allen claims to be one of the higher quality furniture stores around. Just be prepared to be met with lies as they sell you a product that they obviously know doesn't work. It seems customer service is there just long enough to get you to sign your check, and then you are on your own. You could argue this is an issue with Guardsman and I don't disagree. They are criminals. But Ethan Allen is pushing this with every sale and has an obligation to stand behind it or not sell it. When confronted with an issue they would rather sacrifice a customer over $250 without even a conversation. Buyer beware. We learned our lesson the hard way. We hope this serves a warning to others. read more

Recently purchased several sofas and accessories from Ethan Allen. Sales was fantastic. We did have to work with service on a small issue. They were great as well. Would definitely purchase from the Dulles store again. Read all the reviews and was somewhat intimidated but still have pieces that are 50 years old and in good shape. Very happy read more

Our designer, Ayla Saygan, at Ethan Allen in Tysons, Va. was terrific. She helped us find and design the perfect Ethan Allen couch for our mid-century modern house. She has exquisite taste in upholstery (in this case, leather), size to fit the space, and type and color of legs to put on the couch for that type of home. She partners with you seamlessly in coming up with a combination that fits your preferences and the home's overall aesthetic. The result is magnificent. Given the size of the financial commitment for this item, she was a delight to work with. We were absolutely comfortable and confident in our purchase. The couch is here now and after a month of looking at it as a stand alone piece and in the context of the room that it's in, and a month of sitting on it for hours at a time, my husband and I agree it is absolutely the most handsome, comfortable sofa and unquestionably one of the best furniture investments we've ever made. Ayla was also very good about keeping us informed about the delivery date along the way, especially since it was a custom made item and would take a couple of months. It enabled us to plan our activities in advance and ensure there were no conflicts on the calendar when it arrived. We will not hesitate to work with her again on future purchases. If you go to this particular Ethan Allen store, I encourage you to insist on working only with Ayla Saygan. read more

Bottom Line: Word to the wise...don't buy a mattress from Ethan Allen! Bought a bed, mattress and end table for almost $5K total. No complaints on the bed or end table, but we were not given opportunity to see, feel or test the mattress. The designer mentioned that EA mattresses were firmer than usual, but as we were in a hurry to get the bed and trusted a name like Ethan Allen, we simply signed. Current beds we have are pretty firm too so we expected the same. First complaint was the lead time. Took 6 weeks for the bed and mattress, then another 3 weeks (total from order 9 weeks) for the table. Then we discovered that the mattress wasn't just firm, it was downright hard. Called to see if it could be replaced and was advised mattresses aren't returnable. They are considered "custom". How can a mattress be "custom"? They have standard sizes and shapes (full, queen, king, etc.). The mattress alone was $1200 so quite costly, but not being given opportunity to test in the store, nor return it when dissatisfied reflects poorly on Ethan Allen. Feel free to buy furniture there, but don't buy mattresses. You will get better prices, larger selection, and better customer service from others. read more

Very disappointed in service here. Bought two sofas and wanted to change the fabric on one of them a few days later. We were told that the fabric had already been cut--really... over Thanksgiving with a 10-12 week delivery time? We offered to pay for the material that had been cut so we could pick something else. Was told we couldn't do that either. Manager also told us that we don't work for Ethan Allen and don't know the rules. Then wanted it shipped to my daughters house in NC instead of MD. My wife and I spent thousands of $$$ on our son's entire Ethan Allen bedroom set (Bed Frame, Headboard, Mattress, Night Table, Book Shelf Cabinet, Closet, and Desk w/ Shelves) from this location. Admittedly, that was several years ago but, considering the reason we bought it in the first place (name recognition) and what we actually got (poor quality), and the fact that I am continually reminded of the bad deal we got every time I look at it, try to fix the hardware (again and again), or see how easily the wood stains by anything put on it (it's painted white), I had to finally share my tale w/ the rest of those who spent a lot for subpar furniture. We certainly were misled by the brand name and gave up going back to the saleroom in trying to address our issues w/ the furniture. read more

I was torn whether or not to write this. I do like their furniture quality very much. However, I went in Dec 2011 to look at dining chairs and I ended up picking chairs and fabric and was given a price. Was told to come back in Jan when they have 10% off on all furniture so I was like great. So, I went there today and the chair was 10% off but the fabric I picked was now conveniently upgraded out of the "free" grade and now had to pay extra $40/chair for the fabric. This was more than the 10% savings I got so I was a little pissed. I still bought the chairs but just wanted to let everyone know - I don't want to say bait and switch but sure feels like it. read more

