The entire experience of working with Vintage Tree Care is outstanding from the office staff to manager of projects to the crew. The care the crew puts into carefully and strategically trimming is a comfort to me. I have been working with Vintage Tree for quite a few years. I have a small backyard orchard of mostly "vintage fruit trees" that need special tending and a 80+ year camphor tree out front. The cleanup of cut branches etc. is great. I breath a big sigh of relief when I step back and see the finished results...so cared for. I could not recommend a company more. Thank you Fred, staff and crew. read more

Managing a 10-acre estate requires contractors you can depend on implicitly, and I've trusted Fred and his team with our property for a full decade. Fred's customer service is over the top and it has been that way throughout the years. They are consistently on time, deliver amazing arbor work, and are wonderful to work alongside. Because of Fred's professionalism and attention to detail, I never have to question whether a job will get done or get done right--I trust him completely with the care of the 10-acres. If you want fantastic work and peace of mind, they are amazing and I cannot recommend them enough! read more

I wouldn't have any other tree care service than Vintage for my precious (and valuable!) trees. Fred spends time making sure he knows what the customer wants and what's best for the trees and their setting. He has a great rapport with his crew; rates are fare and great communication and clean-up. read more

I've been a customer of Vintage Tree Care since 2016 or earlier and always found them to be fair and professional. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case in 2026. The business model has clearly shifted toward greed over customer retention. I called for a simple pruning estimate--a job they've done for me in the past--and was told it would now cost $250 just for the estimate. While they claim they'll credit it back if you hire them, it feels like a transparent attempt to trap customers or gouge those who aren't looking for a massive tree removal. It's clear they are now only interested in high-ticket jobs and have zero regard for the loyalty of long-term local clients. If you're looking for a fair arborist in Santa Rosa who values returning customers, look elsewhere. I won't be calling them again. read more

Fred was great to work with! Great communication along the way. And great response time. Super knowledgeable and knows what he's doing.

Vintage tree was absolutely great! They were extremely responsive and helpful and helped us review the trees which needed pruning or removal at our property in Kenwood. Kamala helped us negotiate with our neighbor to remove a trouble tree on his property. This was extremely helpful and saved us a lot of back and forth. The crew was awesome and was able to handle several large trees quickly and with great care and skill. Definitely recommend for any tricky tree job or for a good, professional trim. read more

Fred and his team at Vintage Tree Care are top-notch. From my initial inquiry through to the completion of the tree work at our house in Forestville, everything was handled in the most professional way. Fred is responsive and thoughtful with his communications, and he provides an honest assessment of the work. In addition, as a certified arborist, he has extensive knowledge of tree care--not just maintenance but also aesthetics. He is happy to go as deep as you'd like discussing the specifics of your tree(s) and needs, and he can speak to leafy as well as fruiting trees. The team that came out with Fred to perform the work was great, too. Everyone worked efficiently, thoroughly and carefully. When they left, you would not have known that they had been there as the yards, driveway and street were diligently cleaned. I would highly recommend Fred and Vintage Tree Care for your tree needs. I have tried other companies in the past, but will be using Vintage Tree Care from now on. Their calendar books up easily, so if you're interested, I'd recommend starting the conversation sooner rather than later. read more

From the first conversation until the completion of my project, Vintage Tree Care was the best. Their staff was professional, as was there service team on my property. They left a clean site and were completely professional. 4 Stars for sure! read more

Fred was recommended to me by the "Western Chapter of International Society of Arboriculture". He was introduced as: "an award winner which includes consideration of ethics and integrity". Take it from me; after hiring the wrong company... Vintage Tree Care seems to be whom I should have hired. Next time. Thanks Fred! read more

I love trees and Vintage Tree Care does too! If you live in Sonoma County and need trees trimmed or removed, call Fred Frey and Vintage Tree Care! Fred gave us options for trimming but we ultimately made the tough decision to have our 2 enormous redwood trees removed before they could drop more branches on our home (they were too big for their location and it became a safety risk). Fred's team ground the stumps and came back to re-grind when we had unexpected re-growth. Fred is extremely knowledgeable, professional, and personable. He and his team showed up on time and worked efficiently and with care, protecting our home and our neighbors' too. Fred went above and beyond to research our town's specific permit laws, and calmly dealt with the permit police when they showed up unexpectedly! We highly recommend Fred and Vintage Tree Care! What an awesome small, local business! If you liked climbing trees as a kid, or still do, or have a kid that does, you should watch these guys in action! read more

