hands down, they have the best dogs in queens I have been to many, many pet stores before buying my dog, but the dogs in this particular pet store has the best ones. After I got my dog, i visited this place frequently to buy some stuff for him, and whenever i am in here, i would check the dogs out too (because just looking at them makes me happy). This place never lets me down in providing me with eye candies. I see that other people have had bad experiences here, but my own experience that ... it is actually great here. They also have many different breeds... they also have those dogs not seen often in other pet stores such as boxers, greyhounds, toy fox terriers, omg king charles spaniel cavalier was amazing. If I could give this place a zero rating I would. I bought my shiba inu here 6 and a half years ago. My puppy had just passed away from cancer a month before we found out. my family and I tried everything we could to keep her alive, we went back to the shop for family records to look for a bone marrow transplant for my baby and they told us they had no records at all and that their shiba breeder no longer works with them. Also the cancer that was found in my baby is one of the most uncommon diseases in dogs let alone shiba inu's and the only possible way of her having it was genetics. AKA the mother of my puppy had this disease as well as probably all the puppies she had given birth to which was also sold in this store!! Later I find out from a friend, who also bought her toy poodle at empire puppies, that they have a record of breeding puppies with major diseases and my friend was no longer able to afford to give her one year old puppy the surgery she requires to live so she had to give her puppy away to the vet who could give her the proper surgeries. Stay as far away from this place as possible, we're hoping that they run out of business so they can no longer abuse anymore doggies to overbreed and give birth to puppies that are more likely to have diseases. this place will only cause you and your family sadness and heartbreaks the way they have caused my family! put this place out of business PLEASE!!! read more

Do not listen to old reviews about this place. I went looking for a puppy June 24th 2016 and I have never been so satisfied. I already felt confident walking into this place when I noticed how the place smelled good and the dogs were clean. My boyfriend and I were there for more than an hour because we were very undecided about which puppy to take home. The staff was patient and answered every single question we had and knew every small detail about every puppy. Luckily, another staff member was walking in with other puppies after a trip from the vet and we fell in love with their minnie jack. They even offer exams from their licensed vet and they guarantee their puppies. Our puppy named Bambi, is extremely healthy, super playful and energetic. Staff were so rude. Wouldn't even acknowledge that you are there. The dogs all look soo skinny and not well taken care of by these people! You can tell they are just doing it for the money, given the dogs are overpriced. They post all these dogs on their websites which they dont have any in the store of the ones we saw online. Their Siberian Husky sold for almost $2,000 when my purebred Siberian Husky was only $1,200.. i would only recommend to buy from them to get those dogs outta there!! read more

I wanted to surprise my wife with a christmas gift so i shopped around for quite a while until i found Empire Puppies! She has always wanted a Tea-cup Maltese. I was lucky enough to see one of the most high-spirited and playful little pups that was for sale there. I purchased little Milo at 3 months and he has been the most awesome little boy ever since. This place is kept absolutely clean, definitely not one of those smelly kennels. Good people too. We love our Havanese puppy we bought a week ago. She is well behaved, cute as a button and smart as all get out. I gave three stars because a) I don't appreciate being called "girl" by a store worker, it's just unprofessional. B) all of the supplies are overpriced and who charges almost $200 in taxes for a dog? I am happy with my puppy, but they can use some professional customer training. Don't expect to see the puppies listed on the website, it's simply advertisements to get you into the store. The first thing I noticed was that the puppies were in horrible conditions. The poor puppies are placed in tiny tiny cages that are not well kept at all. Would give zero stars if I could. BAD PLACE TO BUY A DOG! I bought a Shiba Inu from this place at 3 months and it turns out that the dog has a serious problem. The dog does not want to do anything except be in his bed. I have tried many different techniques suggested by doctor to alleviate problem and nothing has worked. This place must of mis-treated him, which is why he is afraid of humans. I was very hesitant to get a dog at Empire Puppies after reading the reviews on Yelp but decided to give it a shot anyway. Like the previous review said, the store did not have that overwhelming dog smell and it was very clean and tidy. The puppies' cages seem clean and the puppies were very active with no signs of depression. We decided on a shih tzu poddle mix puppy. He was pricey but worth it :) My boyfriend dealt with Will and he was super friendly and helpful. He made sure Kobe was clean and groomed before we came to pick him up. The other guy working there (i forget his name but he has glasses on) was not very friendly and resourceful when we went to pick Kobe up. He told me I shouldn't walk him outside for a year and that puppies don't need to be walked! WTF?! Yea, I didn't really listen to anything he said and consulted my vet instead. They also don't use a very popular brand of food so you are forced to buy a bag to start your puppy off with before you can transition to something else :-/ They also offer a free vet consult for the puppy's first health exam but I decided to find my own vet anyway just in case their affiliated vet was going to lie and tell me Kobe's healthy when he's not just to make some money. The store offers a 14 day health guarantee. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and I am happy with my puppy! read more

