Carnitas tacos were my favorite! Chicken (grilled) was my second and the Al pastor. I am a pastor snob and there's was flavorless. Th carnitas were delicious. We over indulged on the $1 tacos and BOGO burritos. The marinated chicken burrito had good flavor but was mostly rice. The steak was bland and also mostly rice. Both would have been markedly better if they were hot but they were barely look warm. I'd go back and get more of those carnitas! Cool little place and friendly servers helped us navigate the interesting ongoing specials. Don't judge a book by its cover, go in and check it out! read more

We went here for dinner during our one-night stay in Eureka. When we arrived we realized that many of the options that are pictured on Yelp are actually not on the menu (chicken mole, any pozole). We thought that maybe the menu had changed over time and ordered two steak fajitas and paid at the counter & tipped 20% since we were eating in. While waiting, I went to the bathroom and it was filthy! Clearly, cleanliness is not a priority (there was a brown ring around the waterline of the toilet, the toilet was covered in debris, the floor looks like it has never been cleaned, and the sink was also very grimy). We waited for 40 minutes (no water or chips offered) for our food and I wanted to leave but we had already paid so my husband went and asked about our food and apparently it had been sitting behind the counter. The girl working there apologized and offered to remake the fajitas but honestly we didn't want to wait again (it seemed like food was generally coming from the kitchen very slowly) so we just took the warm fajitas. She offered churros, but we just don't really eat those. I felt bad for this cashier because I think she had been on break when our food was somehow marked as takeout by another employee. We think the blonde employee was very high at work. She seemed aloof, and constantly was walking around the restaurant confirming and reconfirming orders that were made at the counter. It would be easier to just have a number system. (Did you order drinks? *circles back again one minute later* did you order any drinks? Same thing with soft tacos. There were only five tables so it just seemed odd.) Overall, I wish we ate at a grocery store and went to get ice cream after instead. read more

The shredded chicken were pretty good but the el pastor and the grilled chicken were so dry that I can't say it was fully worth it all in all. You've gotta buy one of their drinks for the 1$ tacos which is kinda weird. I got the peach mango at about 6$ and it's pretty much just a peach mango lemonade drink and I pretty much just got it for the tacos. Pretty good but not worth 6$ in my personal opinion. The salsa pretty okay. The hot is really hot, the mild is just okay. The service was good. I'm super disappointed in my food. I got a fajita burrito. It should come with sour cream and guacamole. It says it's included. There was neither. It was just mostly rice. 15.00 for a mainly rice burrito. I also got the large queso and chips. It was lukewarm soup. They've added water in from yesterday. It has to be. The chips are not house made. Store bought. My bad for assuming. I spent 30.00 and I have buyers remorse. Lesson learned. I'll stick with their street tacos. Horrible place, just the rudest service I've ever experienced. I was trying to correct my order with the cashier when a customer chimed in and started chewing me out because I was taking too long with the cashier. The cashier got all flustered and asked the manager to come out and instead of trying to correct my order, he assumed that I was somehow being rude to the cashier! They took away my order and kicked me out for doing nothing other than trying to correct my order! avoid this place at all cost. To claim you serve the best taco's and not have the best is wild haha. Ya'll decide for yourself tho, this is just my opinion. Everything was super mid. You can taste the plastic bag in the tortillas. The tortilla needs to be grilled longer. The meat needs to be fresher. The carne asada was grey and flavorless. The carnitas were dry and flavorless. For whatever reason in this area they automatically put salsa on the tacos every place I've tried. Where I'm from they don't do that. They give you lil salsa's on the side. The bean dip is basically whole beans with stuff on top. Why not refried? The guacamole had an avocado peel in it. Chips don't come with it you have to purchase on the side. Which ain't cool being it's called a dip. What am I supposed to dip with? Not homemade chips either which was disappointing. Lemonade is just premix lemonade with flavoring. If you want carne asada or chicken tinga it's a $2.50 up charge. Why? You also have to buy the salsa on the side. Man I miss the Bay Area. For being proclaimed the best Mexican food in Eureka, California I consider quite a stretch. My wife and I ordered the 3 enchilada place and a grilled chicken burrito. The enchiladas were dry and the red sauce tasted like it was caned sauce from the dollar store. Salty and overpowering. Bland rice and mediocre salty refried beans. Order is taken at the counter. They have a partial paper menu but you need to scan a QR code if you want to see the whole thing. Chips and salsa aren't included but we ordered some ($4.95). Two different salsas came in plastic to-go cups. Chips were likely out of a Costco bag. Not worth it in my opinion. I ordered a $5 lunch special listed on the paper menu but apparently that's only available if you order online. The cashier informed me that they "don't have access to it". No clue what that means but ok, whatever. My husband got the quesa birria tacos which he said were pretty good. I got a chimichanga which was basic but fine. My complaint is that it was served on a sheet of paper lining a plastic basket. Fries can be served like that. Something you eat with a knife and fork should not be. I wonder if they serve their enchiladas that way too? It was messy and impractical. They have no soda or iced tea. We ordered lemonade which was $6 each. Bottom line: food was decent but overpriced and the place is a bit confusing. They remained closed for dine in LONG after everything else reopened post Covid and only started serving again recently. Best Mexican restaurant in Humboldt! I truly miss their sit down restaurant. Overall, I love their customer service. It is up always welcoming and friendly. I appreciate that they are a small local eatery and I am proud to spend my dinero here first before heading to other local restaurants with various chains. Their location may appear a little bit hidden but I always remember that wonderful places must be discovered or found. I ordered 5 street tacos Al pastor and 5 de tinga because I was told they are spicy. To be honest, I wish they had lengua in stock but with $1 tacos I can't complain. I just hope it is worth the hype and I am able to enjoy the tacos with limón y salsa from the house. I also ordered 10 de carne asada priced at $2.90 ish.