Fred and his crew did everything exactly right. Ours is a very complex property. Nothing was damaged, no mess, zero issues. Stunning results. As someone with 30 credits in the SRJC Horticulture Department- I can wholeheartedly endorse Fred and his crew with a well-deserved 5 star rating. We will be utilizing their services in the fall and spring of every year. read more

Such care and professionalism! Kamala and her crew were out twice this Spring. First, they made quick work of a pine about to fall into power lines. They returned on their regular schedule address some other less critical but dire issues with our aging and overgrown trees. The trees look so much better - and the Vintage crew left our home in tip-top shape. I can't thank them enough for lending a hand at a difficult time for our family. If you're looking for compassionate, knowledgeable, honest folks to enable your trees to thrive, look no further. They were wonderful from soup to nuts! read more

We have two fifty year old Ginko trees in front of our house. We called Vintage Tree Care and were given an appointment. Everything was very professional and well done. The neighbor next door was asked to move his car for safety sake and I was asked to move mine from the driveway for the same reason. The work began in earnest and the crew worked in concert as a team. Fred, the company owner was in the bucket dealing with the high branches as well as a couple of men who climbed up the trees. These trees had not been trimmed in over twenty years and presented a challenge. I would not hesitate to recommend Vintage Tree Care, honest and careful work by a professional team. Well trained by the owner, a licensed arborisits. read more

I am going to add yet another 5 star review to this great business. Every part of the experience from the first consultation, quotation and scheduling to the tree trimming and invoicing was very smooth. Fred and his team trimmed and cabled my huge oak tree, and also trimmed a Catalpa tree. We couldn't be more pleased with the result. The crew left the worksite cleaner than when they arrived! His communication was excellent throughout. Highly recommended read more

I'm so grateful for Fred's help. He saved my cat who got stuck very high in a tree running from predators in the middle of the night. We found him crying, panting and exhausted from hanging on. No one could help us until we were able to find Fred. The situation was desperate. Fred came to the rescue knowing exactly what to do and calmly explained the process of what to expect. He was confident and competent, empathetic and kind. He climbed the tree with agility using a halter strap until he reached the cat, was able to secure him into a canvas bag, and lower him safely towards me to the ground. Fred was so calm and reassuring the whole time. I am so relieved and full of gratitude for his help in saving my cat's life. read more

Vintage Tree Care - Freddie - Tree Services Near Me - Santa Rosa, California

We hired Vintage Tree Care upon the recommendation of a co-worker and can now say we would also give them a big thumbs up. Fred came out and went over our particulars and specific needs and provided a reasonable quote and no problem with giving us his insurance certificates. It took a few weeks to get the work scheduled but his crew did a great job, communicating well and checking with me several times during the afternoon to make sure they were doing what we wanted (and maintaining the screening of a couple of trees). The cleanup was great. Vintage was not the lowest or highest quote we obtained but the work was certainly worth what we paid. read more

Simply an excellent experience, all the way around. Fred came by and gave an estimate to do some thinning, shaping and trimming of the Japanese Maples and two fruit trees in our small back yard. The trimming, thinning and shaping were easily handled onsite by Fred, with his crew. They also planted a Fuyu persimmon where one Maple had to be removed. The work was done without a misstep, the debris completely removed, and the trees look splendid. The new persimmon is thriving, and looks grand. It's hard to overstate our great experience with such a highly qualified Arborist and business owner, and crew. We are very pleased with the Vintage Tree Care professionals. Thanks as well to Kym, in the office, for fielding my calls and keeping us informed and on schedule. I can definitely recommend them, without reservation. read more

