First time going to any Erewhon location and this one in Pasadena was an easy walk down the street. We came during a time when it seemed like a local running club was hanging out at so the lines for the smoothies/drinks area was going all the way out the door. It was a blessing in disguise too because the cheapest drinks available was $10 (one drink which was the newest) and others went up to $20 for one smoothie. I was expecting the grocery shelf items to be equally expensive but some products were actually pretty reasonable. The prepared foods display was clean and organized well. They looked delicious and the hot foods display was also very appealing. We ended up buying a couple of protein shakes and I liked the simple ingredients listed on them. During checkout, staff asked if we were a "member" of Erewhon and we said no, and there wasn't any additional info given about how to get one so idk what the perks are to being one. It's hard to describe the feeling that I feel when I shop at any Erewhon. So many questions like how.for instance , how organic is this baby kale? And why do we eat baby vegetables? How many employees does it take to consistently restock every self as soon as someone removes an item? Sounds good right. On this trip I got unlimited edition kombucha and some soap. I ordered a tote bag from Erewhon that arrived with visible bleach stains. When I contacted customer service to report the damage, I was told that what I was seeing was simply a 'natural variation in the canvas,' which was completely false and frankly insulting. Rather than acknowledging the defective item, they doubled down, insisted all sales were final, and made it clear they had no intention of helping me. After five attempts to get any form of resolution, I was essentially told I was stuck with a damaged product. It was only after I threatened to write a review that they offered an exchange, which I declined. At that point, a refund was the only acceptable resolution given the experience I had been put through. For a brand that charges premium prices and markets itself as a luxury experience, the customer service protocols and quality assurance are appalling. Being gaslit over an obvious defect on a $160 item is not the standard I expected from Erewhon. Buyer beware, if your order arrives damaged, don't expect them to take responsibility. read more

Certainly the most unexpected store I've been in. Everything from the front to the back is completely aligned, organized, and clean. Erewhon certainly has a compact type feeling to it. There's many options for most items you need including food, groceries, snacks, and even skincare, and candles. While yes, prices are higher than your usual grocery stores, Erewhon offers different items including items that are higher quality than most. Plus points for free parking next to TJMaxx Food area is where most of the shoppers were, lining up for the food court which provided many options for brunch type meals. My partner and I of course had to try the signature Hailey Bieber drink, which for the price $20 for 20 ounces of a drink is not too shabby. Came by to check out the hype at this place. For those who are long time locals, I will date myself, but it's in the former I. Magnin/Borders building. Lots of unique brands here that I haven't seen at other markets, attached to prices I haven't seen at other markets. There are some items that are priced similar to Sprouts, but most items are on the higher end. (Anyone want a $42 supermarket apple pie or a $165 Erewhon hoodie?) They do have sales throughout the store. I appreciate their hot foods area, there are a lot of yummy items to choose from, from breakfast entrees to lasagna, to pizza. I was really looking forward to visiting Erewhon because I'm not from the area (I live about five hours away), and getting a smoothie here has become part of my trip. Unfortunately, my experience today was very disappointing. I ordered a smoothie through the kiosk located in the back of the store and went outside to the patio to wait. The kiosk said I would receive a text when my order was ready, so I waited. After about 30-40 minutes, I noticed people who had ordered after me had already received their smoothies so I realized something was probably wrong, so I went inside to check on my order. I stood at the counter for a while before anyone acknowledged me. The coworkers stood there talking which I know they could see me standing there, yet they proceeded to talk among themselves. When someone finally asked if they could help, I let them know I was waiting on my smoothie and gave him my name. After I gave it, a female employee with glasses (didn't get her name) said, "Oh, that's the smoothie that I put down there," referring to where it had been sitting in the fridge. I told them I had ordered it about 30 minutes ago and asked if customers are supposed to receive a text when their order is ready. They said yes, but I never received one. When I mentioned how long I had been waiting, the response from the female worker with glasses was, "Well, there it is." And proceeded to hand me the watery smoothie. The way it was handled felt very dismissive, especially since the smoothie had been sitting there for so long. The smoothie was watery and melted, which was expected after sitting for over 30 minutes. What bothered me the most was that there was no apology or acknowledgment that the order had been sitting there. I had to ask myself if they could remake it because it was no longer the quality I expected. The male employee did remake it, but the overall interaction was not what I expected. Ironically, the nicest customer service interaction I had in the store was with the guy offering tequila samples near the entrance. He was friendly and welcoming, and honestly provided a better experience than the interaction I had at the smoothie counter. I'm sharing this as constructive feedback because mistakes happen, but customer service and how a situation is handled make a big difference. There's a nice variety of food here. I do like the broths and hot food items. I also come here to shop for health supplements and the girls working that section are very helpful and always making sure you are helped. However, the rest of the workers seem to have tunnel vision. I mentioned this to the cashier after he ask how I was doing and he said that it's common for the workers at that location to have lack of special vision. What the heck??!! Be prepared to bump into people there and have workers always in the way of your shopping. read more

