In October, 2017, I contracted with another company who claimed they didn't subcontract, but they did On the day of my move to another State, Encore Moving & Storage arrived to do the move. I had already shipped my car & given up my apt so had no choice. The amount quoted from the original company was not accurate as she didn't include I was moving out of a elevated building & moving into an elevated building which they charge more because of the time. I had more furniture & boxes than estimate than the orinal cimpany quoted to Encore. Fortunately Encore's team leader David Trajillo was able to take the money orders I had & the balance to be paid on arrival in the new State 2,000 miles away. We hired Encore Moving out of Chicago for a move about 50 miles away, in Indiana. There were a couple of glitches, but Desiree and the company worked very hard to get everything sorted out as smoothly as possible. The moving crews on both ends were friendly, very professional, and did a great job, especially Pierre, who ran things on the Chicago end. They were very responsive during the sales process, but once they had our contract, after promising 5 star service, they were barely responsive, at best. Then comes the moving. They broke a limestone coffee table top, chipped a dresser's corners, gouged the side of a nightstand, broke serving bowls, and a few things are missing. They also scuffed up the floors and walls. The lack of care when handling our property and the gross discrepancy between their quote and the final invoice (almost double) should make others think twice before using this company. read more

*** NEGATIVE STARS*** Absolutely worst experience of my entire moving life, not my first rodeo moving across the country. However, this is 100% my first and last time dealing with a fraudulent, extremely rude, and atrocious company that only values themselves and their quick buck. When it comes to regards to their customers, the customer service is absolute garbage and nasty and rude. I honestly feel bad for the people that deem themselves that low on their own life/moral standards to work for this alluding "company". They DO NOT care about you. The circumstances at which they put you and your family in are SO FAR down on their list, it's basically like you do not exist. That is until they are jumping down your throat for their money in the most inappropriate scammy, scummy, way possible. THEY ARE NOT GOOD PEOPLE. They LIE, they string you along (FOR WEEKS WITH NO ANSWERS), they blame everyone else and take no responsibility for their actions. They claim you are harassing them when you are only looking for one answer- when will my belongings actually arrive? "I have no information for you, call back in 2 days" just to call back in 2 days that turn into weeks with the same alluding practices they have worked and projected over the years. No wonder they had to go get a new company name. This company and their practices left me and my baby with NOTHING for 22 days after move in date with no empathy, no estimated date of arrival (EVER except 24 hours in advance) although our move in date was MAY 1st. It is now MAY 22 and the movers have arrived, 3 hours late but none the less, THEY ARRIVED, the gods have spoken.. NOT QUITE YET!!! I had gotten a cashiers check from CHASE BANK (pretty reputable if you ask me) made out to ENCORE. "NOT EXPECTABLE!!" the driver rudely came at me, not even 3 feet away, no mask, no gloves (they at first refused to wear until after calling the manager (also extremely rude and unprofessional, ((NO SURPRISE HERE)) in a household with an 18mo old baby and an adult who is high risk. EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL and unacceptable. After getting back with the correct form of payment, THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN CASH, these guys (who were 22 days and 3 hours late) had the audacity to make me go back to the bank (3rd trip) and pull out another $80 because they were "held up" G.T.F.O.H!!!! AFTER THEY WERE DONE THEY TOLD US WE HAD THREE MINUTES TO LOOK THROUGH OUR STUFF or we would be charged MORE. At this point my husband told them to leave our property. UNREAL. DAMAGED GOODS and an insurance claim is to be made ASAP- one of which I know won't even come close to measuring up to the damage (mentally and physically) this company has costed us. Key Things: Horrific Experience. Move your things yourself before considering Encore. I recently relocated from Indiana to Virginia for a career in DC. I decided to go with Encore Moving & Storage after receiving a call from one of their customer service agents, Desiree. While Desiree was very nice, there was a misunderstanding (that I am still currently paying for). Desiree told me that my belongings could be picked up on May 30 and delivered to me by the end of the second week in June at a very affordable rate. I cancelled my UHaul reservation and went ahead to book a reservation with Encore. The next day I received a call from the manager saying that there was a misunderstanding and that they could not guarantee I could receive my belongings with the date Desiree gave me. They did assure