We had a really disappointing experience here and won't be returning. My husband ordered a burger without a bun and made a few simple modifications (no cheese, add bacon and onions). It came out fine, so he ordered a second one--only to have the manager come over after the order was placed to say they were "too busy" to accommodate those same modifications again. Apparently the server "shouldn't have allowed it." That's not just inconsistent, it's poor communication and puts the customer (and server) in an awkward spot for no reason. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich that was honestly one of the driest things I've ever tried to eat. I could barely get through two bites. The fries that came with it left me with pretty bad indigestion later, which is unusual for me. Our daughters ordered pizza, which was fine--but it arrived about 30 minutes after our food, so we weren't even eating together as a family. We also ordered a bottle of prosecco that was barely chilled. We had to ask for an ice bucket just to make it drinkable. Between the food quality, inconsistent service, and overall experience, this was a miss across the board. read more

The good: The angel pizza was truly angelic. It looked like the photo online and tasted better than I predicted. I would definitely order that again. Another huge hit was the shaved brussel sprout salad. If you don't like brussel sprouts, you might change your mind after eating this. The combination of brussel sprouts with the cherries, blue cheese and miso dressing was the perfect combination I would never think to curate. The waffle fries were seasoned and good. The bad: The price is a little much. $18 for a salad without the protein is steep in my opinion. I paid $8 extra for grilled chicken that looked good but was dry, flavorless, and inedible. An easy five stars. Emmy Squared Pizza serves what is probably the best pizza to be had in Athens. It's really good. We started with the shaved Brussel Sprout salad. It's generously portioned, and it's more than enough for two. Pizza wise, we got the "Meatsiah" consisting of "signature cheese blend, crispy Ezzo pepperoni, house-made Italian sausage, thick-cut Nuke's bacon, [and] tender shaved ribeye." It was amazingly good and some of the best pizza I've had anywhere. I washed mine down with a Creature Comforts Tropicalia as one does. It's a stylish upscale place. Delicious Chicago style pizza. Maybe the best gluten free crust I've ever had. We got a pineapple jalapeño pizza with vegan cheese and the chili pineapple sauce, and it was legitimately spicy and delicious. I don't know how Detroit pizza got on my radar, but now that's it's here, it's here to stay. We stopped at Emmy Squared on our way out of town, based on a recommendation from our hotel concierge, and I am so glad we did. The restaurant was busy due to a large team in the front room, but that didn't put a dent in our service. Our son ordered wings, which he absolutely loved, and we split a pizza and the brussels sprouts salad. The salad was shaved brussels sprouts, house-pickled red onions, crunchy cashews, tangy blue cheese, and sweet dried cherries, married with a vibrant miso dressing. It was heavenly and there was not a bit left. We also just had a simple cheese pizza: the crust was crispy and light, the sauce flavorful and the cheese delicious. Wow! The best Gluten Free Pizza I have ever had! Ordered the Hawaii Special and loved it. The crust is like Pizza Hits deep dish but way better. The 6 piece size was not finished by anyone as each slice is quite filling. The largest cheese sticks I have ever seen and the family loved them. The shredded Brussels salad was excellent but a little heavy on the dressing for my liking. Lastly, the brownie dessert was gobbled up quickly by the teens. Definitely recommend for the pizza. Today we ate at Emmy Squared in Athens. We ate outside and it was fairly busy but not overwhelmingly so. It was a pleasant day to be outside and was crazy noisy inside. The service is slow. We had to go find our waitress to order and then again to pay which was a bit frustrating. The food came out reasonably fast. The garliccheese bread was good but a bit oily. The Detroit style pizza was very tasty. Wonderful crisp crust and generous toppings. We did not try the burgers but they looked really good and people seemed to be enjoying them. read more

My 3rd time here and somehow each time it gets better than before. I came in on a gameday and I was not expecting it to be so busy. I thought this place was a hidden gem lol. Upon coming in the inside wait was 1 hour/ 1 hour 30 minutes. Adelade, the host was amazing. She offered outside, togo, then the bar for faster seating. We opted for the bar and she made sure we were able to grab the next available seat. At the bar we had Najja and Kahri, who served us! Kahri helped us decide on what entree as we kept going between 2 pizzas. Najia was constantly refilling my water as I was dehydrated from the game. Never once did she complete and was attentive. While having to bartend. Even though they were busy the staff was amazing. Really attentive and helpful. I'll definitely be back for another visit. If you plan to go during a busy time such as a game-day they do take reservations. It would allow you to have your preferred seating. The cucumbers marinated in soy sauce, had a bit of a spicy bite to it. Don't miss those. We also shared a Caesar salad with two different kinds of dressing. We had the Caesar dressing and their champagne vinaigrette. Again, I have never had salad dressing as good as those. I wish they would bottle the stuff. I actually took two salad dressings home. Solo dining for the night and this was a great choice. I sat at the bar around 5pm. The place was pretty empty. 4.4 overall. The good: service at the bar was excellent, although i was only one there. I ordered 3 pies to try a variety and bring some home. They were all good but the classic could have used more cheese and the colony was a little sweet for me but the pizza was a 7.2/10 and vip the best out of the lot. Ambiance was nice, bathrooms clean. The few challenges: you're paying for the rent a little in the prices, and the cocktails were expensive for well tequila and 4-5oz of actual liquid. Stick with wine. No beer taps. No obvious parking. Bar seats uncomfortable. I would definitely return when I'm back in the area with family, but i would be selective with timing to avoid the college crowd. read more

