Well what can we say about Encore Moving. These guys know how to get a household moved, and quickly! Father of 5 here, relocating for my wife's "prestigious" career. After a hectic year we needed this to be easy! And it was. The reason we're leaving this review is the overall value, its unbeatable. We have moved multiple times and used small, to large companies with varying results. This company not only offered a lower price, but outstanding customer service. 10/10 the Williams family recommends!

FRAUDULENT COMPANY - DO NOT USE This company also operates under the Encore moving. Make sure to differentiate between this company Midwest moving and storage LLC and the legitimate Midwest Moving and Storage INC I give them negative starts I would. I never signed up to work with Midwest Moving and Storage LLC but had no choice to do so when they showed up to pick up my things after being subcontracted by the company I did hire. Midwest Moving and Storage LLC (aka Encore Moving, Algonquin IL) is a rogue and fraudulent company with predatory practices with a name so similar a reputable moving company you could say they are impersonating the real Midwest Moving and Storage INC. When booking I explicitly asked what day I should arrange for pick up to guarantee a delivery date of July 6, they told me June 28. they showed up June 29th a full day later, delaying continually hour by hour for an entire day leaving my tied to my house the whole time thinking they'd be arriving any minute. They did not deliver by July 6 as requested so that I could be ready to start my new job on July 10th, instead they showed up 4 days late ON July 10th the first day of my new job which was terribly inconvenient. Upon delivery they advised their truck could not fit into my driveway and I would have to pay an additional $650 to off load to a smaller truck despite the fact I had verified with my complex that this size truck was allowed in the complex. The moving company essentially extorted me for $650 or they wouldn't delivery my belongings demanding the $650 in cash. I ultimately had no choice but to pay it but I did convince them to let me put it on my credit card which they charged twice leaving me to have to dispute one of the charges with my credit card. Additionally when the driver finally arrived he tried to claim that it hadn't been paid and I needed to still pay him $650 in cash but I was able to pull up the charge on my credit card and show him (the 2nd charge didn't show up for a couple of days later) When my belongings were finally delivered the boxes looked like they had been air dropped from a plane, they were all smashed, broken, squashed with my belongings trailing out of them. Many of my items were missing never to be found. Some of my items were missing, and returned a month later including an expensive bicycle of which the movers decided to take a paddle lock and chain from the under-seat pouch and lock the frame to the tire and LOSE the key. I still have yet to have the paddle lock cut off. Many more of my items were broken including my flat screen TV which clearly had something heavy on top of it destroying the display screen. The claim process and website is another scam. The site is designed to clear out all of your entries if you leave the page, requiring you to have to start over each time you navigate away or click the wrong button. I am sure this is an intentional design in an attempt to frustrate users and make them give up. Additionally once my claim was submitted it was sent back for incompleteness despite spending 3 hours completing the details they asked for.

1. Estimate was nearly $700 less than I actually ended up paying. 2. Movers showed up at the absolute last minute to pickup, stayed later than scheduled- which would have been fine but that meant we couldn't get out "pre-move our inspection" granted we couldn't have replaced blinds or patched holes in a few hours but I have no doubt that we could have relinquished at LEAST $150 of the 350$ in fees we were charged by our landlords. Ok maybe that one's on me, whatever. 3. Moving date was August 9th. I've known that for months. Buuuut I signed the paperwork that said they'd deliver on August 11 (30 days after pickup). Not sure who wrote that but I still signed off on it. I took the 9th, 10th, and 11th off work to unpack my things and have a nice stress free move in period. My things got here on the August 20th. I did call the company to inquire, and they passed the buck onto the department of transportation allowing them 30 extra days to move your things before you can seek legal action/hold the company financially accountable for their delay or anything like that. After telling the driver 2 days prior that he would not fit into the parking lot of my apartment, he mentioned bringing a shuttle. I even called my leasing office to confirm the semi truck wouldn't fit, then called him back to confirm with the mover. Adding in a section here because we got the '24 hours from delivery time' phone call Then had to wait an extra full day because the truck was broken down somewhere near grand junction. Move in day he had little recollection of that phone conversation and told me that my options were the "long carry" or the additional $350 for the smaller shuttle. After hearing the price of the shuttle, the choice was simple and we went with the long carry tacking on an extra ~80$ plus the 75$ for the one staircase. Initially I was told we get one staircase for free. Stupid me I thought that was one staircase at pickup and one staircase at delivery. The movers themselves were actually cool and I can't blame them for our things being damaged- but here's the list of our damaged things! -24 inch TV -vanity set (completely destroyed) -shoe rack -dented corner on box spring -sewing kit -bed frame was/is missing a piece Also the receptionist lady- Desiree is really great and such a sweetheart that it makes me feel bad to give such a poor review. Okay recap. 1. late pickup, no pre move out inspection. 2. Expected things the 9th (move in date) They wrote down the 11th Trucker called the 18th saying he'd be here in 24 hours. Things arrived the 20th. (Side note my girlfriend and I, both listed tenants, work full time in the service industry and have a REAL schedule to attend to) 3. bad service, ZERO follow up calls, no reassurance that our things will arrive/did arrive, clearly an extremely unorganized dispatch/truck team. One time Desiree had a full on argument with a dispatcher about the schedule while I was on the phone. 4. multiple broken things 5. Extra charges stairs, long carry, luckily I didn't choose the shuttle! I understand now the risks of hiring a moving company with my belongings and if you're still reading this- rent a U-Haul and do it yourself.

One star is too much for this company... let's start with trinity relocation , a complete scam, brokered to encore movers. This company showed up 3 hours late, the move was estimated at 3900 and turned into 11,000 dollars! That's not the worst of it.. first available delivery date June 22nd... someone over there changed it to July without my consent. Delivery July 25th! Chicago to Pensacola... the worst is yet to come ... my belongings disappeared ... destroyed... boxes mangled ... unprofessional delivery... no mask wearing... tracking dirt into my home... Communicating was a joke.. I was lied to... and lied to again and again... I have over 10,000 in missing and damaged belongings... no communication... file a claim... I can't get back what they destroyed and lost... never use this company... I will continue to pursue all options to seek retribution for the neglect, sheer disrespect of my belongings that I worked my life for... when picking up my belongings... the movers reeked of marijuana! Upon delivery semi driver said he couldn't come down to street... really? Charge another $750... charge upon charge upon charge.... How do they think they can get away with destroying personal belongings and taking belongings and mishandling belongings and think it's ok.. wrong... no communication whatsoever... DO NOT USE ENCORE!!!

Thousands of dollars in damaged and lost goods. Shocking signs of neglect and ineptitude. This company is appalling and have no right to be in business. DO NOT USE! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! My family used Encore to move across the country from Chicago to Phoenix. Encore Moving and Storage showed neglect, carelessness, and ineptitude at safely packing and transporting our goods, and failed to communicate vital details to us throughout the process. The entire experience from beginning to end was a nightmare that resulted in thousands of dollars worth of damaged and lost belongings. Working with Encore was easily the worst customer experience I have had in my life, and should absolutely be avoided by anyone who cares for their personal belongings or their sanity. The specific details of our experience was as follows: Packers in Chicago showed up at 10AM and began packing the kitchen. After about an hour and a half of what seemed to be productive and efficient progress from 4 movers, all of a sudden, the 3 other packers disappeared for the afternoon. Occasionally one would come back into the condo and another would disappear. From noon until 5PM, there was one person slowly taping furniture and packing boxes. At 6PM, HALF of our 2-bedroom condo was packed and ready to go. At this point, the whole crew re-appeared and apparently realized they need to cut corners to get this job done- (most of the specific details of this corner cutting would not become apparent until we unpacked). Finally, they finished at 9:30PM. Nearly 12 hours to pack a 2-bedroom condo with 4 men. The process of getting our belongings felt like negotiating a hostage situation. Despite being told upfront that it would be delivered within 14 days of our first date of possible acceptance (something other reviewers point out multiple times as well). We were told our belongings would arrive on August 31. We then had to call the company every single day and received no update. On September 6, we were told that the items would not arrive until the end of the following week, however we received a call the next day from the actual driver saying they were arriving in two days. Upon asking about the sudden change, he told us that "Encore does not know anything. We will arrive in two days". When the belongings arrived, the condition of our items was shocking. Hardly anything was wrapped in packing paper. My iMac computer was thrown haphazardly in a box underneath clothes. A glass lamp was in a box wrapped in one of my blankets (NO packing paper) and it shattered. 7 bowls and 10 plates were pulverized because they were stacked together and wrapped in one piece of paper. My kitchen appliances were tossed together haphazardly in a box with no packing paper. Boxes were smashed and the contents inside were spilling out. A dresser was badly damaged. Kitchen appliances had punctured its boxes and were open to the elements. A large bookcase was completely smashed and had to be thrown away. Coffee glasses were broken and 4 glass storage containers, which were wrapped stacked all together with one piece of packing paper. A bag of oatmeal was thrown in a box open and spilled all over everything in the box. A jar of rice was packed as well and the contents spilled throughout the entire box. This should not have been packed in the first place as no food was to be moved. This is just a small sampling of the damages we've experienced. The way our belongings were treated is completely unacceptable for a professional moving company. Eleven boxes were missing as tagged upon arrival. The driver told us we needed to sign our acceptance document, or else he would not be able to leave, and he was "sure the belongings will show up", but nothing ever did. Missing belongings include: at least 4 pairs of earrings, a box from our baby's room that included lamps, a rug, and a piggy bank with $50 inside, and a Nintendo game system. Also missing is a family heirloom: my great grandmother's china. This is extremely upsetting. This company is appalling, and have no right to be in business. DO NOT USE! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