me that their normal delivery time is 7-14 business days. By the time they told me this information, the UHaul rental in my area was no longer available. I was forced to make a decision to go with Encore as my first day of my new job was quickly approaching. Let's just say I'll be starting my third week of my job without my belongings. My belongings were picked up on May 30. It's currently June 23. This has been a horrific experience as I am a young 25 year old, with limited resources, moving across the country to start a job. This has impacted my finances in a HUGE way. I am borrowing money from family just to have clothes to wear to work. Not to mention, if you want an update on your items you have to call Encore. They're very nice to speak with but they will be sure to remind you that you signed a contract that gives them 30 BUSINESS DAYS even if they tell you 7-14. I wouldn't recommend anyone using their services. I call and ask about my items at least once per week. I was told that it's a computer/logistics system & that they have no control over when I'll receive my items. At this point, I'll just be happy to receive my things. read more

Delivery was made on Nov 22nd and I had time to unpack a small amount. We were not to be in the home permanently until Jan 10th. I wanted a TV on for background noise so I started there. I could not find the Family room boxes anywhere which had all the wiring and such needed for it so I called Divine Movers, a broker I went thorough. They said make a list and wait until you have unpacked the whole home as things often turn up. Fast forward to January and we arrive for good and start unpacking the house. We commented on how badly they packed the boxes in the truck as many were squished or the tape rolled over and such. After unpacking the whole house, it is obvious that it wasn`t the packing but that our stuff has been rifled through and ransacked. Aside from the missing boxes of electronics, we have not mentioned all the broken plates, glasses, serving trays etc. that were not at all wrapped the way we did. In fact, many boxes were not even packed the same way we did them. I have OCD and am very particular in how things are done and these were not how we did them at all. Here is the big kicker... I HAD a 55" 4K HDR Samsung LED TV that was purchased last May. It was packed in a box as well. What ARRIVED was a Samsung 43" PLASMA TV that is many years older than what I had. That`s when everything clicked with me. The boxes were not poorly packed, they were gone through, likely starting with the Family Room boxes while looking for a Remote for the TV that they wanted to keep. This led to many electronics being stolen including 2 laptops out of the 10+ I own. I would normally assume that they thought I wouldn`t know right away due to the surplus I have of them but with this blatant theft, I doubt it crossed their mind. I have submitted a claim through their 3rd party claims unit and state they will do the right thing once it is finished. IT has been 2 weeks and the claim has not progressed past the initial review stage. I can see if this was a typical broken or missing item here but there is a targeted list of items inboxes and boxes from those rooms that are all missing. The retail of the claim is over $9K and we have found a handful of other things since like a suitcase and other things to carry good out with. I am told the Owners are aware and very angry, yet they have not spoken a word to me. A representative of Encore has stated they had not seen anything like this before so why would they not try to resolve this in a manner unlike before? This is THEFT, not a broken or missing item. I am washing my hands of this if I do not have a clear path to resolution on Monday an turning this over to my lawyer. read more

For starters, I've done a fair number of long distance moves, so I'm understanding of broken items, long delays to arrival of goods, etc... the standard moving complaints. However, none of the previous movers have been as bad as Encore. I didn't specifically choose Encore--rather I was brokered to them to handle my move from IL to CA. Service at both ends was poor. For starters, arrival of the movers poor, both for pickup and delivery--at pickup, the packers came a full day later than promised, and when rescheduled, they were nearly an hour late beyond the arrival window. At delivery, again, the driver promised one day, but ended up calling that day, 2 hours before the arrival window, saying it would be the next (if I were in San Francisco and had to pay for a $300 moving permit, I would be pissed that they didn't keep to the schedule, since it takes several days of advance notice to get the permit in the first place). Second, there was a clear miscommunication between the broker and movers--the broker contract clearly stated both full packing services and long carry and stairs. However, the movers' contract didn't state that (just was the blank standard contract)--so, the movers were unwilling to do *any* work (and even threatened to go onto their next job) until those contracting issues was settled (which is fine, except for the fact that