Hands down one of the best fun filled no fuss birthday parties we've ever thrown for our kids. From the moment we pulled up the staff and owner were outside helping us bring in food and get kids in the video game room. The setup is a gamers dream. From high end gaming chairs, a selection of Xbox, PlayStation and PC gaming devices to individual monitors, headsets and games projected on the walls, my kids and their friend had an amazing 2 1/2 hours of gaming fun. Our host (Mr. Reilly) was so knowledgeable and so patient. He stayed in the room helping get everyone setup accordingly and even shared some tips and tricks. The cherry on top of the day was the owner and his hospitable spirit that started from the time we arrived. He even put the NCAA tournament on the big screen so we parents could relax and check our brackets :). We came to Escape Kings for a friend's birthday and we all had a great time! We have done a few escape rooms before so we understood the concept and worked well as a team. We booked the only room that was available and just our luck, it was the most difficult room (besides Aztec Ruins, which is difficult because you have the chance to win an Xbox). We did the Ghost Hunters room where you are set in a scene where you are trying to set a ghost's spirit free. Definitely spooky! You are allowed three clues, so use them wisely! This experience was different for us because there were a lot of locks but not all had to be opened, so pay attention to the story line. The location is conveniently located near Carowinds so if you are out of town and need some other activities to do besides the amusement park, this is a great option! The staff here is SO friendly. You can tell that they are all so smart and love what they do. The game maker even added personal touches to really make the birthday boy special. read more

Escape Kings did an excellent job building suspense prior to going into the room and throughout the game. There is a wide variety of clues which allowed all of us to contribute in our own way. They will help you if you get stuck, but not to the point where they give you the answer, which we really appreciated. We had so much fun figuring everything out! I suggest going with friends you know will work well together, as it is tough - we finished with just 29 seconds to spare. We had a great time exercising our brains in the Aztec Room at Escape Kings! The staff really make this spot great. We were greeted warmly by one of the owners, Nathan. He joked around with us and dropped some hints about the room. We were then handed off to our "tour guide" (I hate I can't remember her name, because she was also great) and escorted to our room. I'm happy to report we escaped with a couple minutes to spare! All of the clues and puzzles were fun and interactive. I liked the fact that there were multiple ways to beat the game -- kept us on our toes and from obsessing over any one clue too long if we got stuck. We've been to Escape Kings twice now and both times have been great. I love the escape/puzzle rooms in general, and Escape Kings does not disappoint. We played the Aztec and Haunted Hospital rooms, which were a lot of fun. The business is family run, so they spend a lot of time with you to make sure you have a good experience. (They also have a great variety of chocolate candy to choose from in the lobby.) One of the nicest benefits is that you can spend $10 extra a person to reserve the entire room, which matters to me because I don't love working with strangers. At other places it is way more expensive to have a dedicated room. Can't wait to try out the zombie room! read more

This is the only family friendly escape-room-type place in the Charlotte area. My family had never done one before, and had a blast at Escape Kings. The seasonal Santa's Workshop room was challenging, fun, and age appropriate for my 9, 10, and 12 year old boys. The owners were the nicest folks who took time to explain everything and ensure we had a great experience. We'll definitely be back to try the Aztec room soon. They also seem to be a great place for birthday parties with the Halo/Minecraft room, etc. read more

When my cousin first told me about this place. I was worried. I have no idea what I was getting myself into. But hey, as long as I'm doing this with my family. I figure why not. The object of the game. Your team will be lock in a designated room. Whichever room you picked. You need to find clues within that room to unlock other clues within a given time.. For us, we need to find a cure to save mankind and to find the code to get ourselves out that room under one hour! We manage to get out with 4.07 mins to spare.. I must admit.. A couple of times we have no idea what to do next with our clues.. We're stomp. Luckily we get some help here and there!! The room is equipped with camera to monitor us.. Which is pretty awesome.. The owner husband day job is at Microsoft and he used to be a legit hacker. So this is pretty fun for him to see how people hack thru things instead trying to solve the problems. And he's a pretty cool dude. Funny at that. We learn how to do the "turkey leg" dance.. They are definitely expanding. We get to see a couple more "coming soon" rooms! And I'm looking forward to trying those out. These type of games definitely get us all laughing and have us working together. And now I know I won't survive the zombie apocalypse. We had so much fun at Escape Kings. My husband and I took on the biohazard room with another couple that we are friends with. What I really liked about this room is that the puzzles were challenging and thought provoking. We weren't just looking for one key or combination after the other. The other key part of this experience was the staff. They are truly top notch! They're very welcoming and entertaining and you can tell it's important to them that everyone enjoys their visit. We used a Groupon and rented the room for ourselves (3 people). We had fun solving the clues, and didn't have to worry about getting frustrated because they gave us some gentle hints when we asked. This would be a great team building activity, a good rainy day outing, or just a fun way to spend an hour with friends. I booked Escape Kings for my son's 8th birthday party. I am allowing a single star because my son had fun. However, I do not recommend this place for a children's birthday party. First, I selected this escape room because reviews (and the owner/employee with whom I spoke when I booked) indicated that King Arthur's Quest was appropriate for children my son's age. The actual room was appropriate; however, the party facilities are not well-equipped for a party. When booking, we were told that we could bring outside food and drink for a birthday party. However, there is no separate room for eating. The owner set us up in a room filled with expensive gaming equipment that was set up for an evening Fortnite tournament. (We know how expensive because the owner kept reminding us how much he paid for the equipment during our party.) Instead of putting the equipment away, the computers were left activated, on the same tables on which we were to eat, and, without any sign or warning that the games were off limits. Of course, kids were attracted to the set-up and began to play. I would recommend putting the expensive equipment away, not allowing food in the room, or having a separate location for eating. Additionally, when we arrived, the owner (Nate?) rudely indicated that we were late for our 2:30 party. We were not, in fact, late as we booked at 2:45 pm. Our party assistant (who was very nice) corrected his boss and tried to make up for the poor greeting we received from the owner - that is actually how he introduced himself as "The Owner!" However, his poor customer service made it such that I would not encourage others to book at this escape room. Escape Tactic is run far more professionally and with an interest in good customer service. If you are interested in a children's birthday party, look elsewhere. I was not impressed with the party facilities or the service we received. read more