I came across Encore via a broker. I was not happy with the broker, but I could not be more satisfied with Encore. I moved from Chicago to Huntsville, Alabama, and the portion that was paid to encore was more than affordable and reasonable.. The team arrived in Chicago to professionally wrap my furniture, and make sure that I had a parts box for any legs that came off or screws . Professionally wrapped mirrors for an additional charge as well as a TV that I had. I do believe this was paid through the broker but the movers were part of encore and they did an amazing job. They were in and out very quickly, had my itemized list and told me that they would be in communication with me for delivery. I commend them for getting a moving truck in downtown Chicago and the professionalism they had in dealing with the high-rise building maintenance and navigating the red tape. True to their word, they did follow up with me about a week later to let me know that they would be delivering to my new address and as practicality would have if a semi truck would fit or if I needed a courier, etc. My items were delivered to whichever room I wanted after they made sure to put protection on the door frames and the floor and then furniture was unwrapped and legs were put back on as well. They also made sure that they cleaned up any tape or any mess that would be left behind. Moving is very stressful and I'm not entirely sure, but I believe this is a small family owned company and I could not sing the praises of the staff enough. These guys work really hard and all types of conditions and they still showed up with a smile on their face and answered every one of my questions. I am a very OCD type of a person so I was in communication with their office and they were super responsive. Every time I called for any question that I had. My suggestion is to use this moving company whenever you're able and book direct with them if you can. Great job and thank you Encore team! My parents are planning a move in the next coming year and this is the company that I will be using again! read more

The company "New Start Relocation" was the broker who placed the order for my shipment, and transferred my service to the company "Encore Moving LLC," to move my belongings to the state of Florida. I paid the broker a down payment to hold my spot for delivery, and also paid the moving company to pick up my things, and would have paid the balance upon delivery, which was the plan and stated on the document that was given to me from the moving company. When the moving company Encore arrived in Florida, they called to let me know that they would be delivering my things the next day, and to ask the property manager if it was ok for a 70 ft Diesel to come on the property to deliver my things. The property manager said it was ok. The truck driver refused to move forward to deliver my things when they were already on the property. I tried to tell the truck driver that it was a large space to deliver my things through the bigger door to my apartment. He still didn't move forward with it. I felt that he wanted extra money from me. His excuse was that the truck was too heavy to come onto the property, and he wanted to transport my things onto another truck at a charge. The truck driver could have done it, and was skilled to drive the truck anywhere. It was all about money. He decided not to deliver my things to my apartment and took my things to their storage without my consent. As far as I know...I am not sure if my belongings are in their storage. I do not know where my things are to this point. I called several times and was blocked. I also sent quite a few emails to communicate with them. They still didn't want to deliver my belongings with me and my son's identification in one of my packages and held as hostages. Another scheme is that they might hit me up with storage fees if my things are in their storage. You never know with these scammers. Company should be shut down sued. read more

DO NOT USE ENCORE MOVING & STORAGE BASED IN ALGONQUIN, IL They will way overcharge you and destroy your stuff. They hijacked my belongings and put them in storage after the driver offloaded a semi truck into a truck that wouldn't make it in my driveway, for which they charged me an additional $1,000, then refused to unload my things. Their mistake cost me a lot of time without my things, and many additional charges that I had to pay to know the location of my property. Then, I had to hire other movers to actually deliver my stuff. This was a scam from the broker, Optimum Van Lines, to Encore Moving & Storage. STAY FAR AWAY!!!! There have to be more reputable movers out there--do MUCH research before selecting one! read more

As part of the agreement, we were given 30 days of storage to hold our goods and schedule an arrival date. We had tried calling customer service back to schedule a delivery date and were told we would receive a call back to schedule. 13 days into our storage, we get a call from a mover (Encore moving) saying he will be delivering our items tomorrow morning. This call was received out of no where. We did not give anyone a delivery date, did not receive any calls or emails to schedule a date nor confirm a date prior to this. . Customer service stated that the driver gave us 24 hours notice and we had to accept the delivery tomorrow or they would drop our goods off at a local storage unit at our discretion and we would be responsible for moving them from there. Both of us were out of state and the apt was being painted at the time. We had to purchase a last minute flight to fly in, cancel the painter and receive the goods the next day. The movers arrived the next morning to unload the goods. Immediately, they started to try to add additional charges, such as usage of elevator, a shuttle truck, etc. All of which were clearly stated in the contract that they were included. After arguing with them, they agreed to proceed forward. Only 2 movers were sent to unload the goods for 2 bdrm apt. They arrived at 10am and had to leave at 4pm due to building regulations. These movers were the slowest I have ever seen. They would carry in a few boxes, then disappear for 15-20 min, then bring in the next item; then disappear. They did not finish the job at 4pm and the building super let them continue unloading. Now they had to rush and they were dismissed per building limitations at 5:30pm. Part of the contract stated that they would rebuild all furniture that was taken apart by then, however considering they were so late and ran out of time; this was not done and they left. 1 day later; we noticed a handful of our boxes and furniture was missing. After calling the mover, he confirmed he still had them on his truck and would have to come back when he would be in the area next. He would give us an ETA and then a few hours say he will not be there, and this continued for 3 days until he finally arrived at 7:30pm yesterday. I would strongly advise against using Encore Moving for any business. Very unprofessional, horrible communication, and outright changed the BOL to obtain a higher price. Further, the movers were slow and did not finish the job. read more

Would be a 5 star review but had some minor scheduling issues. Possibly miscommunications. Won't get into the details but it was a headache to arrange delivery. Stressful times for my family. This company did save me money. They even offered a veterans discount. The customer service is outstanding. Aaron who picked up our stuff, was truly great. Different guys dropped it off. Had a few corners scratched on one table. Most all of it is in good shape. Going through the remainder of unpacking so I will update if I find more. At this point. Definitely recommended! Great value, and people. read more

***DO NOT BOOK HERE!!!!*** This poor excuse of a company deserves negative stars. Truly awful customer service and experience. Movers are also extremely rude I initially booked with Trinity moving and storage because the rate THEY quoted was pretty decent for a move from Chicago to Santa Monica). However, I was never informed Trinity is a broker until AFTER I paid a deposit + provided me with suspiciously positive reviews that had no mention of this. I did not find out that Encore was my actual moving company until TWO days before my flight/end of lease, so I couldn't read reviews/reassess according to my moving schedule. Be prepared to pay AT LEAST $1500 extra on whatever you're quoted; I paid an additional $1795. They will not accept your parking permits you purchased prior to arrival (I was charged a $500 long carry fee on initial pickup, even though I had a valid parking permit with the city of Chicago for the truck size). I was also charged for 2 small & 2 medium crates, resulting in an additional $450 fee, though my items were only packed in 4 large boxes, which should have only been $6 each per the contract. Oh yeah, they also provide you with a bunch of things you need to sign (I have 14 pages in my possession) in the middle of your move and edited at the end. Your signature/initials is all they care about, because then they can get away with anything. On arrival, I was charged $300 for a smaller truck (which upon request, they won't provide the receipts for) even though I once again had a valid parking permit with the city of Santa Monica. They parked literally across the street (I paid the parking meter) and was charged a long carry fee of $230 and an elevator fee of $85..... After all of this, in addition to the $1795 overcharge, some of my items arrived damaged. $600 in damaged items that had to be replaced and after two disputes to the insurance they provided (csipros) with good evidence against Encore, they are only offering me $50. And to finish it off, I waited exactly 30 days for my items, which I knew could take UP TO 30 days, but never expected it to take down to the last day. BOTTOM LINE, don't book here with this knowledge unless you want to be taken advantage of and don't care about your belongings. read more

NO, NO, NO. This company was hired through a broker, IMRG, and picked up our belongings on the 29th of August. it is now the 29th of September and we still do not have anything delivered!!! It is awful. They have not contacted us about a delivery date. I talked to them but they insist they go to Tennessee, all. the. time... but our families household is not to be found. My father is 85 and sleeping on an air Mattress and sitting on folding chairs while they wait. Totally unacceptable. As Another person said, I would give it Negative stars if I could. We have also been asked to pay additional fees the day of. read more

Do not use this company. They over charge big time. When I first got a quote for my furniture they did not inform us that anything over a certain size cost a lot more (example dressers, armoires, etc. We did have more boxes than quoted so we knew that it would cost more than the quote for tat. However, we were quoted $2600 and wound up paying $6200. In addition, they disassembled our sofas which they really did not need to. At least on item was left off the inventory list and several items were damaged. They are only going to pay us $44 for the missing and damaged items. Also, they quoted delivery in 7 to 14 days. Our goods were delivered on the 19th day. They wait until they have several shipments before they even leave. If you use this company please do your own inventory of you items and measure all of your furniture. Better idea is not use them at all. Very disappointed in this company read more

