The Equator Blend was my introduction to Equator Coffee and it was love at first taste. Even my husband who is so picky about coffee immediately raved about the coffee. I went into purchase more coffee and the service I received was top notch! They blended the beans based on what coffee maker I had at home. The super nice staff also gave recommendations on other blends I would like based on the Equator Blend. The get their shipments twice a week and they do sell their product quickly so if you have a favorite make sure you go when they get their shipments- Tuesday and Thursday for the Larkspur store. I've been drinking Equator coffee, since I used to manage a coffee shop in the city and boyy its been keeping me wired ever since! They've got tons of options for whole beans and very delicious my personal favorite the nicaraguan blend, medium roast beans with a nice frothy mixture to it. I'm so greatful to have this coffee shop in my neighborhood because there were no other options besides Rullis down the street, aka not my favoite place to hang. This Equator is really small but they a very cute out door seating area which hopefully you do go and its not raining. Not much of the place you would take your laptop and work, its more of a grab and go spot. The staff are very friendly and accomodating to your needs. I know they have tons of milk options so if youre that one person who needs a specific type, they just may have it! Did I mention beer and wine? yes they serve it and also have a happy hour for it! found this spot by chance driving through larkspur looking for a pit stop and a dog friendly coffee shop. I was so happy to see this is the same roaster that's at the Fort Mason Center in SF! they have a super pretty outdoor space. we stopped by when it was fairly close to closing so we were only able to get our coffee to-go but they were fine letting us hang out outside on the patio which made for a really nice afternoon. I don't drink coffee, and I'm not a tea connoisseur, but I really enjoyed my iced chai latte experience here today. The weather was perfect, so we were able to sit outside under an umbrella for hours with friends. The iced chai latte was delicious, and everyone seemed to be enjoying their food and beverages also. I'm so excited that there is a new Equator in Larkspur! It's my favorite coffee shop in Marin and the new location is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood shopping area. I was in town this past weekend and was able to attend the grand opening celebration with a friend. For their grand opening, Equator generously offered their entire drink menu free of cost throughout the day. I ordered an iced americano and I was happy to learn that at this location they offer cashew milk instead of almond milk. Cashew milk makes for a very creamy drink and it's a nice change of pace from almond milk. They also have a range of sweeteners from homemade simple syrup to stevia if you enjoy your beverage on the sweeter side. The customer service at the Larkspur location is wonderful. The staff is very friendly, and they prepared our drinks quickly despite the line. At the register they offer a number of snacks from a few of my favorite local business such as Urban Remedy, MH Bread and Butter, as well as a delicious selection of sandwiches, yogurt parfaits, cheese plates, granola bars, and other tasty treats. To be fair I did go to the shop at a busy hour (8AM) however I did end up waiting about 15 minutes to receive my coffee and pastry. I ordered a vanilla latte and a carrot muffin. Although I ordered a vanilla latte I realized once I was already in my car that I was given a peppermint mocha. The small coffee looks like an extra small..the muffin was really good. I gave Equator another try today. I got a decaf latte, which was really good for decaf. (I'm temporarily off caffeine). I was also hungry and was all ready to complain about the price and sparsity of pastries when I bought my $5 old-fashioned donut (which I think is more expensive than Johnny's). Then I bit into it. This was--no exaggeration--the best doughnut of my life. I don't even know how to describe it. Tender inside texture like a New England farm apple cider doughnut. Crisp edges. Best coffee I've ever had! I never understood what "good coffee" truly meant until I tried Equator. This is my husband and my favorite spot on Saturday and Sunday morning. The staff and patrons are friendly, there are lots of adorable pups and families outside, and it's an added plus that they bring in the BEST breakfast tacos from Early Bird. During shelter in place their app + curbside pick-up has been executed flawlessly. We order 3-5x a week and place our order when we leave our house and it's always ready for us outside once we arrive. Definitely the