Walked in to this establishment wanting to get a take out pie and the woman behind the counter said they couldn't do takeout because they were busy. WOW,!! I thought Ama was pretty good and I'll go back if they do something about the fly problem. I was there later in the week (last week) when the weather finally cooled down a little bit, and they had a few of the large, door-sized windows (that open to the street), pushed open to let the pleasant, cooler air in BUT.... without any screens on the windows the place became loaded with flies! Disgusting! If I choose to sit outside, I expect to continually swat flies away during the entire meal, but not while I'm dining inside! Just gross. Our server was very nice, though, and said he would love to close those window-doors, but the owner will get upset with him if he does that! Our apps - the Carne Mista and the Caprino - along with our Tartufata pizza was definitely very tasty (although the cracker-thin pizza dough was burned a little underneath) and I'd have given better rating if the fly problem had not been such a distraction! read more

I went to Ama last night and loved it! The ambiance was lovely, we sat outside and were able to enjoy the sunset, but could still see some of the action of the wood burning stove. We ordered the carpaccio and a cesare salad to start- both were excellent. The carpaccio was excellent, it practically melted in your mouth. We then shared a figura pizza, which was also great. The pizza crust was perfect, thin and crispy! These three dishes were plenty for the two of us to share. The food reminded me of being in an Enoteca in Firenze! I have to also rave about our waiter, Zach. He was so helpful and kind, and a pleasure to meet. We will definitely come back, for the food and the great service! read more

I would give this place a 3.5 if possible. Today was our first time here, they offer white and red personal sized pizzas. Each pizza is thin crust, but a decent size. We tried the meat balls as a starter which I really enjoyed. We shared the quattro and the prosciutto pizza. I liked the quattro pizza a lot but didn't care for the prosciutto pizza. The sauce on the pizza tasted completely unseasoned, the prosciutto pieces were huge slices, they could have been cut smaller. Ambience is ok, not a place you stay and hang for drinks. read more

We had a nice time here and the staff was attentive. We arrived on the early side for dinner and I don't think the ovens were fully fired hot yet. Our pizzas were delicious but they were missing the desirable char and blisters one normally finds on wood-fired artisan pies. So if you prefer the char of artisanal pizza, I'd mention it to them unless you're too hungry to wait like we were :) We're definitely going back soon despite this and it's a very comfortable spot to dine. This is a great addition to Beacon. The space is warm and inviting. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. There are both indoor and outdoor seating options, I have done both and am happy with it. The food is great. These are not your regular pizzas I've had the pizza with prosciutto and arugula and I've also had the tartufetta. The latter was amazing. It is a good size for one person or to share. Doesn't make you overly full. It takes a while to get the pizzas,but the wait staff makes sure that your drinks are full while you wait. The only reason I'm not giving it 1 star is because the serving staff was apologetic and tried to be helpful. The pizza was overpriced and lacked flavor. I got the truffle pizza that had a "spread" of cheese on it but it was majorly lacking. It was like two large crackers with a small dollop of cheese spread. The truffle oil had a nice taste but it was dry and underwhelming, and it was certainly not worth the price. We waited an hour for our food, and when my father-in-law said "we've been waiting like an hour and fifteen minutes", one of the servers came over with the ticket and said "it may feel like an hour and fifteen minutes but it was actually only an hour". I think he was trying to be helpful and alleviate some of the frustration, and I appreciated it, but not everyone in my party felt the same way about the gesture. We received no bread and no on-the-house appetizers to pass the time; nothing at all was done except an explanation that the oven can only cook SIX personal pizzas at once so typically it's a long wait. read more

I really want to give 3.5 stars, but I'll round up to 4. The fennel salad and pizzas were quite good. Taking off 1.5 stars because the food took a long time to come out, but that's expected with a new restaurant I suppose. Our waiter said the pizza would take 20 minutes to come out. The salads took 20 minutes, and the pizza took an additional 20 minutes. I also was not a fan of the orange cafeteria-like chairs. $2.75 for a small 8 oz glass bottle of soda is also a bit steep. At least give us a 12 oz can! So, while I enjoyed the food, there are some things I wasn't crazy about. I'll certainly go back, though. read more