We were regular customers at Erewhon for about two years. We even had a membership which, by the way, I absolutely do NOT recommend. For a store that positions itself as a premium health grocery store, the product selection is actually quite limited. The prepared food is marketed as "healthy," but in reality a lot of it is extremely greasy and heavy. The worst experience we had was with their burgers. One time my boyfriend bit into a burger and there was a piece of bone inside. He almost broke his tooth and ended up with a small chip, which was still very unpleasant. We brought the bone back to the store and showed it to the manager because we thought they should take this seriously and pay more attention to what's happening in the kitchen. The manager's response? She offered us ice cream. Seriously. Does she really think ice cream is going to fix someone's chipped tooth? About six months later we decided to give their burger another chance. And guess what? Another bone in the burger. At that point we were already eating carefully because apparently finding foreign objects in their food is something customers just have to expect. We also had an issue with the post-workout smoothie once it was extremely watery, but they refused to remake it. If you still decide to try their burger (which barely tastes like meat anyway), I'd suggest getting the small one instead of the big one -- it's at least slightly better. Enjoyed our experience at this Pasadena location. I liked that it had a more spacious parking garage than some of the other locations and the actual market itself seemed bigger. The produce section looked so fresh and vibrant. Everything looked in season and just at the perfect ripeness. What we really enjoyed about going to Erewhon is the variety of hot items and prepared foods that they have available. From soups, sandwiches to sushi and pizzas there is something for every taste preference. We ended up picking up some premade teriyaki tofu, vegan short ribs, buffalo cauliflower and gluten free Mac and cheese for the vegetarians in our family and Korean short ribs for the non vegetarians. Everything was very tasty and well seasoned. We also had to try one of their smoothies. This time we tried the Malibu Mango. It was good but not worth the price. I think we preferred the Hailey Bieber smoothie better. Everything in Erewhon is priced at a higher price point but I think overall the quality of food seems to justify some (not all) of the higher pricing. If we are craving another market trip to an Erewhon, we definitely would visit this location over some of the other ones in the LA area. read more

I was so excited to enter this market. I looked around and saw many familiar brands that I have seen at other healthy markets. I was even more excited when I seen all the fresh food that they had. But the fresh food is very misdeceiving. I had thoroughly read the description of the food at the counter and when I had placed my order and received my food, the sticker that came out on the food said a whole nother list of ingredients. This market gives you the perception that you are getting clean ingredients in your food. When in all reality that is not the case. You have to wait to the printed sticker comes out on your order. Mayb $10-$15. The coconut cloud one, eh... very strong coconut flavor. Not too sweet which is nice. The Malibu mango one was really sweet in my opinion. Tbh, I make smoothies every day. She asked if I needed a bag, and while I was answering, "No, I have a pickup order, so no need," she interrupted to ask if I had a membership. Watched a couple of YouTube videos and was curious to shop here. I was already prepped for the sticker shock that is part of the brand. Surprisingly there are some good values to be found and even some sale items. The Raw Golden Goat milk is $10. It's actually quite good and good for you. I also picked up a couple of sea moss probiotic sodas, on pomegranate and one mango ginger. They were priced under $4 which about the same as Kombucha. Scored some baking chocolate discs on sale that I'm looking forward to trying. A better value than the designer wrapped bars. Speaking of packaging, every aisle is beautifully curated. Check out the labels of the canned fish! What would really make my toes curl if they had a sample day. I would line up for a spoonful of sea moss. The colors intrigue me, but I would want to try before I buy to know what flavor suits my palate. The prepped food and drink stations were lined up for people getting coffee smoothies and hot dishes. The line spread into the beauty products so I didn't tarry long there. However I did smell the $52 candles in Oud and Rose. Very nice. Ample outdoor seating and perfectly located in the older area of South Lake Avenue where the old luxury brands used to be. Perfectly fitting it's in the old I. Magnin building in Pasadena. Stopped by the Pasadena location and had a smooth, easy experience overall. The store feels clean, spacious, and well-organized, without being as chaotic as some other Erewhon locations can get. I didn't grab food this time -- I picked up a hand sanitizer gel (they also have a spray), while my friend ordered some of the hot food items, which looked solid and freshly prepared. I briefly considered getting the Hailey Bieber smoothie, but it wasn't a priority for this visit. I did notice they offer soft serve, which is something I'd be curious to try next time. One thing I really appreciated was the free street parking nearby, which made stopping in much more convenient and low-effort compared to other locations. Overall, a good Erewhon Pasadena location if you're in the area -- clean, efficient, and easier to access than expected. This is a very upscale grocery store located on a pretty busy street in Pasadena. Street parking is available. This chain grocery store likes to bottle produce and