after many calls between the broker and Encore, it was decided that Encore was wrong. No apologies offered.) Third--the hired muscle is hit-or-miss--packing in IL was decent, but unloading in CA was sloppy--items with clear fragile labels were tossed haphazardly. Lesson is--with these guys, read every line of the contract--even if it takes you 2 hours to read every single line on every single page that they have you sign, do it. Because if you don't, they'll shove that piece of paper in your face and say you signed it (and since Encore has your goods, so they have all of the leverage). If they complain about how long it takes you to read it, tell them, you didn't send me this contract in advance to read, and other customers say you are a stickler about the language, so I don't want any surprises--what the Encore representative says doesn't matter; only the contract matters. I wouldn't describe Encore as fraudulent, but they are highly unethical--even if you are trying to work/compromise with them (I mean, I provided them with lunch, and even tipped them)--give them an inch, and they'll turn around and beat you over the head with the contract. It honestly shouldn't be a surprise to them that so many reviews are 1 star--with ethics like theirs, no wonder people aren't happy. read more

We moved from Chicago to Las Vegas and though we did get our stuff within a reasonable time frame we had a lot of broken and missing items that were blatantly stolen. As in riffled through and pocked out! STOLEN newer electronics (TV soundbar, PS4, expensive Bluetooth speakers,iPad), nice set of kitchen knives.. a commemorative silver spoon missing out of its box. BROKEN bicycles. BROKEN bed frame. Of course you could file a claim with their third party service however what they don't explain to you at the time of signing is that you basically signed your belongs away for 60 cents a lb. Rendering it not worth the hassle for what you might get back. It angers me that a company is regularly taking advantage of people and I only wish I read the Yelp reviews prior to using the service. Encore?? More like leave mid-show... These movers illegally blocked my driveway all day without permission. I called the office and spoke to Carrie to ask for a pathway out, then called back a few minutes before their office was to close to verify they were able to contact their drivers since I was seeing no progress being made. She assured me she told them to move. Two hours later, the boxes were stacked even higher. I went to leave and the driver started arguing with me and refused to move the truck until the police arrived. One, if these were professionals, they would have double checked with my neighbors that they had permission to be there. Two, the young man would not have argued with me or yelled at me no matter the situation. Three, they would not have told me to call the police in order for them to move their truck. If anyone knows how it feels to be blocked in or cornered by two men, (one who was a hot-headed jerk); when 'flight' is removed from a fight or flight scenario, you know this was not a comfortable situation to be in. On top of everything else, they lied to the police twice about the situation knowing it was four against one. Since I did not request they be given a citation because I was already late because of them, I still wanted to say that the young man in the picture below is not someone they should want representing their company and not someone you do not want in your home with your belongings. P.S. as he was throwing his fit, he dropped a box of the truck and didn't bother to look for damage. read more

This is a review of Encore Moving and Storage, 202 Berg St., Algonquin, IL 60102. DO NOT USE THESE MOVERS. I did not hire these movers in any case, but was assigned to them by a broker, Charter Van Lines, 21301 Powerline Rd. Suite 106, Boca Raton, FL 33433. I will list a few of the worst aspects of my experience and strongly advise you not to hire this company. This is not an honest business. 1. The movers arrived a whole day after the 48-hour window that had been planned far in advance. They gave no notice at all of when they would arrive until the very last minute, despite my repeated calls. 2. I had arranged the move far in advance with the broker. We had agreed on a detailed inventory, and I asked very specific questions and received specific reassurances, in writing, as to the "binding" cost of the move. I had the dollar amount ready in a Postal Money Order as specifically instructed by the broker. But when these movers arrived, they acted as if there was no prior agreement at all, and proceeded to recalculate everything from scratch, stating that the broker "has nothing to do with this." They came on a Sunday, so there was no recourse to the broker, who was closed for the day. 3. When I tried to hold my position about the price, they repeatedly threatened to cancel the move. At one point, even after they had loaded the truck, they threatened to unpack and leave my property on the sidewalk. This is truly extortion. Like most people who are moving, the stakes were high for me because I needed to be at