Did a quick trip to Truckee on a grey, rainy day, and thought a little bite and sip would be a great way to warm up. Parking was easy in the little shopping center, and this location is very cute and the artwork/decor (as in all Coffeebars) is charming, stylish, and full of character. Despite the weather outside, everything on the interior was spacious, bright, and comfortable, even with the door open. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the array of savory and sweet baked goods in the case looked appetizing and interesting. I ordered a lemonade and they offered to top it with matcha...never had that before, but it was delicious. I'm all for great service--if you make me feel comfortable, I'll spend money, come back, and make it part of my routine. This isn't even my town, but the moment I walked in, I was greeted right away and complimented on my jacket (which was new--flattery will absolutely get me to spend extra). Back here again since we are in the Truckee area and needed to charge the vehicle. This time we ordered the Pumpkin Spice Latte and or course the Tiramisu latte. The pumpkin spice foam was so smooth and I loved the hint of pumpkin spice. It was the perfect amount. When you take your first sip you get that pumpkin spice flavor with a smooth velvety texture and then the coffee taste. Tiramisu latte, just like last time was velvety smooth with that mini hint of rum, yum. This time we also ordered a Rice Krispie bc my toddler kept asking for it. Taste just like the Kellogga ride krispie but less sweet and it's a bigger piece. My daughter ordered a yogurt. She liked the yogurt itself but I said she should add the granolas in there also. The other day this past week when my sister and I had coffee and lunch here it was good! But today on 6/21, it was BAD. It was very busy! Long wait for coffee and food. The person who took my order got my name wrong so I was waiting for my order longer. My iced Americano tasted burnt. I also ordered a chicken salad sando which had more onions, celery, and herbs than the actual chicken and the sandwich was very small! For the price, it was not worth it! The good: excellent quality food that taste good. Great variety of breakfast items and lunch. Coffee is source wisely and is very flavorful and crafty. Most of the employees are very nice and accommodating. Ambience is perfect. Display of foods is impressive The areas to improve: some of the food items are very expensive. Ex. A single slice of Avocado toast about 5"X5" with 1/4 amount of avocado, arugula, olive oil, pepper flakes, and salt goes for $14! This was unusual to me because you can get an entire burrito for $0.50 more or even better a HUGE slice of amazing pizza for like $8. Perhaps it was an over site. Lastly some of the employees come off like they are over it. Perhaps over working there too long or over the out of towners. Not sure exactly but it is usually just one or two of the females. There's a long counter where you can see all the food items laid out, which is helpful when deciding from all the options. The space has a decent amount of seating, although they also do to-go orders very well. The service is always friendly and they are very efficient considering how busy they usually are. The pizzas are an affordable snack, as they give huge slices and will heat it up so the crust is nice and crispy. The frittatas are also very good. The seasonal drinks are super fun, last week I had the hibiscus lemonade and iced earl grey latte, which were not too sweet and very refreshing on a hot day. I fell in love with the freshly made almond croissants and unfortunately haven't given any other pasties a try, due to how amazing the almond croissant is! Went to the vehicle started down the road to continue our journey and the pizza wasn't warmed up was room temp! The service was not great the pizza wasn't good! maybe if it were warmed up like I was asked and agreed to it would have been better. Relaxing atmosphere. We arrived closer to closing time and I was pleasantly surprised they still had plenty of pastries, loaves of bread, and even pizza! This Coffee bar is not like the ones we have in Reno, they are well stocked with picnic basket items if you're looking to avoid the lines at the supermarket and just buy the essentials for a lovely picnic or fueled hiking snacks. They have different gourmet cheeses and meats too. I really liked this place. I ordered my favorite, lavender latte, they were out of their Jazmine almond latte I wanted to try but I went to the Reno location days after my visit here and they had it. It was lovely too. My Lavender latte was perfect. I also ordered a chocolate ghost mini fudge cake and a Snickerdoodle, they were both fresh and delish. Service was nice as expected and I didn't feel rushed by staff even though it was close to closing time. I'll visit soon after my hike