This was soooooo much fun! I was really nervous to attend but so glad I did. I assumed I would be in tight spaces but the rooms are large. It's not super dark so you don't feel scared at all. It's just a good time with friends making sense of puzzles and brain teasers. I recommend going with a group of no more than 6 or 7. Anything larger, it will be difficult to work together to figure everything out and you end up with people just standing around. 2 people could enjoy this too but it's timed so more brain power definitely helps! Tonight I got the chance to beta test a new escape room company in the Billy Graham/Tryon area. First, I loved the location. Located near several breweries, distilleries, etc. it's in a phenomenal spot for a great night out. The staff is super friendly and really excited about their games. The lobby is warm and inviting with a cool, modern atmosphere. We played the new game Devils vs. Heels based on the best rivalry of March basketball history. I don't want to give anything away about the rooms but this one had a very unique, cool setup with two separate rooms merging into one. I thought that the puzzles were good and challenging. One in particular was pretty hard but a cool concept behind it. I thought that it was well designed and you could tell that the owners were very passionate about their work. We had a great time in the King Tut escape room! Our game maker, Morgan, was wonderful when advising us prior to entering the room. The only issue we had was that one of the challenges was possibly damaged which cause us to be delayed by at minimum 8 minutes. Our game master identified the issue and come to fix it. Once corrected game play caught up and we were able to beat the room! I look forward to doing a few more of the rooms with Escape Tactics! read more

This place is legit. I've done over 30 escape rooms and the two I've done at escape tatic are in my top 5. The heels vs devils is the most creative room I have ever played. If you're a basketball fan- this is a must play. If you are competitive- this is a must play. The rooms are progressive and not repetitive. The puzzles are challenging but not impossible. This was my first escape room experience in Charlotte and I definitely want to go back to take on the other rooms. I found Escape Tactic of course here on Yelp and was interested in the room themes, but absolutely loved the location being next to breweries, restaurants, and bowling. You can completely schedule a full itinerary of activities before or after your escape room. We opted for a 3:15pm time and reserved and paid for our spots online for four people (2 adults, 2 kids). Options are aplenty, but going online, you'll see which rooms are popular because they'll be booked through the day. There is ample parking and checking in was a breeze. Waiting area was large and had sample locks to try so you don't get overwhelmed when you start the room. Our game master was Jenn; super friendly and enthusiastic, but spoke a little too fast so I had a hard time understanding parts of her instructions. There are no limits for clues, but your entire group has to agree to them. Keep in mind that your group is not private unless you make prior arrangements and pay. We were joined by four other adults and had a great time with them. They were totally team players. Lucky for me, I got to sit back and observe because our group had go-getters to help solve the mystery of King Tut's Curse. The design of the rooms were amazing. I don't want to give too much away, but get ready to work your brain and be transported into the theme. Unfortunately, we didn't make it within the hour allotted and we left "cursed." Luckily, we walked to the Olde Mecklenburg Brewery for dinner and a local beer to feel better. Next time, definitely trying the Flight 282 room. I may be hooked. read more

Escape Tactic of Charlotte is by far the absolute best Escape room venue. They did an amazing job on the interior design. So warm and welcoming. Great location too!! The staff was very friendly and professional! Our game master Alex Sisk was wonderful. He knew exactly when we needed help. Very tuned in to our group and our needs. I recently relocated to the Charlotte area from New York and brought my new work team to Escape Tactic to do a team building afternoon. I've done a number of escape rooms in the tri-state area, and I thought I had seen the best of the best. I was wrong. We were entirely blown away by the rooms and team at Escape Tactic. We completed the Amazon Survival game and talked about the game and the experience for several days after. The room was much more immersive that I would have thought possible, and the puzzles were innovative, challenging and rewarding - but most of all, fun. Our game master gave us helpful hints when we asked, but never gave too much that we felt like we weren't able to solve the more challenging puzzles on our own. With minutes to spare, we solved the final puzzle piece - complete with a delightful reveal that was utterly unexpected. Now, we're all planning our own individual returns with various friends and families - not only because the games were just that cool, but Tyler and the management at Escape Tactic were superb with accommodating our team and quelling any apprehensions some of our first time players had. They even opened up the