My husband ordered the breakfast special as well you can choose three items he went with biscuits and gravy, pancakes and bacon. Our food was fresh made and arrived quickly, great friendly service! We overheard its a family business owned and operated by three families over the years. They had a table with fresh baked pastries they looked delicious. They have quite a bit of outdoor and indoor seating especially compared to the other places we walked by that only had a couple of outdoor tables. It is an older place but we enjoyed our experience. This place is really cute and the signage definitely brought us in. My impression: eh. The place is very nostalgic feeling, was clean and all the tables were set. The staff was speaking amongst themselves when we walked in and it felt like we were a bit of a crowd in there. The menu was fairly straight forward. Got a Denver omelet. It was ok. My partner got the triple meat omelet and it was definitely the better of the two omelets. I wanted to try the coffee but it was quite bitter, so I'm glad I passed. We had a pretty decent experience here! Stopped in for lunch in our way back into Reno. They were very busy but we somehow found a table immediately and decided to take it instead of searching for another restaurant. All of the employees were very accommodating. We received our waters quickly, although we had to send my husbands back as it at a ration in it. The waitress was mortified and quickly got him a new one I had the chicken quesadilla. It was hot and yummy! It came with a side of rice and beans which I would rate a 3/5. Not much flavor there. The burgers and breakfast looked amazing on other tables. Perrienial favorite when looking for a place for simple yet good food in the Truckee/Tahoe area, Coffee & is the place. Great "comfort food", our meals are always on point. One thing I failed to mention last time was the staff. Our waiter, Manuel was amazing. Friendly and engaging, Manuel took our orders and when delivered was truely vested in making sure everything was good. I came in on a Friday morning about 8 AM and had the fresh corned beef hash, country potatoes, and over easy eggs with the biscuits and gravy. Or at least that's what I thought I was gonna get... What I really got was a plate with corned beef chunks on it next to country potatoes And eggs. So not really a hash technically. Still tasty though. The service, phenomenal; the deliciousness of the food, meh.... The prices seemed a bit high too but perhaps that's just due to the location? The chicken friend steak was cooked perfectly texture-wise but the breading had a sweetness I wasn't expecting and I wasn't into it (my husband didn't mind). I wondered if the fried steak was fried in pancake batter. Speaking of pancake batter, the pancakes were fluffy but needed looooots of syrup; they weren't anything special nor crave worthy. I'd skip them next time. There were some baked goods on a table when we walked in-- perhaps try those over a pancake. As for the Mexican inspired breakfasts, I unfortunately have to echo other reviews, the salsa tasted processed (that citrus acid "I'm from a jar" flavor). I think this place is probably best for those who just want eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, and toast. What a cute nostalgic historic breakfast place. They have a nice variety of foods and nice desserts! I had an almond latte and a basic eggs, bacon and toast breakfast which was super good. Instead we came here and were seated immediately. Food: I ordered the corned beef hash and eggs with hash browns. The corned beef hash was not homemade, but tasty. I was really impressed that they offer a homemade biscuit with gravy as one of the sides instead of toast or a pancake. My boyfriend got the Reuben sandwich which was really tasty and loaded with meat. Our server even gave our a table a basket of fresh sourdough toast so we could all share! It lacked basic seasonings and we also requested a few tweaks to our dishes and they didn't get them right. Not only that, but my husband asked for some simple substitutions and they upcharged without mentioning the cost difference. A $16.25 plate ended being charged at $28.00 range. We spent the same amount here for 4 breakfasts as we did at Lanza's at Kings Beach the evening prior. We felt like we got ripped off. Found this place just randomly looking for some quick bites off the freeway. Walked in and first thing I see is a table full of yummy goodies like muffins, pastries and such. The place was busy which is always a good sign. I was greeted promptly and asked for a blueberry muffin to go. The offered to heat it up with butter...oh yeah! I wanted to give a better score, but honestly it was the food itself that let us down. The hash browns were undercooked and under seasoned. The chorizo burrito also had barely any chorizo and just didn't have any strong flavor either. In fact, pretty much everything tasted under seasoned and lacking in flavor. This is not a current review but a question, I lived at Donner Lake near the corner of Donner Lake Pass and Donner Lake Rd in the late 70's while I worked at Squaw Valley, I used to eat at Coffee And all the time, my quest is do the still have the giant (3 pound) buckwheat pancakes? They were 3 pounds each and a stack was 3 for a whopping 9 pounds. The first time I ate there I shared a table as was typical and ordered the 3 pancake stack and the place went quite and everyone looked at in disbelief then the waitress said "Honey" these are big pancakes and I said I was hungry, needless to say I didn't finish a quarter of the plate. read more