Vintage Tree Care (Fred Frey) does absolutely outstanding work. We live in an area in Santa Rosa with lots of old (dying) firs, old oaks, etc. ... and with difficult access. Fred provided expert advice about the care/removal of our trees, and his crew did beautiful tree trimming and pruning. His prices are fair, and the work is excellent. His crew is so professional and pleasant as well. Vintage Tree Care recently removed 3 fir trees for us which required his crew to climb the trees in order to cut them down one section (or log) at a time. Despite the 99 degree heat, they were positive and good spirited all day. Our back yard and front driveway looked cleaner when they left than when they had originally arrived, due to the excellent clean-up job. We couldn't be happier. read more

We highly recommend Vintage Tree Care. Fred and his crew, led by Gerry, were responsive, on-time, efficient and courteous. Work and workmanship were outstanding. They took great care to protect surrounding landscaping. They educated us on tree care and communicated every step of the way. Don't hesitate to use Vintage Tree Care! read more

I've had occasion to use a few different tree services over the years. Vintage Tree Care is by far the best. The owner, Fred, not only comes out for free professional quotes, he actually works along with his crew when they come out to do the work. This is extremely important because if anything comes up you have the competent decision maker right there. They are fast and efficient - although many others are, too. They do a messy job with as little mess as possible and then COMPLETELY clean up before they leave. Do yourself a favor and call Fred. read more

Due to the October 2019 wind storm/fire, a giant tree came down at an apartment complex I manage. Most residents had left due to the mandatory evacuation. I have worked with Fred before so called him and 2 days later, his full crew arrived, cut the tree up, expertly cut branches from a nearby damaged tree and removed everything from the property in just a few hours. They were amazing to watch, very professional and efficient and they left the property in pristine condition. The work was completed in the morning, power came back on in the afternoon and residents arrived shortly after. Great job! read more

As new homeowners (5 years) we have been fortunate to find high quality services as we manage the many needs that come up. We were so pleased to find a good tree service to trim the trees on our and our neighbor's property so they they are beautiful, healthy, and safe. Some were quite overgrown with dead branches and choked out with ivy. One pomelo needed to be removed because it was too close to the house ... and who eats pomelos? The crew were prompt, professional, and did a stellar job. They cleaned up and took all debris with them so I came home to a whole new yard. Thanks for a job well done. read more

Fred and the crew at Vintage Tree Care are first class. I spoke to four different companies before going with Vintage Tree Care. We moved to a property that had not been cared for in many years. There was a large Cypress with several fallen branches stuck in the tree above our roof waiting for the next wind storm to fall. There were several Oaks as well that had not been cared for around our home that needed attention. The work they did was everything we wanted and more, the Oak and the Cypress near the home are now showpieces instead of hazards. The pricing was competitive, the work was great, and they left everything clean and tidy. I highly recommend them and they will be caring for our trees for years to come! read more

We called Fred when our kitten was stuck in a tree for over 24 hours. The site was difficult to access, on a creek bank, 30+ feet high in a thin/weak tree. (The fire department took a look and said they were unable to help.) Fred came out on short notice, in the RAIN and rescued the kitten in minutes. We are so grateful! Thank you, Fred. read more

Vintage Tree Care did a WONDERFUL job today! From initial review and quote by Fred, everything has been handled perfectly! Fred is extremely knowledgeable about all of the various types of trees we had and knew just what to do for safety and for the health of the trees. Fred reviewed everything that was to be done and was even able to take care of another tree today, in addition to the initial proposal. The crew arrived right on time, were courteous regarding noise during the job and cleaned up everything in a timely manner. We'll be using them again whenever we need work done! read more

I had two large oak trees overhanging our fragile spanish tile roof. Fred took extreme care to not touch the roof and to remove large branches hanging within a couple feet of the roof. Fred and his crew did a great job. One clay tile was damaged, Fred call me immediately to let me know, owned up to the damage, provided a temporary fix to get us through the rain that night, then took care of the fix through his recommended roofing contractor. Not only was Fred great to work with and very professional, he was also the lowest price of the three quotes we received. I will definitely use Vintage for my future tree needs. read more

We were thoroughly pleased with the excellent and professional work done on tree stump removal for 3 large old redwoods. Excellent customer service. Fred and his staff are very friendly and knowledgeable; they even work in the rain. He will also work with your insurance company and keep you up to date on everything. Fred and his crew were amazing. We were considering doing the tree trimming ourselves, but after I saw what his crew did and how beautiful the trees look now, I am so glad I used Vintage Tree Care instead. I am super picky about my 25 year old trees. I planted them all and nutured them for years and didn't want to see them butchered. Fred and his crew took the time to discuss each tree and asked for my continual input while they were trimming. They were REALLY great! Thank you Fred. read more

