The cake looked exactly like our inspiration pictures and our guests loved everything. We had multiple guests reach out to tell us how fantastic the cake was the day after the wedding. I submit this isn't subjective.. the thing in my attached photograph isn't espresso. It was weaker than drip coffee and tasted mostly of hot water. What a great find in downtown Truckee! They had plenty of baked goods still available during the end of the day right before they closed, which was a nice surprise. We ordered a blueberry bar that was to die for as well as a twice baked chocolate and almond croissant. Both were so yummy! Cornerstone Bakery became our regular spot while vising Truckee so much so that we visited them all three days during our recent visit. In addition to their great pastry options, they also have many coffee and tea drinks available too. We also enjoyed their homemade focaccia bread with salt and it was so delicious! This place is always busy on weekends so we decided to check it out on a very busy Saturday morning. There was a short lion out the door, but it moved fast. The bear claw looked delicious. I went for the ham & cheese croissant, which is like 6 inches tall. It had a generous portion of ham & cheese inside. This is my ultimate FAV Truckee stop!!! Their carbs, I mean treats, are everything! No matter what you try, you won't be disappointed. Whenever we stay in the area, I try and go here at least once. I was lucky to go here 2 days in a row this weekend. Yesterday we got coffee cake and a fruit pastry (both delicious) and today we got another coffee cake (my bf really likes them here) and I got their vanilla bean pull apart (it always sells out) , croissant and a cookie. We usually also get lattes, their lattes aren't anything special, but pastries and lattes go hand and hand. I promise you that this place is AMAZING and once you try it, it will become a Truckee staple, like it has for me! What a great surprise! There are so many coffee shop /bakeries in Truckee and I have tried quite a few. I kind of stuck with the ones I knew. A colleague gave me a Ham and cheese croissant from here and I telling you...I really wish they had not. Now every morning it's what I want for breakfast. I'm not kidding. I am not sure if it Gruyère cheese or Swiss, but it's amazing. The ham has a slight smoked flavor and the texture is REAL ham. Not pressed. Finally there is no skimping on the butter for the croissant. Just perfect! No I've had croissants from all over the world, and one of the things that makes a croissant stand out is the number of folds in the amount of butter. The croissants here are just perfect. Here are a few things that I've tried: Ham and cheese croissant Chocolate croissant Everything croissant Mushroom Galette Mixed berry Galette Apple Galette Everything that I have tried here has been perfect. That is very rare in a bakery. As well, the employees are attentive friendly and fast. Everyone is so happy, I must imagine that the owner is a great person because everyone seems to enjoy working here. I know this is speculation, but it is rare to see so many happy workers. We picked up pan au chocolat, two cookies, a croissant, a blueberry coffee cake-like bread/bar, coffee, and a few other items that caught our eye, but don't remember what they are. Nice spot... food was good and interesting and fresh. Nice outside seating. Prices were reasonable . My sister was not too crazy about her Foccacia bread but other than that the cornerstone breakfast was good and double bacon sandwich was good. I wasn't too crazy about bacon jam in double bacon but I think that was just me not being crazy about a sweet jam in my sandwich. Overall it's a nice solid breakfast place. After finding a couple different bakeries in Truckee, only one was open and available a few days before the 4th of July holiday: Cornerstone! My partner and I stopped by one afternoon to see if we could order a birthday cake. We were given a sheet to fill out, which included a wide range of cake sizes, flavors, filling types, and frosting types! There was also a line to include a message and any special requests. I chose chocolate cake with chocolate ganache filling, and whipped cream frosting. I was also able to request a small llama image. The team that helped us was very nice and listened to our requests! I absolutely love the end result - it might be one of my favorite birthday cakes I've had over the years! Considering we gave no instructions on what the llama should look like, I couldn't have asked for a cuter image. I also loved the added touch of the sprinkles! Even better, the cake was delicious! The slices were so tall (three layer cake) so there was plenty to enjoy (yay leftovers!). I was truly so sad to finish the cake; it made me smile every time I ate a slice!
