Sorry, not impressed. I ordered the won ton soup, which was bland and the won tons were completely destroyed. Also, it took a long time to come out and I was starving. I also ordered Pad Thaii - my go-to when it's my first time at a Thai place so it can set the future standard. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I expect my Pad Thai to be made with RICE NOODLES, not some bullshit spaghetti noodles. Now, feel free to argue with me and tell me it's authentic - I don't care. I'm on a low gluten diet, which is why I chose a dish that in 99% of other Thai places is made with freaking rice noodles!! The flavor was lack-luster at best. And there was very little other than noodles in the dish (eg. onion, peanuts, cilantro.... just plain noodles). I was incredibly disappointed. The owner is clearly a very nice person, unfortunately, if you read other reviews, this restaurant is all over the map. Please don't waste your money here. Go to Thai Pot Cafe on Colorado and I-25. Stopped in here hoping this would be a hidden gem of delicious Thai cuisine, but alas it is the worst I have ever had in my life. The "Pad Thai" had absolutely no flavor or sauce and was made with spaghetti noodles and pre cooked shrimp. The chef/owner said it was authentic Thai and that real pad Thai doesn't have peanut sauce, but apparently it doesn't have flavor either... My boyfriend got the sweet and sour chicken which was ok, but only because it's really hard to screw up fried chicken bites. I left a full plate, which is something I never do. Erawan should be a Denver landmark. Be prepared to wait a long time for food that on the surface isn't terribly impressive. Erawan is a very special place run by a very special guy. The food is very simple and is really more like what I would imagine the average Thai american family really sits down to at the dinner table. This is a truly authentic feel of Thai food and I am a huge supporter of Erawan. He is in the kitchen every day and night cooking this amazing food. It is consistent and I love the phud Thai with chicken. I also love the soup and he makes each batch from scratch. I get mine Thai hot but I love spicy food and you can get a side of white rice to balance it out if too hot. The Vietnamese style fried rice is so good. It has some sauce that has a vinegar base and jalapeños. This is so good and unique. His sticky rice is good and he has Mango when in season and he has been here forever it seems. I walk there and pick it up and I do lots of take out as well there is a spot to park out front to run in and grab your food too. This is a one man show here and he occasionally has one person helping but rarely. I love his Erawan Tidbits (appetizer platter)and the sauce he makes to go with is some mustard honey tasting yumminess. Thank you Erawan for always being there! I tried Erawan with a coworker for the first time today. We actually went because we knew they had a Chinese menu and weren't in the mood for Thai. The chef was confused and slightly insulted by our menu choices, and we had to promise to order Thai next time. Back to the chef-- he's a pretty awesome one man business. He's the host, cook, and server, and friendly and talented to boot. My friend is gluten-free, and after some confusion he was able to answer her questions and guide her to safe choices. In the end, she had chow mein with tofu and without soy sauce, and said it was pretty good. She had more options with the Thai menu, but doesn't like coconut milk curry and wasn't feeling noodles. I had the egg foo young with pork. The sauce wasn't as brown as I'm used to, but had great flavor, and the egg was cooked perfectly. It's a little slow, but seems how it's a one man show, you can't complain. I'll be back, and I'll order off the Thai menu as promised. read more

Pros: Cute decor and nice staff Cons: *Phud Kyey Mao was made with 2/3 bean sprouts and 1/3 rice noodles, and it was supposed to come with veggies but there was only a few pieces of carrots and celery. *Phud thai (original) was made with spaghetti noodles and a ton of bean sprouts. Not sure if it would have been better if we had the other phud thai with rice noodles. It was really cheap, but I'd rather go to a more expensive place to get more than bean sprouts! read more

