After doing quite a bit of research into rooms in the city of Ojai prior to our vacation, I came across the Emerald Iguana Inn as well as their sister property the Blue Iguana Inn. After seeing the unique room stylings (each of which is different and several that are adjoining for larger parties), the lushly beautiful grounds and the fact that there would not be small children present the Green Iguana Inn was an easy choice. It is only around a mile or so to Main Street although we opted to drive and not walk or make use of the on-site bike rentals offered by the property. The room I chose to book was the Treehouse room which is a quiet upstairs unit right near and above the front office and overlooks the grounds and toward the pool area. The room had a large King sized bed, a large walk in shower, a large 2-person claw foot tub, a large bathroom with dual sinks and a nice upstairs patio with loungers and a beautifully painted koi pond mosaic painted on the tile ground near the door. The large bay windows and blinds let in plenty of natural light and the room itself was substantially larger than I expected from the photos at the time of booking. The room was beautifully decorated and we walked in to towels folded in the shape of swans with rose petals and lavender on the bed, which was an add on for our anniversary. We also opted in for a continental breakfast bowl for 2 ($20) that came with oatmeal, bagels with butter and cream cheese, boxes of raisins, nutrigrain bars, tangerines, hard boiled eggs, yogurts with granola, 2 cartons of milk and 2 small cans of orange juice. The property also has a small pool and hot tub on site that is very quiet as well and although it was hot outside and in town during our stay, the pool was not heated so it was quite cold and we were not able to swim but it was refreshing to cool off in nonetheless. Another perk is the community room where you can help yourself to additional coffee and tea, board games, dvds and other assorted goods free of charge. The staff was very good and friendly and helpful throughout. At time of check-in we were given our key (1 or 2 provided depending on your needs) and were given a brief layout tour of the grounds and were walked upstairs to our room. We were never not satisfied with any aspect of our stay here and it was perfect for the 2 nights we had booked in town. Our only noise came during night one where we heard what sounded like banging or something outside and when I walked out realized it was a couple raccoons on the roof of our room but it quickly stopped and they went about their business. Checkout was also a cinch and I simply walked in and dropped the key on the counter and our receipt was emailed to us right away. This was a great stay and relaxing from beginning to end and I will definitely stay here again during future stays in this beautiful little town. I highly recommend checking then out for your stay if you are looking for quiet and relaxation. If you have small children please also check out their Blue Iguana Inn property that is more family oriented as well.

An extremely quiet, clean, well appointed and beautiful place. I recommend this property over the Blue Iguana, for the silence from the highway. And the staff is professional and helpful, even when we set off the smoke alarms (She wanted her toast darker). Thank you for a great mid week stay!

The Emerald Iguana Inn is nestled in a small neighborhood, a few blocks from the middle of downtown Ojai. This bohemian boutique inn is a tranquil property that is unconventional, artistic & unique in style. Procedures for placing a reservation and check-in & check-out are all completed on-line, and therefore completely contactless. The welcoming owner, Julia, informed us about their response to CV-19 with modified amenities, and reduced staff services. This property offers rooms, studios and full cottages surrounding a centralized pool & whirlpool spa. Their accommodations feature original artworks by local artist Marc Whitman. The Inn has lush mature landscaping & attractive gardens, that create a very quiet and peaceful atmosphere. Some of our suite's furnishings need refreshing as they were a bit aged, but most of the beautiful wood furniture & rugs were tastefully chosen and placed. The king size bed was very comfortable and was fitted with fine linens & comforter that helped to easily slip us into slumberland. Our two-level suite was extremely clean & nicely furnished. One drawback is that there is little privacy with multiple adjoining patios and the rooms closely clustered together. We enjoyed our stay here.

Hidden Gem of a place. Beautiful rooms, spacious, clean and very close to restaurants. Highly recommend, great alternative if you don't want to pay crazy prices at Ojai Valley Inn. We rented two rooms for a family reunion. One had a second bedroom loft and other room was a two bedroom white which was very nice and had a patio.