facility early to accommodate our group - above and beyond at every turn. As a bonus, the facility is surrounded by several great breweries, and the day we played, we even received a coupon for a free appetizer for one of the breweries nearby. A group of 4 of us stopped by to do 3 of Escape Tactic's rooms: King Tut's Curse, Amazon Survival, and Mine Trap. Reviews for individual rooms follow. The staff at the front desk were friendly and the waiting area is really comfortable. Our check-in went smooth and games started right on time. The intro-stories were a bit rushed and half-hearted and occasionally there were noticeable delays between asking for hints and actually getting them, but nothing excessive. The rooms, as a whole, were "search for keys or combinations to locks throughout the room", with not much tech use. It makes them easy to understand as someone new to escape rooms, but means there is very little 'wow factor' at any point in the experience. It also makes the rooms feel like "been here, done this before" for enthusiasts. I have a hard time recommending Escape Tactic as a whole, because there is another fantastic Escape Room business very close by that blows them out of the water. We had planned to return in the future for Flight 282 and Seal Team, but that's unlikely now. --- King Tut's Curse: 4 out of 5 This was a fun room, even if it felt a bit simple. Set design was also well done. Things opened up as we solved puzzles and we liked how it wasn't linear. There was a decent bit of tech in the room that was fun to interact with and really helped with the whole 'tomb' immersion. Some tech was touchy, took a big of wiggling to get things to trigger a few times, but not to the point frustration. Still, mostly a bunch of padlocks and combo-locks that immediately feel out-of-place in an ancient pharaoh's tomb. The final puzzle is a bit of a let-down and the room kinda fizzles to a conclusion - no clear sign or feeling that you've finished. I'd recommend this room, especially for newer people to escape rooms. --- Amazon Survival: 2 out of 5 We were paired with a team with a baby - a first for us! Most places we've played required private rooms for groups with children under a certain age, but the kid was a perfect angel and the other 3 were great team mates. Unfortunately, the room was bland. Visually, it looked like the work of a high school theater club - pretty good for a distance, but not great when you got close to individual parts. We had several puzzles that weren't reset at all, which sort of ruined much of the experience (and left us really confused with clues that didn't solve anything). The room starts with a gate puzzle (a puzzle you must solve before you can continue with the rest of the room) that felt more like it belonged in a carnival than in an escape room. It also clearly is a puzzle most teams don't solve or doesn't work correctly, because they were offering to come in and manually let us past the block before we were even out of tries. Was almost entirely "find the key/combination, try it on all locks until it works", with only 1 piece of tech that I remember. A puzzle type gets repeated at one point, which felt like lazy design. Again, the room sort of fizzled and we weren't 100% sure we had completed the room at the end. Maybe if there hadn't been the reset failures, we would have enjoyed it more. But, from this experience, I don't recommend this room. --- Mine Trap: 1 out of 5 We were again paired with strangers, but got lucky for the 2nd time today and they were a blast! Mostly new to the hobby, they were enthusiastic and fun to play with. Unfortunately, outside of our great team mates, I don't have a lot of positive things to say about this room. The rooms were barely decorated at all, relying on the fact that you had no light to hide for lack of set design. And boy did that lack of light suck - until we solved one of the early puzzles, one team member had to constantly turn a hand-crank to power a single light in one corner of the room. After we got passed this puzzle, we had flashlights and were ready to tackle the room. The remaining puzzles were confusing and there were at least 2 puzzles that we're fairly certain never even came up. Game play is very linear and some of the rooms were far too small for the 10-player cap. Audio clues were in the game, but the tech to play them was fragile so the GM would cut in and just play the clues over the speakers instead. Lots of black-light search-and-find, which can be frustrating, especially when the UV letter is in obscure places. Again, a bunch of combination locks and searching, barely any tech.The final straw here was that something in the room gave two of us allergic reactions, so beware if you have asthma or sinus allergies. It was nothing life-threatening, a dose of over-the-counter allergy meds took care of the effects. As a plus, this room (unlike the other two) had a very clear ending and we knew for certain when we had defeated the room. Still, I don't recommend this room. read more