I was having a challenging day and looking to try some good new thai food, I chose Erawan because its close to my house and I had heard pretty good things about it. I drove up to it and there was no parking so I went down the alley labeled One Way (going north) and turned right (east) into their parking lot. this was met with a bunch of parking spaces slanted in such a way that it was impossible to actually park without much effort, even though I was directed to this lot by their signs. I eventually parked and went inside. The place is beautiful and a lovely asian (potentially thai) woman greeted me and gave me a menu. I got my hopes up because she was so nice and I really prefer to support local businesses. I ordered pad thai because its the dish I gauge most thai places on since it seems quite simple to make and pretty standard. When I got home and opened the box my heart sank. There were no shredded carrots and I found only one whole peanut. The noodles, and there were very few, were covered in this weird paste which was dark brown (not the orangish brown of most places) and there was maybe 2 pieces of chicken with no scrambled egg. There were, however, plenty of bean sprouts. Basically I got a huge container of brown-paste covered bean sprouts with a carrot stick on the side. I was hungry and didn't want to waste the food so I tried a bite. It was exactly as awful as it looked. While it did have flavor, it wasn't a good or even recognizable flavor, though it was somewhat reminiscent of what would happen if you took a r amen packet flavored like Drunken Noodles and put it, with no liquid, all over some wilty bean sprouts. In all, I would say this was a huge waste of my time and money, and that's saying a lot. This was about 6 times less good than frozen pad thai. I was very disappointed. read more

I Love this place!!!! I have been eating here for over 20 years and I can't get enough. This authentic thai food is the best I have had, so don't waste your time at swing thai around the corner. Art the owner is a sweet old man that waits on you then goes back and prepares all the food himself. The prices are very reasonable and the food is excellent! I have tried it all from the panang to the curry but I keep going back for the pad thai. Go in with an open mind and a hungry stomach, It is after all a one man show and you have to be patient when it's busy. But it is worth the wait. I have been eating at the Erawan since 1980 and I love it. Not only is Art your host, owner, cook and server but he is one of the most authentic Thai chiefs in Denver. Unlike other Thai places where they have Americanized the menu, to please our timid palates, Art is an artist. Having taken many, many friends there over the years and even having large get together in his cozy place, you will find no better authentic Thai in Denver. The vegetarian egg rolls that he makes are sublime. (We have even ferreted them to my dad when he was in the hospital.) The Phad Thai is authentic and not what Americans have come to think of Phad Thai thanks to fast food Thai places. The temperature of the food is spicy hot and you will leave satisfied and happy. If you want a truly authentic Thai place run by the sweetest man in the food service industry...this is the place for you! read more

This restaurant has long been our standard for the worst food--not just Thai food--any food. We went here enthusiastically many years ago and were served the most unappetizing slop. Mushy half spoiled carrots and bamboo shoots tasting of tin can in some mystery brown sauce. Those decaying carrots stick forever in my mind. We were unable to eat but a few bites of the meal--and I was genuinely worried that we might get sick from the bits we did eat. I am amazed this place is still in business. Such a letdown. I've driven by this place dozens of times over the years, and finally had a chance to stop in. I wish I hadn't now. The food was just so lacking. My pad thai was spaghetti pasta, cut down to two-inch size, with little egg, small pieces of meat, and some oily blandness covering it all. It was all the same color, every single ingredient. My fried rice was soggy, and tasted of nothing but cooking oil. Very disappointed. Stumbled across Erawan by accident, and I'm thrilled I did! We were one of two tables and it was pretty sleepy. Art took care of us, and was the one man show that day! He served our table, then went back and cooked all of the food. We had the Thai Delight (Dumplings), Sweet and Sour Soup, and the Green Curry. Both the dumplings and the soup were lackluster, but the Green Curry was perfect! We ordered it medium heat, and it actually was. So often the heat scale at Thai restaurants varies greatly and is either not spicy at all, or WAY too spicy. But this was the perfect amount of heat, balanced with just enough coconut and basil. If a Thai restaurant can't figure out that Pad Thai is made with rice noodles the. They need to change their style of food to: Asian with trailer trash fusion. I'm torn. The little man who owns this restaurant is just so darn cute, and gosh, you just want to support his business just because he's nice. However the food? Meh. I have certainly had better. It was kind of sad looking to be honest when it arrived at our table. Had green curry and drunken noodles...The curry was the better of the two, but by no means was it one of the best I've ever had. I ordered dinner for carryout; shrimp Phud Thai and a vegetable egg roll. The egg roll was cut into smaller pieces so I could see that there was basically nothing inside the fried outer layer, just one piece of cabbage. And the Phud Thai was essentially spaghetti with a bit of cabbage and 4 small shrimp. It lacked flavor and texture. I'm disappointed because this place is close to my house and I was eager to try "Denver's oldest Thai restaurant." The reason I'm giving it two stars is because there is literally just one person doing it all- he took my call, made the food, and handled the cash register. read more