They did a really poor job quoting our move, it was MUCH MORE than they told us and only accepted cash. Terrible coordination between the pick up in Chicago and drop off in California. They kept changing the drop off time, ended up charging us an extra delivery charge when they arrived, which was a Sunday and expected cash for the payment. They ruined our west elm kitchen table and chairs and gave us $72 after we filed a claim. Absolutely ridiculous. What is more upsetting is my Louis Vuitton purse was stolen by one of the movers. We know this because we paid for them to pack our belongings. Everything else showed up, minus the expensive bag. They have taken zero responsibility for their actions. So if you are looking for a stress free move- NEVER CHOSE THIS COMPANY. read more

I had the misfortune of having to work with Encore for the delivery portion of my cross-country move. My original movers were not supposed to hire another company, but they did anyway for "faster delivery" and ended up giving me over to Encore. Where my move had already been a stressful and drawn-out affair, Encore swooped in at the last minute to turn the ordeal into a nightmare. The day before my items were supposed to arrive, Desiree from Encore called me to inform me that she and the driver didn't think the truck was going to fit into the residential two-lane street I was moving to. She came right off the bat with an alarmist, rude attitude and demanded that I decide right then and there whether I wanted to pay for everything to be moved to a smaller shuttle for delivery, or risk a 50/50 chance that they couldn't deliver and I'd have to pay both a re-delivery fee AND a shuttle fee. I tell them that this is a huge decision to make and it caught me completely by surprise, especially since 1) this is not my original moving company 2) my original moving company never indicated there would be an issue with delivery and 3) I am not a truck driver and I expected the moving company (the professionals) to be able to determine whether or not they could fit in a regular residential street (which they assured me they did all the time, so it is confusing that for some reason my street was the exception). But Desiree said she was leaving in 20 minutes so I had to decide right then. The whole time, she and the driver were both talking over each other, giving me mixed messages and just overall being unprofessional. It was an extremely hostile interaction where it felt like my items were being held hostage and, at the end of a two-week ordeal, I admit I broke down in tears right there on the phone. I felt so helpless. After I got off the phone, I called the local police department, the private property owner, and the original moving company I hired to make SURE the truck could park on the street and they had no excuses when the time came. Lo and behold, when they arrived they had no issues whatsoever parking on the street. They did manage to ultimately deliver my items. All of the alarmist and threatening interactions they had with me over the phone could have been avoided, but in hindsight I think they were trying to take advantage of me to squeeze more money out of the transaction. I suppose after getting the police involved, they decided it wasn't worth it... On another note, Desiree boasted on the phone that all of their reviews on are 4 or 5 stars! All you have to do is scroll to see that that is a lie. I'm sure she'll respond to this review with excuses and claims, but I have nothing to tell but the truth of my experience. Tl;dr If you're reading this, do not use this company. You deserve better. read more

TLDR: Our stuff arrived with only one (flimsy cheap piece of furniture) damaged. More or less, they were as billed I hired Encore through Trinity moving to move our three bedroom apartment from Chicago to Atlanta. I engaged with Trinity early on (November) and moved in February - Encore was brought in the week before the move. In terms of the people we worked with, all were awesome and I got along well with them. However, they failed to mention certain fees (more than 75ft from end of trailer to drop off is an extra fee), the pickup guys came with the wrong estimate - but this did not matter since you pay for space and I knew the initial estimate was wrong due to a conversation 2 days prior. I wouldnt call them haphazard with our stuff during loading (or unloading) but certainly you can tell they werent always careful with things - I had a box specifically marked "Do Not Stack" and I caught our unloader nearly stacking it (had computer monitors in the box). All in all, the experience was neither pleasant or ugly, it was what it was - a situation asking random people to take my stuff, put it on a truck, and haul it across the country with other people's stuff. I slightly question using a semi to deliver locally since you will certainly limit where you can go and force your client to pay the $500 shuttle fee. We avoided this by having the truck go straight to our storage drop off and then rented a U-Haul to take stuff to our initial primary drop off. Big thing to watch out for here is fees. I feel like, whether intentional or not, they will catch new movers in a bind and force them to pay a fee. We moved 4x in Chicago city but when it came to cross country moving, we were noobs. Not a bad company, but certainly could have made things clearer in terms of expectations. Would I use them again? Only if I dont have enough for a private truck. read more

I understand now the risks of hiring a moving company with my belongings and if you're still reading this- rent a U-Haul and do it yourself. read more

DO NOT USE ENCORE!!! read more

A horrific moving experience. We got the hard sale and were promised that our items (an entire 4-person home) would NOT be outsourced for the final leg of the trip. That's why we signed. Welp, that was a flat-out lie. The delivery was atrocious. And dealing with Encore to receive a refund for the major issues was the worst part really. Don't trust Desiree, who will be assigned to help you with your grievances- I repeat, DO NOT TRUST DESIREE. Still not convinced that this company will ruin it all, including your enthusiasm for the move, your new home floors, and the next 10 months battling with them... then read on for my initial email to Encore after the move. My initial email outlining issues - in the end... we received a check for $260 11 months post-move. We moved an entire home for 4 people. It cost us $9k+. This was a huge and expensive move. - Only two people were sent to unpack the truck and they were clearly NOT professional movers. The man and his teenage son were not in-shape enough to handle this big of a move or even to carry most of our things. -We watched boxes being dropped off the truck multiple times!!! -Boxes labeled "Heavy" were stacked and left on top of boxes labeled "FRAGILE". -A box of china was dropped down 3 steps and 2 plates were broken, we found another box of china labeled "fragile" upside down. -Most boxes were not placed in the correct rooms, or even the correct level of the house despite labeling and my instructions. We spent 4 hours moving boxes to the appropriate rooms the following day. -The older man was rude and smoked IN THE TRUCK WITH OUR THINGS multiple times throughout the move. Our new home smells like cigarettes. He also left our driveway littered with cigarette butts. -The older man also gave up on moving. The last few hours he sat in the back of the truck and watched my children jump on the trampoline while his young son did all the work. -They took so many breaks that the move lasted 8+ hours. -The younger son asked to use the restroom (no problem!!) but then came out laughing to me about how badly he "stunk it up" (seriously?! Gross and unprofessional). -Items were left wrapped in black plastic and moving blankets. -The metal racking that was broken down was not put back together. And to top it all off, we have horrible scratches from boxes begging pushed from the kitchen door through to the dining room. Clear rough scratches across two rooms with two different types of wood flooring. The men then denied that they did this. The path leads directly to the boxes they just pushed across the floor!! But that's not all, the pine floor in the primary bedroom has a 2-foot long GOUGE along 10 planks leading right to where they pushed the dresser (similar marks are at the bottom of the stairs). The men then tried to hustle out of here without any mention of the damage. At the end of the day, we wanted them out of our house and they have zero energy left. I didn't feel comfortable asking them to unwrap and move the boxes to the correct rooms. They weren't in-shape enough to lift another thing. They also forgot to have us check the truck before they left, I remembered that we were not asked to complete that step until after they had gone. We asked the movers to leave the signed paperwork, which included the description of the damage. He left with it and said he had a photo of it, I called him 10 minutes after they left asked him to drive back and place it in our mailbox. We have not received anything. This experience was truly awful. We expect funds to be returned to us for the damage and the terrible experience with these movers. We were sent unprofessional, out-of-shape, movers who didn't even finish the job and left home damage behind. read more

Add me to the list of people who received items later than expected. I had a quick turnaround for my move for a new job from Chicago to South Texas. Because I was in a pinch for my first long-distance move, I used a moving broker based in Florida (Allegiance - also would not recommend). I used Encore's 30-day free storage option from when they picked up my belongings. I needed about 10 days leeway to get down to Texas to receive my items at my new place. I let the broker and Encore know the ideal delivery date to match when I'd arrive in Texas. I was assured by the broker that giving 5-7 days notice to Encore would be plenty for them to make the 2-or-3-day delivery out of storage, especially knowing the date I anticipated being there. This was an outright lie. It is in Encore's contract that it may take up to 30 days to receive items, but I was told repeatedly they strive for 14 days' delivery. They initiated no communication or updates throughout the process. I ended up sleeping on an air mattress with no kitchenware to cook with, living out of my duffelbag until my belongings arrived 20 days after my "earliest move-in date." I finally got a call to say the movers were putting my stuff on the truck, but they gave no real time frame for me to expect them. Surprise! Five days later, the driver called me the night before saying they would be there at 9 a.m. At 8 a.m. I got a call saying they were "an hour out," which ended up being only about 25 minutes. There was also the added $75 at pickup and $150 for "long haul" up one flight of stairs and down a hallway on delivery. I understand it is in the contract, but it's something neither the broker nor movers were up-front about when booking. In fact, the mover on delivery told me the other option if the fee wasn't paid was for them to leave my stuff on the curb. Nice! Luckily, I knew I'd get charged this time and took out enough cash to pay them. Others may not be so fortunate. I only give 2 stars because I did get my stuff eventually, though some of it included minor damages. I'm not sure if there's any moving company out there that isn't shady or irresponsible in handling property, but based on my experience and previous reviews it's highly unlikely I use this company again. read more