products in their own glass bottle, which made them look very fancy. I got some of their smoothies, which was very tasty! I also saw some of the mix nuts were bottled in mason jars. There is a coffee shops, and pastries available. Hot food and soup are also available. Food looks very delicious. I tried the Korean short ribs combo, which is meat with 2 sides. My plate is not event a pound, but costed over $30 including tax. The food was not as tasty as it presented. I actually went somewhere else to purchase more food! I can get a steak in a restaurant! This place is very clean; however, staff were not too helpful and friendly. Will say the smoothies are good (also a bit on the sweet side) but absolutely not worth $20 each. Everyone always talks about the Erewhon smoothies, but there is not enough talk about the food. Super fresh hot food selection! I would recommend looking up what you want to get ahead of time- I knew I wanted to try the buffalo cauliflower and the kale salad based on TikTok recommendations. The buffalo cauliflower was amazing- I don't know how they've done it so that it doesn't have the cauliflower texture but it is definitely a star! I also liked the kale white bean salad and the other bean salad! This Pasadena location is not as well organized as some other locations I've been to- the parking structure is good, but the store organization is very small. There isn't a clear place for ordering from the hot food bar and the smoothie section, so keep your eyes peeled for that. Having become a frequent recent purchaser at this store I am sad to have had a negative experience so shortly after becoming a customer at this establishment. I made a almost $200 purchase at the cafe and tonic bar today. On my way out the store I was stopped by security and asked to see my receipt. I did not get a copy of the receipt and so security had me wait at the door while they went to talk to the cashier that attended me. Although I can understand security protocol at establishments I couldn't help but feel like I was being racially profiled. It isn't a custom at erewhon for receipts to be checked and as one of the few racial minority customers in the store I couldn't help but feel like my partner and I were targeted. Even if there was a serious inquiry as to if we were stealing anything I would have appreciated an apology from security after having stopped us for an error on their end. Overall I'm very disappointed in this establishment as it the one of the only places in California that has made me feel like a victim to racially profiling. read more

Erewhon is a novelty in itself. Walked over with some friends after eating lunch just to check it out and grab a smoothie. The location on Lake is easy to find and pretty spacious, but parking may be limited. I was expecting HIGHLy overpriced stuff, but the prices were comparable to others grocery store with expensive organic things, and everything is VERY nicely, neatly displayed and clean. For example, it's winter right now and I saw a 16 oz pack of strawberries for $7 or $8. Is that expensive? Yes. Did I also see similar pricing at Ralphs that very same weekend on their organic strawberries of the same size? Also yes. There were definitely some things that were way more overpriced (a doz vital farms eggs for over $10), but it wasn't as INSANE as I was expecting. We got hailey bieber smoothies and while it was delicious with all the collagen-y ingredients, I probably wouldn't get it again for myself. Okaaay erewhonn i get the hype sorta. Honestly thought it'd be super expensive, but its similar to whole foods just depends on what items you seek cuz you know inflation be hitting anyways. Did not try the smoothie. The lines are kind of long but if u buy pizza you can buy it at the register there. The hot food line moves fast and they seem to have many beautifully displayed vegetarian options, but it appears the replenishment takes some time. I probably would go here for specialty items like plant based milk for matcha or coconut cult rather than produce ( as pretty and clean as it looks). Hot plate- had set plates for $20 vegan/vegetarian (arguably where erewhon would shine as its all organic) which is much pricier than whole foods, but you can also gaslight yourself into believing its more reasonable than a meal out these days. Brussels sprouts- love the roast, but salty; not really maple sweet Buffalo cauliflower- okay I get the hype. Its tender, not mushy but great flavor and coating on each bite Broccoli- again cooked well Only thing is the veg are kind of salty Pizza- i feel like this is a pretty good deal esp as it can be harder to find neopolitan style crusted pizza and the pieces are biiig. The margherita was quite parmseany and didn't taste greasy or fell off in a gloppy cheese chunk at all. The crust is thin and airy. Not like gourmet, but probably one of the better deals u can get. Also tried their pumpkin cheesecakes ( wow samples worth $4!!? ) and it was decadent. Parking and location wise I'd say this is more accessible as they have their own garage, but interior wise does feel a bit tiny/jam packed of stuff. When I think of Erewhon, I automatically assume everything is overpriced. So I wanted to visit and see for myself. Sometimes you'll find items that cost you way more than it should, but other times, you'll find items that are reasonably priced and comparable to items at other markets. They have a smoothie bar, hot food section and cold prepared foods like sandwiches, salads and sushi ready to eat. These items in particular are quite pricy with everything averaging upwards of $20 per item! The market looks nice, and it was pretty neat to finally visit an Erewhon. P.S. Came into the Tonic Bar on a Tuesday morning and it was not busy. I got the Hailey Bieber Strawberry Glaze Smoothie and it was delicious! This was my first time ordering at the Tonic Bar and I was very pleased. The employees were very nice and greet you. Multiple outside seating is available and is clean and checked often. It was a little chilly out but the outside seating has heaters and one of them has a center fire pit! Very relaxing to sit out and enjoy your food/drink or even do some work on your computer.