I feel like I've been driving by Erawan Cafe for years. And apparently that is true since it's been there since 1979! I feel like it must have been the first Thai restaurant ever in Denver. Anyway this place is so cute I can barely stand it. The owner, who looks like he has been around for a very long time, is adorable. He is so old! And yet he putters all around and does everything - host, waiter, busboy, chef. I don't think he speaks a ton of English but he speaks enough to get by. And he is a marvel of productivity, my goodness. I feel like generally I am a productive person who can do a lot at once but he really makes me feel like a slug! Anyway as far as the food goes, well, it did taste good. I had Pad Thai, which is my standard order at every Thai restaurant. This was very different and yet did have the signature Pad Thai flavor I have come to expect. It was reasonably spicy, which I appreciate, because I feel that at many restaurants when I say I want my food Hot they say oh okay you cute little girl, and then they make it mild. The noodles were very different - they tasted and looked like spaghetti noodles rather than the wide, flat rice noodles I expected. But they were tasty. Considering that it's a one man operation, the service was extremely quick. So that was great. And surprising! I would definitely go back and I'd probably try something else just to get a sense of the different dishes. But considering that going to Erawan Cafe would necessitate driving on Colorado Boulevard, the worst street in the world, it would take some convincing. The owner Erawan really makes this place. He's the cutest old man who served us with a smile and some stories of his past. The food was very good and seemed just like what you'd get at your Thai grandmother's home... if you had one. There's nothing too fancy about it though, so if you're in the mood for over the top or lots of food, it might not be the place for you. We really wanted to like this place. We love Swing Thai, but we also loved the idea of a small local restaurant that had been around for decades. Our first trip, the food was good but the owner / cook / waiter gave me chicken instead of tofu. I ate around the chicken, not wanting to fuss. On our second trip, he again gave me chicken instead of tofu, and when we told him that the dish had been mis-prepared, he lectured us on "ordering better" and "speaking more clearly", telling us that he always took orders correctly. He's older and perhaps has a hearing issue, so we tried a third time, this time ordering pad thai (one country, one regular) and asking him to repeat the order. This time, the food came with tofu, but the pad thai came with cut up spaghetti rather than rice noodles. Very disappointing. Bottom line: we'd like to support our local businesses, but this place isn't worth it. read more

I went with some hopes, as Erawan has been open for 30 years, and lots of people raved about it. Unfortunately both I and my friend left hungry and unimpressed. My panang curry was tasty (lime leaf in anything tastes good), but not the thick coconut sauce I was hoping for. My friend's dish, some kind of tofu with vegetables, was pedestrian. Service was ok, but we were the only ones in the place for the entire hour we sat, so no one else to compete for the owner/cook/waiter/(dishwasher)'s attention, as I read was a problem for others. Portions were substandard, and we both left hungry. So overall, disappointing. read more

I used to go to Erawan Cafe every now-and-again when I worked in Cherry Creek. Even though they serve authentic Thai food, I only liked one item on the menu (but I really really liked it!) - the white fish pranang curry. First off, the food is amazing...but, well, hold up. We walked into this place with 1 man sitting at a table near the front, with his date freshening up or something. The table next to the entrance had dishes from a previous couple...the rest of the place was bare. One old guy finally came out and gave us menus, then rushed off...eventually another couple trickles in...tea & water did not come out until after the food was ordered, and we were already there for 10 long minutes before we got menus. The food took long enough that my hot tea was luke warm by the time it made it out to us...it was so delicious, I had the pineapple shrimp curry, an appetizer sampler, and my friend ordered spicy ginger shrimp. all of which was just a delight. It took another long wait to pay the bill, one couple stormed out...one couple of guys ordered carry-out, the place does not advertise carry-out but at least these orderers were preventing another table from getting cluttered (the original used table had still not been bused). The place is great, though they are short on help, the food is amazing, but timing can make your experience terrible, I am certainly grateful that we showed up the time we did. read more