best cup of coffee (not espresso!) in Marin right now. Peets is dethroned for me; Equator staff make smooth, delicious coffee that strikes the right balance between lightest and darkest roasts. It's true this location gets crazy busy--I avoid it on weekends, for the most part. They serve breakfast tacos on Saturdays, though, that are phenomenal, so that's worth the line, I guess. I had a lot of hope for this place because of the good reviews. However, the service was terrible. I ordered an iced mocha with light ice and was given a cup filled with giant ice cubes. When I asked for less ice, the barista took the drink and spilled out the ice along with the coffee, filled it up with milk, and slid it towards me spilling it in the process. While I know that drink modifications can be a pain, light ice isn't that complicated and it didn't warrant that kind of treatment. Jk the coffee will make sure you won't be falling asleep. On a hot day try their affogato! Yum! Only downside is there's tons of traffic in front of the store on Magnolia Ave. Not sure if it's only like that around rush hour. There's limited street parking. There's also a parking lot in the back but most of it is occupied for valet for Perry's restaurant. A block or two down from Equator there's a public parking lot. Since the pandemic, they have been so slow. I'm talking about 15-20 minutes slow. And the pre-order is a huge hassle. And when a customer comes in to the store and orders a coffee, they have to wait 5-10 minutes, while there are numerous online orders ahead of you. So the online orders sit there getting cold while an in person customer who wants coffee has to get in line of the already programmed online orders that no one is picking up. If you say, "well then order your coffee online", I say, I don't want to. I don't plan that far in advance. I want o walk in, order my coffee and get handed my coffee. It's a terrible system for getting coffee in real time, and for keeping customers. I want to support local businesses, but not if I have to wait a ridiculous amount of time. Find a better system. As a fellow coffee snob, I strive to find the best roasters around. Equator Coffee definitely makes the list. They are a local company from San Rafael (right across the Golden Gate Bridge) so it's no wonder the amount of support they recieve, but it's completely warrented, as they hit all of my important check-marks: inredible coffee, delicious pastries and excellent customer service. This Larkspur location is the newest addition to thier growing business as they now have quite a few stores spanning all over the Bay Area. This location one will no doubt be special, because it has that small town feeling where you gather up with friends, bring your dog and enjoy a nice cup of coffee. Downtown Larkspur was in need of a new coffee shop, as it really only has one other place to grab a legit cup of joe. That explains why the Grand Opening had a line out the door and a bunch of smiles filled with excitement. Let's get to the good stuff: On my latest visit, I ordered a cup of coffee, an espresso and two pastries: the almond crossaint & the berry scone. If you're wondering why I ordered a cup of coffee and an espresso, the first 5 words of this review (coffee snob here). I already knew I loved their coffee. It'd the same coffee that Bouchon Bakery in Yountville uses and that was when I first fell in love with this brew. So yes, paying a bit of a higher pricepoint is completely worth it. The espresso was perfection. Need I say more? The pastries? The alomond crossaint was one of the best I've ever had. All in all, this spot bring a new sense of community to an area that already has a strong community feeling. This only adds to it. I've never written a Yelp review before, but wanted to share my recent experience at Equator with you. Such a lovely atmosphere, it's a tiny shop but perfect for the location. Great outdoor seating space, cute plaza. The coffee is excellent, probably the best in the area. The workers are always pleasant, the baristas are very knowledgeable. It was very busy. I was there on a sat, 2 high school aged girls and 2 20-something gentlemen, and a older women. The younger girls ran the register and bussed out coffees and gentlemen were making the coffees. The girl at the register was very sweet, soft spoken. The girl bussing out the coffees was very kind and helpful when I didn't hear my name being called. There was a mixup on an order and the shop ran out of avocados, unfortunately. It happens. But the manager on duty said it was because her employees didn't tell her they had run out. And was a bit rude, in my opinion.I thought this was odd, seeing as it's her shop. I didn't give my review 5 stars solely because of the experience with the manager.