Had a limb break partly off last night and didn't notice it until 5:30pm. When I called Vintage Tree Care it went to voicemail but they had an after hours number to call which was very helpful! I called Fred and left a message saying what my issue was and the neighborhood I was in and he called back within a minute to let me know the site fee and also gave me a chance to call around before confirming his services. He then called back to see how I was doing and I was a bit flustered because it was my boyfriend's house and he was not reachable at the moment. But in that time he cruised into my neighborhood on his way back to the office and was able to help get the limb down right then and there for the base site fee! I appreciated him taking the initiative to come by and check it out. It was wonderful to have the limb taken down. As he cut it down I realized there was only a small branch holding it up propped onto the fence! Once he cut it the limb swang swiftly away from the fence on the ropes he used to prop it up. After he cut the limb into manageable pieces he also helped me clear the sidewalk and get the majority of the pieces of the limb into our green bin. It looks like there might be more limbs like this on the tree and Fred mentioned they do free estimates so we could get a better idea of how to take care of any limbs before this kind of thing happens again. I'm so glad he was able to come by today and help us on such short notice and ease our concerns about the safety issue that was this limb! He was professional, personable and swift. Thanks again, Fred! read more

I hired Vintage Tree Care to thin out and do an overall weight reduction on a rather large loquat tree for me. The experience was easy and the communication and customer service was WONDERFUL throughout! For the initial appointment to give me an estimate, Kamala arrived 30 minutes early and was very nice and knowledgeable. I received the quote via email about 15 minutes after she left, and was very pleased the price. After I accepted the quote, the office called a couple of days later to schedule a day to do the work. When the day came, the crew arrived right on time, Kamala confirmed with me what I wanted to have done, and the guys went right to work. When the work was close to being complete, Kamala checked in with me to make sure I was happy with how the tree looked, which I was, and the crew finished and cleaned up completely. The tree looks great and I no longer fear a large branch breaking off onto my neighbor's garage! I was very impressed with the level of service I received and would highly recommend them to anyone! read more

Our property management firm has used Fred Frey and Vintage Tree Care for several years. We've found Fred and his team to be very knowledgeable, safe and courteous to our tenants. Fred and his team have been taking care of my parents' trees for years, including yard trees and trees between the sidewalk and curb, and all of the trees are in great shape, so when we needed to have a tree in our yard evaluated for pruning or removal, we called Fred. Fred is an experienced arborist and tree trimmer. We asked him to evaluate an old tree in our yard for whether or not pruning would keep it safe in our yard for a few more years or whether removal was recommended. He recommended removal due to the tree's poor health and weak limbs, and a couple of days later he and his crew were in our yard taking the tree down. He has also done tree trimming work for another family member and her trees look great. I appreciate Fred's professional, friendly demeanor and his experience, plus his crew was polite and efficient. As our newly planted younger trees grow, I won't hesitate to call upon Fred to help prune them to ensure they grow healthy and hardy. read more

Having recently moved to Santa Rosa from out of state, I called several tree care companies and arborists in the area to get more information, quotes and have some work done. Not only is he honest, on time, fair and professional, but above all else, was competent, helpful, knowledgeable, and just a real genuine, trustworthy person. Vintage did a great job with what we felt was an emergency. The owner Fred felt he may be able to save a tree we thought was destined for the woodpile. We'll see if the plan works! He was a very clear communicator, arrived at the time he said he would, and his crew left the area clean as a whistle ( I saw them picking up leaves one by one). Fred and his team did a excellent job trimming/removing and generally cleaning up some large oaks trees on our property that we have neglected for many years. He was responsive to our initial inquiry to provide a quote and was up front about advising is that it would be several weeks before he could complete the work as he has already taken on previous commitment (which we much appreciated). His team arrived on time and the work was completed as quoted. We definitely recommend to anyone looking for his services and we would definitely use again in the future! read more