After reading some of the reviews here, I'm having trouble reconciling that this could even be the same company. I'll summarize at the end, but the short version is if you're moving and not going to do it yourself, you'd be hard pressed to find a better group of people to deal with. This is the third professional moving service we've hired in our lives and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. So my job moved. Not just a little bit. but my job moved from the Chicagoland area to Arizona. 25 hours away. We're a family of 4 and as it turns out, have accumulated quite a bit of stuff over the past few years. Having had hired professional movers the last time we moved, there was no way we were attempting this on our own. Set up an appointment to have them come out and look at the house after getting a referral from a friend who had used them. A super nice guy named Paul (who I think might be one of the owners) came out with another gentleman and walked through the house with us. They did a basic inventory and calculated what they thought it would cost. They provided some awesome suggestions for packing and such that would allow us to use a smaller truck and save a bit of money on the transport. We were pretty surprised as we had anticipated it being significantly more money for a cross country move than what they came back with. To add another layer of complexity, our house in Illinois was not yet sold, we had a rental in Arizona and the dates were all a little fluid as we'd need to locate and buy another house down south before scheduling the actual move. Encore gave us 1 month of free storage with our move and were reasonable on their rates for successive months. The say of the actual move arrived. The moving crew we had were exhausting to even watch. These guys were on a mission. It was a well choreographed ballet of stuff getting wrapped in moving blankets, disassembled, taped up and organized. Seriously, the organizational skills these guys have were impressive to see. Everything was staged near the truck while one of the crew played mental Tetris and put together the loading plan. In less than half a day, this team had the house completely emptied out (almost 4000 sq ft of stuff), including packing and prepping a number of things. The entire crew was professional, courteous and at least gave the outward appearance of actually caring about the work they were doing with all of our worldly possessions. We signed off on a complete inventory before the truck left and everything went into storage. They even allowed us to drop a couple of other things off at their facility to be added to the truck on the way down. Delivery setup was simple, quick and went off with the same level of organization and sense of urgency we saw in loading out. Encore did right by us. The team was friendly, did their jobs well and took excellent care of us and our belongings. They treated us incredibly well, had great communication and did what they said they were going to do when they said they were going to do it. They also didn't charge us an arm and a leg. Well deserving of a 5 star review. read more

I had the worst experience EVER...I moved from Belleville, IL to Dallas, TX. I did not hire these people but they were assigned through a Florida broker. I did not know until the date of the move as no one was sent out to my home to do an inventory prior to move date. I gave them a list of all of my box sizes/counts, furniture pieces etc. and they quoted a price based on that. The day of the move they added more charges to the quote because of the weight (never discussed). At this point I could only go ahead and pay it as they would not even start loading the truck until it was paid. The guys who loaded the truck seemed professional and wrapped my furniture for added protection. As I had not yet found a house yet in TX they offered to put my belongings in store free for of charge for 1 month, (which I thought was an added bonus) When I was ready to have it brought to Dallas I called them and they gave me an arrival date. This is where it all went wrong. The truck arrived a whole day early and no one at Encore bothered to let me know until the truck was already a few hours away. I had a job interview around the same time the truck would be arriving in my area. I explained this to the company and the did not apologize or even try to accommodate me for the inconvenience. I was able to make it to my interview and got out just before they called to say they were about 15 minutes from my storage unit. Because it was dark, and very cold (January) they worked very swiftly to get everything off the truck and into my storage unit. I was also still wearing a suit and heels from my interview as I didn't have time go home and change into something more comfortable. There was no time to inspect boxes for damages and they left the furniture pads on the furniture. When I got ready to move into my apartment about 6 months later, it was heart breaking what I found. 1. My 65 inch TV that they had boxed in a moving box was damaged and had to be replaced with a new one altogether as it would cost more than it was worth to repair. 2. The night stand had one of the drawer pulls broken off and still have not been able to find the right size hardware to replace it. By the way, it was also wrapped with furniture padding so unsure how this could happen. 3. Box holding the silverware had been replaced (apparently original box was dropped and some silverware missing) 4. At least 4 kitchen boxes missing and glass items broken 5.1 box of clothing missing If you ever use a moving company make sure they don't use day workers or assign you to a company like Encore Moving and Storage. I only gave them 2 stars because they arrived to my original destination on schedule and were quick and courteous. I do not recommend these people to anyone. read more

DO NOT USE! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! read more

Recently, I used the broker company Long Distance Movers to move my belongings from Louisville, KY to Berkeley, CA. When the movers picked up my belongings, I was initially impressed, and I even called the company to express my gratitude. However, when my shipment arrived, nearly everything was destroyed. I have been in contact with Long Distance Movers to let them know what a horrible mistake it is to ever do business with Encore, and to file claims for damages to my property. When the movers arrived, they asked for the payment before showing me the damage to my property, which was dishonest and unfair. Most of what was damaged in the move were books, artwork, and kitchen supplies, as well as the dedicated stand/frame of my piano. I realize that I am bound by the contract which I signed, with insurance covering only 60 cents per pound per article, which means that even though there is thousands of dollars of damage, mostly to a piano, I will likely not receive very much in coverage. I understand that I am bound by the contract I signed, but the service I received from this company is not any way reasonable or normal, and the amount of neglect and disrespect with which my belongings were treated is reprehensible. For this reason, I believe the company owes me a refund of some sort. One expects some things to be damaged in a move across the country. One does not expect to feel so violated, taken advantage of, scammed, and treated with contempt. When the items arrived, the mover insisted that I would be charged a $350 fee for shuttling the items to my apartment (though on Sixth Street near my apartment there is enough room to park an 18-wheeler as long as hazard lights are on), as well as an additional $100 fee for a long walk. These were not part of the original estimate, but I do realize that they were buried in the contract that I signed. However, I do believe it is somewhat brazen to charge all of these fees knowing the condition that my items were in. Before the mover even accepted my money, he was already asking me if he could buy a book from me. This is when I knew something was wrong, because how would he know what books I own if they were safely packed away? This, to me, was a clear indication that the employees of this shipping company had rifled through my things, which is a complete invasion of my privacy and disrespect of my property. Still, I felt trapped. Encore Moving was in possession of my belongings, and I would have to pay to receive them. Still, I was not prepared for the level of disrespect and negligence afforded to my property. The mover began unloading destroyed boxes, as books and appliances were falling out of them. My belongings had to be scraped off the ground and the bed of the truck, and then loaded into garbage cans in order to bring them to my apartment. The damage to these boxes was, at the very least, totally negligent, and at most, intentionally criminal. Most electronic appliances will no longer turn on, a knife rusted, and a cutting board grew mold, indicating that there was some element of water damage. Clothing was ripped, artwork was torn and frames were shattered. The only pieces of furniture that the movers handled were a digital piano and it's bench. The Piano's frame, even though wrapped in a blanket, was broken; it can no longer be sat upright, because of several pieces of wood and screws being totally broken off and lost. The bench was totally missing. Three days later, the mover did drop off the piano bench, after finding it. He called once to make sure I was home, and instead of meeting me, just placed the bench on the side of the road, at a busy intersection, in a part of town where theft is extremely common. Again, this shows a total disrespect of my belongings. He said that he only did so, because he was driving the 18-wheeler and could not find a place to park. There are a few issues with this: 1. there certainly is a place to park; 2. I had already paid a fee to have them shuttle my belongings to me in a smaller truck, therefore I know it is possible that they could have delivered this to me in a more respectful fashion. So, in short, yes I will be filing claims for these damages, even though it will only cover a mere fraction of the damage that was caused. But I also believe that Encore should refund me the money for my move or else they have no business moving anyone's belongings in the future. BEWARE. The pictures speak for themselves. read more

These guys were amazing. When I found out I needed to relocate my family to the southwest from Chicago I was stressed, we called around and got a lot of variance in prices and services. We were confused and scared due to our budget... but we knew we needed help. Overall we couldn't be happier with Encore and this move in general. They stuck to their quote, which was almost half of their competitors. They stuck to our dates. Etc. We felt they were professional and responsive. Thanks to Paul for all of his help and time. They did an amazing job at packing our stuff, not much was broken. They helped unpack us at no additional charge. Making this transition from Chicago to Henderson much easier. We will absolutely recommend. We saved hundreds if not more. read more

