    huckleberry rosemary spritz

Stopped here on our way out of Tahoe on vacation and I can't say we were impressed. The place itself is really cute. It has a nice patio area and ample seating. The problems arose when it came to the service and drinks. The two guys working there were very slow. My family came in twice, maybe 30 minutes apart from each other, and both times they were excruciatingly slow. The second time they forgot to get us our food. Stop #1 we ordered two drinks plus a banana bread and probably waited ten minutes or more for them. Got the summer specials (orange cardamom and huckleberry rosemary matcha) and they were bland. Stop #2 we got food as well as another drink. We got the huckleberry rosemary spritz hoping it would be better than its matcha counterpart. It's pretty lightly flavored, which I don't hate, but it's a pretty basic, average drink. Nothing exceptional. We got the carnitas burrito, which was very good. Also got the banana bread, which was moist and delicious. Lastly, we got the yuzu beignet, which I wouldn't even qualify as being a beignet. A beignet should be light and airy fried dough--these were more like donut holes filled with yuzu jelly and covered in powdered sugar. They were $1.50 so, for that price I feel like they were fine. However, on stop #2, they seemed to forget we ever ordered food because we watched the entire line order and get served and our food was nowhere to be found. When we went up to ask them if they were making it they said they'd "check". Not sure what there was to check because all the food was pre-prepped. All they needed to do was heat up a burrito and some banana bread. They also never apologized for forgetting our order. Besides that, the guys working there were nice and pretty helpful. I don't want to be too hard on them because these guys were probably high school to college aged and it looked like they were definitely understaffed considering how busy the place was. The line was consistently to the door. Maybe the owners should hire some more people to help so the service is quicker instead of running the place with as few people as possible. We were also disappointed because at a lot of coffee shops or places that offer matcha they have puréed fruit for their drinks. We were expecting huckleberry purée in our matcha, but it was a rather artificial tasting syrup. It had so little flavor we had to ask for more syrup. For the price of the stuff there, we just were expecting more and we were pretty disappointed. The matcha also was just not very good. Cheap matcha is usually never good. Either buy the ceremonial grade from Japan or don't offer it. I don't mean to be a big complainer, but as someone from Florida coming to California, I expected our experience to be at least marginally better. The coffee and matcha I've had in Florida has been 10x better. Our experience there was just really not worth the hefty price tag that came with it.

latte is great. Pastry is great. Loved the lemon ricotta pastry. Banana bread is moist and not overly sweet. Everything is perfect!

Their breakfast burrito is to die for, and this coming from a San Jose native ! Amazing coffee too. The cafe is cute and tastefully decorated and the service is top notch! Going to grab a few burritos to go before I drive home tomorrow.

Excited to have a new option in Truckee! What i loved most about Cafe Lupine was the seating, both inside and outside. It overlooks the golf course with a barrier of trees and flowers that is surprisingly peaceful. Beautiful furniture too. I thought the employees were friendly and competent, despite what the other reviews said. Docked one star for the coffee and cake. I got a latte and the lemon ricotta cake. Coffee was just ok - but I am quite picky and there are ample incredible coffee choices in the area - tough competition. The cake was so tasty but not quite enough to come back for. I would come back to try their other pastries and food items, and for the ambience to read or work or meet a friend.

Cafe Lupin is a gem of a coffee spot near Truckee--maybe even in Truckee. The baked goods are tempting, especially the Nutella-stuffed croissants, but I went for the lemon ricotta cake, which was absolutely delicious. My iced Americano, topped with a sprinkle of cinnamon, was just as good. The cafe itself is stylish and inviting, with a warm seating area that looks out over a golf course. It's the kind of place you could easily settle into for a while.

This place is SO GOOD!!!! We got the KIMBAP, carnitas and gravy breakfast burrito. All amazing. KIMBAP one has authentic kimchi. Chicken pot pie also 10/10. The ube latte was okay, nothing like the LA ones, I think you can skip on it. Banana bread was 10/10. Super moist and sweet.

Cafe Lupine is just what this corner of town needed! Not only does cafe have the cutest and coziest vibes the coffee (which is roasted in house!) is amazing and the pastries are made daily! I had a mocha and a crème brûlée donut and was trying to resist going back the next day to repeat the order! I mean the brûléed the sugar on top, it was divine! The owners are truckee locals and the kindest people. They have an amazing staff who really cares about what they do! They also just added a beer and wine selection for the weekends as a great edition and I look forward to a glass of wine on their patio watching the golfers! If you are in need of caffeine or a fresh pastry I highly recommend cafe lupine!

