This truly is authentic Thai. Lets call refugee road, Thailand. I have eaten many times here and haven't got a chance to review then came today, Veterans day. My cravings for my moms Thai food was real. Maybe it was the honoring of my father's service during the Vietnam war that triggered the cravings or just me missing my moms cooking. Either way, I am weeks away until they come back to Ohio to visit with us so I needed a quick fix until then. Sorry, I digress, back to the food. I ordered my regular. Thai iced tea, thai beef jerky and papaya salad (with peanuts and spicy please). The Thai beef was crispy on the outside with a dark golden color and chewy at the bite. It had a dry sweet and spicy rub sprinkled on it. Yummy!!! Cool it down with some sticky rice and Som Tom. Papaya shredded with tomatoes, chilis and peanuts topped with a sweet and sour dressing. Napping does come afterwards so be prepared when ordering. Ha. My husband whom has a spicy palate himself ordered the Thai Hot wings. I snuck a few and boy was I glad to. They were perfectly breaded and deep fried, topped with a sweet and spicy sauce that didn't over power the chicken wing but gave it a saucy kick. Not too spicy though. My husband also ordered the Thai Pad Nar. Wide noodles with broccoli (leaves and stems) shrimp and a dark Thai gravy mixed with some fried egg and several chilies since he is a spicy guy. My Thai iced tea was bold and sweet. Enough to wet my mouth for more and more spice. A strong 4 stars - one of the best and most authentic Thai restaurants in Columbus. Tom Kha Gai soup was truly excellent. Massaman Curry was delicious. Place looks nice but the food here is absolutely bland and the ingredients were not fresh. I ordered the basil fried rice and it came out burnt smelling with no flavor. They charge extra for the thai basil but it wasn't even fresh. The stem were hairy and the leaves were black. SHORT STAFFED!!! We hate going to place that don't have enough employees to wait on customers. Our Sunday lunch was ruined by Multiple strains of hair in our Pho soup. This little hole in the wall provided the best Thai food that I've ever had! We had the fresh summer rolls, a cup of Tom Kha, drunken noodles, a side of fried rice, Thai iced tea and green curry. My partner ordered jasmine tea but they gave her normal green tea. Our bill was surprisingly cheap. I'll know next time to ask them to pull back on the spice, because the green curry was so spicy that I was sweating! My only complaint is that the server was a little rude- I'm a server, and I know first hand what it's like to be short staffed. I don't blame her or anyone there. But her multi tasking skills were practically non existent and when I went up front to ask for silverware/chopsticks so we could eat our food that was growing cold by the minute, she flat out ignored me for 5 minutes. We've been there many times and have enjoyed it each time. It was very crowded when we went there Sunday and they even had substitute servers. It was still slow but that was understandable. I had asked for more jalapenos and they never came. It was slammed I loved the vegetarian rolls. They were steaming hot on arrival, which was great. The sauce that is served with them is sweet and that is delightful. I had pho and it was flavorful. Many others in the restaurant had it, so I am assuming it is a favorite for others too. However, if it tasted great I wouldn't mind but it wasn't great. The green curry shrimp was not very flavorful. It tasted very subtlety of curry. The main flavor was the coconut milk. The shrimp weren't very good and there wasn't that many. They give you a lot of chicken with an order of satay but they give you the tiniest bit of peanut sauce. Erawan Thai has been on my go-to list for years now. I heard many positive things about the restaurant such as it being unapologetically authentic and flavorful. Finding myself on Refugee Rd this weekend, it was the perfect opportunity to finally try Erawan Thai. Overall, I had a great experience and I am excited to share my thoughts and experiences. SERVICE: The service was excellent! Our server was very attentive and caring for our group. She continuously ensured that we had enough water and were happy with our food choices. Additionally, she took the extra time to explain the differences between the dishes and make personalized recommendations. For example, I wanted a spicy meat-based dish and she recommended Pad Bai Gar Pow. Thank you so much for being a superstar! FOOD: As mentioned above, I had the Pad Bai Gar Pow (chicken) with 3/4 spiciness level. Overall, the dish was very delicious flavorful with garlic and the whole leaves of basil. However, the dish was not spicy at all. I had to added chili oil to make it spicier but it still wasn't at my desired level. We had spice sensitive members at our table so they might have made all of our dishes mild out of fear that we couldn't handle it(?). The portions are substantial. I had enough to take home for another meal. This dish would be elevated with a nice fried egg to add richness to the ground meat from the egg yolk. (I actually did this with my leftovers at home and it was delightful!) My friends enjoyed the drunken noodles, pad see eaw, and panang curry. I walked out of here a few days ago, carrying a doggie bag and thinking "Damn I'd really gotten my money's worth". I got a good portion of food for only $8.95 plus