I was moving from Chicago to Denver and was very overwhelmed when it came to finding a moving company as I swear if you look at one a thousand spam call you. I decided to go to Angi's list to find trusted moving companies that were local, and came across Encore moving. Desiree from Encore called me, explained exactly how the process worked, was very realistic with time line and cost and possible cost increase. Nothing was hidden. I put down my deposit which she said was completely refundable. Anytime I reached out to her she responded quickly, or would follow up with a call. She honestly made the experience seamless. When the movers came to get my stuff, they were super awesome, came at the exact time they said, double wrapped things and were super nice and very careful. I had read reviews that said that as the movers load the truck, cost can increase so I was terrified of what they were going to try and quote me. But as they were loading my stuff, before they finished loading, they took me out to the truck and explained in detail why my quote would be higher than the original quote (it wasnt much more than the original quote) as they had only alotted for a certain square foot, and my stuff surpassed that square footage. So they gave me the option BEFORE loading the rest of my stuff if I was ok with the slight increase price (which I completely was). I was so impressed by the clear communication they provided me which made me trust them so much more. It took exactly 2 weeks to get my stuff (as they had said it probably would take). The driver called me the day before, as well as Desiree, to let me know they would be delivering it. I knew it would be all cash so I had it all ready for them. There was no issue, they got there once again right on time, and the guy even waved the stair fee for me. I have heard and experienced horror stories with other movers, but that was no where near the case with my experience with Encore. I would 100% use this company again, and recommend it to anyone. My best advice is make sure you go directly to the company. DO NOT USE A BROKER. I can not tell you enough how horrible brokers are and will screw you over. Contact the company directly as they will provide much better communication, customer service and honestly save your sanity all around. My bf went with a broker from another moving company as we were both moving out from chicago to denver, a month later he still doesnt have his stuff, and there is no word from his company on when he will be getting it. I know he regrets not going with Encore like I did. read more

What a nightmare! I was lied to by the salesperson on the phone regarding the dates available, the coverage, everything. They came and packed me up and said it would take 3 or more days to meet me in Florida from Michigan. The salesperson said 24 hours. The worst part though was so many of my items were lost or stolen. Just makes me sick . Boxes broken open, Items wet and ruined. Leather chair cut with a knife. The movers who came to the house were rude, unprofessional and didn't put things together. Made a mess! I would have given this company five stars because the guys who moved my things from Chicago were great! They were very helpful in making sure all my things got onto the truck and not charging me extra fees. The reason I'm giving this company three stars is because the communication was not good. I was under the impression that I would receive my things by the date I told them but when that date came my things were still in Chicago and I was in Texas without anything! No one called me to let me know that my things were not shipped yet. When I called to track my things they did not have a timeframe on when I would get my things. A lady name Desiree I believe was helpful in trying to get my things to me as quickly as possible but I had to buy unnecessary stuff because I didn't know when I would receive my things. Once my things were delivered I was charged with different fees that was not made clear when my things were being picked up. If you don't have cash then they won't help you at all. On top of everything else I had broken dishes and picture frames. In all, the moving company was ok. Their cost value was the cheapest compared to a lot of moving companies but be aware of the extra fees and make sure you are clear on when you would need your things delivered. read more

It is 11/17/22, and I still do not have my furniture. The driver that was supposed to come to drop my furniture off today turned back because I was told I would need a U-Haul truck because the Semi would not fit on the apartment complex. I am beyond frustrated with this company. This has been an ongoing issue for almost a month now. On October 28th, I reached out to Safe Ship, thinking it was a moving company to move my furniture from Aurora, IL, to Atlanta, GA. I did not know this was a brokerage company, nor was I informed that Safe Ship is a brokerage company. John told me I would have my furniture the following Tuesday, about three days. When I reached out to Safe Ship the following week, I was told it should be there by the end of the week. I then receive a call from Encore moving company, informing me that it takes up to 10-14 days to move my furniture to my home. I was told the driver picked up the furniture from Next Day Storage in Aurora, IL, on 10/29/2022. My total was supposed to be $1922.96. I paid a deposit of $647.00 that I later found out was a brokerage fee and did not go toward the total amount for the moving company. I then paid around 1700 dollars but was later told the remaining balance was 999.00 dollars after receiving an email on 11/7 because the items were more than expected. It was supposed to be 300-something cubic feet but ended up being over 500 cubic feet, according to Alison. Taking it as a loss, I agreed to pay the 999.00 because, at this point, I just wanted my furniture. At this time, according to the email, they were loading my household goods to be delivered. But I was told it was loaded on 10/29. Alison agrees to allow me to pay with a credit card. She informed me that once we have a delivery date for the driver, we will make our payment. On 11/10, we received an email from Encore Moving Company, "We will be departing shortly. Your driver will reach out to you when he is 12-24 hours away. We have not left yet, due to planned maintenance taking longer than planned. We will be departing in the next 48 hours, is what we are getting from dispatch. If there is anything else that we can help with, please let us know." After several days we reached out again to find out when the furniture would be delivered. After several calls, we spoke with Desiree on 11/16, who informed me that the driver caught Covid, and they had to find a new driver, sanitize the truck, and so on. She then said the driver was in Tennessee and would be delivering today (11/17/22). She said he is in a semi-truck and may be unable to get into the apartment complex, and we would have to pay an additional 500 dollars for some shuttle equipment to load the furniture into the apartment. I said not. She began to argue that they would not be able to drop off the furniture, and we would still have to pay the remaining balance. We agreed to get a U-Haul truck if needed, but they would not be able to unload our furniture off the truck into the apartment. While this conversation was happening, she had not told us when the driver would deliver to know when to get the truck or be at home. She then called her manager, Melissa, on another line, where she told Melissa that my sister and I were threatening her. I was completely thrown back because not one time in that recorded conversation was Desiree threatened. At this point, I feel she is racist and using the angry Black woman trope against me for being upset about an ongoing issue of getting my furniture. When she called out about the threatening comment, she started backtracking what she said and wanted to rush the conversation. It's funny that she would say out of her mouth that she felt threatened when she had a complete attitude during the entire conversation. She was annoyed at me being upset; it was insane. She again said that the driver was trying to get the job done so he could move on, but again did not give a time when the driver would arrive. When I spoke to the driver earlier that day, he told me that between 10-12p, but when I spoke with Desiree, he was in TN. Then they said they would try to see if the driver could get the truck onto the complex. Why would I rent a truck when they were still trying to figure out if the semi would fit on the complex? She then called to tell me that I would have 15 minutes to pay the remaining balance or the driver was leaving. The driver did not call me to say he was on the way; he did not give me the time he would be pulling up, nothing. No call was made to give us time even to get a U-Haul truck, which we shouldn't even need given the fact we are paying a moving company to move our stuff from their truck to the apartment complex. The company should have some backup options because not all areas allow semi-trucks. Most residential areas do not allow semi-trucks, so why are no other options available? This experience has been the absolute worst. From the brokerage company, which I later found was a terrible company according read more

Well, I must say, that my experience is far different than the other reviewers on this page. I did look at these reviews and that did make me hesitant to use Encore, but I had a close friend that vouched for them, so I decided to go ahead and use them for my move to the East Coast. When I initially called I spoke with a very professional gentleman named Brian. He provided me with all of the information I needed including pricing and logistics. I let him know the dates for the move and he walked through their availability, how ling it would take and that the foreman would be there that day to walk me through everything. When the foreman showed up, he reiterated the process with me, went over the paperwork, reviewed the pricing and was transparent about any additional costs after they did a thorough walk through of my house and items. After we agreed on everything they got right to work. The total time frame given to me was 1 - 2 weeks, it came right in between there, 10 days later. They put the boxes in the appropriate rooms for me and they even assembled the furniture for me. I had a few items that had a minor scratch or two, but nothing that was of major concern. They offered me the opportunity to create a claim for the items that had minor damage, but there wasn't enough to warrant me going through that process. Overall everything went great, received items when expected, everything I cared about was in great shape, they kept in constant contact to update me on the status and I really appreciated the transparency they provided. I would highly recommend using them for your next move! read more

The worst moving experience we have ever had when moving employees. We contracted with Encore Moving Services of Algonquin through a broker, who then gave Encore instructions to pick up property on 3/31 for a 5/1 move in. They were cery late, loaded the furnishings, then produced a contract and required a signature. In the fine print were many fine print rules, but it was 11pm, standing in the street, with all belongings in truck, they signed contract. In language fine print was 30 business days to deliver from date, not 30 days as was implied in all conversations prior to selecting Encore. Of course there is a broker, employees 1st big move accross country, 18 month old and new husband in tow. Employee informs broker they were leasing beginning May 1st, and since contracts were signed in March believed and were promised furnishings were in transit soon and they would arrive May 1st. With that confidence, the employee moved into the house and began calling the broker and eventually Encore for some understandings. Days passed, no furnishings, no communication from Encore. Frustrated, disappointed, and angry at the lack of empathy this supply chain showed for a young mother, her child, and their struggles to get their belongings, employer and now its CEO became involved, and multiple calls over next couple weeks, to all to get the truck to the address finally Fri, May 22. Upon getting the news, we the employer cut a bank issued cashiers check to present to movers upon arrival. Chase Bank was the issuer. The movers refused the cashiers check and forced the CEO to call Chase, get a manager to reversed out the cashiers check, and produce $2200 in cash. Upon returning with cash, employee is advised it will be another $80 for the hour they waited, and again refused to unload the truck until she returned to the bank and retrieved $80. Further they refused to wear masks nor gloves when in residence during COVID 19 even tho it is state and county law to wear a mask in public. Endangering the welfare of employees, creating liability for us, and the horrible manner in which Encore communicates, promises and does not deliver on said promises, excuses themselves and places blame on brokers and employees when asked for customer service. Wncore Moving Services is a company that consistently said what they did, and then failed in every way to do so. Any response to this review from Encore will be inauthentic, just as their representation and customer service lies are. Buyer, Employers, anyone who values integrity and exceptional American companies should absolutely avoid Encore Moving Services and the nightmare that will follow. read more

