It's always fun to see what limited offers Salt & Straw is offering. While they had some interesting flavors like Hong Kong Milk Tea White Chocolate, I went with their regular Coffee with Love Nuts flavor. While the ice cream consistency is good and the love nuts (coated pecans) was tasty, I wasn't a fan of the coffee flavor. The coffee flavor was so mild that it didn't even really taste like coffee to me. A kid's size was $5.75. Overall, a great ice cream shop to stop by if you're looking for a sweet treat while browsing downtown Pasadena.
I have ALWAYS wanted to try Salt & Straw for the longest time because I've heard rave reviews, but there are no nearby locations where I live! However, when I spotted this store as I was walking around the area, I had to go. Inside, there were two employees, and fortunately, it was not crowded on a Monday afternoon, so I was helped immediately. I sampled three flavors: Hong Kong Milk Tea with Toasted White Chocolate, Jasmine Milk Tea Almond Stracciatella, and Honey Lavender. Hong Kong Milk Tea with Toasted White Chocolate: This was a special flavor. I LOVE Hong Kong Milk Tea, so I was really excited to try this one. However, I thought the tea flavor was way too strong, and I usually love a strong tea flavor. I really loved the textural element of the toasted white chocolate though. Jasmine Milk Tea Almond Stracciatella: Another special flavor. I also love Jasmine Milk Tea, LOL, so I had to try this as well. Honestly... this had the opposite problem of the Hong Kong Milk Tea ice cream: I could barely taste the jasmine tea flavor! Maybe the almond stracciatella masked the jasmine flavor? In my opinion, jasmine + chocolate don't go well together. Honey Lavender: This is one of their classic flavors, and it was easily the best flavor out of all of them. Incredible balance of honey and lavender!! Loved how floral the lavender flavor was, as if there is too much lavender, it can taste soapy. Luckily, that was not the case. It was so good as the flavors were on-point, it was creamy, and had a perfect amount of sweetness. It's a classic for a reason! I ended up getting a single scoop of the Honey Lavender which came out to $6.95. Honestly, pricey for a single scoop, but the flavor made up for it at least. Still, I don't think I'd go out of my way to go to Salt & Straw because it is pricey. If I am ever nearby, though, I'd probably visit again. They have really unique flavors during their monthly special, but I just hope that they execute them well the next time I visit. If not, the classics are there for a reason, and I'd be interested in trying them as well.
Out of this world tasty! I just joined their reward program and I got a complimentary welcome two scoops cup! JOIN JOIN JOIN! What a treat to join. It's regularly $9.25! The husb had to pay for his two scoops. But oh my it was so worth it. We made a stop here on our date night, it was sorta out of the way, but we're glad we made the stop. In fact, we're coming again this week. The ice cream was so good! The two flavors I got were delicious! I got the coffee and love nuts and sea salt with caramel ribbons! I was full from dinner, but oh my, I could not stop eating my ice creams! Best ice cream I've had in awhile, and I have a sweet tooth! Ice cream was tasty and it felt smooth, and cold of course, as it was getting in my mouth. The employees were friendly and energetic all around. Very courteous. The store is really cute as well, they sell merchandise such as hats and books with the Salt & Straw logo. There is no restroom or place to sit inside the store. The husb and I sat in a bench near the alley, so that is a plus that there were cute spaces to sit outside. I did find out that the public restroom in the alley area close to Javier's closes at 8pm. We parked at the Delacey parking structure. We're going back, it is just SO GOOD! I'll pay $10 for good ice creams!
Came here around 10:15 on a Monday evening and there was no line. The employee who helped us was very kind & allowed us to try quite a few samples before making our decision. This month's (May) seasonal flavors were pretty good, but we ultimately chose the jasmine milk tea almond stracciatella and paired it with the coffee & love nuts. The prices have slowly crept up over the years ($6.95 for a single scoop + $0.50 for a split scoop), but the quality and taste of Salt & Straw keeps me coming back. Highly recommend checking out the monthly flavors if you haven't already!
Really good stuff here! They should have seating, because it's not very inviting to stay. The portions are somewhat smaller than Handels, but it was still delicious. Staff is very friendly and encouraging to try all the flavors.
It has been a while since I been to a salt & straw, so I didn't realize how good it is until recently. They have a lot of good limited edition flavors. The olive oil flavor sounds strange, but it actually tastes really good! I can't wait to come back to try their other flavors.
There are now three ice cream shops in Old Town and this one gets busier than the other two. You will definitely find some unique flavors at this shop. The few times I've been here I have seen them rotating flavors and you can test try them before making the final decision. Even if the line is long the service is fast as long as the people in front of you can make up their mind quick enough.
As other reviews have said, the flavors here are truly unique (and incredible). Don't be afraid to ask for samples; the employees are friendly and used to curious customers. The honey lavender is my favorite, and the selection of creative flavors is special enough that I've brought plenty of out-of-town friends here. Only criticism is the price. A single scoop starts at $7, so you've got to really love ice cream or be in it for the experience!
Every time I come to Pasadena my friend shows me some new place that I love. Salt and Straw is another one! They have a somewhat limited menu but it rotates to keep things fresh and exciting. The line can be long, but moves quickly. You can try any flavor you like and you really should. I tried Strawberry Honey Balsamic with Black Pepper thinking it sounded odd. I immediately added it to my "Flight". The other flavors were equally surprising at how good they were. The Chocolate Malted Potato Chip Cupcake flavor was chocolatey and rich and there was a party in every bite it each of the 4 flavors I got. Their model is great. Make great stuff and do a great job of serving and taking care of the guests. 100% fat guy approved and definitely get you some of this!
Went back for a round 2 on the honey lavender ice cream! Happy to find out that this one is always on the menu (: got a 2 scoop which they put in a cup cause I asked for it to go lol Really wanted to try the tacolate but was iffy on the inside being spicy cinnamon ice cream..
The staff were super patient with my group and the flavors were interesting. Personally, it's little pricey for a small scoop of ice cream (I paid $7 for a single scoop). I probably wouldn't come again unless there was a cool flavor I wanted to try.

