Cute tea shop with a large selection of teas. Used the groupon for the high tea for 2, and I didn't realize there was a preset menu. The preset menu did provide a variety of options, but we were unfamiliar with many of the foods. No one explained what we were served or what flavor anything was. Some items looked like desserts but they were surprisingly savory. Definitely go with an open mind for new flavors and ask the staff what everything is once you get it. Our server was clearly overwhelmed on a Friday afternoon so we did not want to be a bother. read more

For my first experience this was the best! From the tea to the teacups to the finger foods, to the staff. Amazing! The relaxed ambiance of this quaint tea spot will no doubt have you coming back again and again. I know I will! read more

It was a dreary Monday, a perfect day for English tea. If you've ever been to a classy, English-style tea, be aware that Emma's is not at all stuffy or formal. The atmosphere here is cozy and laid-back, and you don't need reservations even for afternoon tea with all the trimmings. That said, I would suggest perusing the menu on the website beforehand because you can check out items and prices to see what makes sense for you. As others have noted, you have to pay up front at the cashier so there's not a lot of time to stand around looking at the menu. My sister and I ordered the Queen BE Tea set for two, but at $32.50 per person, it offered varying values depending on what kind of sandwich you ordered. Each of our sets included a cup of soup ($3.95 if ordered a la carte), plus a sandwich (mine was $13.50 if ordered alone), a personal pot of tea with cream, a savory scone, butter, jam, cheese and sliced fruit garnish ($10.25 on its own), plus a cookie, petit four and mini-cupcake (not sure on the individual pricing but it resulted in a $4.80 value after considering other items on my set). If ordered a la carte, my sister's egg & cress sandwich was only $9.95, so the same cookie, petit four and mini-cupcake represented a cost of $8.35 on her set. I would think they'd throw in a couple extra cookies to compensate for her less expensive sandwich. But they didn't. The presentation was charming, with mismatched tea cups and hand-knitted tea cozies and everything else on a tiered tray. However the food itself was unfortunately hit-or-miss for me. My mushroom soup was quite tasty, although the croutons tasted like they'd been sitting around awhile. The filling in my smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich was good, but the bread was a bit dry at the edges (and the crusts were left on!!). The chedder scones were pretty good and the butter was nice and spreadable. But the "fruit garnish" of apples and orange slices didn't look very appealing, e.g. orange slices with mostly pithy rind, and very small, uneven apple slices. As for the little sweets, the jam-topped cookie and petit four were delish, but the mini-cupcake was super-dry and the icing tasted off and looked kind of smushed. Overall, the experience was fun, the service was cheerful, and it's a nice, girly thing to do with a sister or friend. I do think they could up their consistency and food quality, though, and remember to cut off the sandwich crusts! read more

All the stars for this very fun tea shop that we visited while on vacation. We loved the decor, the food and the tea were delicious as well as the London Fog cake that we took to go. While we didn't have high tea, everything on the trays at the other tables looked delicious as well. Love all of the teapot cosies as well! read more

There are very few places that when you walk in, they envelop you. How often do you use that word, envelop? There is no other word that came to mind as I stepped into this corner establishment, expecting a quaint, small, creative cafe. Oh my. Quaint, yes. Small, no. You walk in and I am being honest with you, you are transported to a complete different British time-traveling machine, yes. maybe even a bit of Dr. Who. I thought I knew Baltimore but was surprised and interested in the side of Baltimore outside of the harbor, more on the Hamiltin side, and truly had no idea so much business was located on this side. So the unexpected corner entrance, Yes. Once inside... ... a complete welcome without even having to be greeted. The smells, the sounds, and especially the environment, tea parties at various tables, the lunchware clinking behind the counter, the explosion of all British - from teapots, to snacks, to Turkish Delights and scones, I mean EVERYTHING. From being transported between Harry Potter and Buckingham Palace, it was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING to take in the details that surrounded me of the very specific china, serving tea pots warmed with their own "jackets", and investments as well into local honey and coffee - local - goods right along with am armory of British goods, some never seen and I dived right in and tried a whole assortment. Emma and her staff- amazing. They are so incredibly welcoming, even at one of the busiest times of the afternoon, she still, amid preparing several orders was 100% absolutely welcoming, inviting, as well her staff. She was able to literally juggle 4-5 asks, treats her customers with the flair of the Queen herself, and before you know it- BLIMEY! There is perhaps the best cup of tea, best served scone, or best tasting tuna sandwich you sarnie you ever laid eyes on. Her swholetaff exhibited the same care, and on top, Emma manages to support local non profits as well such as the Nanticoke River Watershed Conservancy pre Easter auction- and if I were you, I would be clamoring to bring a group to her amazing British tea spot to truly, TRULY TRULY TRULY, experience the REAL DEAL when it comes to British delights at brekkie or a luncheon. There is not enough room to describe how amazing this find was in the Baltimore area, but individuals from all over should search out and take in all this amazing establishment offers, which a British isle worth. This made my whole week and it will make yours too! read more