my destination to start a new job on a certain day. Also, my lease was up and I had to get out of my apartment on a certain day. Any change in this careful plan would come at significant expense to me, which of course they knew very well, but this is how they roll! Their message to me was: "You do it our way, you pay what we tell you, or we're leaving. We don't care about your agreement with a broker, this is what we're charging you now. Pay it, or you're on your own." Of course at this point I really did have no choice, and I had no way to evaluate their charges, though I repeat: I had been quoted a firm price based on an actually inventory, and I had been assured this price would not change. This was in a written contract. The movers simply acted as if this contract was meaningless. 4. In the end, they added almost $1300 in fraudulent charges to the "binding" price I had been given by the broker. They made it crystal clear, with their threatening and bullying tactics, that I had absolutely no choice but to pay it. 5. But that was not all. I missed 2 days of work at my new job and had to reschedule flights several times because they did not arrive when they said they would and did not provide any info about when they would arrive so it was impossible to anticipate what would happen next. And... 6. Even worse, although I had done a careful inventory with the broker -- so I know for certain we had an accurate estimate of the size of the move -- they arrived with their truck already so full that they could could not fit all my property, leaving me with no choice but to take a total loss on several items they left behind (not to mention the serious inconvenience of unexpectedly having to get rid of them when I was already 2 days behind schedule thanks to them). The total loss of property was approximately $2000 -- on top of the fraudulent "up charges." 6. My stuff arrived with many miscellaneous damages, but nothing significant enough to file an insurance claim due to high deductibles. Worse, everything smelled of some combination of something like cigar smoke and filthy dog... Disgusting! It took weeks to get everything cleaned up (and additional costs for steam cleaning, etc.). There should be laws protecting consumers from this kind of fraud and abuse. Until such protection exists, we have to take care to avoid these companies and, no doubt, many others like them in an industry where taking advantage of vulnerable consumers seems to be the order of the day. (I can't tell you the number of friends and family who related similar experiences when I told them what happened to me.) Definitely if I had it to do over I would never again use a broker at all if there was any way around it. That was my mistake. If possible, make sure the company that you are making an agreement with is the same company that is actually doing the work. Otherwise, like me, you will have no way to evaluate in advance the people who are actually doing the move. Unfortunately this broker model is apparently quite common. I was suckered into it when I did an internet search and found a website offering "free moving estimate." Immediately my phone started ringing off the hook. The guy who called me from the broker (Charter Van Lines -- notice the misleading name, since they aren't doing any moving at all themselves) was so nice! But it didn't turn out that way. I hope this review will help keep you from making the same mistake. read more

If you're planning to use them to move I would highly suggest you don't you would be better off physically carrying all of your items one by one by hand. They picked up my items April 29th 2021 it is now May 30 2021 and I have NOT received ANY of my items! I have called them once a week since they picked up my items my earliest drop off date was April 29th 2021, they told me I'll get my items within 2-21 days and now when I ask them what's going on and and for a refund they told me 30 business days! Also, they told me that they came to the state where my things should have been dropped off not once but twice and I still don't have my items! How is this possible? NO ONE and I mean absolutely NO ONE has reached out to me on their own to apologize for the inconvenience or to even give me an update! Where are my things? Are they damaged? Yeah these guys were great... was going through a rough divorce and decided to move from Jersey to Vegas, ya know party time!!! I had family there and was excited to get away. Ill list the good and the bad about this company. pros: Affordable trustworthy professional cons: more expensive than I anticipated but the price was still right. they delivered one day later than expected, they kept in touch but I was not happy about it. 1. Upon delivery, my boxes were in rough shape. Luckily nothing broken because I did my own bubble wrap and packing. 2. The movers charged me an extra $75 dollars for additional steps, however they parked right outside my front door and there was an elevator. Why the extra 75$?? It was less than 75 steps from truck to apartment. 3. The movers tried very hard to charge me an extra $300 for a shuttle bus, however I live next to a fire station and the fire trucks park on my street all the time. They finally agreed to try it with their truck and it was completely fine. This took 3 different phone calls on a Saturday evening. 5. They came on a Sunday at 7am; called me Sat at 4pm to let me know. Banks and post office were closed. Took several phone calls back and forth for them to finally agree to using a cash app. 6. The movers would not mount my tv to the wall when I asked. 7. They forgot my art paintings in the truck so they are shipping that to me after the fact. They are paying for shipping charges. The good news-- Timeframe: it took them 3 weeks, which is within the timeframe quoted (up to 30 business days). Glad this experience is done! read more