Knowing that my cousin and I were going to share a single scoop (6.95), she gave us a bit extra. We sampled a couple flavors before deciding on one. STRAWBERRY HONEY BALSAMIC W/ BLACK PEPPER I've had this flavor before, and I used to think it was a bit too tangy/sour. Maybe with age, I actually enjoy how tart it is, much more reminiscent of what strawberry actually taste like. I didn't taste much of the black pepper this time. Still, we both really enjoyed this signature flavor.
One of the best ice cream shops around. Their ice cream has a very creamy texture that feels dense and smooth on the tongue. They offer a lot of classic flavors as well as inventive flavors that may sound weird, but somehow work (for example: Pear and Blue Cheese). The limited edition flavors rotate monthly. The employees are super generous with sampling. They'll let you taste as many flavors as you want before ordering. They are friendly about it too. My favorite flavor is Freckled Mint Chocolate Chip. It tastes moderately sweet, with the perfect balance of mint and dark chocolate. Another top flavor of mine is Hazelnut Cookies and Cream. I like that it is made with a hazelnut butter fudge that adds a roasted, nutty sweetness. Because there are so many good flavors, I feel like you can't just get one scoop here. My husband and I had to each get a double scoop cup. You also get a better value with the double scoop vs single scoop. There is also a fridge filled with ice cream pints that you can buy to take home. read more
A classic ice cream shop in the middle of the city of Pasadena. I'd say this is one of the best ice cream shops around and for good reason. They've always been a shop that's good with first impressions. They're clean and when you enter, you'll see the cabin mixed vibes with a bit of modern. Staff here is great, I'd say the standard is to try at least 3 different ice cream flavors before picking your choice, however of course, you can flavor as many as you like. My wife and I love their mint choco flavor here as well as their vanilla, among many of their rotating flavors. They have plenty of unique flavors like blue cheese which surprisingly is not too bad, but the options are endless. Highly recommend checking this shop out, and recommend downloading their app as well for rewards. Simple and quick ice cream shop, very delicious and definitely a shop to check out even if you're a local. read more
I just came in on a Monday night because my roommates were craving ice cream at 9 pm.... Crazy people.... and we ended up getting double scoops that were split because I couldn't decide on all the flavor... THEY were so delicious... and honestly, I was truly amazed that Nadia perfectly paired my double scoops together She asked if I had a certain order and I said no... but I am so glad she arranged it bc she def knew how to layers it I ended up getting honey lavender olive oil ice cream.. a huckleberry and strawberry pretzel... Love the rotating seasonal flavors, massive scoops and many samples. + Concord grape nut crumble which wasn't overly sweet (frozen yogurt!), liked the grape tanginess w the crunchy bits and soft pudding (7.8/10) Pots of gold and rainbows was fun to try, tasted like marshmallow and vanilla but too sweet. Captains Berried treasure like grape nut but sweeter, sharper berry flavors in the bits. read more

