It is a good thing I will be spending the next few hours in the car because A) I can cool off and B) I have no clue where to even begin with this review.
A month ago we came here for the first time, and we liked it enough to come back. This says a lot about us considerably enjoying our meal last time (minus some mishaps with my dish) considering the vast amount of (mainly Asian) restaurants I have bookmarked to try in Cbus.
Bun thit nuong with springrolls was ordered last time, and on repeat today. Last time I went for fried tofu penang curry (received my dish wrong with steamed tofu, blegh) so today I ventured to a different, basic pad thai dish. I was craving some warm, sweet, saucy noodles. For good measure we ordered some fresh summer rolls with (very good and crispy) pork.
I don't know about you, but I don't expect to find a heaping mound of 'spring lettuce mix' on my bowl of vermicelli. Peanuts, beansprouts and some cilantro yeah, salad - no. What's more is that last month the dish did not contain this, nor the additional (Bonus!) chewy, soapy, pungent sticks of lemongrass (x a ton). The latter was spread out throughout the bowl and along with the cilantro sticks (stick to leaf ratio was ridic) made the dish inedible. Pad thai was meh, certainly not sweet and it was a rather dry, salty and congealed mess with noodle clumps throughout.
Fast forward to the remade bowl of vermicelli. No salad bar atop this time, still a noteworthy amount of cilantro sticks which we happily picked out. The problem this time being that the kitchen thought it appropriate to swap out regular, thin vermicelli noodles for thick, clunky rice noodles. Sticky, lumpy, snotty thick rice noodles that is. Ew. We were informed it 'doesn't matter' what type of noodle is served. O-K.
'Cause every selfrespecting (home)cook knows that swapping out cappelini for fettucini is totally no big deal, man - like duh. It's not like it changes a dish entirely, or anything.
In summary, we ordered the same dish at two seperate occasions (about a month apart) and received three totally different renditions. Consistency is restaurant/business 101, and Erawan Thai, well they no haz it.
Why so much detail? Because of the proverbial dessert which we got served on the house, next.
Not in need of a third remake of a twice failed and inedible dish well over 45 minutes into our 'dinner', we said to never mind, we are done. Overheard the friendly and professional waiter and a lady in the kitchen talking back and forth, the waiter wanted to take the one (bad) meal off the check (as it had not been eaten - twice!) and the lady was adament to have us pay. Um. No. Behold the craziest of people to storm out of the kitchen and provide us with a verbal lashing only befitting that of a sailor.
Tiny Thai person, you have one filthy mouth! "Fuck you, fuck off, get the fuck out and you're an asshole" were on instant repeat and volume setting 'deaf person' for the entire restaurant to hear ~
In our direction from...*drumroll* the owner-of-this-business.
Shocked but calm we tried to diffuse the firecracker which seemed to have worked, as she retreated back into the kitchen. Until we got served a round two (from behind the bar, this time). "You scam, you eat everywhere and no pay". "Shit honey, she's on to us" I though to myself sarcastically.
Friendly waiter (and poor nephew of looneywoman) apologized profusely stating that the restaurant is not doing very well and they are stressing about money. The lousy $8 meant a lot more to this business owner than it would to our bankaccount I suppose.
Priorities are clearly off here, but you'd think you would ensure a quality product and service (especially when you're in much need of returning, loyal customers). I guess they didn't get the memo.
Most anybody (think they) can cook, but owning a business - well that's another beast entirely isn't it, m'lady?
I will apologize to your other patrons in the diningroom tonight on your behalf, as regretfully you are seemingly not that good at either of the two aforementioned things - and you sure let it be known this evening.
Disclaimer: Of course, all monies due plus tip minus the inedible dish were paid for by friendly and undeserving-of-repulsive-treatment reviewer.
IN RESPONSE TO A COMMENT
I don't appreciate my integrity questioned, but considering the outrageousness of your statements I will not worry about it. I can only assume you were our waiter that evening. I never write or say anything that is not the complete truth, it is a shame you do not operate within those same manners. You and I both know that your comments regarding the bowls of (vastly different) vermicelli's are not the case, but nice attempt trying to save face. I think that in the light of what transpired an apology would have been an appropriate response, rather than debauching a customer's truthful depiction of the horrid experience at your place of business. read more