We should have read the reviews before dealing with this store. In 10/2016, my mother spent over $10K on a couch and two chairs. She had not signed the purchase agreement and decided to change the chairs. When she contacted the store she was told she could not change the order because the store had already placed the chair order with the manufacturer. She was told that they would charge her a $300 plus restocking fee to change the chairs. Terrible business practices. read more

Why didn't I read these reviews before I purchased furniture at the Ethan Allen store! Please believe past reviewers. If any issues arise, Ethan Allen will screw you over. They don't care about repeat customers. They just want the money. I guess they believe a sucker's born every minute, so why worry about good customer service. I hope my review helps another buyer before they decide to purchase furniture from Ethan Allen. I purchased a sofa from E.A. It arrived damaged. The fabric underneath the couch was torn in 2 pieces and one of the feet on the sofa had a gash in it. Now that's all I saw when the delivery guys were at my home. I have not looked over the entire sofa yet. I told the delivery men they should put the sofa back on the truck. They said we're only the delivery men. How I wish I had gone outside to see them tear the plastic off. I never would have allowed that sofa in my house. I WILL never be suckered into accepting another piece of damaged furniture again. I called Ethan Allen and told them I expected to buy furniture that was not damaged. They said we can fix it. I told them I don't want to buy furniture that needs to be fixed. THE MANAGER DID NOT CARE! The first words out of the managers mouth was, "It's in our policy that we have the right to fix it." If you want to do business with scoundrels like this, then shop at Ethan Allen. Only second rate furniture companies do business like this. I really thought I was doing busy with an upscale furniture store. Maybe there was a time when Ethan Allen sold good furniture. Now all they have is good marketing and depend heavily on a reputation from years past. read more

I'm giving the company a three star rating because I like Ethan Allen, but the shopping center that houses this location is not business friendly. I recently went to the store and while i was getting my child a milkshake at a take-out location next store, my car was towed from the parking lot. Through conversations with employees, I learned that the property management company has hired a very aggressive towing company and that even employees had their cars towed from the parking lot. I left my car for less than 10 minutes. The towing company stalks the parking lot and if they see anyone leave -- even for a moment -- they immediately hook up the car and tow it away. Spoke the the management company -- they really didn't seem to care. Go to the store in Sterling. Your car will be a lot safer. read more

I wish that I had gone on my gut instinct and took all of the other bad reviews seriously. I gave the benefit of the doubt and went into the Tyson's store with my husband to purchase our first bedroom set together. We worked with Leah, who came out to our home to help us with other rooms initially. We told her that we needed living room furniture and wanted a set up that allowed us to watch movies together with our dog. Her answer was 4 individual club swivel chairs. That should have been my first red flag. My husband thought I was joking when I proposed that plan. I guess I would sit in one chair, my husband in another and our dog in a 3rd? We decided to just focus on the bedroom and met Leah in the store. We decided on a black wood bedroom set; bed, nightstand and dresser. Since the bed design was so new that they did not have it in the store, we chose it based on wooden samples she showed us. 12 weeks later we were told that the bed and dresser were in and would be delivered. The minute the delivery men dropped the items in, we knew we would be in for a fight with Ethan Allen since they were totally not what we had thought we had purchased. The dresser looked brown and the drawers did not go in all the way, flush with the dresser and there were parts of the dresser which did not have any stain. The bed was a totally different color and had what looked like worm holes all over it. We immediately called Ethan Allen and were told by Leah that this was what we purchased in the store and we looked at the model. She then said she would "send us the copies of what we had signed off on to refresh our memory." We were completely taken aback since we remembered quite clearly that there was no model in the store since it was brand new. We asked to speak with a manager, to which she told us that there is no manager. She said that a rep would come out to the house to look at the merchandise to see what could be done. The rep who came out stated that the dresser was defective and attempted to put pads on the drawers to make them flush. He also stated that the finish that he was going to use to take care of the nicks to the dresser was brown,not black like we ordered. Once he painted the nicks, you could see where he touched it up. I pointed this out and he assured me that it would dry. One week later, it was the same and in fact looked worse. Also, the pads that he put on the drawers to make them flush fell off onto the floor. I emailed Leah again at Ethan Allen and again she told me the same story of what I signed off on in the store. I gave her proof that this was not true including a Pinterest page that SHE created for us with the bed that we ordered (it was not the same as what we had received). I also asked her why we would order a bedroom set in 2 different colors and different textures; ordering a bed in a black weathered texture just does not match a black lacquer dresser). I then asked for a return and for Ethan Allen to pick up the defective merchandise. I also asked to cancel the pending order for the nightstand. She then stated to me that she would forward my concerns to her regional manager and he would determine what to do next. Two weeks later and no call. Once again I asked her what the status was and she stated, "Oh, he thought you wanted to pick something else out?" I reminded her that this was not what I asked for and again asked for a return and to speak with the regional manager. Another week later no call from the regional manager. She responded that he does not "do returns, only customer service." Again I was confused since she told me he would be the one to determine if and how I could return the merchandise. She also told me that she did not have the power to do a return. At this point I reached out to American Express, the card that I had used to purchase the set. I explained the situation along with the documentation to support our claim and they began a dispute. The next day, Leah called me 4 times and emailed me 4 times, asking for me to call her, to come pick out new merchandise, etc. I did not respond and she left another 8 emails and 3 phone calls. I then emailed her that I would not be responding to her any longer and that AMEX would handle the matter from here. She then said she would begin the process to return the items. My husband and I felt completely lied to, since she had stated that she "is not able to do a return." It has been 8 months later and I have recouped all of my money except delivery charge. Amex is currently disputing that on our behalf since we feel that we should not have to pay for merchandise that was defective. This is the first negative review that I put on Yelp but felt compelled to help everyone else out there who is thinking of purchasing from Ethan Allen. Take advice I should have and do not waste your time or money there. Go with Room and Board in DC; they will stand by their products and give you first class customer service. read more