I had previously submitted a review, and it's obvious the review I had posted was based on a couple of days of hiccups. And let's be honest, everyone and every business has an off day, that's reality. I firmly say this place is amazing. It is a small business and that in itself is not easy to operate. In today's climate. They sincerely do their very best to provide amazing service. They are kind and very lovely human beings. Their product is amazing. The scones are out of this world as well as their tea sandwiches. Once you buy yourself some tea and I recommend the Earl Gray looseleaf tea to take home and make yourself even if you have had tea service in the restaurant because once you have some at the store you'll want to be able to make it at home. You will never want to buy another teabag again from the grocery store, the brand that they provide is virtually impossible to find in any store and there is a huge difference between this product and the box of teabags you buy at the grocery store. Absolutely give this place a try and it will become a local favorite. I don't spend much time here even though I do live in the area I work out of town, so whenever I am home, I absolutely must go and get a fix. This will easily become a local favorite for anyone , who treats their self and their taste buds. read more

The food is delicious. And Emma, the owner, has continued to decorate to make the place as cozy as possible -- still, I feel like I'm eating in a small grocery store rather than in a cozy tea place. All of this in consideration, I really love the place. My kids have taken me there for my birthday each year over the last 3-4 years. But this year? This year, there were different staff working there. I thought one was a clown, and that she must be there for a child's tea, but it turned out she was just "uniquely unto herself." Now this wasn't so much a big turn-off as the fact that she and her smaller shadowed co-worker refused to look up as we entered Emma's Tea Spot. In fact, we had walked up right up to the register where she and the other one were talking. It was obvious we were there and needed to check in (we had reservations). Yet, this person would not look up at us. She finally said in a gruff voice (while still looking down), "Yeah, what do you want?!" I thought to myself, is she serious? We want to be greeted in a decent manner and be told where to sit or be escorted to our table. She, instead, simply thrust 3 menus for tea selection at us, and then added another menu -- but she said nothing. We were confused. This was not our usual custom at Emma's. The person stood there and waited for us to say something. We were astonished because in the past, we would be seated and then we were told what to expect, then we would be served after which we would pay and leave a tip. This time was completely different. We had to choose which sandwiches we wanted in addition to choosing tea (about which I was told, "Nope, pick another one!), but none of this was explained to us. The woman acted like this was commonplace as if I had just walked into a McDonald's. Furthermore, we usually always pay at the end when we leave a tip. This time, we had to pay upfront before we would be served. Not a problem, but could the person have explained this to us? Instead, she made us feel like our presence was not wanted. Now, all of which I mentioned (in that they changed their serving format) was acceptable -- though it was weird. Not at all our usual experience. But the demeanor of the person who took our orders was cold, rude, and downright unacceptable. We should've turned around and left. Instead, we stayed, hoping for the best. As I said, the food is good...but that's about it. Once seated, I noticed that our table had not been serviced recently as we were out of honey, had no sugar on the table, and when we received our tea cups, they wobbled. When I asked the server something, she ignored me and walked away. No one would look up for anyone! It was bizarre! And Emma was there cleaning and not looking up which gave the sense she did not want to be seen or bothered. Oh, and get this: to add insult to injury, they gave me a chipped cup that tore at my right bottom lip. Some may find this quaint, but I found it painful, to say the least. Oh, and the music is not what it used to be. Now the music sounds like something you hear when a dark-tinted windowed SUV or sports car rides up next to your car and you have to roll up all the windows. Emma, do you think someone who wants to have high tea wants to listen to that kind of sound?! What happened to the soft music? Long story short, I told my kids to never take me there again. They agreed. The food was good but the service and atmosphere is horrible. I actually had 3 nightmares about the place since our final visit. Truly disappointed! :( read more

Adorable tea shop! The food was good., and the presentation was nice. We had a Groupon for high tea which is Chef's choice, I think I'd like to go again and select items off of the menu, so that I can sample other items. I did not love the Macarons. I really wasn't impressed with the desserts we received with the tea... kind of disappointed that we didn't receive Petit Fours. But the scones were delicious, in fact we purchased some to go! Nice spot for an afternoon tea! The ambiance and the staff is what made me fall in love with this shop! It is a spectacular little gem in Hamilton. read more