This place is pretty good in person. Unfortunately this is now the second time I've done takeout/pickup and the pizzas are burnt. When I did pickup the food was warm-ish. Went here on a Friday night with a party of 5. Greeted first by Rocky, who was wonderful serving our drinks at the bar. Transitioned off to a table once our entire party got there. Owner was very abrasive - you could tell he runs a tight ship, but isn't amiable or approachable. Granted, it's a busy night, but my husband and I are regulars in many Beacon establishments and we always feel welcome. That's what makes Beacon special. Now onto the food... Food was good. We really enjoyed one of the appetizers - melted mozzarella and tomato with bread. Very delish! The fig pizza was very enjoyable. Would we go back? Visited Enoteca Ama a few weeks ago with family. The room is a little sterile and not very inviting despite the wood fired pizza oven in the center. The staff was very nice and attentive if a little inexperienced. Pizzas were good, with thin, crisp crust and very flavorful toppings. Good renditions of Neopolitan style thin crust pizza. The evening was marred by the owner who insisted on arguing with us over a corked bottle of wine, when we asked for a replacement bottle. Mind you, three in our party have a combined 75 years in the wine business and the bottle was clearly corked. The second bottle was fine, but he insisted on coming over to the table to tell us that the first bottle wasn't corked and that he intended to drink it himself. There's something up with their wood pizza oven. Pizza cooked at a high temp in a wood fired oven doesn't come out like this. If you are expecting puffy nooks, charred edges and deliciously hot melted pizza.... you will be disappointed. AMAs pizza seem to have good ingredients and the components are there but the result is uncharred, crackery with luke-warm crust not cooked properly pizza. My experience at this restaurant was disappointing, lackluster, and could be summarized as an absolute blue balling. The only redeeming quality of the food was that it was hot. The sky-scraping prices of this restaurant was completely undeserved for the quality of the food. What could have been a simple 10 minute dinner at Dominos or pizza hut became a 1 hour and 6 minute wait followed by a 5 minute period of eating. The price of an appetizer, 2 pizzas, 1 panini, and a glass of beer came out to be 68 dollars before tip, and left not a single member of the party satisfied in either taste or fullness. Would not recommend, especially since the interior decoration resembles that of a gimmicky dessert bar. TLDR-I could have eaten three of those 14 dollar pizzas without having to wait 1 hour and 6 minutes if i just went to dominos instead. read more

Enoteca is a nice find. I went there last week with my wife and another couple. We had a cheese board appetizer which was amazing there were four different cheeses, all different, all delicious, all very fresh. The wine selection was pretty good a number of Italian choices. I had something from Calabria and my wife had something from Sicily. It was tasty and we had a second glass. I had the pizza with an egg on top, it sounds a little weird but it was very good. My wife and friends had other choices and we all liked them. We then moved onto home made Gelato... it was the real deal... My only word of caution is if you do not like thin crust pizza this may not be the place for you.... I can't wait to go back. read more

Sadly, I will give this two stars even tho the food deserves more. This wasnt my first time here and I have never had bad food. Unfortunately the service was horrific. The waitress came and dropped off menus and took drink orders promptly, but that is where good service end. We ordered a pizza and a basic salad for dinner. The waitress came back 35 mins later and said she was sorry the food was taking a bit longer and never asked for additional drinks. We waited another another 20 mins and our waitress came back and we asked for the food to go. 10 mins after asking for our food to go our food came, but was dropped off by the manager who seemed cold and didnt apologize for the wait. Our check(Full price for everything) was then dropped off(5mins later) and picked up (7 mins later) without ever seeing our waitress again. We had seen other customers sat down after us and finished meals before we got out food. This is unacceptable. I'm a local and I enjoy the food and dont expect a ton, but unfortunately I will not be visiting this establishment for a while due to the horrific service. They knew full well they messed up and didnt even acknowledge it, We paid full price for the food and left a 5 dollar tip on 44 dollar bill which wasnt even deserved. Not sure I understand some of the negativity being thrown at this place. When they first opened the service was slow, I'll admit, but they found their groove and now they're cranking. The pizza is solidly tasty, though a little inconsistent depending on which night you go (i.e., you might get basil on your whole margherita pizza, or just a few leaves divvied out among the slices - or just one sprig dropped right in the middle of the pizza!, hehe). Thought I would give it another shot because I heard good reviews and the instagram photos of pizza looked really good, way better than what I had the first time. While ordering a to go order, and the person on the phone, Emily I think, was extremely rude. Told me in a bad tone to slow down, corrected me multiple times. How hard is it to be nice on the phone?
