Don't let the strip mall fool you. Some of the best food joints are found here and the same goes for this little gem. I ordered a yellow curry, spice level 4 (out of 5) with jasmine rice and a water. The food looked, smelled, and tasted delicious. Great depth of flavor in the curry and the chicken was freshly cooked in it. The potatoes were done nicely and the broccoli inside maintained some texture and wasn't mushy. It's a very small, hole-in-the-wall kind of place, so plan to take-out instead of eat in. The man who took my order was polite and courteous and he checked on me while I ate to ensure I was satisfied with my meal. I rate a 5, despite my personal food preferences. The yellow curry was perfectly spicy, but a touch too sweet (again, my personal taste). Overall flavor was FANTASTIC and the portion was perfect (I ordered a small). read more

Excellent. I mean, just excellent. Located in a rundown strip mall, it is tiny, with just three little tables. Clean and comfy enough to eat there, but I'm sure most business is to go. The menu is also small, but absolutely packed with interesting items. I love Thai food, and most of it was familiar, but a few things I'd never seen. I got pad see ew, small portion, with pork. Also a fresh roll, and a steamed bun. And every single thing was outstanding. The bun was doughy, filled with seasoned meat, and just an incredible appetizer. The fresh roll was also great- lettuce, pork (or chicken if you want,) carrots, etc., in a translucent wrap. Served with a great peanut sauce. And the pad see ew, one of my favorite Thai dishes, was perfect: soft wide noodles, tender meat, tasty sauce, a few veggies and bits of egg. I asked for medium since you never know how hot "hot" will be. It had a bit of zip, was very flavorful, but I could have gone hotter. No pop, just water and Thai tea. But man, that tea: cold, sweet, creamy, delicious. No, it's not a fancy place. But the food is the star here. If I had something like this nearby, I'd be in every week, if not more often. A little place that serves home cooked Thai food with very substantial portion. Both soup and curry are their "smaller" portion option and they are easily 2-3 times the size I am used to. Good value. The flavor hit the spot, both really good tasting that keeps you wanting to keep eating. However, I suspect they are catering to more North American taste bud, they are a bit heavy handed in their use of sugar... after a bit I do feel a bit overwhelmed by the sweetness. This is a new place in town, so I've been told. I was it town for work and was looking for something good to eat. Found this on little place on Yelp. I have an affinity for asian food, so this was right up my alley. I ordered drunken noodles and some sweet bbq pork buns. It was ready pretty quickly and off to my hotel I went. I didn't eat in as I had just driven up from Tennessee and just wanted to chill in my hotel room. Plus, the place is pretty small inside, maybe two or 3 tables, tops. Not much to look at inside really. When I got to my room and settled in, the food was still nice and hot. I asked for a slightly medium heat and phew, it was spicy. Really good though. The sauce was good, and the flavor was intense. The buns were nice and soft and chewy and the bbq pork had a great flavor, not too sweet. I really enjoyed this meal. Usually a 30 minute wait for carry out which is really the only way you want to eat Bam Sai's food since it's a small place and extremely warm inside due to those woks firing up. The food is excellent. When I first moved to Newark I ate here twice a week. Servings are generous. I can stretch my carry out over two days. The spice level is between 0-10 and I usually get 4 which is pretty spicy. Curry is somewhat watery (which I like) although my son does not. Vegetables are fresh or frozen (I assume), not canned. Owners are super friendly and know what they are doing. Highly recommend. read more

Authentic, delicious. Ban Sai is a husband and wife business with the kitchen run by the wife who operated a food stand in Bangkok for 15 years. The dishes are made from scratch and flavoring authentic. The standard dishes we've tried (Pad Thai, Tom Yum soup, curries) have a more nuanced flavoring compared to the usual American Thai restaurant fare. Even the wonton soup has a home made broth with wontons made by hand. Seating is very limited (three 2-tops) and with one person running the kitchen, it's a good idea to call ahead for take out orders during busy hours. Keep in mind the spiciness scale is THAI spicy. My mom & I just ordered both Chicken and Shrimp Pad Thai. Both of ours was DELICIOUS. The crushed peanuts & the red sauce the noodles were cooked in was absolutely fabulous. Neither of us could finish the food because they give you such a generous portion. The food was ready right on time. I had to wait out in my car because I had cold items that needed to have the air on, the man working the counter actually came out to the car & motioned me inside when the food was ready. Amazing! This place is a little gem for the area. It's a quaint little place that is ran by a guy and his wife who cooked street food in Bangkok. Since she is Thai the food is true to Thai spicy, so loving spice like I do it was perfect for me, but a high number would probably melt your face off. Very disappointing. We usually go to Royal Thai in Heath, but decided to try this as it was closer to home. The food had very little flavor and zero spice, even though we had asked for the highest spice level. The vegetables also seemed overcooked and mushy. My husband & I have driven past this place a dozen times. We like Thai and have considered stopping before, but finally stopped past. A delightful whole in the wall. Don't plan on eating in. It's meant to be a take-out place, but it's well worth it. We ordered the wonton soup, which was had chicken wontons, snow peas, carrots, not the kind you'd get at other Asian restaurants, but still familiar and warm. Then we had the sala bao, buns stuffed bbq pork. I chose the sweet and was surprised by how well the sweet worked with the pork. My husband chose the spicy and he was equally happy. I'm not a fan of bread and was pleased with the bun to meat ratio. Then entrees, my husband gets pad Thai every time we discover a new Thai place and judges a place on the quality. He found it nicely spicy and loved the freshness of the flavor. I picked the pad woo sen and again was happy with the glass noodles, a nice, smooth texture, good spice blend. Of course, we also ordered the Thai tea. I love Thai tea and have tried to make it at home. This is a classic Thai tea, red tea, a bit too sweet, creamy milk flavor. Love, love, loved it. Visited Ban Sai last night for the first time. Picked up an order of the sweet & spicy Bao (delicious steamed buns filled with BBQ pork) and 2 summer rolls (chicken & pork) with peanut dipping sauce.