Hands down the worst customer experience I've ever had across any industry. I scheduled a move from Chicago to Texas. I was slated to move-in March 25th. They got my stuff on March 18th, loaded into truck, was told 2-3 bus days from first available move in date. We're now five days past and they still can't give me a timeline on when my stuff will be delivered They refuse to answer my calls because surprise, surprise I'm agitated and angry. Is it possible that being stranded in a city that is rapidly becoming a hot bed for coronavirus without any indication of when my possessions will be delivered. I appreciate these are tough times with global pandemic, but my uber eats delivery guy seems to be brave enough to transport a chicken parm for a $3 tip, i'd think a mover could brave it out for a mortgage payment. I called three other movers and all had guys ready to go this week. Have a company coming tomorrow to take stuff out of the truck to do their job for them. But the pain doesn't stop here. After already paying these clowns their deposit and 50% of moving fees, to not move my stuff anywhere, they want another $500 to release MY possessions. Truly horrid experience. I wouldn't wish this upon my worst enemies. Avoid this company like you avoid the coronavirus. read more

HORRENDOUS HORRIBLE DISGUSTING COMPANY. The rest of the negative reviews here pretty much sum up my experiences as well - but this company is literally a joke. I have worked in customer service my entire life and these people should be embarrassed at their efforts of "customer service". The entire company is full of lying con artists who are truly the lowest of low. They don't care about you, your stressful move, your belongings, or your time. What type of company provides someone 12-24 hours notice of their moving drop off in a SEMI truck? My city requires 3 days notice for a semi truck permit because any REPUTABLE moving company would provide proper notice of the drop off day. Encore is such a joke and their entire staff needs to do better. $5000 down the drain - I recommend using two men and a truck! read more

If I could give this company -5 stars, I would. This is the most corrupt business I have ever dealt with and working with them caused my move across the country (Chicago to Southern California) to be one of the most stressful times of my life. I scheduled my furniture pick up for September 4th as I was planning to begin the drive several days later - on the 9th. Over a month prior, I had booked the move through a broker called Allegiance Moving and Storage. I went through every single item in my apartment as well as a small 10x10 storage unit so that we could get the most accurate price possible. The broker I spoke to quoted me a price of around $2,800 and promised that they aren't like other companies who will charge a lot more when they arrive to collect your belongings. So, fast forward to September 4th, and the movers arrive. After doing a quick walk through my apartment, one of the movers shakes his head and says that everything was entered inaccurately on the sheet and that the move is going to cost me a lot more than quoted. Being in a bind, I did not have any other choice. There was no time to find another moving company and I needed the furniture out of my apartment that day. Encore took advantage of the fact that they knew I would have to pay whatever price was quoted. After viewing my storage unit, the new price was given to me - $8,046. As they were packing, one of the movers continued to sexually harass me to the point where I had to call a friend over so I did not have to be alone with him. He kept making comments about smoking weed, drinking, and taking me on a date. He also made a "pussy" joke to his partner which I found extremely repulsive and inappropriate. In addition, he kept making comments to his partner about how much I supposedly liked the harassment. At one point, he was going to take off his shirt to show one of his tattoos. Being a young lady who lives alone, I felt very vulnerable in his presence. While they were loading some boxes into the truck outside, I looked out of my window and saw that the mover was smoking a cigarette in the truck with my belongings. I have strong allergies to tobacco and cannot afford to have my items smelling like smoke when they arrive. Once everything was packed, I was told that I needed to pay half of the price up front (about $3,500) in order for them to take my belongings. After they left, I reached out to the manager at Allegiance Moving and Storage to explain my situation. He also reached out to Desiree who is a manager at Encore. They both expressed concern, apologized for the situation, and promised a solution. About a week later, I got a call from someone promising significant compensation for my troubles. After not hearing from anyone for a couple of weeks after that, I reached out again to find out where my belongings were (they didn't know) and if they had come up with a solution for the astronomical price I had to pay. Desiree told me that they had suspended the mover that was harassing me. As far as price goes, they had repacked my truck and were so generous as to give me, wait for it, $400 off the price. $400! After tripling my quote, that was all they could manage. I was then told by Encore that the rest of the discount would be coming from Allegiance. After calling Allegiance, a lady told me that all the charges were in fact correct and that they would not be doing anything about my price. It is not a matter of the charges being correct, it is a matter of criminal business practice being rectified. At pick up, I was told the movers would arrive in about 2 weeks - my furniture did not arrive until almost 4 weeks after pick up. When the new movers arrived, they informed me that I would be getting charged another $200 for them to use the elevator and walk down the hallway. I told him I would take it up with his boss because I was not paying another cent. He told me that they could not give me my belongings until I had paid that price. After sleeping on an air mattress and eating off of paper plates for 4 weeks, I was desperate to get my belongings back. As they were unloading the truck, items were checked off of an inventory list. However, when they were done unloading, I accounted for 14 pieces (boxes, etc.) that were not accounted for. When I asked the mover what to do about that, he shrugged his shoulders and said that he didn't work for Encore. So, here I am several weeks later, still trying to figure out which items are missing. One of the boxes that was filled with treasured childhood books had been completed soaked with water at some point during the move. All of the books were damaged and some were growing mold. Another box, containing my most prized possession, had either been crushed or handled very roughly as everything inside was completely broken. I could go into so many more details about this disgusting company and my experience. Join me in a lawsuit - let's take Encore DOWN! read more

I just used Encore to move from Chicago to Colorado and highly recommend their service! Moving across country is NOT cheap but their prices were great and they were super accommodating. They got my stuff to Colorado the day I moved there and were responsive and helpful along the way. Desiree was my point person at Encore and was a delight to work with. If I leave Colorado, I would definitely use them again. Thanks, Encore! read more

Avoid using Enore. -"Insurance" is terrible- have to go through a slow 3rd company that makes it as inconvenient as possible to file. The standard insurance is a joke, you get $0.60 per pound per object. This equates to about $18 if they destroy your dresser- regardless of how valuable your dresser is. -Encore hired a carrier to transport my goods. The carrier held my possession hostage until I paid him in cash. Super sketchy and super inconvenient, its 2019 ffs. -They lost a desk top and numerous other objects read more

In October, 2017, I contracted with another company who claimed they didn't subcontract, but they did On the day of my move to another State, Encore Moving & Storage arrived to do the move. I had already shipped my car & given up my apt so had no choice. The amount quoted from the original company was not accurate as she didn't include I was moving out of a elevated building & moving into an elevated building which they charge more because of the time. I had more furniture & boxes than estimate than the orinal cimpany quoted to Encore. Fortunately Encore's team leader David Trajillo was able to take the money orders I had & the balance to be paid on arrival in the new State 2,000 miles away. Their packing was excellent & crew was totally professional of hours at getting my items out my building. They arrived on date date quoted. I will definitely will use them again. Jessie read more

PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I agree 100% with everything that Kurt mentioned in the review below and have had a similar experience. My original quote was less than half of what they ended up charging me the day of my move. Total scam to get me in a vulnerable position where I didn't have a choice come moving day. Communication and customer service is non-existent. In fact, I have no idea how this company is still in business. I don't write reviews just to write reviews, the experience has to be horrible or fabulous and this was the worst. Context: I was moving from Chicago, IL to Livermore, CA. I was told over the phone that my move would be around $2,800. Due to the decent quote, we went ahead and said OK. Right before the movers came to my house, I got a second phone call and the quote moved to $3,500. OK, I thought, maybe the first quote wasn't quite accurate. I was told that my things would be picked on on a Tuesday. They didn't show, so we called and they said they weren't coming until Wednesday. This is a huge deal when you are moving across country on a timeline, or moving in general. We had to push back our move date. When the movers finally got to my apartment a day late, suddenly the cost to ship my things was $4,500. What was I going to do at that point, say no? They even tried to get me to pay more money when they had all my things in the truck except for one last piece. This was about the same time that the foreman asked me to put in the paperwork that they started my move earlier so they could have extra pay for that day. I was told I was charged by weight over the phone, the movers said it was by cubic feet. The movers also said I would receive my items in 4-14 days. My apartment was left in shambles. Tape and tape rolls were left all over the place and they didn't even bring all the pieces of furniture I asked to be packed up. We purposely planned a 4 day road trip out to California as with the timeline I was given (4-14 days), I thought it would be perfect. We would arrive, have time to do a few things, and then a few days later all of our things would arrive. After a week with no word from the moving company, I called to see where my things were. I was told they were still in Chicago. I was shocked. I was then told that even though I was told 4-14 days for delivery, they didn't guarantee that and in fact it could take up to 30 days to deliver. This was news to me as when I talked to the foreman the day of the move and asked about the 30 day note on the contract, he said it never takes that long and they just have to say that legally, but my stuff would arrive 4-14 days from the day it was picked up. I mentioned this to the "customer service rep" that I got on the phone after calling 10 times and leaving messages with no callback, and she simply said that he was wrong and shouldn't have told me that. Great. I finally received my things 28 days after we left Chicago. 28 days. During that time no one would talk to me, answer my calls, tell me an estimated delivery date, or respond at all. Because the timeline wasn't what I was told, I was in another country for work when everything arrived. When I got back home, I was greeted to smashed boxes, furniture with rubs and dings, and furniture that had not been put together (other than prepackaging all my items in boxes, wrapping my mirrors, pictures, and televisions, I was told they would take care to wrap my furniture and take it apart/put it together). Around half of my breakable items were broken. This included heirlooms, items from other countries, glassware, pottery, and dishes. A lot of these items aren't even replaceable. I packed everything in these boxes with care. I used towels, bubble wrap, extra padding as I didn't want anything to happen in transport. I made sure to mark the boxes "FRAGILE" and "GLASS/CRYSTAL" so that they would know what they were moving. Clearly they threw these boxes around with no care at all with the rate of broken items I received. Every single piece of furniture is marked up in someway. Some pieces were ruined, some I will salvage despite the scratches and dings. I've already bought new hardware for cabinets due to knobs being broken off. I'm working with their third party insurance company to gather a list of all items that were broken and ruined in the move. I have no hope of ever receiving any money in return. I do hope that this post reaches anyone considering using this company. There were no reviews for me at the time I did research and I hope this prevents you from having the same trouble and stress in your life that I have had. It's not worth it. read more

