I've been a customer of Vintage Tree Care since 2016 or earlier and always found them to be fair and professional. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case in 2026. The business model has clearly shifted toward greed over customer retention. I called for a simple pruning estimate--a job they've done for me in the past--and was told it would now cost $250 just for the estimate. While they claim they'll credit it back if you hire them, it feels like a transparent attempt to trap customers or gouge those who aren't looking for a massive tree removal. It's clear they are now only interested in high-ticket jobs and have zero regard for the loyalty of long-term local clients. If you're looking for a fair arborist in Santa Rosa who values returning customers, look elsewhere. I won't be calling them again. read more

Vintage tree was absolutely great! They were extremely responsive and helpful and helped us review the trees which needed pruning or removal at our property in Kenwood. Kamala helped us negotiate with our neighbor to remove a trouble tree on his property. This was extremely helpful and saved us a lot of back and forth. Fred gave us options for trimming but we ultimately made the tough decision to have our 2 enormous redwood trees removed before they could drop more branches on our home (they were too big for their location and it became a safety risk). Fred's team ground the stumps and came back to re-grind when we had unexpected re-growth. Fred is extremely knowledgeable, professional, and personable. He and his team showed up on time and worked efficiently and with care, protecting our home and our neighbors' too. We have two fifty year old Ginko trees in front of our house. We called Vintage Tree Care and were given an appointment. Everything was very professional and well done. The neighbor next door was asked to move his car for safety sake and I was asked to move mine from the driveway for the same reason. The work began in earnest and the crew worked in concert as a team. Fred, the company owner was in the bucket dealing with the high branches as well as a couple of men who climbed up the trees. Simply an excellent experience, all the way around. Fred came by and gave an estimate to do some thinning, shaping and trimming of the Japanese Maples and two fruit trees in our small back yard. Vintage Tree Care (Fred Frey) does absolutely outstanding work. We live in an area in Santa Rosa with lots of old (dying) firs, old oaks, etc. ... and with difficult access. Fred provided expert advice about the care/removal of our trees, and his crew did beautiful tree trimming and pruning. His prices are fair, and the work is excellent. His crew is so professional and pleasant as well. Vintage Tree Care recently removed 3 fir trees for us which required his crew to climb the trees in order to cut them down one section (or log) at a time. Despite the 99 degree heat, they were positive and good spirited all day. Due to the October 2019 wind storm/fire, a giant tree came down at an apartment complex I manage. Most residents had left due to the mandatory evacuation. I have worked with Fred before so called him and 2 days later, his full crew arrived, cut the tree up, expertly cut branches from a nearby damaged tree and removed everything from the property in just a few hours. They were amazing to watch, very professional and efficient and they left the property in pristine condition. There was a large Cypress with several fallen branches stuck in the tree above our roof waiting for the next wind storm to fall. I had two large oak trees overhanging our fragile spanish tile roof. Fred took extreme care to not touch the roof and to remove large branches hanging within a couple feet of the roof. Fred and his crew did a great job. One clay tile was damaged, Fred call me immediately to let me know, owned up to the damage, provided a temporary fix to get us through the rain that night, then took care of the fix through his recommended roofing contractor. Had a limb break partly off last night and didn't notice it until 5:30pm. When I called Vintage Tree Care it went to voicemail but they had an after hours number to call which was very helpful! I called Fred and left a message saying what my issue was and the neighborhood I was in and he called back within a minute to let me know the site fee and also gave me a chance to call around before confirming his services. He then called back to see how I was doing and I was a bit flustered because it was my boyfriend's house and he was not reachable at the moment. But in that time he cruised into my neighborhood on his way back to the office and was able to help get the limb down right then and there for the base site fee! I appreciated him taking the initiative to come by and check it out. It was wonderful to have the limb taken down. As he cut it down I realized there was only a small branch holding it up propped onto the fence! Once he cut it the limb swang swiftly away from the fence on the ropes he used to prop it up. After he cut the limb into manageable pieces he also helped me clear the sidewalk and get the majority of the pieces of the limb into our green bin. It looks like there might be more limbs like this on the tree and Fred mentioned they do free estimates so we could get a better idea of how to take care of any limbs before this kind of thing happens again. I'm so glad he was able to come by today and help us on such short notice and ease our concerns about the safety issue that was this limb! He was professional, personable and swift. I hired Vintage Tree Care to thin out and do an overall weight reduction on a rather large loquat tree for me. The experience was easy and the communication and customer service was WONDERFUL throughout! For the initial appointment to give me an estimate, Kamala arrived 30 minutes early and was very nice and knowledgeable. I received the quote via email about 15 minutes after she left, and was very pleased the price. After I accepted the quote, the office called a couple of days later to schedule a day to do the work. When the day came, the crew arrived right on time, Kamala confirmed with me what I wanted to have done, and the guys went right to work. When the work was close to being complete, Kamala checked in with me to make sure I was happy with how the tree looked, which I was, and the crew finished and cleaned up completely. Fred and his team have been taking care of my parents' trees for years, including yard trees and trees between the sidewalk and curb, and all of the trees are in great shape, so when we needed to have a tree in our yard evaluated for pruning or removal, we called Fred. Fred is an experienced arborist and tree trimmer. We asked him to evaluate an old tree in our yard for whether or not pruning would keep it safe in our yard for a few more years or whether removal was recommended. i wish ALL contractors were like Vintage tree care. on time right from the get go. the estimate guy called me immediately when he felt he would be late. and he showed up at the adjusted new time before me!! recent rain events made tree guys very popular. it was brought upfront, that the actual work was 6 weeks away. no problem. i got on the calendar after seeking 2 other bids..(one guy stiffed me and didnt show up). i figured 6 weeks away, that day would slip some. nope. i called to confirm and the date didnt slip. that day was yesterday. they called to tell me what time was estimated arrival, and they nailed it. i rushed home to meet them. (they beat me there again!) a full pro team showed up. the estimate guy was there!! one thing i noticed immediately. they put enough guys on the job to get it done! there were four guys. one guy went up the tree and took it apart systematically. limbs lowered and everything was carried out and set in the street. i bet it took 20 minutes to take down that tree. i went back to work just as they were firing up the tree chipper. wife called later and said they were gone 10 minutes later. i went to meet the stump remover guy..looking at photos..it is the owner!! i kid you not..i think i found 10 leaves in my yard as evidence i even had a tree back there. byebye liquid amber tree. they spit shined the place after they left. i will recommend them to anyone!! taking down a big tree is not a job for the unprofessional..no thanks. read more
