We were both a bit disappointed with the museum overall simply for the lack of more updated displays. We went on a Saturday afternoon, wasn't crowded at all. The 'highlight' was the Cactus 1549, the USAir A320 'miracle on the Hudson. It was fascinating, a video, some sound and light special effects and very short at about 10 minutes. A rather small 'bleacher' seat viewing area. Fortunately the seats were 'padded'. As former Airline employees we got in for $20 bucks each. After viewing the entire museum, I'm not sure it was worth that much. The have a well stocked and large 'merchandise' sales area. There were many Staff members that were available to answer questions. Shout out to Rick Elias, CEO of Red Ventures and a passenger on the flight. He's responsible for contributing $1.5 Million to change the name from Carolina's Aviation Museum to the Sullenberger Aviation Museum to honor Capt Sullenberger. It will also have a focused STEM program.

The stars…read morealigned one morning and I was able to take the trip to Charlotte Douglas to check out the museum. Admission was $25 so after forking up the money, I was able to start exploring the exhibit. The recommended route begins with checking out the historic hangar, which is the oldest hangar at the airport. There are about 5 older planes in the exhibit, where you can also learn about the history of the airport. Next, you'll walk through the courtyard to check out the planes located there. About 5 larger planes are parked out there. The heat can beat down on you pretty heavy so drink water and admire quick. My favorite part of the whole museum was located in the courtyard, the airport overlook spot. One is able to watch planes land and take off, less than 100 meters away. I could spend hours just here watching the planes. Finally, the last part of the exhibit is place in the biggest hanger. Old and new, the hangar is teeming with planes and helicopters. They also have Flight 1549 located inside the hangar. There's a 10 minute documentary accompanying the plane as well, but be aware, there are a couple of jumpscares. Towards the back of this hangar, there is also a flight simulator where you can attempt to land a smaller plane. After completing the landing, I have further reinforced my delusion that I could land a plane in an emergency landing. All in all, I had a wonderful time checking out this aviation museum. Charlotte has a much bigger aviation industry than I ever realized. It's such a pleasant sight to see how rich with exhibits and history our museum gets to be.

There were plenty of places to sit and enjoy. There was plenty of room for everyone to read without standing on top of one another. We spent a full half-hour in the final immersive room lying on a rug propping ourselves on plush pillows. We watched the entire 360 degree show. Hats off to the creators! A nice experience but not worth the cost…read more While visiting one of my besties and her baby, she really wanted to check this Immersive experience of Van Gogh artwork. She's a huge fan, and use to do some kind of work at an art museum in Washington DC, so this place seemed up her alley. She graciously paid $90 for our tickets ($40/adult + taxes and fees), and was sorely disappointed. The old huge warehouse was renovated into a small showcase of Van Gogh art via a few tv monitors and interpreted art sculptures that represent Van Gogh's themes. The main event is the 30 min art instillation that projects on the walls, with strobe lighting and loud music..which is the immersive experience that you're essentially paying for. Of course, there's an overpriced gift shop area..with posters, t-shirts, and art jigsaw puzzles..and a mini bar with over priced snacks items. We were happy to support the culture..but this not truly worth the cost. Thankfully the restrooms were clean (but did not contain any changing tables..and auntie Nneka changed a poopy diaper!!). Also, there was air conditioning and welcoming staff members who were helpful and offered to take our pictures with any of the life sized sculptures. So, its a nice effort..but only if you trying to be supportive of the cause..otherwise..semi hard pass on this one.

It so so weird to walk into this giant empty warehouse and then be transported to another place via VR. We did the one with dinosaurs and it was great!! We felt like we were inside a pyramid and floating above the pyramids. We made a reservation ahead of time. The experience took 45 minutes. I still enjoy coming, and seeing all of the aircraft, helicopters, and especially the World War II reenactors that take the lot at the back of the airport. There are a lot of great food vendors with tons of options for families as well so you can definitely spend an entire day here and not go hungry. I would recommend bringing your own chairs and dress warmly, or check the weather before you come, as there is not really any shelter from the elements. There are also are only porta potty bathrooms for what that's worth. Children under 12 are always admitted for free!

Adult tickets run $15, ages 12-18 are $10, veterans are $5, and kids under 12 are free! It is a celebration of our veterans and in many ways a throwback to less complicated times. The organizers do an exceptional job. Food vendors abound and its sole sunglasses vendor, Sun Optix, offers great year end deals on its quality eyewear. Hands down, it is a Gotta Try!