Salt and Straw has the flavors that will leave you in awe once it goes in your jaw and make you so happy like a dog wanting you to shake its paw. But that's not all, y'all! Milkshakes are in full effect here and that's what I started off with but first it had to thaw out a little. While I waited for that to be made I ordered a scoop of the Strawberry Honey Balsamic with black pepper and after my first lick I was doing the Hotstepper! Word Up! So now that my shake was to consume, my first sip was like a pour over in full bloom! Ohhh Yeah! What I had in my milkshake was a scoop of the chocolate brownie and salted malted cookie dough. So good mixed together but that's just what my tastebuds enjoy. The service is good and it's a grab and go with a few seats only. And that's my take on this ice cream adventure, Peace... read more

This Salt & Straw location is just as good as the one in Anaheim (Downtown Disney District). I came here with a group on a Monday evening (like 9:30pm). The guy that took care of us was 10/10, I think his name was Moussa. Overall a solid dude. I had a wafer cone with two flavors: double-folded vanilla and another flavor that tasted just like cereal milk. The portion was also big. The ambiance is great and it's also helped by the fact that it's in a prime location in Old Town Pasadena. Highly recommended place for your ice cream cravings! read more

This place is located right on Colorado Boulevard in downtown Pasadena. It is a busy place on a Saturday evening. Services is good as can be considering the amount of people flowing through this place. We got a decadent blueberry cheesecake straw. 80 bucks! Tasty AND decedant. read more

This Salt & Straw is located in old town Pasadena, specifically next door to Nike. My husband and I came to this location with our little girl dog (yes Salt & Straw is dog friendly) a few Sundays ago. We arrived just right at 2 pm. There was a small like but the wait wasn't too long. After looking over the menu board, we ended up getting: Ice Cream Flight, $16: For a flight, you get 4 flavors, in which we ordered Huckleberry Cornbread, Oishii Strawberry Pretzel Salad, Banana Bread w/ Strawberry Jam, Birthday Cakes & Blackberries. Part of their berries series, which was available for the month of July. If you are not familiar with Salt & Straw, they are on a monthly rotating menu. Of the 4 flavors we had, I loved the birthday cakes & blackberries the best. But I also really liked the 3 flavors as well. But I did find most of the flavors to be pretty sweet and think the Oishii strawberry pretzel salad to be the least sweet, which had a nice balance. All of these ice cream flavors were creamy and had an excellent mouth feel. Pint of Honey Lavender, $12.50- Just wanted to pick up a pint to take home, a favorite flavor of ours. The honey lavender just has this delicious creamy flavor that is well balanced with the sweetness and lavender. The lavender does not taste like it is artificial, which is really nice. ------------------------------- (Total= $28.50, tax included) For the flight, typically it is supposed to come in a plastic plate that you can hold 4 scoops. But unfortunately on our visit, this location ran out of them so the girl who helped me had asked if it would be okay to have each of the scoops in separate ice cream cups. She also place lids on each of the cups as well. The employee helping us was so sweet and very nice. She was very patient. She was also very helpful in suggesting to keep my pint of honey lavender in the freezer by the entrance until I am ready to leave, since I was planning on enjoying our ice cream in store (there is only 2 small stool seating by the window. My husband waited to get those seats for us while I was in line). Overall, we had a great experience and definitely see ourselves back here again in the near future. Please note that you can purchase dog friendly (non dairy) ice cream. You can find their Apple and Carrot w/ Sweet Potato Ribbon flavored pup cups ($3.75) in the freezer by the entrance. read more