Café Lupine is a fantastic new coffee/breakfast hidden gem that just opened up in Truckee. Tucked just behind Fifty-Fifty Brewing and right on the edge of the Ponderosa Golf Club, this cozy café has all the makings of a new local favorite. Our group of 4 stopped in around 7pm to check out their wine, beer, and cheese offerings. Peter (The owner) made us feel so welcomed, and with four beers on tap, a solid selection of bottled wines, and a few ciders, there was something for everyone. The cheese board was a highlight! Multiple delicious varieties which paired perfectly with the beautiful golf course views. We enjoyed it so much that we came back the next morning for breakfast. The pastries were fresh and flavorful, and the breakfast burrito was a delicious way to start the day! If you're in the area around breakfast time or want an under the radar wine/cheese night look so further! Café Lupine is well worth a visit.

Superb coffee! I had the Americano here and it was just what I needed--smooth, rich, and full of flavor without any bitterness. It had that perfect balance of bold and easy to drink. Honestly one of the best Americanos I've had in a while. The coffee shop itself is warm and inviting with a lovely outdoor patio overlooking a green golf course. They offer a selection of pastries and breakfast burritos. Wraps, pies on the menu too. Beer on tap! Very kind and patient barrista serving at the counter. What a beautiful hidden gem!

First, this is a coffee and Kava lounge. I don't know much about Kava, so I can only speak to the coffee. They do also have some food, but I am not sure how that works since there was only a single employee when we visited. Maybe only certain hours? Maybe it just takes some time? Not sure, we skipped food on this visit. We ordered one of their signature matcha drinks and a cold brew. The single employee was friendly and doing the best she could, but it got quite busy and I could tell she was struggling to keep up. The prices at the register were $0.25-$0.75 higher than what was listed on the menu board. Always a bit annoying... The matcha was good, the foam texture is very cool, however the cup was more ice than beverage. The cold brew was fine, nothing special but still tasty. I liked the vibes a lot when I walked in here. It's filled with plants and natural light, but then I looked around a bit more and the space just felt messy. There was stuff everywhere, boxes laying on the ground, and generally just a lot of clutter in the space. Overall, I think there are better coffee spots in South Lake Tahoe. If you're looking for Kava, give this place a go, but for coffee I would steer you somewhere else.

I'm a huge fan of Coffeebar in general, so when I saw a location I had never known about or been to, I threw it straight into the map and headed over around 1 PM. It took me 2-3 laps around the block to realize this place was tucked in an alleyway. It's a true hidden gem. I almost gave up when I couldn't find it and the map directions didn't make much sense. This location is a small shop with only a little bit of seating indoors and a few tables outdoors. This is primarily the roasters location, so it's a great place to enjoy the freshest of coffee but also a great place to purchase beans. They had a very large selection of beans for purchase. They still offer a decent menu and a few snacks, though much smaller than the other location. My wife enjoyed a matcha and I enjoyed one of the exclusive roastery blends on drip. Both drinks were very good. The quality of the drip coffee was superior. I want to visit again and try a coffee flight. That's something I've always wanted to do. Overall, friendly staff, delicious coffee, and even though it's hard to find, this hidden gem is well worth the stop. Cheers!

It would not be out of place in a three-Michelin-star dining room. He roasts every batch himself over a wood fire, feeding a beautiful old roaster with logs he chops by hand. His espresso blends are composed with a level of precision that feels almost synesthetic. Ask him what he is aiming for and he will describe the roast in shapes: how wide the base should be, whether it tapers or flares, how many sides the finished polygon has. I have stood there listening, fascinated, with no real idea what he is talking about, then tasted the cup and understood anyway. Important to know: this is not a coffee shop. There is no barista counter. It is a modest storefront and warehouse, and if you stop by you will likely see Tim at the roaster, stoking the fire. The aroma is arresting from the street. That wood fire imparts a signature note that sets his coffee apart. It does not turn smoky in the jerky sense. It reads as a gentle campfire thread running through the cup, adding warmth and dimension without heaviness. Since moving away from Reno I miss these beans enough that I cave and pay the shipping.