Nightmare of a company! Extremely unprofessional from the very first encounter (mover shows up wearing flip flops), to the movers who dropped off our belongings (along with items that were not ours) to a year and a half later when we are still dealing with the owners trying to find our lost items. They lost boxes, our fan, a huge portfolio of artwork, broke many items that were carefully wrapped, broke our printer, broke one of our bikes...somehow! We really wish we could go back in time and have turned them away from the start, so save yourself the heartache and time and go with a company that actually understands how to move your possessions! During all the phone calls trying to locate our missing items, the owner admitted to us they didn't have a clue about running a moving company, they pivoted to this company from the restaurant business because they had no other choice from the recession. Mover BEWARE - I would STRONGLY advise against using this company for your move. Although the moving guys are courteous, friendly and appear to be qualified to securely wrap and transport furniture and household goods, they are definitely NOT ! and the outcome was a disaster. Somewhere between Chicago and Maryland these unqualified and apparently careless and reckless movers managed to break our expensive 200 year old piece of artwork in half, break the wood off our antique furniture dining set (30 year old china cabinet and buffet) including completely taking the arm off one chair, the back off another chair, shatter an antique vase, break the leg in half on a decorative stand (they actually re-taped it lol) and break various dishes. They promised to " provide secure crating" to protect these expansive, heirloom items and even CHARGED US MORE MONEY to do so. Unfortunately the so called secure padding and crating was no match for the GROSS and CARELESS mishandling of our beloved and valuable pieces of furniture. To make matters worse, when the delivery of furniture arrived to our new home, Encore only provided ONE guy to unload EVERYTHING! An entire one bedroom household to unload, transport and reassemble by ONE Encore mover who was also the lone driver. So my partner and I had no choice but to jump in and help assume the responsibility of an encore employee and assist with unloading, HEAVY LIFTING the furniture ( 2 piece china cabinet, large couch, buffet, table etc ) unwrapping, assembling and bagging the furniture pads AND we had to supply the tools as the encore mover did not have any tools available. It was TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE for Encore Movers to put us in this predicament. And the final kicker was Encore final cost was MORE than double the estimate provided to us by the shady broker (IMRG/interstate movers and relocation located in Boca Raton, Florida) and they would only accept cash or a postal money order BEFORE they would unload the antique furniture that THEY broke! Using this company was a HUGE mistake. Don't make the same mistake. read more

I went above and beyond and spent hundreds of dollars just on the packing materials for these ppl to literally just throw my stuff around!? I had boxes in perfect shape, and they had little children packing and moving my stuff. When it arrived all of my boxes were pretty much ripped open and all smashed. I was overcharged, charged extra fees that I was told I wouldn't! How are you honestly going to treat someone's belongings like that? I'm so disappointed with my experience with Encore Moving & Storage. After two weeks of no communication, I spoke with Brian M., a customer representative there, who had no information or updates regarding when my furniture and belongings would be delivered. He couldn't even give me a timeframe. Mind you, I didn't move that far (8 hour drive). I understand that moving companies have up to 30 days to deliver your items, but the sales representative I spoke with, Desiree, guaranteed max 14 days for delivery. This was the reason I picked and trusted them as my moving company. I got totally duped by Encore, and am extremely frustrated that they blatantly lied to me as a customer. I'm tired of speaking to Brian, who has given me no information or any sort of assurance that my belongings are in good hands. Do not waste your money. Best advice is to hire someone yourself locally (craigslist, just like this moving company did to unload our stuff) and have them help you load