We hired this company for total tree removal then decided to just cut to beginning of canopy & thin out 5 redwoods. Called & emailed owner Lucas to ask for price adjustment he said of course it will be less I'll get that to you & told me he would see me on Wednesday. The Forman Chris showed up & the first thing he said was this job is the same as the quote before bc it's going to take longer. I said wait a minute, WHAT? NO. I told him no work until I got the new price. I discussed this with Lucas I never received adjustment so I called & he agreed to drop the price down. I went back out to tell the Forman that I really just wanted the tree to grow back as a bush not a tree & he told me if I cut it any shorter it could die like the dead one in our front yard. Wait, what? It's got green branches all over how is it dead? He showed me the stump, it was rotting, so I said forget it, just do what we planned, cut at the beginning of canopy. After I came back out he refused to speak to me, would not let me speak to the crew, talked over me, told me to call Lucas, told me I had to apologize to him. Wait, WHAT??? FOR WHAT??? My conversation & agreement was with the owner, not this guy who from the jump wanted to charge me more and more money for placing cones, for not stepping on or killing my just planted Rosemary bushes in one section. I asked that all limbs be cut at an angle & he sarcastically said very loudly okay lady! If you want all your trees to look ridiculous they can look ridiculous I don't care! This Baboon claimed that we hemmed him up for thinking for a minute that we wanted to go shorter, my husband banged on the window to say no do not cut that short, one of the guys had his saw leaning on the lower spot of the trunk. We have dogs/cats that we locked inside for this very noisy appointment & it's all my husband could think to do was to bang on the window. At this point with everything the Forman said to me, the utter AUDACITY I called Lucas, no answer. I left a text stating that this man was no longer welcome on my property. The entire time since the moment he walked through the gate he was telling me the job was going to cost more, the job was harder than the original estimate, the job was the same, but would take longer bc of how the limbs were being cut. WHAT??? We got a quote to remove 5 redwood trees & 11 privets. We were doing neither. We were cutting off the branches instead. Noway this was a more difficult job. This is a bait/switch scheme & both of these men are in on it. Lucas called me back and berated me for thirty minutes telling me that he believed every single thing his Forman said. He had the audacity to threaten that we are tree men, we are tough and if you were a dud...REALLY? If I were dud you would what? Kick my azz? He then proceeded to tell me I was a gaslighting miserable person who didn't want to pay her bill, that this is how I operated. These men were furious that I halted the work until I got Lucas to agree on the price. The entire time his Forman Chris complained that this job should be much more than what he suspected Lucas charged me & that Lucas never charges people enough money & then he had the balls to ask me how much was I even paying for this job anyway??? I have been psychoanalyzed by an uneducated tree cutter telling me that I have all kinds of psychological problems because of what his foreman said & did. Giant gaping hole in my three redwood trees that can never be fixed. Left all the branches/stumps behind & over the fence on neighbors property. What a mess. Lucas told me over and over he did not want my money that he wanted to cut ties & refer me to someone else & I told him I would pay him if he personally came here and finished the job and cleaned up all the mess Chris left behind. I have yet to hear back. I read that this company does not carry the proper insurance to cover anything on the job so I will be reporting them to the proper authorities. What a total NIGHTMARE. The most unprofessional men are in the trade. No manners, no class, totally dishonest creeps. read more

We woke up to a 6am Sunday emergency (one of our old oak trees fell on our driveway, crushing our car and blocking us in!). We called 3 places. Lucas was the first to not only answer at 7am but say "yep, Ill be there". I'm all about trusting action over words. By 930am Sunday, Lucas had cut a path to safely leave the driveway, and talked through a plan with us for the following day, so we could prevent damage to the car. We were notified by our insurance that we were about to be dropped due to wildfire risks. Lucas was quick to give us an estimate and Chris and his team were on site not many days after. They did a massive amount of clearing and chipping over the course of 4 days. They also dropped 4 massive Fir trees which has brought so much additional light in that there is one less excuse to get a garden going. One of the climbers, Kevin, did most of the work on the Firs and was pretty impressive watching all the weight slowly be chunked and dropped to the forest floor. We have plenty of logs set aside to be cut to length, split and stacked. Enough wood to keep this rickety house warm for many winters to come. Empire tree service damaged my car when their employees failed to properly direct traffic while removing trees in my neighborhood ... still almost 2 years later they refuse to pay the deductible. After being called bitch, fuck you, and told to move the fuck on by a group of 4 men which was intimidating (I highly doubt they would have treated a male this way....) I was finally able to speak with one memeber of the crew Chris who had integrity, and admitted this was their fault. I then spoke with Lucas the owner who seemed to understand & even side with me,but once it came time for the actual repairs never accepted another one of my calls or called me back. Truly unprofessional, abusive, dishonest company. Where's your integrity? Why should I have to pay for your proven mistake not properly directing traffic & blocking access to a one way road? We would never use this tree service again--not because the workers didn't do a professional job, but because the owner badgered us so badly that we lost sleep over this situation. We had a large oak suddenly split--on a Sunday, and fall onto our house and the neighboring apartments. Other people's lives were in danger so we couldn't wait. I understand this was an emergency situation and they were the only tree company to respond. The owner was out of town, but the foreman agreed to come out. He said he could not give us an idea of the cost. The owner returned, charged us $26,300, and began demanding payment in full immediately. We had hoped to wait until we could hear from our insurance company, but continued to be harassed by the owner, Lucas G until we paid the full amount. We are so very happy with the work that Chris and his team just completed. They were fast, but careful and respectful of the property, fencing, etc. We learned of Empire Tree Experts from a flyer received in the mail. We called Lucas for a bid. He was in the area so able to come right out. The job was started by noon the next day, and everything was finished late morning the following day. We had a huge 200+ year old live oak that had died. The limbs were hanging over the edge of our roof, over fencing, the septic tank and leach lines. A lot of maneuvering around and precise sawing was required for the job. After a half hour I called and talked to their phone service who then contacted Lucas who called me shortly after. He said he had an emergency and could come out now. I declined. It's possible that he DID have an emergency, in which case I should have been notified and would understand, but I had the feeling he forgot. There are sooo many tree services competing for business that it takes a lot to be better than your competition but not nearly as much to be worse. I also read the negative reviews, but decided to get several quotes from different tree companies. This company had the lowest quote by far (less than half of one of the quotes!) So I spoke with Lucas about my concerns and he promised me that I would be happy with their work. They arrived on time and were able to come within a week of giving me a quote unlike some of the other companies that said maybe they could come in a month. They did everything as planned even in the rain, cleaned up beautifully and made sure I was satisfied with everything.