New favorite Thai place in Denver!! The incredibly welcoming owner took our orders and cooked our food. He was so informative and accommodated my friend's vegan & vegetarian needs. I had the Fish Panang Curry and it was seriously to DIE for!!! It was very obvious everything is made from scratch. Plus, he's been running this place for 40 YEARS! He checked on us frequently and left our hearts and bellies smiling. Not impressed. I wanted to like this place. Wanted to. Will not be back. The service was some of the worst I've ever experienced, and slow. We were there for at least 20 minutes before we even got water. No, I'm not exaggerating. Yes, I can respect that it's a one-man band and the food was authentic, but the food was pretty good at best. Just because it's "authentic" doesn't mean it's amazing. Plus, if you're running a restaurant, an ounce of acting like it is expected. The appetizers were really good (they were fried crab cheese wontons and dumplings). If I just wanted snacks/appetizers to-go from here and I had 30 minutes to wait for the order, perfect. I do not suggest eating-in. One example: We asked for small plates for the multiple appetizers we ordered for the multiple people at our table, and were told "No" because then there would be no plates for anyone else. Uhmm... ok. I would understand that if you were busy. It's Friday night, and not a single other soul came in the place while we were there (about 2 hours). Makes me concerned about the cleanliness of the kitchen area if they can't keep enough clean dishes on hand to serve folks (even when it's not busy). Authentic? Yes. Worth it? No. read more

We decided to eat out instead of cooking in because my friend and I were on a time crunch and wanted to spend our time catching up. 1. So slow. The people sitting behind us had to ask to place their order. And this is not because it was busy. 2. Food not worth the wait. - I ordered the crab cheese wonton and it was all shitty wonton, with the tiniest little bit of crab cheese in maybe two of the wontons. It was just flaky crap. -My shrimp pineapple curry was actually gross. I am very far from a picky eater - I like just about anything. And this was nasty. My curry was watery and the pineapple was clearly from a can. I tried one of the shrimp and spit it out immediately because it was very bad tasting. I will definitely not be returning. read more

I love Erewan. Great food and great authentic Thai atmosphere. The owner/chef makes me and my friends feel like we are personal guests at his home every time we go in, which I find it charming and endearing. The crab cheese wontons are unlike those at any other restaurant in town. Rolled by hand each has it's own unique shape and are deliciously crispy. He adds spicy mustard to the sauce and it adds a nice kick to this normally sweet sauce. I've had a lot of dishes here and have not found one I don't like. All around great place! read more

I really really wanted to like this place. The owner was extremely nice and it's within walking distance from us. We ordered the pad Thai and the dumplings. The pad Thai was cooked with spaghetti like noodles, which I was not a fan of. I have not had true pad Thai so this may be the traditional way, just not my cup of tea. The shrimp was overcooked and extremely bland. Portion was super small also compared to other local Thai places. The dumplings were actually pretty tasty with the sauce, but not tasty enough to kick the rating up. We may go back for the curry, which seems popular amount the reviews, so I will update if we do. read more

Like Julie we have been eating with Art for over 30 years. No other Thai like it. Always amused when people don't like the food because it was not what they "expected". Didn't like Pad Thai until we came here and now no other will do. They may be spaghetti noodles, but they are the best we have ever had. If you think it is spaghetti with black pepper then order it medium or hot. Those of us who are natives remember when it was hard to get in and out on your lunch hour because of the crowds. Medical center moved and the business flow has changed, but don't let that cheat you out of great and unique Thai food. If you want Thai that is like everyone else in town suggest you go around the corner to Swing Thai. Sadly we live out of town and can't come by often, but love Art's food.