up a moving truck for a couple hundred bucks and move yourself. You'll save thousands. Company works with third party brokers that are misleading and you think you're working directly with the movers, but at the end the brokers get 1k for..doing nothing and then send the business to Encore where you'll be up charged for things not originally explained. Do not go with any movers that do not physically show up at your place to give you a quote. When moving day comes they'll tell you they need to charge you for more space on the truck, charge you for boxes that you didn't know you needed (boxed up a standing globe that was part of our inventory list, our dresser mirror that they lost the screws for and were unable to assemble). Our apartment was on the second floor with 3 sets of 7 steps leading up to it. My sister and mom stayed at the apartment while they were grabbing our things and we get a phone call that they're charging us an additional $150 for the 2 flights of stairs even though in the contract it states a flight is considered 10 or more steps. They will try to charge you for anything and everything. They give a 2 week window for your items to arrive and while your items just sit at a warehouse, they eventually cram all your belongings into a semi packed like a can of sardines and if there isn't another route conveniently going your direction for 10 days, your stuck without your items until it's worth their while to go that way. They lost the screws to our queen bed as well and came to the terms of oh well, go to the store and buy new screws yourself and now assemble the entire thing yourself, even though in the contract it states they are responsible for reassembling anything they need to disassemble. Recieved a phone call within minutes after the movers left saying we'd be mailed a $25 check for the inconvenience. $25 for the 5 hours it took my husband to run to 2 different stores and assemble everything himself, not to mention they were specialty screws needed for the bed and he had to make do with what the store sold. Honestly wouldn't surprise me if this mover got rid of the screws himself, knowing they'd "compensate" us for the inconvenience. $25 beats spending an extra hour or two at our place when he needs to make it to Atlanta by the afternoon. What if my husband wasn't handy? I wouldn't have been able to assemble this bed myself, but they don't care. This was 3 weeks ago, haven't gotten a dime from this place. Filed a claim for the broken end table we received, but don't expect to get anything from that either. Seriously, stay away from this company. You're throwing your money away when you can easily do majority of these things yourself. They hire locals to help them and I'm sure pay them minimum wage for the work. Toss a local a couple hundred bucks to help load and unload, have someone comfortable drive a truck for you and be in the known of where and when your items are arriving. My husband is in a field of work where moving across the country is an occurence we endure every couple years and I will NEVER use this place or allow any friends or family to even consider them. We moved from Chicago, IL on June 2nd to Austin, TX and just received our things today (July 9)....5+ weeks later!!!!! What a nightmare. We are both young adults starting new jobs and moving from our families and friends and to be here this long without our belongings and furniture was less than ideal and beyond stressful. Any time we called to try and see what the hold up was with our stuff we were talked to very rudely and given basically no info other than "the driver will call 24 hours before drop off." Welp they dropped it off this morning around 9 and called maybe 12 hours in advance. My bf had to miss a big work event to meet them. Very frustrating. All we can say is we are beyond relieved to finally have our belongings back and be done with this terrible company!!! This is my experience I booked encore on 26th January and asked them to deliver on 16th february but I didn't get my goods on time. On march 4th I got call from Encore they said tomorrow we are delivering your goods then I expect whold day end of the day they said we can't deliver today because we need to book one shuttle will deliver on tomorrow. DID NOT SHOW UP ON MOVING DAY - DO NOT USE. What more can be said? When I called them on moving day because they were late, I was told that the entire moving crew did not report to work because they were probably partying the night before. I had an interstate move and when they didn't show up, the domino effect was of personal, monumental proportions between having to ask my landlord to allow me to store my packed belongings after the lease had expired, having to stay in a hotel, having to delay my job start day, having to cancel my vacation over Fourth of July weekend (where I was planning to see my 85-year old father), and on and on. