Sodi dumplings and crushed cucumber salad

Love coming to eat dumplings here Wednesdays! They are always packed but they are quick to get food out quickly! It's a walk up and order and then it is up to you to find a place to sit.

It's Wednesday, which means you've got dinner plans at et al. for Dumpling Night! ICYMI (um a local James Beard semifinalist, so where ya been?!), et al. is a collective of chefs who cook the most incredible weekly, monthly, and one-time pop-ups out of, another local fave, Foolish Things. From concepts like their weekend Japanese Breakfast, to their super popular Bischix, and plenty more, they cover a variety of cuisines and styles. But when you've got a dumpling-obsessed 7 year old, you get down on the best hand-folded bites in town! You can't go wrong with anything on their rotating menu, but if you see Japanese Crispy Rice Salad, GRAB IT!

We went to the Sufra dinner and it was amazing! The appetizers were delicious and loved the entrees. Dessert seemed so simple but was spectacular. The staff and service was impeccable! They were so friendly. The table dressings were beautiful and it looked lovely with a warm ambiance. My husband doesn't typically like these types of things but he ate everything and enjoyed it which is saying a lot. I purchased the wine pairing and it didn't disappoint. Check this out!!!

Hosted at Foolish Things, Et Al has a dumpling night on Wednesday evenings. I would love to gate-keep this place simply to keep my ability to get dumplings a much easier process, but it's much too delicious to gate-keep A delicious array of offerings. Although this is what I enjoyed recently, I've had nearly the entire menu and highly recommend all offerings. They have alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage options. Foolish Things has both outdoor and indoor seating. Although you do wait in line to order, it's typically a fast moving line and you're greeted with friendliness and excitement when you reach the register. It's a wonderful environment - you might see older women having a ladies night out, families, single young Tulsans enjoying happy hour after work...it's a wide variety of Tulsans that enjoy dumpling night. You can also order a to-go option if you are unable to dine in. Highly recommend!

Wednesday night is Dumpling Night. This visit was way overdue & it was at the right time & an experience took place. We ordered Pork and Nira & Mushroom and Bamboo dumplings. 6 each, hit with the Szechuan peppercorn-oil. The perfect amount of salt from each component was incredible. There was an Udon noodle dish that complimented the dumplings well. As for the beverages, we tried the Saké & it was hard because the selections included wine, cocktails, milk tea & beer. Different nights represent different menus (Butter Bar & Japanese Breakfast are a couple of many) along with pop-up kitchens as well. We were treated very nice from the moment we walked in. We were even treated to a dessert that was custard based (can't remember the name for nothing) due to it being our first time visiting + trying Et Al. & Colin was making sure that we enjoyed everything. The list of other nights + menus being checked-off is a must.

Et Al. is a collective of chefs working to build an equitable service operational model while serving delicious global cuisine. There are currently six concepts: Bischix, Butter Bar, Compaignon, Dumpling Night, Japanese Breakfast, and Pickles at the Barbecue. Et Al. was a semifinalist for Best New Restaurant 2023 by the James Beard Foundation. Et Al. operates from Foolish Things Coffee in downtown Tulsa's Cathedral District, located at the start of historic Route 66. After a long walk along the Tulsa portion of Route 66, I stopped in for Dumpling Night, a weekly Wednesday evening pop-up led by chef Colin Sato featuring Japanese food and beverages. Foolish Things Coffee is a welcoming coffee house featuring clean lines, cool artwork, and a fair amount of natural light. There is a patio area to the side of the shop and front of shop seating. Customer service was exceptional. Despite a continual line, the staff was warm, welcoming, and fielded questions regarding the menu. Food came out at an appropriate pace, especially given the volume. I had the Pork Dumplings, Kitsune Udon, Ginger Sake, and Pot de Cremé. I did not have a bad bite all night! The ginger sake was great. The ginger flavor was very present. The udon had a broth with great umami flavor. The individual components (greens, scallions, shrimp, and noodles) were well prepared. My only notes were to add more shrimp. The dumplings had a nice char on the bottom. While the filling was good, it wasn't as flavorful as I would have liked. I loved the rice vinegar addition to the chili sauce. I am still thinking about the Pot de Cremé. I loved the black salt paired with the maple syrup on top. And the cremé was super luscious. I left Dumpling Night inspired and full. I love the values of Et Al. and wish I was in town long enough to experience the other available concepts. As for Dumpling Night, I would want to try the Sticky Rice and the cold beverages.

Their Japanese Breakfast is mindblowingly awesome. From Chef Collin Sato and his sister Maya Sato designs these amazing illustrated menus. Description of what you get from their site, all of it amazing: "Japanese breakfast is a set menu of 8 dishes: shiozake (half-cured salmon), onsen tamago (hot spring egg), hiyayakko (cold dressed tofu), homemade miso soup, tsukemono (various homemade pickles), kombu no tsukudani (braised seeweed), chrysanthemum ohitashi (dashi dipped greens), and steamed rice, and genmai cha (roasted brown rice tea). Rice, miso soup, and tea are unlimited and are included with the price of the meal." Finally, their cream cup desert was orgasmically delicious - sweet and salty and a true experience. I randomly Googled "Japanese breakfast" when ai was in Tulsa and hit the jackpot! You also have to reserve on the site - https://www.etaltulsa.com/japanese-breakfast - and it's every Sunday, parties of one sell out but 2-8 are more available. Also in the stylish interior building of Foolish Things Coffee on 1001 Main.

One of our absolute favorite places when we were in Tulsa! This is probably the one place that we miss the most since we moved. We would come almost once a week and I think we tried every concept they had at least once! Their entire menu is so well thought out and it's reflected in the food. The staff is fantastic and make you feel like you're at home. The vibes are super relaxed as everyone is just enjoying the yummy food and drinks. Highly recommend that you try all of their concepts and menus at least once!

Add "everything ," which means salsa, cilantro, onions, etc. to get the full flavor. The chunks of meat in the steak tacos are chopped more finely than at some other places, which gets them a higher score. It's easier to eat and not so chewy. The family running the restaurant has always been warm and friendly, and I've been eating here for many years. Be patient as a long line can appear suddenly. But, it was difficult for me to look past someone being extremely rude at the register. The ladies in the kitchen were super nice though! My burrito was mostly beans and lacking flavor for Al pastor meat. At nearly $11 it's tough to say this was a winner. Either way, the building was clean, plenty of seating, but sooo quiet. Definitely not your typical Mexican joint playing music with a joyful atmosphere.