Took my Wife to Emma's for high tea on her birthday. I figured I would make the sacrifice because I knew she would enjoy it. Even though I didn't do it properly since I grabbed one of the goodies from the top tier first, it was all good. Review Disappointed is one word I would use to describe our tea experience at Emma's tea spot. My daughter and I have a tradition of having high tea to celebrate the beginning of a new school year and this was our 14th tea as she is about to embark on college. We decided to try a new spot as I purchased a Groupon for high tea for 2. Upon our ordering we were immediately told that there is a separate menu for us that offered NO Modifications or substitutions. The Groupon never stated that we could not choose the sandwiches we wanted and would not have a choice if would want sweet or a savory scone. We both have food sensitivity to egg, and they were extremely inflexible to our request to just have a vegetable based sandwich. In fact we were charged an extra $10 per person for this request. $20 for cucumber slices. Ok, then. After sitting down for a couple minutes they came over to say they ran out of our tea preference (English breakfast, are you kidding?) So we had to order an alternate tea. After another 50 minutes, the manger/server came over to say after we ordered they realized they were out of scones so more had to be baked which would take another 20 minutes. My question is, if they realized after we ordered 50 minutes ago- why did this take so long to correct? Terrible, terrible service. We eventually got our scones later than the estimated time and started to eat. No one came over to check on us. While the food was fine, there are other tea shops in the Baltimore area that provide good food but much better service. If I could give 0 stars I would. read more

I went to Emma's Tea Spot yesterday with a group. We were extremely disappointed. We have attended wonderful high teas at other establishments and were looking forward to this for months. The entire experience was awful. Food: this was terrible. Bread was stale, selection was not great and we did not get the same items despite ordering the same meals. The "cheese" looked like it was bad (I didn't try it) This was very disappointing. For $35 plus tip I expect much better and to leave full. I left hungry and frustrated. Service: It was complete chaos. No one knew what they were doing. The service was horrible and frankly I'm annoyed I tipped what I did at the beginning. Having to pay and tip before getting horrible service just makes the service even worse. I will not be back ever again and will make sure to share my horrible experience with others. I shared my frustration with the "server" and she didn't see to care. I will take the hour drive to annapolis in the future for other teas. read more

Firstly, I have to blame this on the owner because apparently someone was out sick and the poor girl at the counter was doing her very best. Not her fault. Tea was delicious. Soup was awful. Salad was a plate of spring mix. The sandwich tasted like my mom packed my lunch for school. Had to change our order multiple times because they couldn't make half of the menu. I really hope this was a one-off but I doubt we will ever come back. read more

I love tea and everything to do with it, and I was not disappointed! The atmosphere was very cute and very chill, the service was friendly and attentive. The tea selection was pretty good - not too much and a great variety. I won a free cream tea for two, and we ended up getting extras as well: savory scone, sweet scone, soup of the day, and 2 different sandwiches. Everything was delicious (especially that savory scone with clotted cream and mango chutney! whew!!). I'd been here once before and each time has been special and beyond my expectations. read more

We met a friend here for lunch on a Sunday. The space used to be a corner grocery store, so the vibe is more wood and metal then the last British tea shop I went to, which was all cushions and doilies. Although you can read a menu at your table, you order and later pay at the counter. We sampled a variety of sandwiches and salads, all of which were pronounced excellent. The portions are small, which either means good news for your waistline, or you'll still have room for dessert, such as the decadent layer cake displayed by the register. Tea comes hot or cold. Paraphanelia from across the pond for sale, including Marmite, as well as local good like cards. Single bathrooms with changing tables (and supplies!) available in the back, so bring the kiddies to enjoy high culture in a casual atmosphere. read more

A little slice of England in Baltimore. This place offers a variety of tea and biscuits as well as sandwiches (which are referred to as Sarnies informally in the UK). I recommend the coronation chicken sarnie, which has curry and a delightful flavor. In terms of the teas, I only tried the jasmine tea. It was slightly on the bitter side, but the ginger biscuits helped bring out a sweeter flavor. Overall, this is a good place to visit if you're in the Baltimore area and looking for a British styled tea and biscuits fix! read more