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! You would be better off using a dump truck and hiring a couple teenagers to just throw your things in the back of it. This company is fraudulent, rude, and downright criminal. They assured me that I would have my items on my move-in date. I moved across the country with my baby. Having nothing but a suitcase and the few essentials that would fit in my car, I called customer service when they did not show. Customer service was very rude and gave me the run around. Days passed while I'm living out of a suitcase with my baby. No highchair, no crib, no swing... NOTHING! I call customer service again and they tell me that my items are on the way. Again, no show. Same cycle, I call, they lie, rinse and repeat. It took them almost a whole month past my move-in date to show up with my items. BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE! They gave me very little notice as to when they were going to show up. When they did show up, they held my belongings for ransom. They literally would not let me check or look at my stuff before I paid them and they would only take cash. So I had to take my very upset and hungry baby to the bank. Then when I get back they tell me there are added fees AFTER I ALREADY WENT TO THE BANK! So I decide it can wait and went in my own home to breastfeed my baby in a camping chair (had to buy it at a Walmart so I had somewhere to sit since I didn't have my stuff for almost a month). The movers were becoming increasingly irritated and rude, making comments about me wasting THEIR time while I feed my overtired and hungry infant before I have to make a second trip to the bank because they failed to give me the full amount due the first time. So after I go the the bank AGAIN and pay them the additional and incredibly ridiculous fees, I finally get to look at my stuff. Almost all of the boxes were damaged, stuff was falling out, items were broken and missing... I could go on for days. They haphazardly just threw my things into boxes with zero effort. Then it looked like they just tossed these boxes into the back of a truck without any care, then dropped heavy items repeatedly on top of them. My baby's crib was damaged and missing hardware, leaving it completely unsafe to use. Half the boxes had water damage with some even containing mold. So again those items were unsafe to use in the home with my infant. I seriously would have been better off either using a dump truck or buying all new stuff. I couldn't afford all of their additional last minute fees and replacing all of the damaged and missing items anyway. Save yourself the trouble and money. Use a different company!!! read more

After getting screwed over by 3 other moving Companies we ended up with Encore which was booked through a broker at United Relocation. My boyfriend and I moved from Michigan to Florida. They were the ONLY company to stand by their word and the quoted price. They came and got our stuff and it took 8 days to get here but that's the best they could do on such short notice. I can't complain considering we booked it about 12 hours in advance. The guys loading the truck were very nice and got it done timely, even though they had to restack basically the entire truck more than once to get it all to fit. When they came to unload the truck around 9pm, two different guys were very polite and went through the entire inventory with me as shown on our paperwork. The broker did not tell me that the balance had to be paid cash or money order which held up the movers even longer. So I had to run to the nearest ATM but they both waited patiently and didn't get upset about it. There was not any BS about extra charges due to whatever nonsense I hear so much about. My only complaint is that most of my glasses and a couple glass decorative items were broken. But they instructed we take pictures and send it to them within 30 days to get reimbursed. PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I agree 100% with everything that Kurt mentioned in the review below and have had a similar experience. My original quote was less than half of what they ended up charging me the day of my move. Total scam to get me in a vulnerable position where I didn't have a choice come moving day. Communication and customer service is non-existent. In fact, I have no idea how this company is still in business. I don't write reviews just to write reviews, the experience has to be horrible or fabulous and this was the worst. Context: I was moving from Chicago, IL to Livermore, CA. I was told over the phone that my move would be around $2,800. Due to the decent quote, we went ahead and said OK. Right before the movers came to my house, I got a second phone call and the quote moved to $3,500. OK, I thought, maybe the first quote wasn't quite accurate. I was told that my things would be picked on on a Tuesday. They didn't show, so we called and they said they weren't coming until Wednesday. This is a huge deal when you are moving across country on a timeline, or moving in general. We had to push back our move date. When the movers finally got to my apartment a day late, suddenly the cost to ship my things was $4,500. What was I going to do at that point, say no? They even tried to get me to pay more money when they had all my things in the truck except for one last piece. This was about the same time that the foreman asked me to