Fortunately, I had been referred to Joseph and Canyon City Air through Nextdoor, checked the reviews, and decided to give him a call as my first option. I was worried that I wouldn't find someone at 6 PM, but sure enough, Joseph answered the phone and said he was doing service calls as long as he could tonight--although he might not be able to come out until tomorrow morning. I told my tenants to turn off the AC for a bit, as it may have just been overused, but that Joseph would try to come out. Joseph came out less than 90 minutes later to our rental in Glendora, and fortunately, the AC started working again. He checked a number of items and determined a possible cause, but said to keep running it and call if it happens again. He lives down the street and didn't charge us a dime since it started working on its own and we may need to call him back. I can't thank Joseph and Canyon City Air enough for giving us the peace of mind of knowing that when we're in a crunch, we have someone honest and reliable we can count on. We'll definitely save their number for future reference, and you should too!

It is with great regret that I have to write this 1-star review for an otherwise seemingly caring…read moresmall business, but I really feel I have no choice after their conduct this week. DMS Air was retained as part of a larger remodel of the building we sublease in. Five months ago, back in January, they replaced all the AC units on the roof of our building. They brought cranes early in the morning and replaced all the rooftop air conditioners. By all accounts, this seems to have gone smoothly. Then, around 11am, when they had finished their work on the roof, they began checking thermostats to see if they worked. Our's, for whatever reason, did not. We tried a variety of things, but essentially the low-voltage wires that supplied the thermostat were totally dead; no voltage. My guess is they weren't connected at the roof, but it's possible they got cut at some point during their install. Mind you, the thermostat worked perfectly the day before the install. Now, the guys from DMS Air were trying a few different things to get the voltage back, but they couldn't make it happen for some reason. We wanted to work with them, and I even offered to run back home to get my phone line tone and probe kit to help them identify the wire. I stood at the thermostat with a voltmeter and the tech on the cell phone just to help them find the wire. But alas, they couldn't find it. I felt bad for the techs and they told me they wanted to back to Orange County (1.5 hour drive). I was sympathetic since they had probably been up for hours to do the early install and were tired, even though it was probably them who cut the wires or misplaced them. So they promised me they would come back since they had other work in the building to work on it. In the meantime, they jumped the wires on the roof so that I could at least have AC. Now, I couldn't have heat since they could only wire the unit in one direction, so we opted for AC. Weeks came and went, and no one showed up or even called me to get this thermostat working. In the meantime, we needed to run down the hall and flip our circuit breaker. Keep in mind, we are the same building as a bank, so they always give us dirty looks when we go back and mess with the breakers. I finally called the company in February and spoke with Daniel Montes, the owner. It had been some time, so he asked me for a day or so to collect info and talk to the techs so they could get on the same page. That was totally fine, of course. After a week, no response. I talked to our property manager, the general contractor, and even the branch manager for the bank at this location. No one seemed to be able to get through to this company. I would call about once a month and get the same response "Let me give you a call back after I talk to my guys." Finally, last Monday in the month of May, after five months of no thermostat, I finally called the company and told them that I needed a firm date when I would at least have a date on the schedule. I even told Daniel Montes that I understood they were far away and said they could just come on a day when they were in San Diego and not to strain to come specifically for us. Daniel was very much angry with my insistence on a day to get back to me. He angrily told me he would get back to me on Friday and before I could even say "yes, that's fine," *click* he hangs up the phone. Now, that alone would justify the review, but I decided to wait until Friday to see if he would at least call me back after cooling off. Also, who knows? Maybe he would at least call to say sorry? Nope. Nothing. And the cherry on top was that I even saw his company again working on our building on a different project on Thursday. They could have just worked on it at that time... I spoke to the tech and told him what was going on, but I think he understands that Daniel is very single-minded and wants to work on the next "work order" rather than completing a job and fixing their mistakes, which won't make them any additional money. The tech wouldn't even look me the eye. I am so appalled by the lack of accountability by this company, especially the owner. He even had the nerve to accuse us of using the wrong thermostat, as if I don't know that this has no effect on the presence of voltage on the thermostat wire. Anyway, this is a long review, but it reflects the extent of the negligence of this company. If they're reading this, I hope they learn to do the right thing from now on and take this as a lesson.

I sell real estate in the San…read moreGabriel Valley and have experience with many, many HVAC companies through housing inspections for buyers to repairs and new installations for clients of mine and Comfort Zone is far superior. I had them come out to my own house a few years ago and they were exceptional. I had braced for them to tell me I needed a new unit, and at more than 25+ years old that wouldn't have surprised me. But, they didn't. They serviced the unit and it worked great for another 3 years. This year, at the peak of summer heat, of course, the old AC unit that came with the house we bought died. I brought them out for a quote to remove the existing asbestos ducting and replace everything with new equipment. They just finished and I am thrilled with the experience from beginning to end - and I'm not just saying that because I finally have cool air blowing! Here's why I will recommend them to my neighbors and my clients: * They showed up on time and had the written bid to me when promised. This may seem like a small thing, but my experience is when contractors don't show up on time to get the job, you can expect a lot more of that once you sign a contract with them. * Their bid was very detailed and was sent with their insurance and bonding information. I usually would go looking for this information before hiring a company, but they proactively sent it with the bid. * Their bid assumed and included pricing for permitting the job. This is a big one. If a contractor tries to convince you to do the job without a permit then walk the other way. Now, you may choose not to get a permit, but you want a contractor who isn't afraid of and is familiar with the permitting process all the same. * Their office staff is exceptional. They were always two steps ahead of me and would proactively send me information about phases in the project like coordinating the asbestos removal (a different company). They also emailed to let me know the permit was pulled. I never had questions about what was happening next as they would email with the information before I even thought to ask. * Their pricing was right in line with what I was expecting. Frankly, even if they were higher than other bids, I still would've hired them because of all the reasons above. They also adjusted my final invoice (without me even asking or knowing it had to be adjusted!) because I didn't use the thermostat and the smoke/co2 detectors they had bid. I'm not sure I've experienced many times a contractor reduce my bill without even being asked. Because of all of the above I am fully confident if something happens to my new AC that Steve and his company will stand behind their work and fix the issue. I don't have a single negative thing to say about this company.