The set-up they got here is interesting. The place is not as clean as Q Puppies but seems to be trying to mimic that clean look, but without the actual cleanliness. This place smelled a little. I couldn't but help notice that the puppies do their business on Korean newspaper here. They probably had the best selection of cute purebred and hybrid puppies I saw. Just the greatest variety. The puppies seemed not happy or unhappy. Kinda neutral. They also house similar breeds and siblings here so they were playing, but the bigger dogs that hadn't sold were alone and way too big to be in the small spaces they were kept inside. I asked what happened to them and I was told the puppies get their prices marked down as they get older and older until they are sold. When I asked where they got the particular puppy breed I was interested in, I was told a breeder in New York with just the slightest of flinches. The thing about this place was they play the most hardball negotiating style here. Like I walked in and as soon as you mention price, they are on the defensive. Whereas some pet stores negotiate price by trying to bond you more and more to the dog, here they keep putting the dog away and blowing you off so like you insist on seeing the dog more or have to keep asking them to take the dog out so you can play with it or hold it again (like a toy they are taking away from you if you are not going to pay for it). The man who was there literally put the dog I asked about, back in and out of his cage like three times and I wasn't even in there that long and was the only customer there. When I asked what would be the best he could do after an initial price discussion, he said it would depend on whether I paid in cash and was interested in taking it home now. I asked hypothetically what if I was and then he started telling me more about the potential markdown which wasn't much. I cited the website prices, but he said the prices on the website were for four month old puppies and not for puppies in the two month range. I almost wanted to tell him then to state that on the website but refrained and left shortly thereafter. Seriously, if you are going to post prices on your website for breeds (something the others don't do), then at least honor those prices or don't post prices at all. They sell minimal dog merchandise here, btw. I was surprised or had been expecting more, but they sell very little and the dogs are the merchandise here. read more

Not even one star. I read the previous reviews regarding the way they keep the place and the smell is overwhelming. They may try but I'm not impressed. One of the puppies stepped in its own poop and smeared it on the glass. We told the guy and he just wipes it down with a dry napkin-- No Clorox wipes, Lysol, safe-puppy spray, nothing. I have a 6 month old Shih-Poo puppy, I had her for 2 months and shes doing amazing. The store was awesome. I bought my puppy on New Years Eve and the original price was $780 and we got to get her for $650. When we got her the Empire Puppies employee gave us anything and everything that we needed for her to be ok. They gave us the food she eats at the store, what to add to her water because she's going to be at a new environment. Since my Shih-Poo was my first dog, they told us everything I need to know about her. As the process was going on, they also gave us some medicine to prevent kennel cough. I've had my puppy for a little bit over 2 months and I haven't had any problems. She's the most hyper puppy ever and brings happiness to my house every day. My boyfriend and I met our furry little child Domingo here. The overall experience was easy and pleasant. We got our amazing little doggy who will turn 1 in a couple of months. I walked into this place and fell in love with a gorgeous golden retriever puppy and took him home after waiting 2 weeks for him to be ready with most of the shots. He is now 8 months old and was diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia, a disease that is congenital and will require surgery in the very near future or he might not be able to walk. I don't want to say that all the puppies that this store carries are bad or might have a problem in the future, but be aware that apparently the breeders that they are using are not reputable and you might end up in a similar position that I currently am. read more

First let me say I know a few things about dogs. Ive owned a gplden and my shiloh shepherd just passed away after almost 12 years. I found out about a GSP up for adoption. I called about the 9 month old male to ask some questions. The owners could not answer all my questions, but did tell me he was bought at Empire, I called Empire to get some questions about the breeding and health of their dogs. The gentleman (I'll use that word loosely) couldn't answer one of my questions. and acted as if he was doing me a favor talking to me. Even though the owners say he is healthy, I'll bet my next two paychecks these dogs are from puppy mills! I'm afraid if I adopt this puppy, he may be perfectly fine or he may have problems due to lousy breeding down the line. Bottom line I would never get a puppy from such a place. If you want a dog like I do. Go to a private breeder or go to the humane society.. People who are truly dog people care about the dogs they are selling would know answers to my simple questions such as where do you get your puppies., read more

I've been meaning to write a review about our sweet puppy for a while. I am honestly shocked to see all these bad reviews here. Our experience with this store was absolutely great. We have been looking for a female Maltese puppy for few months. Been in every store in LI, Upstate even in Connecticut. When we called Empire, they said they have one (that's what everyone always says anyway), but when we arrived we didn't see any. We asked the staff about it and they said they have 1 in a basement. I was worry they have a puppy mill down there, but the second I saw her I knew that's not the case. She was so tiny and cute and had to be kept there because she was right after her surgery. She was chipped and fixed, which saved us a lot of money and trouble. Their price was lower than in most other stores and they offered free vet visit! We paid a deposit a came back for her few days later so she could heal. The stuff might seem rude, but they in fact want to make sure the new owners will take care of the dogs properly. They were very persistent about what we need to do in the first few weeks in order for the puppy to be happy and healthy. 3 months later, we couldn't be happier with the purchase. Our little princess changed our lives! She brings so much happiness, joy, love and positive energy to the house. Everyone is asking us where we got her and want the same one. I took my chance to go visit and boy i was blown away by how clean the store is and good varieties of puppy! It was tough decision to buy a puppies.The staff is very knowledgeable and they help us to choose a puppies that fit our need! just popped in as we were walking past the shop ... oh god.....first of all, 'Soul-sapping' is how i would describe the energy in there... the pups look extremely raggy and suicidal... if i werent against pet shops before, this would push me over the edge..probably was in there less than 30 seconds but every cell in my body was pushing me outta there.. not to be dramatic but I think i've been severely traumatized by the experience.....man, imagine what the poor fur babies must be going through.. and dont get me started on the smell... there was poop in the cages and poor tender paws sitting on metal grid floors, huddled in fear, sadness, and just plain despondent... makes me ashamed to be human and nauseous to even write it now.. if I owned this place I would: -clean or hire some people to clean cages every 3 hours -make sure that the pups are fed and played with daily -make sure that the pups are washed every week -have someone walk the pups or let them run around a bit -get a hepa air filter -not shove large breed dogs into a tiny box -not shove 3 different dogs into one tiny box ...but I forgot, these are puppymill pups and this is the only life they know... this really really sucks! ...also, i don't BUY the positive reviews that are posted - not for a minute. Don't do it guys, do not support pet shops-- rescue or just save up and pay alittle more and buy from a breeder who raises the puppies underfoot alongside their family pets - you'll be able to sleep at night. read more