So, I want to start by saying I loved the staff here. And I loved the other 4 rooms. However, after experiencing their new escape room, everything fun about this place was out the window. Before writing a review I emailed back and forth with the owner a bit. Here's what I experienced in the SEAL team room. A weirdly uncomfortable, tone deaf, insensitive theme with a terrible flow of clues. The owner said their veteran focus group thought the flow was really good. I've done dozens of escape rooms and this was the first one that had riddles & puzzles that had no answer or correlation to the game (bc the focus group deemed them too hard; they left them halfway in the game; I mean literally there were three scales built into the wall with a key pad lock with no key, or reason) part of a clue was to identify smells from vials. Creative I guess, but disjointed from the theme. The room itself wasn't fun. Sometimes a room with not so great puzzles can be overlooked if theres a really fun theme. ****Room spoiler , I guess ***** And that's where things get weird. The story is that you're a navy seal dropped off in Kabul, Afghanistan sent to thwart an ISIS terrorist attack and kill the terrorist. the game heavily relies on a lot of gun related clues, which seemed tone deaf to the current gun violence and debate happening in America. The game ends with you getting a fake AR and shooting a cut out of a man wearing a Halloween costume of a Muslim and pointing a gun. Which I found weirdly insensitive to Islam. It gave me intense anxiety hearing the other people in the game saying "kill them" "shoot them in the head" Aside from the uncomfortable stereotyping I felt, the game poses itself as you being American but all the letters and notes you receive are from a terrorist writing to I guess another terrorist, which again felt disjointed from the theming of being a navy seal, and saying things like "were planning a terrorist attack in Charlotte Miami and la" and ending letters with quotes similar to 'allahu akabar' (cant remember what Arabic words they used) When I emailed the owner I got a generic response about how the room is designed to honor and support the troops, veterans, and fallen soldiers but the whole game is set up as if you're a terrorist receiving terrorist hints about how to get into a terrorist hideout only for the only mention of America to be at the end when you drop the American flag. I tried to explain the point of view but I didn't really feel like her responses understood where I was coming from. Their next room is about a hijacker on a plane with a bomb, which again seems incredibly tone deaf, and it's unfortunate one of my favorite escape rooms in Charlotte is now on my blacklist due to the theme, puzzles, and owners nonchalant responses. Make of this review what you will. I'd like to give them higher stars for the other rooms, but after being physically ill after the room, and breaking out in hives from anxiety and the owner offering a half assed sorry you felt that way and no refund ,I can't rate them the stars the other rooms deserve. Escape rooms are a fad, a dying one, so I understand trying to be edgy and new but this missed the mark sooo hard I felt terribly exhausted afterwards. *heres an edit for the owner* I never insinuated that I wouldn't write a review if you refunded me. I said I didn't want to write a review bc I already gave you 4 stars on google and truly loved your establishment. I've done a few escape rooms in different states and this one was by far the most intricate escape room I've ever been to! Very creative and well thought out. We have to give a lot of credit to Jason for helping us with unlimited clues. Our group of 7 had a lot of fun chasing down keys and codes. Would definitely recommend this place! We did the flight 282 room and the set up was ok. The carpet in the room was tore up and made me keep tripping over it. The clues were not set in place properly before we entered the game. The ticket need in the first room wasn't in the first room but it was in the second. The room master brought us another copy(completely throwing of the atmosphere).The code for the second room was already down. As we unlocked the door to the second room we were ask how we knew the code(which had been showing since the beginning) and were told we don't need to be in that room. From that moment on we were questioning everything about the game. When they walked us through the rest of the room because we didn't finish, we were told we needed at least 4 people for one part(they say on the website you can do it with 2). As we finished we were showed the other rooms where our game master show us the king Tu room. She continued to say this was the easiest room and probably the best on for my partner and me. My partner and I are avid escape room goers and I took offense to this. We usually play the exit Strategy games which I find to be a lot more put together then the games here. One of the best escape games I've done. Puzzles and theming were great. We did the seals room and it took us 50 min to escape. We had 8 ppl and it was a challenge. Big fan of South End's newest escape room! From the owners' warm welcome and excitement to the very fine details in the room, it made for a really fun Saturday afternoon activity with friends. We did the Heels v Devils head-to-head challenge and it was so much fun. I have not seen another escape room take this infamous rivalry and turn things into such a challenging puzzle in actual locker rooms and on a basketball court. You don't even have to be a part of one side of the rivalry to appreciate all the challenges in the room!