The Emerald Iguana Inn is absolutely enchanting. Upon check in, we were greeted by a very sweet and welcoming young lady. She was thrilled that we made it earlier than our expected arrival time. She had some great suggestions for dinner. I also loved how she walked us to our room and showed me how to work the air conditioner. This is very important to me and I'm very grateful. We stayed in the Peacock Suite. Spacious, comfortable and very inviting. Our bed faced the private patio, which made the morning even more beautiful. As you walk around you can hear the fountains all around. This definitely added to the relaxing ambiance. The shower had a very night high window that allowed natural sunlight to shine in. Not to mention that the shower was very nice and roomy. We never made it out in time for breakfast. Just coffee for us. Our room had a full kitchen. Stocked with everything you could need. The refrigerator had several drink options available for purchase in case you needed a caffeine kick. Most importantly, two wine glasses and a wine opener where waiting for us patiently. Just a few things that stood out - None of which would change my 5 star rating*** The bathroom layout is a little strange. If I could redesign it I would switch the location of the toilet and the huge walk in closet. Feels a little odd using the restroom and having to walk into another room in order to wash my hands. The patio water fountain wasn't working, which was a bummer. SPIDERS if you are like me and do not welcome hitch hikers, keep your bags closed! First morning a spider was walking around my clothes. Oh and make sure you shake your towels off aggressively :) To ensure that the spider gets off your towel! Getting out of the bathtub I was greeted by a spider on the towel. Wine tasting and restaurants are only a few blocks away and close enough to walk. So put on some comfy shoes and enjoy this adorable little town. I can't wait to go back and actually enjoy the pool. Too much to do in such a short amount of time. Thanks for the memories!

I love both Iguana Inn locations so much! Last week I spent one night at the Emerald location and it was just as cute and cozy as the Blue Iguana. This property is specifically catered to adults (no children) which can be a nice amenity when you want a more mature setting. My bf and I stayed in the Grasshopper room which came just as advertised. Cozy, clean and cute. My only gripes would be the size of the bathroom (it's tiny) and the broken blinds that covered the glass bedroom door. A piece of the wooden blinds was missing right at waist/ bed level . We managed to hang a scarf over the top of the door and it took care of that issue. Great staff with an easy check in. Highly recommend a stay at the Emerald Iguana.

Third time here. Great place to stay. Spacious rooms, excellent customer service. The pool, spa and grounds are very welcoming.

This is a cool, quirky place that is relaxing and comfortable. It's one of those places that you stay at and decide that if you came back to the area you wouldn't stay anywhere else. Maggie greeted us and showed us our room - the Treehouse - a second floor room on the property. She was very sweet and informative and really made us feel welcome. This inn is for adults only and quiet is strictly enforced. It's located about 6 or so blocks from the main drag in Ojai, a short walk through a residential neighborhood. Our room was clean, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was huge with two sinks and an old style bathtub and modern shower and several wooden dressers and cabinets filled out the room. Skylights, art pieces and a fireplace added to the comforting feel. Oddly they do not provide complimentary water as most inns do but they do have the typically overpriced snack bar. A basic complimentary continental breakfast is provided in a small room next to the swimming pool. If you're looking for the perfect place to stay in the area or just want a peaceful weekend getaway, this is the spot!