I came here as part of the Baltimore Geek Girl Brunch group. We called twice and talked to staff to make sure they would have room for us and that they were expecting us and they said that while they do not do reservations except for high tea, we could easily be accommodated. Then we arrived today and the owner (I guess, a dark haired British woman) was very surprised to see us. She was very short with us. She seemed very agitated and was argumentative. We reminded her that we had called (twice) and that she had even posted about the event to Emma's Teaspot Instagram account and it was also posted to the Emma's Facebook page and Emma herself commented that she was looking forward to seeing us. She argued that it wasn't an event on her page but just a post. Not sure what that had to do with anything but it was proof she knew we were coming and a way to contact the group if she had questions. And she said she was looking forward to it! However, it was pretty clear she was flustered and not happy we were there. After about 10 minutes, they arranged seating. Members of the group helped her move a table so we could sit near each other. We all ordered individually and paid at the counter. Tea started coming out an hour later. Food, 90% of which was just reheated scones or baked goods, came out over an hour and half after we arrived and continued arriving a full 2 hrs after we sat down. Most of the group had to move cars/feed meters before we were even served. The food was fine. Nothing special. The tea was fine. The highlight by far was the tea cozies! The place is very cute. I understand that they don't take reservations for large groups but surely the (any?) restaurant is equipped to serve 10-12 people between the hours of 10 and 12:30 pm that we were there. We all ordered and paid at the counter so there was no real wait staff- just runners. I don't see how even if they weren't expecting us, our orders and volume were any different than that would occur at a typical "lunch rush" except we deliberately arrived during off peak hours (10 AM) to make it easier on Emma's to seat us together. We could have easily just been a couple of small groups walking in off the street. All but about 4 orders were literally tea and cookies/scones/baked goods, it shouldn't have taken 2 hrs to be served. The four people who ordered more food just ordered sandwiches or a salad, nothing fancy or elaborate. It took 1 hr, 45 minutes to get the reheated pastry you see here. I'm sure of this because I had leave the restaurant to move my car (2 hr parking) before I was served. There were two small high teas being served at the during time that had reservations so maybe that slowed them down? Still, they should have said that they could not accommodate a group or at least took a note that we were coming in since we just talked to them 3 days ago and two weeks before that. While we were there, only a few people came in off the street. When we left the owner(?) came out and thanked us in a odd, seemingly passive aggressive way thanking us for "spending our money" and coming in such a "massive group". She repeated it twice. It was incredibly off-putting to the group and we all agreed we would not return for a future event. We were all still hungry when we left so we stopped at the lovely bakery down the street (Batch) and they were delighted to take our orders despite not expecting us--the way a business should. read more

I should have done a bit more research before extending an invitation for "high tea". I place high tea in parenthesis because my expectation for high tea is very similar to Tea on the Tiber in Old Ellicott City or Reynolds Tavern in Annapolis. When I arrived to Emma's I was not expecting to see the tables so close to the door, and not even one footstep away from another party/table. Because of this it was very hard to enjoy the expected high tea experience. This is more of an modern tea house where you can choose to have tea, brunch or have a high tea like experience in a fast paced environment. I chose the earl grey with lavender because it was a rushed decision that did not come with much guidance/recommendation. The tea was great but the experience was definitely less than desired. I probably wouldn't return, but felt bad for extending an invitation to someone for their first high tea experience as Emma's didn't provide that. read more

Absolutely lovely tea spot. I appreciate that it has a casual feel. The decor is adorable and well thought out. Their menu is extensive and includes more than just your traditional high tea (soups, salads, many sandwiches). I however wanted to try a little of everything and treated myself to high tea. Everything was fantastic! There was my choice of sandwich (cucumber), scone (I went with sweet, but they had savory), fruit, and sweets (a cookie, a macaroon, and a mini lemon pie). On the first Friday night of the month they stay open at night and have live music. The owner was just as sweet as the desserts. I will be back soon! read more

The staff was friendly and the atmosphere is adorable. Three of us went with a Groupon for "High Tea for 3". We ordered two sandwiches that each had an extra $2 upcharge. However, when we paid, with no other add ons, our total was $25 above the Groupon coupon price. We asked why, but the staff just said the Groupon didn't cover what it said it did. So, we paid over $100 for lunch. The sandwiches were very small. Scones were good. Tea was good. We would not have gone had we known it would be that expensive for lunch, due to the hidden, unexplained extra cost. read more