and try a huge pizza slice! We have a Coffeebar in reno so it was very comforting to go to one while I was in Donner. This Coffeebar had pizza! It was sucha cool combination having breakfast items along with pizza. Usually I go to Crescent Cafe at New Moon (which I enthusiastically recommend for value and quality), but they were closed. I have been to the various coffeebar locations for coffee and pastries, and thought, why not give them a try for something outside the coffee/pastry wheelhouse. READER: NEVER AGAIN. Actually, now I'll never even go back for a coffee or cookie. Look, I think we can all agree Coffeebar is overpriced. The organic light rye levain at Tahoe House is only $8 (a steal in Tahoe!) whereas Coffeebar charges $11 for an inferior loaf of bread. But whatever. The coffee *is* good. I assumed that a salad which costs $18.50 (I added avocado for an extra $2 charge) would be a nice-ish dinner salad. I did not expect to get 2 ounces of arugula, 1 ounce of wilted spring mix, and the saddest meal experience of my middle-aged life. First, the salad promises, per their menu, little gem lettuces. I'm not lettuce agnostic. You're charging me $18.50 for a salad, I'm assuming I'll get what the menu states. But no. Instead, you get some shitty spring mix and no garbanzo beans. Randomly, we have substituted... peas? The lettuce was almost inedible, the red cabbage beginning to brown, the feta bland, but most offensive was the price. Reader, ask yourself: is this a $20.50 salad? No. It is not. Moreover, prior to this experience I was a happy(ish) Coffeebar customer. I overpaid for my lattes and pastries to shop local and meet friends for a chat. Now, honestly, I just feel exploited. This is INSANE. I am literally A TEACHER. I just needed a quick and easy meal before class! I really hesitated at a $20 salad because I am not an idiot, but then I thought: THIS SALAD IS GOING TO BE SO NICE IT WILL BLOW MY MIND. Reader, it did blow my mind. Coffeebar's Superfood Salad broke me and I will never return. We ordered a peppermint brownie, ham and cheese croissant, Rosemary matcha and Gibraltar. The brownie had good peppermint flavor but it wasn't very fudgey which is how I prefer it. It was pretty sweet and was closer to grainy and dry than soft. Ham and cheese croissant is exactly like you could find around. The rosemary matcha didn't have a strong rosemary flavor like we were expecting but the matcha itself wasn't the best or the worst. Gibraltar was probably the largest disappointment. It's supposed to be a chuggable temperature but it was so hot that the espresso tasted burnt and acidic. I loved the decor on the inside and it would make a nice work space on weekdays. I also didn't have a "nice" or "pleasant" experience with any of the staff I interacted with. They were all curt, unhelpful and/or rude. I had the cashier loudly sigh and roll her eyes when I asked a question about a drink. She then proceeded to aggressively hit the pastry bag I set on the counter to ask me what was in it. We have been going to coffee bar bakery for about 7 years now. We live about 2 hours away and drive up every few months to visit Truckee and always stop here. In the past we have ordered gluten free sourdough for pick up and then we take it home and freeze it to have on hand. On Friday 1/30 my husband called and placed an order since we were planning to come Sunday. He ordered 5 loaves and gave his name. The person he spoke to didn't mention pre paying but he remembered we always prepay so he brought it up, the employee told him no need to pre pay and he was set. We showed up Sunday to pick up our bread and it was no where to be found. The employees handled this poorly, the first employee we spoke to disappeared without answering us or getting us the other bakery items we ordered there, we had to ask another employee to help us since she disappeared. When we finally were able to get an answer we explained the situation and the employee told us it was our fault we didn't pre pay. My husband told the situation to the kitchen manager after no one followed up with us and all she said it was because they have new staff and we could buy the one loaf of the red pepper, we had ordered just regular plain. They obviously didn't care and took no accountability, just made excuses or blamed us. Such a disappointing experience. I love what coffee bar stands for but I think they need to do some training on how to treat customers, how to apologize and how to repair when mistakes happen. I understand when you hire new employees and are training there are going to be mistakes but when there are there should easily be repair, accountability and a sincere apology. I didn't expect to leave with bread but we did expect a sincere apology, accountability and repair after we drove 2 hours with one of our main goals being picking up this bread. read more