The service is always impeccable, and they're happy to let you sample flavors until you find the perfect one. I treated visiting family to ice cream, and I opted for a split scoop of Strawberry Salad and Goat Cheese Marion berry Habanero. Be careful with the Habanero - it can pack a heat! I'm glad I tried it, though. I really liked the pretzel bits in the Strawberry Salad. Both scoops were surprisingly cheesy, in the best way possible! Props to the ice cream chefs for their creative concoctions. I'm already looking forward to the next series! read more
Haven't had a bad Salt & Straw experience yet. I love that they let you taste anything you want and they have the most unique flavors. Right now the Halloween flavors are awesome, I especially like the pumpkin bread. Soooo good. Can't wait to go back for the thanksgiving flavors. I also highly recommend their non seasonal flavor of pear and blue cheese. Super good. read more
I love every Salt and Straw I've been to, this one included. I love that they let you sample whatever you want to try and that they are constantly rotating in new seasonal flavors. I love how adventurous they are with their flavors. I usually still end up getting my favorite flavor though which is the olive oil. This time I split my single scoop with the olive oil and pear and blue cheese. The pear and blue cheese was just a smidge icy, but the olive oil was super smooth as usual. I also took a couple of limited edition flavors to go. Service was helpful and friendly as usual. There was no line since it was a weekday, but I'be been there when there is a long line. Seating is limited. There are literally three stools. So, it's not a place to hang out, but many take their ice cream to go. Parking is street, but it's easy enough to park in a nearby structure and walk over. read more

Amazing! I've came here many times as this time just over topped them all, AMAZING service! we got held by this girl named mckayla she was super nice and didn't make us feel rushed at all , let us try as many samples as we pleased , thankyou ! i ordered the flight before and they gave it to us in different cups because they had ran out of the tray but with no waffle chips , this time we had went we wanted to have a different mind and give it a second chance , thank you for overtopping our expectations. read more

I visited this location for their cookie recipe promo, granting me and my partner a free kids scoop each. The workers were very friendly and pleasant, still offering us samples and letting us know how to submit our recipes properly. I like that this location has a small window seat facing toward the street for a couple people as well. read more

First time visiting Salt & Straw in Pasadena and wow what a treat! The ice cream here is next-level. I had the Honey Lavender, and it was absolutely divine floral, creamy, and just the right amount of sweetness. My husband went with the Coffee Love Nut and couldn't stop raving about it, and our friend tried both the Vanilla and Chocolate classic flavors done to perfection. Everything was so rich, smooth, and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. You can really taste the care they put into their flavors. The staff was friendly, the vibe was great, and we're already planning to come back to try more! Highly recommend for anyone looking for a special ice cream experience. read more
Took my parents and sister here for ice cream. They LOVED it, they enjoyed the samples and mini metal spoons. They tasted all the flavors that sounded strange, and then ended up getting typical flavors. Service was good, not really a seating area or chairs to wait at. Parking is unideal as well. read more