Everything was yummy, fresh and delicious. Cucumber sandwiches were very good. The tea was plentiful and we got four cups out of one pot. The scone was amazing, easily one of the best I have had. My family is going to London on vacation and we wanted to surprise our kids with the news about the trip. We decided to do it at Emma's Tea Spot because of its British theme. We called Emma ahead of time and told her our plan. She made sure to individualize the menu for us to accommodate our daughter's egg allergy. And she also came over to our table during a busy shift, pulled a chair up, and spent at least 20 minutes talking to us about London and answering all of our children's many questions about the country. She was ingratiating and funny and we all loved her. Truth be told, we were all still a little hungry after eating the tiny tea sandwiches, scones, macaroons and fruit. But I suppose high tea is not supposed to fill you like Thanksgiving dinner. So that's a lesson for us. :-) Other than that everything was delicious, the tea selection was plentiful, and the shop is charming. Bonus: It was a rainy day outside, just as we imagine it will be in London when we go. I'm pretty sure Emma ordered that weather up just for us, to add to the authenticity! Tea at Emma's is a fun experience and the shop is such a cute addition to Baltimore's Hamilton neighborhood. I highly recommend! Get there spit-spot! read more

Love the High Tea for two. The tea and goodies are excellent and the service is exceptional.

Cute place. Service left a lot to be desired. Although the tables are numbered, we frequently got other people's food/beverages and had to send it away. Our tea came out quickly but my friend got the wrong tea; they said they'd bring her a new pot of the tea she ordered but it never came. The high tea 3 tiers took forever, we actually had to get up and go to the counter to ask what happened. It was not that busy. The chef apologized when they finally came out. The sandwiches on the bottom tier were nothing special; in fact, I really didn't care for them. The scones were very dry and not flavorful. The sweets were overly sweet. I didn't finish a single thing I tried (and I tried almost everything). And, we never saw another server again to check on us. 5 stars though for having tea cozies on every pot of tea - that is one of my biggest pet peeves when I go to high teas in the U.S. versus in England (England always serves with tea cozies). The other thing that bugged me was that the chef provided a description to us that included mango chutney, lemon curd, and cheese, none of which we got. I did appreciate that since no one ever checked on us, it also meant no one chased us out at the end of 2 hours (which is what they tell you is the length of a seating); we were there about 2.5 hours (but remember we had to wait a long time until we got our food). I don't recommend, especially for anyone who has had a proper tea in England. I will not return. read more

A cozy, cute, and very British place to grab an afternoon tea with a friend! I've come two times and always have gotten the tea for two, which has always had delicious (albeit a little small) sandwiches, the creamiest clotted creams and chutneys to go with the scones, and a seasonal selection of different fruits and pastries. The tea cozies that they give you the teapots in are absolutely adorable, and the staff do a great job helping you pick out a tea if you're unsure. I've always thoroughly enjoyed my experience here, and I've even brought my friends who've lived in the UK to see how they might like it (they loved it and have said the sandwiches were better than some they've had in London). The interior is incredibly homey and inviting, and they also have a corner in the back dedicated to British goods and small mementos read more

The english breakfast tea was really awful, it was so weak and just overall disappointing. Using twinnings is definitely not authentic and just a bad move. I will start by saying this is not my scene. I had never been to a proper tea joint before my visit to Emma's. I met a friend on a Sunday afternoon, we had reservations, and it was crowded as hell. There was no place to park in their back lot so I parked on a residential street and walked up. The interior is laid back and there are a decent amount of wares for sale, which I like. What I don't like is how confusing it is for someone unfamiliar with high tea to know what they are doing. I was unaware the reservation meant my friend had signed up for high tea? So that was canceled for just me and I got a sandwich instead because I didn't want to spend 22 bucks on me nibbling on a few things since I was not very hungry. The tower and tea pot still came out for my friend... so essentially I still could have eaten off the tray and not have paid the $21 pp price. It is not clear what you get and for what price. And you pay first, so it's all quick and overwhelming and there is not much guidance. Additionally - if you walk in off the street it's also confusing because the menus are in a stack on the cash register counter and aren't obvious things to order from. Anyways - the prawn sandwich I ordered was... fine. The tea was good (tangerine ginger). Our table wobbled like crazy. My friend enjoyed the scones and jam. Customer service was very friendly, albeit our food did take a long time to come out. Our rez was at 1:30pm and we stayed after closing 3pm plainly because our food didn't come out until around 2:15pm. IDK, I wasn't into my experience there as a brunch/lunch spot and I wouldn't be inclined to go here for high tea, either. But I also just don't think high tea is for me. So if you're into it, come with a group and enjoy yourselves. People in there seemed to be having a great time. read more