tax. In fact there was so much food that I had another meal and a snack later on. It's a great value! Anyone that's had great Pad Thai will understand the intricate mix of flavors that make this dish wonderful. The slight sweetness, the burn (I like spicy), the subtle flavors of the cilantro, peanut, egg, lime, the "chew" of the rice noodles and the crunch of bean sprouts all come together to make it a very satisfying meal. Erawan Thai's version is not the absolute best I've ever had but it's still very good. It was noticeably sweeter than any other I've had. I might have had them put in less sugar but added more egg and bean sprouts. Just my thoughts... The server was polite and helpful with just the right amount of check backs. The restaurant itself is casual dining, nothing fancy. It looked clean too. We stumbled upon Erawan and although it was a bit of a drive for us, we decided to check it out anyway because of the great rating. We ordered the Tom Yum soup, fresh rolls and crab fried rice - all of which were AMAZING! The soup and fried rice both were very tasty, flavorful and came in large portions. The fresh rolls were just that, FRESH and were great. Just wish the rolls came with peanut sauce... that was the only thing missing. I think we may have found our new Thai home. Great little Thai place we found. I was craving some curry after we ended up at an Asian Fusion place with no real curry dish. I had a salad with peanut dressing to start, and Panaang curry w/ Shrimp and Tofu. Both came out quick. Food was tasty and not skimpy. Hot tea was also a plus. A new Thai favorite, this was authentic as I've had in the area in some time. We ordered the Chicken Drunken Noodles, Shrimp Red Curry, Chicken Fried Rice, and the pan fried dumplings. The spice level of 3/5 was just right, I usually eat spicy food but don't like to go over the top with it. Was worth every penny, great value and plenty for leftovers. I've been coming to Erawan Thai for a few years now. I've never been disappointed with my dishes, the soups, noodles, curry, salads, wings, and rice that I've tried are all great! This is a family owned restaurant and usually they only have one or maybe two servers for the small business. During peak hours service might be slow and I've been other customers become impatient and leave. It makes me sad because this place is definitely worth having to wait a little extra for someone to come to your table with your drink. Although the space is small with I believe six 4-top tables and one large table that seats maybe 8-10, I've been lucky enough to not be here where there's a wait for a table. Maybe to go orders are more popular since I always see customers go in and out, and the phones are always ringing for orders. I especially love their chicken Tom yum and Tom ka soups! Both are flavorful :) My latest order from there was a pad Thai and a green curry. I hadn't had green curry since almost 5 years ago after a bad experience elsewhere, and I was so glad to have tried it again. And it did not disappoint. Portions. Are huge, I would say meant for two. Flavor is spot on. They do add cilantro which made for a fresh taste which I haven't had on Thai before. In our day and age we judge many things from the cover which is unfortunate, a place like this placed in a high end neighborhood would just kill it. I've now had a chance to visit Erawan a couple times since my below average visits. The reasons for my last 2 star review were because of extremely slow service and miscues with my party's meals. Service has been much better on my last two visits with reasonable times. I'd never expect quick service, but it is what you would expect for a small mom & pop type of place with only a few folks working at any given time. I still have to flag down the server from time to time for refills. While they highlight Thai in their name, they really do a solid bowl of pho and other Vietnamese dishes. The only enjoyable item was the satay (albeit the peanut sauce bland). The tea was too sweet. The entrees were horrible. I've never seen a pad thai lacking of color. It literally was white as paper. No taste. Even the children complained. The pad see eww was bland, sticky and tasted off. The Geong curry was watery and to add insult to injury.....the accompanying rice was not Jasmine rice. It was a short grain rice. Mushy and not fragrant Jasmine rice. When it was time to pay, came to find out, they automatically added 15% gratuity even though it was only a party of 4. $85 for terrible subpar meals. Really unsure why they have the rating they do. We were going to go to another restaurant but found it did not open untill 3 on Sundays. So to the Erawan we go! My daughter had the chicken fried rice, again. LOL I started with their Wonton soup, very good the wonton rolls ( is that what they are called???) in the soup were very good throw in a bunch of veggys and its a must try for wanton soup fans. My favorite dish is Drunken noodles....i will not recommend. They tasted like they were drunkened with hoisin sauce...too many things they did to make me think they were taking short cuts....i dont know why...maybe to save $$......NO STENO FOR THE TOM YUM HOTPOT !??!!!?? brought to the table with no steno...when she came back to the table...i asked her were is the flame ...she said we dont have any...crab Rangoon had very little cream cheese with a mix of what seemed to be mozzarella.