We came on a Saturday early afternoon and started at one of their restaurants. The food was amazing, but service was definitely on the slower side. The resort is huge and has so many activities tennis, golf, bike rentals and more. After that, we headed over to the spa and spent the rest of the day relaxing by the pool. The vibe was so calm, mostly women just chatting, unwinding, and enjoying each other in this peaceful little paradise. We ordered smoothies poolside and omg...so fresh and refreshing. Service at the spa pool was great, everyone seemed to be working together seamlessly and checking in often without being overbearing. For many years, Ojai Valley Inn was one of my favorite destinations. I have stayed at the resort…read moreseven or eight times and always considered it a special place to celebrate important occasions. Unfortunately, after my recent experience, I do not plan to return. For Father's Day weekend, I booked what I hoped would be a memorable getaway for my husband and me. I prepaid $5,364.45 for a two-night stay in a Deluxe King with a View Room. In addition, I made dinner reservations at the resort's fine dining restaurant, scheduled a golf outing for two because my husband loves golf, and booked a couples massage. I was genuinely looking forward to a special and relaxing weekend. On June 5, I searched for Ojai Valley Inn on Google and called the phone number that appeared online. Unbeknownst to me, I was connected to a third-party reservation company called Hotel Reservations rather than the resort directly. I received a confirmation email that included Ojai Valley Inn's name, a confirmation number, an itinerary number, and proof of payment. After driving nearly three hours from Newport Beach to the resort, I was shocked to learn that Ojai Valley Inn could not locate my reservation. I presented all of my documentation and confirmation details, yet after nearly an hour of waiting, the issue remained unresolved. I contacted Hotel Reservations while standing at the front desk, and they confirmed that a reservation existed in their system. Unfortunately, the third-party company and the hotel were unable to reconcile the discrepancy. What disappointed me most was not the reservation issue itself, but the hotel's response. The front desk associate assisting us was kind, empathetic, mentioned they will have a room available for us, and appeared genuinely committed to finding a solution. However, when the front desk manager, Morgan Giuseponi, became involved, I felt that very little effort was made to accommodate us despite our circumstances. Given our longstanding history with the resort, our prepaid reservation, and the fact that we already had dining, golf, and spa reservations on property, I expected some attempt to help us remain at the resort. Instead, we were informed that the hotel was fully booked and were advised to seek accommodations elsewhere. Whether the issue originated with the third-party booking company or elsewhere, I had hoped Ojai Valley Inn would demonstrate the level of hospitality and problem-solving that luxury resorts are known for. Rather than allowing the situation to ruin Father's Day weekend, we chose to stay at Rosewood Miramar Beach instead. Fortunately, the experience there was exceptional. From the moment we arrived, the service was warm, attentive, and proactive. The contrast in customer care was impossible to ignore. Luxury hospitality is not measured by how a property performs when everything goes according to plan. It is measured by how it responds when something goes wrong. In this case, I left feeling that Ojai Valley Inn was unwilling to help a loyal, repeat guest during a difficult situation. This experience was deeply disappointing and has permanently changed my perception of a resort I once loved. While the reservation issue may not have been entirely the hotel's fault, the lack of effort to find a solution certainly was. For that reason, I will not be returning.

The photos on their website are also very misleading, the space is much much smaller than it appears. I even attempted to host a Zoom meeting from inside, but had to cancel because the noise made it impossible to hear anything. When we raised these issues with the office, their suggestion was to open the windows, which only added insult to injury because of how uncomfortably hot it was inside. To make matters worse , when they eventually offered a partial refund, it came less than an hour before the time they required us to vacate, and we weren't even on-site at the time. After we informed them that we had checked out early, they offered an even smaller refund, which we have still not received a month later. Overall, a very disappointing experience. It is very clean and the renovations were clearly very intentional with design in mind. It is an incredibly cohesive property. The rooms themselves are comfortable and I loved that the temperature was very adjustable. The bathroom was a bit bizarre. I will never understand the appeal to the shower design. It's the kind of shower that is only separated from the rest of the bathroom by half of a glass wall. Which just means, no matter how careful you are, the entire bathroom will be soaked. In terms of property amenities, the ample free parking was a huge plus. And the complementary bikes seemed great, thought we didn't get a chance to take advantage of them. There is a nice large field in the back which would be a great place to stargaze at night. We did check out the hot tub on the last morning, and I was very disappointed that it was hardly warm. The rooms come with a unique selection of snacks for purchase, but I was shocked to see they were charging $4 for the packet of instant coffee next to the kettle. I'm glad I noticed they were charging for that, because I would've assumed it was free. No chance that's worth it. There was decent coffee available in the lobby for free. When looking at a map, it showed it was only a 10-15 minute walk into the main stretch of town, so we planned to walk daily. Unfortunately, there is just enough distance on the road between the hotel and the downtown where there is no sidewalk, to a point where we felt it would be unsafe to walk at night. So we had to drive 2 minutes down the road instead. If they were able to create a path with a street lamp or two, that would make a huge difference! The staff was incredibly nice and I was glad they were able to help out with anything we needed! I did find it a bit odd that the hotel is only staffed 8AM-10PM. Their "European" breakfast seemed no better than a Holiday Inn Express. A lot of it is prepackaged stuff. The "assorted cheeses" are identical to the pre-sliced packaged stuff from Vons as is the bread and bagels. The only effort put into appears to be the hard-boiled eggs (unpeeled, of course). They could easily step it up several notches by sourcing pastries from locals, making oatmeal to serve, and getting a decent cheese and meat selection, but after the second disappointing day of the exact same thing we headed to town for breakfast. For us, the most off-putting thing was all the ridiculous signs everywhere! We counted 22 separate signs from driving in the entrance to opening the door to our room - four or five were helpful. And then there's all the signage IN your room (did you really need to label the ice bucket as "Ice Bucket"???). It seems like someone just went to town with a label maker and laminator. Maybe just us, but we felt it was tacky, unnecessary and detracting.
