A guy from work said this was his favorite Thai place to get phó. That seemed off to me, as usually Vietnamese restaurants do the phó. The restaurant is Erawan Thai and Vietnamese. Inside has plenty of seating. Tables and chairs. I ordered a rare steak and meatball phó, and chicken satay. I got an order of beef larb, and papaya salad to go. The phó was decent. The satay was great. With those dishes I was thinking this will be my new go to. The service was only ok for me. Back at the house I ate the larb. It was too thick. I didn't order a tiger cry dish. Larb is finely minced beef, pork, or chicken. This was not that. Not a fan. The papaya salad was the same way cut too thick. I wanted to try some more authentic Thai dishes. After being away from Columbus for so long, it was refreshing to know that this place was still on the east side! I Love authentic cuisine, and this Thai & Vietnamese cuisine is just that. First time trying this little hole in the wall on the east side. I've heard a lot about how good the food is so I jumped on the chance when I was in that part of town. The restaurant is small but nice. The guy who took my order was friendly. I decided to order it as takeout but it was a dining room that I would feel comfortable dining in at another time. They have a long table set up down the center which would be great for a small group or large My choice today was a couple of orders of fresh spring rolls, chicken pad Thai (spice level 3), and a Szechuan beef stir fry. I am a new fan of this local Asian cuisine restaurant. They have excellent Thai and Vietnamese options. We started with the steamed dumplings which with a little chili sauce would've been my favorite dish of the meal but they're yummy either way. I ordered the drunken noodles with beef and a #4 spice. The noodles were so good and tasted authentically homemade. My friend ordered the pad Thai with chicken which was also delicious and not mushy like some I've had before. My only complaint is that it wasn't as spicy as I would've like for a 4 out of 5 spice level. Our server was kind and provided suggestions. The customer service here is above and beyond what I've had in the longest time. It's a small restaurant but very busy when we went for a Sunday evening dinner. We had a variety of food: pineapple fried rice (I asked for a vegetarian version), red curry with chicken, red curry with vegetables, pad see ewe. I think this restaurant is just not for me. The first time we went I tried the basil chicken stir fry, which is what I always order at a Thai restaurant I try for the first time. I didn't like it, so I tried a slightly different version this time and I didn't care for it either. It has a high heat level, but still seemed tasteless and a little fermented? This unassuming hole in the wall is known to serve some pretty amazing Thai food. The interior had a classic, old fashioned vibe with wooden chairs and a long dining hall style table in the center. They have plenty of indoor seating options but it does fill up around dinner time. Take out is also available! The crab rangoons were very crispy on the outside and filled with a creamy mixture of crab meat inside. It was a good app to share and start with. It also comes with a sweet sauce to dip. The Tom yum talay was a spicy seafood soup with mushroom. The soup came with lots of mussels, squid, and shrimp. I got 3/5 spice and it had a little kick at the end. The broth was a little on the sweeter side and missing the sourness that I was expecting. It does cost a lot more than other soups but the portion was also very big. The pad see eaw was very flavorful! The spice level (3/5) was definitely enough for me and the Chinese broccoli added a nice texture. The noodles were a little too soft but still had some chewiness to it. You can choose your protein so I chose the chicken and it was tender. The portion was big enough to share as well. Service is a bit slow since they are a mom and pop shop and there is only one person cashing out and serving, but the server was very friendly. The chicken broccoli wasn't the best. It had a nice light sauce but the broccoli wasn't fresh. After a few days, it gave off a bad smell. Regardless, I'll come back! The takeout process is easy and order was ready right on time. Chicken cashew nuts was probably the best I have ever had. It had pineapple and string beans, which really elevated the flavor. Tom kha soup was rich and creamy. Steamed rice was nutty and perfectly cooked. The least successful dish was the drunken noodles. Noodles had a gummy texture that was unappealing and it just lacked flavor. Spice level 1 is very mild here. Almost too mild. We went to our usual Thai favorite on Refugee Rd, but it is still only open for take-out. Desiring a sit-down option, I checked my trusty Yelp app and we were immediately directed to this nearby gem. How had I never known about Erewan before? It is authentic and tasty with both Vietnamese and Thai options in a pleasant environment. We started with Vietnamese fresh rolls with tofu. They were fresh, delicious and the peanut sauce was as good as any I've had. For our main dishes, we both went with noodles. I had the pad see ew and hubby had the Drunken noodles. Both were tasty and filling with fresh ingredients and flavors. I rounded out my meal with a Thai iced tea which was sweet and refreshing. Prices have gone up everywhere, so a meal like this definitely costs more than it used to! We were very happy though and will enjoy the heck out of our leftover noodles. All the food was very flavorful but not what I would call hot. I'd say they were a 6 out of 10. The spring rolls were hot and crispy. They give a sweet, almost fish sauce, for dipping. I approve :) the Tom Yum was pretty good, but I thought it could be more sour! I was most excited for the chicken pad Thai, but it wasn't the best one I've ever had. It didn't have that tamarind oomph to it that I was expecting. The portions are huge though! My favorite was probably the bamboo shoots with pork, although there wasn't enough bamboo shoots in my opinion. Lots of pork though!! It came with a little bowl of rice! Food never disappoints, been going here for years now and my go to is always their ocean seafood pineapple fried rice (shown in the pic). For some reason, I was really really craving Thai food one random Monday afternoon. That is when I decided to go to Bangkok Thai to get some food with a friend. Little did I know, they're closed on Mondays! Well, we already drove 20 minutes to get to Refugee Rd, there's no way we were going home without satisfying my craving! The space is very small, with plants scattered about, and there were no customers inside. Given we were the only guests, service was very quick. I ordered a masaman curry with chicken and a pad see eaw with beef (I was hungry, ok?) and both really hit the spot. There was a good amount of spice in the food which I preferred. If anything, the curry was a bit on the sweet side and the pad see eaw was a bit wetter than I'd like. Anyways, looking beyond my nitpicks, the food was excellent. Portion sizes were great too, and I got to take a bunch of food home for a second meal. The prices were good and affordable as well, so that's a double-win in my book.