Rating: (1 out of 5 stars) Before you decide to use Encore Moving & Storage, please read about my experience, which involves not just poor service but outright fraudulent inducement. I chose Encore based on their repeated verbal assurances that my move would be direct, with no additional shuttle service or fees required. These were not offhand comments; they were clear, repeated promises by several company representatives. Here's the breakdown of how Encore Moving & Storage deceived me: Fraudulent Inducement: From the start, Encore's staff convinced me that no additional fees would apply, specifically the shuttle service fee. I trusted their professional assurances, which turned out to be completely false. This deceit influenced my decision to sign the contract, under the belief that the service would be provided as described. Bait and Switch Tactic: After ensuring my commitment, Encore did a complete about-face. Upon delivery, they demanded an additional $350 for a shuttle service they had previously assured me would not be necessary. This classic bait-and-switch was not only unethical but left me in a position where I had to make a quick and inconvenient decision. Monetary and Time Loss: Opting against paying the deceptive fee, I used my own resources to collect my belongings from a location 20 minutes away. The process took me away from my work, where I value my time at $290 per hour, leading to a direct loss of $870 over 3 hours. This is on top of the $740 I had already unjustly paid. Company's Indifference and Refusal to Amend: When I contested the additional fee based on their initial assurances, Encore's response was dismissively clear: "If it isn't in writing, we can't honor that. This is a common fee. Just pay." There was no attempt to solve the issue, apologize, or even discuss a fair resolution. Total Loss and the Case for a Full Refund: Between the money paid and the valuable time lost, my total damages amounted to $1,610. Despite this, I am only requesting a full refund of the $740 I paid, a conservative ask given the full spectrum of losses and the deceptive nature of our agreement. Conclusion: This situation goes beyond poor service; it's about being lured into a contract under false pretenses and then left to deal with the consequences alone. Encore Moving & Storage's behavior is a textbook case of fraudulent inducement, where a business makes false assurances to secure a contract, then reneges on those assurances when it suits them. I urge anyone looking for a moving company to avoid Encore Moving & Storage. Their lack of transparency, accountability, and respect for customers is alarming. Protect yourself and choose a company that values honesty and integrity. read more

I used Encore Moving and Storage LLC to help me move a storage unit that had been sitting in the Chicago area while I live in Florida. I have never used a moving service to do something like this for me, but with my work schedule it was one of the only options. I was incredibly nervous about this move because the unit had a lot of old family "treasures" in it that I was very worried about, but Lee (the sales person) assured me that everything was okay. Imagine my surprise when the price I was quoted was right within my budget and especially affordable. So I went ahead and scheduled the move and set a date. When the time came the movers were extremley nice and suprisingly fast at loading up the truck and making sure that everything was carefully packed and wrapped. They even wrapped things that I would never have considered like the metal posts of a bookshelf - apparently they can get scratched and messed up. I should also mention that Encore had arranged to have my stuff stored with them for a few months while I prepared my house down in Flordia for the incoming furniture. Fast forward to moving day and I was a nervous wreck! What if my stuff was broken? Or even worse? I held my breath waiting for the truck to arrive. I recieved a call from the moving crew, Jefferson, Alfonso and Victor and we set up a time for them to arrive and start the unloading process. I was not looking forward to this. I don't know if you have the same TV company we have here in Florida, but I was not looking forward to sitting around all day waiting for them to arrive. But guess what...they showed up when they said they were going to! I was so happy to see these guys, and all my stuff! Not only were they super fast at unloading everything, but they even set up/assembled the bed and the bookshelf. They were in and out in a flash and I was able to get on with the rest of my day. I was very surprised and incredibly happy with the service that Encore provided to me. I absolutely recommend them if you need anything moved. Thank you Encore! read more

Encore?? More like leave mid-show... These movers illegally blocked my driveway all day without permission. I called the office and spoke to Carrie to ask for a pathway out, then called back a few minutes before their office was to close to verify they were able to contact their drivers since I was seeing no progress being made. She assured me she told them to move. Two hours later, the boxes were stacked even higher. I went to leave and the driver started arguing with me and refused to move the truck until the police arrived. One, if these were professionals, they would have double checked with my neighbors that they had permission to be there. Two, the young man would not have argued with me or yelled at me no matter the situation. Three, they would not have told me to call the police in order for them to move their truck. If anyone knows how it feels to be blocked in or cornered by two men, (one who was a hot-headed jerk); when 'flight' is removed from a fight or flight scenario, you know this was not a comfortable situation to be in. On top of everything else, they lied to the police twice about the situation knowing it was four against one. Since I did not request they be given a citation because I was already late because of them, I still wanted to say that the young man in the picture below is not someone they should want representing their company and not someone you do not want in your home with your belongings. P.S. as he was throwing his fit, he dropped a box of the truck and didn't bother to look for damage. read more

I unfortunately had to hire Encore through Safe Ship after being scammed by another moving company (Van Lines, 0/10 do not recommend). However, Encore was not any better. To start, SafeShip severely under quoted the job and because of this Encore took the opportunity to more than double their quote. Fine. While packing the furniture, I asked that things not be disassembled since no one will re-assemble upon delivery. This was ignored and now I have to fish through miscellaneous packaging to find all the parts and pieces of my furniture. While the crew that packed and loaded everything were more than kind, they did not differentiate between what was going into storage and what was coming to our new apartment. D Day: The driver was over two hours late! Which is a huge problem because I was only able to reserve a morning delivery from 8 - 12. The driver hired three guys to help with moving items into our new place, two of them were okay but one of them has obviously not bathed for at least week. The stench made me gag. Again, the drivers and the movers were kind, hard-working people. But the idiot I spoke with on the phone does not know the definition of customer service or providing customer satisfaction. All of the 1 star reviews are accurate and they still have done absolutely nothing to try and change that point of view. Going as far as saying "she gave me a 1 star review, I'm not going to talk to her". Typical entitled mid-western attitude that I'm glad I'm moving far away from. read more

BUYER BEWARE! We used Encore Moving and Storage because they were assigned to us through a broker. Our house was over 3300 square feet, plus a finished basement and they arrived with a box truck and said they would be finished in 6 hours. Our things did not fit in the truck and they had to come back to finish. Our closing was scheduled for Thursday, the first load was done Monday with no assurance of when they could come back, causing extra stress in an already stressful situation. This was our 6th professional move and by far the worst experience we have ever had. We paid to have our things professionally packed and moved. The lack of care for our things was appalling. Wardrobe boxes were not use correctly, all of our clothes were shoved into the big boxes with hangers that got tangled, things were not wrapped and many things were broken. I have many photos to demonstrate the horrible packing job. Boxes were not labeled, so we did not know where to put the boxes when they finally arrived. Our things did not arrive for over 3 weeks, and we were given a 2 hour notice telling us they were on the way. For the first time, we need to file a claim for broken things, some of which are irreplaceable. We were hoping they would work with us and reimburse us for at least the packing, which again was not professional, but they are not willing to work with us. I could go on, but I will just say avoid this company, there are plenty out there who will do the job right. read more

I recently moved from Wisconsin to Nevada and I used Encore Moving and Storage. Overall, they are a great company and a terrific value. I was contacted by a sales person named Lee and he was very friendly and helped me to figure out how much the cost of the move would be. He was very upfront about charges for packing and additional services like protection of my TV's and glass tops for my furniture. I updated my inventory with him a few times and he always advised me about any price changes because of my additional items. On the day of the move I was contacted by the driver who showed up on time with a truck with the Encore logo on the side. The movers were very friendly and worked hard to prepare my things for the move. They took great care of my furniture with blue thick blankets. They told me to expect delivery of my things in 7-14 business days in Nevada. I was happily surprised to get a call after only 12 days that my belongings would arrive the next day. I was in constant contact with their customer service representative while my stuff was in transit and never had a problem getting a hold of them or getting a call back. All in all, the move went great. They made it as stress free as it can be moving half way across the Country. I would definitely recommend using them to my friends and family. Thanks for making my move affordable and stress free as possible. Encore guys are Great! read more

