Folks, the food here is excellent with generous portions and value pricing. The cooks are obviously well trained and care about the food they serve. The servers are fast and friendly as well. There's both American Chinese, Thai and Authentic Chinese dishes to choose from. Chef Chen and May run a good business, so you'll have a hard time finding a better value anywhere else. Our first Chinese restaurant that we have tried in Newark and we loved it. The restaurant itself is simple and the play oriental versions of American jazz songs which was great. It feels like a social club of the past which to us was great. The food was absolutely great. I had the chef special Mongolian and thought it was one of the best I have ever had. I have been missing Chef Chen and Lucky Bamboo since they left Columbus.! The food was as delicious as I had hoped it would be! I ordered my favorite Wor Su Gai and it was as yummy as I had expected it to be! I also tried my friends order (can't remember what it is) and it was delicious also! I had Spring Rolls for the first time and was very pleased with their fresh, light taste! The dipping sauce was really wonderful too. The service was really good! Our food was served in a very short amount of time! Lucky Bamboo is a very open restaurant and it was very busy but never felt crowded. The restaurant is decorated with very nice Chinese decorations. It is nicely done and not overly done. As we were leaving, we saw one of the employees who had been working at the Columbus restaurant! It was a great surprise to see her! first and foremost, the staff friendly when I order on the phone and when I picked it up, but I spent $42 on food that I wound up not eating because it was utterly disgusting. There's also a long bar and the required TVs behind it, but people come here for the food. Aside from the usual's, there's excellent Thai curries to choose from; I personally have not found one I do not like. There's no choice in heat level, but dishes are marked spicy if it applies. Lucky Bamboo 2 was our go-to in Columbus, and we were sad when they left. When I realized we'd be near the one in Newark yesterday, we decided to stop in. Same food, same friendly family, same great service and prices. We didn't see Chef Chen, and saw his wife briefly but she was busy. They always greeted us at the Columbus one, and I'm sure they would have here if they had been out front. Sweetie says we're pretty recognizable. I say it's just that Baby K is cute. Sweetie had broccoli chicken, I had General Tso's, and Baby K had chicken fingers and fries. I didn't taste Sweetie's or the fries, but they both loved them. I had some of the chicken fingers, and they were not frozen sticks but actual chicken, breaded and fried, as you might find in sweet and sour chicken. Tender, crispy on the outside, and very good. My General Tso's was also a step above the norm for that common dish: very good chicken, fried up crispy, in a sweet and spicy sauce. Also some broccoli mixed in, big fresh pieces. Ate here for the first time today via GrubHub because I was craving Chinese food and my regular place is closed. I was absolutely amazed at how good this food was. I got the teriyaki chicken which was so crispy and they thankfully packaged the sauce separate. The egg rolls were fantastic and crab Rangoon were huge and stuffed full! Found this restaurant in Newark browsing through Yelp for ideas and it was amazing. I had the Tofu Pad Thai noodles and had the Happy Family which was beef, pork, chicken and shrimp with veggies in a brown sauce. Sooo good! The eggrolls seemed to be homemade which was a plus and also had the crab Rangoon which was great! It was happy hour when we arrived I think it was 3 to 7 PM and you get a dollar off a beer. We've missed the old location of Lucky Bamboo 2 on Karl Rd. in Columbus, but were excited to learn that Chef Chen still ran his original location, Lucky Bamboo, in Newark, OH. When we were at our doctor's location in Newark, we were talking about the wonderful smell of Chinese food that wafted through the hallways. Our doctor and the staff told us it was from Lucky Bamboo in town. Our doctor turned his computer screen around to face us and looked up the address and there it was. So, upon finishing there, we decided to have lunch at Lucky Bamboo and surprise Chef Chen with a visit before returning to Columbus. As we drove up to the restaurant, the parking lot was packed (always a good sign for a restaurant.) Walking inside, May, a server from LB2 in Columbus, greeted us and queried, "What are you guys doing here?" We told her that we'd come to see her and Chef Chen and have a good Chinese dinner. She excitedly laughed and said that she was glad to see us, but sadly said that the Chef wasn't there just now. She took us to our table and we sat at familiar tables in a spotlessly clean, very well lit, cheery, relaxing, long dining room; lush with bamboo plants. She confirmed our usual drink orders and said they'd be right out. Ben, our server, soon came to our table and gave us each a menu. It seemed to be the identical menu that he'd brought to Lucky Bamboo 2, but glanced at the menu just to be certain. We ordered our usual crispy, delicious Crab Rangoon (filled full of crab meat, not cream cheese) and my wife's Fried Wonton. We were allowed a choice of either soup or an egg roll with our meal. She ordered Wonton Soup and I ordered Hot and Sour Soup with an Egg Roll. For my wife's entrée; War Su Gai while I had my usual General Tso's Chicken with a little extra spiciness. As we began to eat our main meal, Chef Chen walked through the kitchen door into the main dining area and greeted us with hugs. What a wonderful surprise! (We believe that May, likely called him to let him know we were there because we had planned to just leave a note for him.) He was excited to see us there and he looked great; refreshed, calm and exuberant. He told us running two restaurants just got to be too much for him. After chatting for a bit and pictures, he encouraged us to return to our meal. The General Tso's Chicken was tender, juicy, and flavorful, although I should probably have asked for a little more spice to liven it a bit. Bamboo's steamed rice is never bad; perfect, fluffy, with every grain distinct - never mushy or hard and lumped together. Perfect steamed rice is not as easy as you might think. I've had some pretty nasty rice before. But, this is always on point My wife's War Su Gai was tender, moist and flavorful, but she wants to go back to her Sesame Chicken again next time as an alternative. It was great to find Lucky Bamboo again. I told him that next time we'll have to bring more of the regulars with us. And... we will. I encourage you to take the 30 or so minute drive to Newark and look up Lucky Bamboo. read more

Today I had a special treat! We had a great lunch at Lucky Bamboo in Newark Ohio! We had grown to love this restaurant when they had a restaurant on Karl Road in Columbus! We had adopted the staff there and since we were there, I decided we were having our lunch there, if I could find it! Thankfully that was easy to do! As we walked in, we were surprised to see the waitress from the Karl Rd. location! Ming was as surprised to see us and we were surprised to see her! And then Chef Chen came in and we had a great short visit! I was so happy to see that my choices from the menu were as tasty as they had been at Lucky Bamboo 2! We ordered on Uber Eats. The sealed bag included 1/2 of our order and the two main entrees were incorrect. Not even close, but the soup, wontons and Rangoon were correct. How does that happen?