Planning a birthday party for a bunch of 19 year old boys is tough since there aren't a lot of group activities to choose from. We picked Escape Kings and we're so glad we did! The guys were all 17-20, did the Ghost Hunters room (escaped with 16 seconds to spare) then had over an hour of gaming on their huge projector TVs. They had a blast! The owner and his staff were wonderful. Super attentive, friendly and helpful. The spaces were well organized and clean and it was very easy to setup the party online. They even provided cups, napkins and plates! We'll definitely be coming back to try out the other rooms. read more

Escape Kings does not honor their own paid vouchers. My kids each received a $50 Escape Kong's voucher from their Grandparents, and the vouchers have not yet expired. When my kids tried to contact Escape Kings to book a room, they were told that they no longer offer rooms to individuals, only corporate events. My kids asked for a refund on their paid vouchers, and they were simply told "no." Since none of Escape Kings phones appear to work anymore (my kids had to text them), I can't reach anyone to discuss the situation. If they can't honor the vouchers that were paid for, they should at least give a refund. read more

Wondering which of Charlotte's escape rooms to visit? Escape Kings is the one. We chose it based on the reviews and we are so glad that we made this decision. We were met by the owner, who was very personable. Really nice guy. We received a good, un-rushed, walk-through prior to beginning our challenge; the Zombie Apocalypse. You can tell that a lot of work went into the challenge. It was the perfect combination of challenging clues and the rush that comes with figuring them out. All while the clock is ticking down. And you're not on your own- If you get stuck (and you almost certainly will) there are four chances to ask for additional assistance, which will appear on a monitor. The props in the room were outstanding, really helping add to the theme. As the clock wound down we started getting on a roll, frantically solving one clue and then the next. We were right down to the wire and had actually solved the final clue but just barely missed being able to enter the code to escape. Eh, that close, we called it a win :-) Win or lose, it didn't matter. It was great family fun and we can't wait to go back and try another room. Highly recommended. read more

So we are escape room junkies and me and a group of friends have been going to them monthly. We had been to codescape and exit strategy and so we are use to them. Well when we came here we figured it would be the same gysr. Which in some ways it was... But it was suuuper short... So we usually ask for hints throughout just because we are not extremely smart and we needs hints. Well I don't know if we asked for more hints than we should have or what.. But we are out of the room in 30 mins. We were shocked when the owner walked in, we didn't know we had even solved it. We were super confused and felt like we didn't really get to do a whole lot, it just seems shorter than the other rooms we have done... If we had known we would not have asked for hints so that it would have taken longer. We kind of felt let down. But I am willing to give it another try if they get a new room and maybe not ask for hints. I did think it add cool that they had a body in there. read more

We used Escape Kings for a corporate team building event and it was a major hit. When I first reached out to the owners for information, they responded quickly and thoroughly (way ahead of two other escape rooms in the area). They gave me a lot of options, a list of caterers, and worked with me to put together a really great event. We started off with a mingle and appetizers in the gathering room, then split into two teams and ran two rooms at the same time. One room escaped with six minutes to spare so they returned to the gathering room and got to watch the other team on camera as they raced to finish. Then when team 2 escaped with just seconds to spare, they got to watch a recording of the first team, played in fast forward. It was hilarious. Today we went with our 2 children for the King Aurthur room. Let's say we need some practice but here is my opinion for those who my be interested. It was like $80, so I ask myself is this something that would be worth the money. First and foremost this was our first time and that meant something different for a change. Based on that I was willing to spend the $80. For me thats a lotta breag but I know not for others. We arrived and the lobby was clean with fun Halloween decor. The owner greeted us and explanined the rules. We got into the room and it took us 42 mins and you get 45. I wish we had done better but the experience was fun for us all. We are excited to book the next room. I need to go a few more times before I give it 5 stars and thats the only reason for the 4. read more