I learned my lesson my last move , unknowingly using a broker. This time I went directly to the moving company. ENCORE. Desiree the General Mgr. was a dream to work with. Very professional and on top of things. The estimate was very fair. I added a couple of items and they barely charged me anymore. The packers were THE BEST! Took a lot of care. Although I did end up with a few items damaged - it was the best move I have experienced. The crew that unloaded the truck at my destination was also very professional and personable. Be sure to always pack these guys some food, snacks as they drive long distances and need nourishment. Tipping is always appreciated as well. They are worth it! I come from the service industry and know this. I have already referred a colleague of mine there in Algonquin. Encore is definitely who she will call she said after I told her about my experience. Whatever you do do NOT answer all the spam that you will receive when trying to find a moving company. I had a couple of fellas try to convince me they were not brokers and that they had a 5.0 rating with BBB. When I checked myself, they did not! So do your homework!! Do not believe a word they tell you. I researched considerably and then found Encore! read more

Never in my life have I had such pleasant dealings with a business that I felt compelled to write a review, so I'm going all out on this one. I thought dealing with shadiness, changing prices, theft, and tardiness were a staple of most moving companies. Then I hired Encore to move me and my family and I was more than pleasantly surprised. These guys are super professional and a dream to work with in comparison to any other mover I've ever used. Some reasons as to why working with them was a pleasure: A. They wrapped everything we owned so well I could have thrown my china into the deepest part of the grand canyon and climbed down and had a tea party. B. Not once did the price change. Most movers will bait and switch and play games and all that - not with these guys, model americans that could make Abe Lincoln look like a compulsive liar. C. This one is a little unrelated to business practices, but when the truck arrived at my new residence - 2.5 hours early may I add - pretty sure they were playing Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd and I knew immediately I'd never even think about using another moving company. I have a suspicion about some of the negative reviews. I used a broker who hired out Encore. The broker, Long Distance Movers (if anyone is comparing), was absolute scum and lied at every turn to me. Encore, however, was my saving grace which is why I'm wondering if some of these reviews are of a terrible broker than this phenomenal moving company. Allison and Brian were spectacular at communicating with me when LDM didn't. Allison especially worked with me to talk me down a ledge and calmly explain what was happening. I don't think I would have stayed sane through the move without her! The pick up driver and helper were beyond amazing. They took great care of everything and I felt confident about watching my stuff leave with them. When my stuff was dropped off, everything was carefully brought in. Only a glass mug arrived broken and that was due to my terrible packing skills. They really were so amazing and the negative reviews astonish me. I would happily recommend them to any of my friends and hope you'll skip a broker and go straight to them! Tell Allison that Colleen sent you! ;) read more

Our move from The Tampa Bay Area to Northwest GA started with Gulf Coast Van lines in Tampa. They coordinated our move by picking up our items promptly date and time as was indicated. Items were wrapped, packaged and cushioned. The team was very professional and polite from the beginning. Follow up was excellent. Our items were transported from FL to GA by Encore Moving and Storage, LLC. The two men who arrived with our belongings were Pierre and Abe. They unloaded items at our house in Marietta, GA and then took the remainder of the items to a storage facility about a mile down the road. Abe backed that 18 wheeler into that storage facility in a minute. They unloaded our items into the storage unit while I watched. In the entire move from beginning to end, we were very pleased. Nothing was broken and my wife's prized furniture was not damaged in any way. Pierre and Abe were wonderful, professional and polite throughout the delivery. Thank you Gulf Coast Van Lines and Encore Moving and Storage for a job well done. To Pierre and Abe of Encore, our sincere appreciation. Thank you. read more

My wife and I just relocated from Chicago to Las Vegas using Encore moving and storage. My contact salesperson was Desiree. She immediately made me feel like this move, which I was dreading, was going to be o.k. She was knowledgeable, understanding and very soothing to work with. It took a really short time to get my pricing and I signed the contract quickly. She was great!. The day of my move, the foreman, David was equally great. This was really stressful, moving years of things, but David and his crew were great. They actually had to reopen boxes that had items that I needed to take withe me instead of the movers, because I left them laying out and they had packed them, as I forgot to tell the movers to leave these items. They unpacked this with a smile. As long as you read the contract, as you obviously should, there will be no surprises. Its straightforward. My experience overall was beyond friendly, professional, and straightforward. Thanks to the people I mentioned for making this a great experience!! Thanks again Mark read more

Very bad experience they were hired by the moving Co phoenix transportation to move my belongings and I was told phoenix don't hire contractors they do their own moving come to find out that was a lie. I also found out that phoenix was going out of business due to me having problems getting my belongings delivered at quoted price. When I finally get them to deliver my belongings Encore/Midwest moving & storage they had wrapped my leather furniture so tight it damaged it real bad crinkled /wrinkled it beyond repair. I will never recommend them this was my first and last experience with any moving co. I have pictures if I can post them I will. Good thing I taped my boxes so good they couldn't go through them like others have said they did. I see they responded on Google but if you reviewd/have my file why should I contact you. If you want to resolve this by compensating me fairly for damages you have my contact info don't make it seem like you have done nothing wrong and tried to fairly compensate. You know it's worth more. read more

8/19/17 pick-up in CA, supposed to be in VA 9/1 (Sales rep, Kevin assured date). 9/1 no delivery; each call stated truck en route. 9/4 after multiple calls, receive email from Kayla T stating ENTIRE TRUCK stolen from Las Vegas 8/28. They never said belongings would sit in Vegas. Belongings missing for TWO WEEKS, Midwest didn't notify me! NIGHTMARE -- police reports filed, weeks of unanswered messages/emails. All requests for claim forms ignored. 9/13 Kayla T calls - truck recovered, all my belongings found (LIES). Two more weeks; unanswered calls; detective threatens Possession Stolen Property Felony charges. TWO MORE WEEKS PASS. My husband finally gets owner; 10/11 LESS THAN 50% brought back to CA - ALL VALUABLES/ELECTRONICS GONE. Many boxes opened and retaped. Midwest refuses to refund money! Midwest stores in trucks ON STREET IN VEGAS; NO GATE, NO SECURITY, NO SURVEILLANCE! Multiple companies use same trucks/location! DO NOT HIRE MIDWEST MOVING, ENCORE MOVING, EXECUTIVE or WEST COAST MOVING, REVOLUTION MOVERS. read more

Please do yourself a favor and do NOT use this company. We moved from Chicago to Las Vegas and though we did get our stuff within a reasonable time frame we had a lot of broken and missing items that were blatantly stolen. As in riffled through and pocked out! STOLEN newer electronics (TV soundbar, PS4, expensive Bluetooth speakers,iPad), nice set of kitchen knives.. a commemorative silver spoon missing out of its box. BROKEN bicycles. BROKEN bed frame. Of course you could file a claim with their third party service however what they don't explain to you at the time of signing is that you basically signed your belongs away for 60 cents a lb. Rendering it not worth the hassle for what you might get back. It angers me that a company is regularly taking advantage of people and I only wish I read the Yelp reviews prior to using the service. With other options out there, please don't give these criminals your business. read more

We first made contact w/ Encore after doing a quick search on the internet for moving companies out of Chicago. Desiree returned our call within 15 minutes gave us a rough estimate of the move. After doing some comparison we chose Encore and I'm grateful we did. Their estimates and timeframes were accurate. We had some really heavy items we had to pay extra for, and they had informed me ahead of time. Pete was the foreman of the moving crew and he was professional, explained the entire process before he started. Overall my family is pleased with the value, and the service we received. After reading some of the other reviews on here we were worried about damage and loss but that was a non-issue. Relocating my family to the pnw was much less stressful than I had anticipated. We will definitely be recommending these guys! read more

Encore moved my family and worldly possessions from IL to NV. I was concerned after reading the reviews, and we decided to do the packing ourselves. Saved some coin doing that. Desiree was always in touch, she made this review a must do on our end. We will definitely be recommending them. I love small businesses that compete with the big boys, and we decided on Encore over their big name competitors based on price alone. They offer big value. Period. We won't be moving anytime soon, the warmth of the southwest is "it" for us. Almost none of our furniture was damaged. They used blankets for our larger items. The move guys were professional and punctual. Did have to play phone tag at one point, but service was spotty. All in all. Great value. Browne family recommended! read more

In summary: Lost $500 worth of my belongings Sent me to a 3rd party claims company for refund 3 months and 10 calls later I am offered $198 for lost items Tried to call in advance 2x to see what the stair fee was, no response. Day of move they try to charge an extra $500 for stairs. Tried to charge us for 10 flights when we live on the 5th floor. Got a mistaken call from their customer service rep thinking I was filing a law suit- NOPE! Must have been another one of your highly dissatisfied customers. It's disappointing how little accountability there is in this VERY broken industry. Wish I would have saved the $3,000 and moved myself. Customer service rep- spare me the response unless you wanna pay in full for what YOU lost Byeeeeeeee read more