I discovered Emmy's through Instagram a couple months ago. They serve "Detroit style" deep dish pizza, along with burgers, salads, and various appetizers. I have been dying to try it ever since I discovered it, but sadly there weren't any locations near me. While stopping though Athens, GA on a college tour road-trip, I was delighted to see that and Emmy's Squared Pizza had just opened and I would get the opportunity to finally try their pizza! My family and I ended up ordered takeout on a Saturday night. We ordered the "family meal" which included 3 pizzas of your choice, garlic sticks, a Caesar salad, and their shaved brussel sprout salad. While we would have liked to dine in, we were too tired from a long day of travel and decided that takeout would be cheaper. The pizza is not cheap, but you are paying for quality. The family meal is a nice loop hole to avoid the pricey bill. You get twice as much food for a much more reasonable price compared to dining in and ordering all of the items included in the family meal individually. We ordered online through the app, which provided a $5 discount on your first order. My family and I had high expectations for the pizza considering the price and the hype regarding Emmy's. I also want to note that we had never had "Detroit style" pizza and this was a first for the three of us. We started with the salads and garlic sticks.The shaved brussel sprout salad included pickled onions, gorgonzola cheese, cashews, dried cherries, with a miso dressing. The brussel sprouts were shaved very finely and the various aspects of the salad worked perfectly together. The boldness of the Gorgonzola cheese and the sweet of the cherries, met with the tanginess of the miso dressing provided for a lovely salad. I will also note the size was large enough for the 3 of us to split (we have quite hearty appetites). The Caesar salad didn't disappoint either. The dressing had a nice, strong anchovy taste to it and the bread crumbs added a good texture with the crispiness of the fresh romaine leaves. Both salads were very fresh and we enjoyed them! Now the garlic sticks, WOW. By far the best garlic sticks I've ever had. There were 6 sticks included along with their homemade marinara sauce. The garlic sticks had olive oil and pesto on top. They were divine! Not too garlicky, nice and cheesy, and they were nice and crispy with a focaccia like dough. Would definitely recommend any of these as starters! Onto the pizza. We ordered an MVP, Angel, and Big Hawaiian. All three were absolutely amazing! The crust was outstanding and had nice crunchy edges with a fluffy, flavorful focaccia like texture. Similar to the garlic sticks, the pizza was still nice and crisp and far from soggy, even after sitting in a box. The MVP is one of the pizzas they are known for. It includes their house made vodka sauce, pesto, and red sauce, with a sesame seeded crust. Never had a pizza with all 3 of these sauces before, but wow the flavor of each one pulled through. The sesame seeded crust added an unusual, but studying element to the pizza to give it a more complex flavor and gave it an even crispier texture. This pizza was very bold and flavorful and I would recommend trying it! The Angel pizza included truffled mushroom cream, dollops of ricotta, and mushrooms. The ricotta was SO creamy and paired perfectly the truffled mushroom sauce on top as well as the fresh mushrooms. It is a white based pizza. Again, I must note the creaminess of the high quality ricotta cheese and truffled mushrooms. This was a really unique take on a mushroom pizza and was executed perfectly. If you like mushrooms, this one is for you! Now we all agreed the Big Hawaiian was the star of the show. I was surprised because I wasn't expecting this pizza to be as good as it was. It had ezzo pepperoni, bacon, pineapple, and a Chile glaze on top. The pepperoni was nice and thick, the meat to pineapple proportion was perfect, and the smokiness of the meats paired perfectly with the sweetness of the pineapple. The Chile glaze added another element of sweetness that enhanced the flavor of the pineapple. This was absolutely amazing and we had no complaints! Their Hawaiian pizza was very unique and like nothing we've had before. Probably one of the best Hawaiian pizzas I've had, the ingredients were so fresh. Overall, we were not disappointed with our experience at Emmy's. The salads were really fresh with bold flavors and the garlic sticks had an immense amount of flavor. The pizza wasn't too heavy and the crispy focaccia like crust was incredible. All three pizzas we ordered were all unique with completely different flavor profiles. The portions were satisfying and we weren't overstuffed. The quality of the ingredients justifies the price. Nothing we ordered disappointed us and I definitely understand the hype surrounding this pizza joint.