From the sales person, Ayla, to the storage manager and ill mannered receptionist this is my first purchase at Ethan Allen in 15 years and my very last. I ordered a sofa over 4 months ago. Have continually be misinformed of the delivery date and at this moment cannot get a response. I've purchased items at this location on two separate occasions, but will probably not return. My first purchase over a year ago was a custom headboard that was very expensive. My second purchase made this year was a custom sofa, which was also very expensive. Both times, with two different design consultants, neither of them called to follow-up with me after delivery of my furniture. I feel the least could do is pick up the phone or email me to see if I am happy with the furniture or delivery process...or at least try to pretend they want my business in the future. I feel as if once they get your thousands of dollars for furniture, they could care less once it is delivered. Do better Ethan Allen. Ethan Allen spends a ton of money on great TV and magazine advertisements. They offer lovely furniture for sale at reasonable prices. So, what's the problem? The store closes too early during the week. Traffic on Rt 7 West is bumper to bumper every night with at least some measure of working people passing by, needing to buy furniture. I am one of them. Stay open later during the week, Ethan Allen, and advertise your later hours on Rt 7. You might actually sell some of that beautiful furniture to me. But I can't buy it when your doors are closed. read more

I ordered a dining room set and 5 pieces for the living room at the end of September. I have been asking for fabric samples for my selections every since - at least 6 times at this stage (now over a week into November). As I did following past problems, I tried to get help from the store manager. And, just as in the past, she told me she would look into it, agreed to call me back the next day and then faded away, never to be heard from again. It has now been six weeks and I have no fabric samples and no explanation or reassurance that I will ever be getting fabric samples. I am unable to begin selecting drapes and rugs. I experienced similar issues with this store and this manager in the past and should have learned my lesson - which is: ONCE THEY HAVE YOUR DOWN PAYMENT, YOU ARE OF NO VALUE. read more

We are very pleased with the excellent service and attention to detail that we experienced with Maria A. at Ethan Allen in Tysons Corner. I can't say enough about her professionalism, follow through and follow up, as well as her wonderful sense of style. My husband and I picked out the furniture for our new house's living room, sunroom, dining and master bedroom with Maria's help. I had a good sense of the materials and finishes we wanted and Maria came alongside of me to offer advise and her knowledge base of their furniture and fabrics was a real asset to the project. After all was selected, she meticulously reviewed everything with us, made a presentation of it all and worked with us to have the furniture held until the house was completed. She even offered to come supervise set up on the day it was delivered. We could not be more satisfied with our experience with Maria as well as the management of the store and of course the products are high quality purchases to last a lifetime. read more