put in the paperwork that they started my move earlier so they could have extra pay for that day. I was told I was charged by weight over the phone, the movers said it was by cubic feet. The movers also said I would receive my items in 4-14 days. My apartment was left in shambles. Tape and tape rolls were left all over the place and they didn't even bring all the pieces of furniture I asked to be packed up. We purposely planned a 4 day road trip out to California as with the timeline I was given (4-14 days), I thought it would be perfect. We would arrive, have time to do a few things, and then a few days later all of our things would arrive. After a week with no word from the moving company, I called to see where my things were. I was told they were still in Chicago. I was shocked. I was then told that even though I was told 4-14 days for delivery, they didn't guarantee that and in fact it could take up to 30 days to deliver. This was news to me as when I talked to the foreman the day of the move and asked about the 30 day note on the contract, he said it never takes that long and they just have to say that legally, but my stuff would arrive 4-14 days from the day it was picked up. I mentioned this to the "customer service rep" that I got on the phone after calling 10 times and leaving messages with no callback, and she simply said that he was wrong and shouldn't have told me that. Great. I finally received my things 28 days after we left Chicago. 28 days. During that time no one would talk to me, answer my calls, tell me an estimated delivery date, or respond at all. Because the timeline wasn't what I was told, I was in another country for work when everything arrived. When I got back home, I was greeted to smashed boxes, furniture with rubs and dings, and furniture that had not been put together (other than prepackaging all my items in boxes, wrapping my mirrors, pictures, and televisions, I was told they would take care to wrap my furniture and take it apart/put it together). Around half of my breakable items were broken. This included heirlooms, items from other countries, glassware, pottery, and dishes. A lot of these items aren't even replaceable. I packed everything in these boxes with care. I used towels, bubble wrap, extra padding as I didn't want anything to happen in transport. I made sure to mark the boxes "FRAGILE" and "GLASS/CRYSTAL" so that they would know what they were moving. Clearly they threw these boxes around with no care at all with the rate of broken items I received. Every single piece of furniture is marked up in someway. Some pieces were ruined, some I will salvage despite the scratches and dings. I've already bought new hardware for cabinets due to knobs being broken off. I'm working with their third party insurance company to gather a list of all items that were broken and ruined in the move. I have no hope of ever receiving any money in return. I do hope that this post reaches anyone considering using this company. There were no reviews for me at the time I did research and I hope this prevents you from having the same trouble and stress in your life that I have had. It's not worth it. read more

STAY AWAY!!! This company is a total scam and so unprofessional. They recently changed their name from Midwest Moving & Storage because they were forced to after posing after another more established professional company in the Chicago area. We got confused by the two and when we hired this company, we thought we were using the reliable well rated one. From the minute the movers arrived (wearing flip flops and no company insignia of any kind) I knew we were in trouble. I wish I trusted my gut and turned them away, but what can you do when you're moving on a deadline!? They outsourced our storage to another company/warehouse in Las Vegas without explaining this (also a disaster of a business) When our items arrived of course items were broken-expected for a cross country move. But so many of the boxes looked like they were thrown and simply smashed with no care or respect. Worst of all THEY LOST SEVERAL ITEMS including several portfolios of artwork and a few boxes that have not turned up, almost a year later. This company has no process for finding lost items, their idea of inventory is putting a sticker on your items and hiring a mover who doesn't know what the word inventory means (not kidding at all, she asked my husband and I what that word meant) Trying to resolve this issue has been a nightmare as well, the owner has the attitude that they have done everything possible and nothing more can be done. Drivers will charge you based on where you live. They call it as "longcarry". I asked specifically not to sent them a large truck, but they sent a large truck. Then driver said he cannot to come close to your home, I ended up paying extra $150 dollars for both picking up and drop off. I told them not to sent them, but they do not care, driver knows how to get extra bucks. This extras has pay by cash. On top of that, they did not properly assembled onr of my bed and driver left without even let us know. I was not at home at that time, they took the advantage of that.
