Every plate was delicious, the portions were generous, and everything came out hot and fresh. The coconut French toast absolutely lived up to the hype! The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, and it's the kind of local place you hope to find when you're traveling. If you're visiting South Lake Tahoe, do yourself a favor and have breakfast or lunch at The Getaway Cafe. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Tahoe!

The Canvas Cafe (or whatever it's called now) was just a block or so down C street and open. The dining room was small, cute, inviting, and warm. It was also a "one man show" today as one guy was working both the kitchen and the dining room (and very well). I especially appreciate a really busy guy who maintained a relatively high service level, with a smile and a generous side of patience. We all ordered sandwiches, including French Dip for Gayle, Smash Burger for Darling Granddaughter, and a grilled Chicken Pesto for me. Everything was delicious, with my only regret being that I should have ordered the impressive side salad that Gayle chose. A small bag of chips really didn't do the sandwich justice. I would have also preferred a beer, but there was no alcohol served today, and my bottomless glass of lemonade was more than just fine. Super sweet, as cinnamon rolls should be, and soft and fluffy. An indulgence!
