We had a wonderful romantic weekend getaway at Emerald Iguana Hotel and would definitely stay here again. The Frog Suite was charming, spacious, and perfect for a couple's escape. We loved having a cozy fireplace, full kitchen, living room, and private porch. One helpful tip for future guests: if you'd like to enjoy the porch in the evening, the porch lights can be turned off. We didn't discover the switch until our second night--the switch is by the second door, not the main entrance. The location was great, with an easy drive into town while still feeling quiet and relaxing. The only minor downside was being awakened before 8:00 a.m. Saturday by workers on the attached building's roof. It wasn't loud construction, but we could hear footsteps, ladders, and people working overhead. We had booked a weekend stay because the listing indicated there would be no weekend construction. When we mentioned it to the front desk, we were told the workers were on the roof of the neighboring building and that they had hoped guests would already be awake by then. Aside from that, we really enjoyed our stay. The accommodations were comfortable, the suite had lots of character, and we'd happily stay here again. read more

I have stayed at the Blue Iguana in the past. I am reviewing the owner Julia in this post. Although the Inns (both Blue and Emerald) are beautiful, I am having a very hard time with the owner. I booked a room in October of 2025 for a wedding in May 2026 (May 21-May 23). I just received an email this morning letting me know I did not have a room due to construction going on in my particular room which began in January and will not be complete by the time I check in. Not only did Julia not give me any suggestions of where to go, she actually had a room available at a higher cost which she a) did not offer to me for the inconvenience b) did not offer it to me at a discount. Before she emailed me this should have taken care of. Julia's bad planning basically caused me to have to spend a lot more money or cancel the much anticipated wedding of a very close friend. Julia kept silent after apologizing (not profusely btw) for the "inconvenience" she caused. I should have not even heard from her until check in with a "i'm sorry but your original room is under construction so we gave you this better room" I gave the name of this hotel to 2 other people and booked so so far in advance. She did refund my money but it is Memorial day weekend and prices have skyrocketed and nothing is available. I would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to be treated fairly. She had the nerve to tell me the room that was available was a lot more money with no discount nothing. This woman has ZERO business acumen and I can not say enough bad things about her in this one post. It was such an "Oh Well" attitude ...She had so many options to give a) offer me the room b) offer me the room at a discounted rate c) find me a room during the most crowded weekend and offer to pay the difference d) offer me a coupon to come back with a free night ........awful awful awful .....I hope the other people in the party cancel and find something else but they are probably stuck here because nothing is available. read more

After doing quite a bit of research into rooms in the city of Ojai prior to our vacation, I came across the Emerald Iguana Inn as well as their sister property the Blue Iguana Inn. After seeing the unique room stylings (each of which is different and several that are adjoining for larger parties), the lushly beautiful grounds and the fact that there would not be small children present the Green Iguana Inn was an easy choice. It is only around a mile or so to Main Street although we opted to drive and not walk or make use of the on-site bike rentals offered by the property. The room I chose to book was the Treehouse room which is a quiet upstairs unit right near and above the front office and overlooks the grounds and toward the pool area. The room had a large King sized bed, a large walk in shower, a large 2-person claw foot tub, a large bathroom with dual sinks and a nice upstairs patio with loungers and a beautifully painted koi pond mosaic painted on the tile ground near the door. The large bay windows and blinds let in plenty of natural light and the room itself was substantially larger than I expected from the photos at the time of booking. The room was beautifully decorated and we walked in to towels folded in the shape of swans with rose petals and lavender on the bed, which was an add on for our anniversary. We also opted in for a continental breakfast bowl for 2 ($20) that came with oatmeal, bagels with butter and cream cheese, boxes of raisins, nutrigrain bars, tangerines, hard boiled eggs, yogurts with granola, 2 cartons of milk and 2 small cans of orange juice. The property also has a small pool and hot tub on site that is very quiet as well and although it was hot outside and in town during our stay, the pool was not heated so it was quite cold and we were not able to swim but it was refreshing to cool off in nonetheless. Another perk is the community room where you can help yourself to additional coffee and tea, board games, dvds and other assorted goods free of charge. The staff was very good and friendly and helpful throughout. At time of check-in we were given our key (1 or 2 provided depending on your needs) and were given a brief layout tour of the grounds and were walked upstairs to our room. We were never not satisfied with any aspect of our stay here and it was perfect for the 2 nights we had booked in town. Our only noise came during night one where we heard what sounded like banging or something outside and when I walked out realized it was a couple raccoons on the roof of our room but it quickly stopped and they went about their business. Checkout was also a cinch and I simply walked in and dropped the key on the counter and our receipt was emailed to us right away. This was a great stay and relaxing from beginning to end and I will definitely stay here again during future stays in this beautiful little town. I highly recommend checking then out for your stay if you are looking for quiet and relaxation. If you have small children please also check out their Blue Iguana Inn property that is more family oriented as well. read more

Had an amazing time staying in the Grasshopper Room this past weekend. It was beautifully appointed, positively spotless, and set in a magical wooded area with every kind of amenity we could have imagined. The Emerald Iguana Inn is nestled in a small neighborhood, a few blocks from the middle of downtown Ojai. This bohemian boutique inn is a tranquil property that is unconventional, artistic & unique in style. Procedures for placing a reservation and check-in & check-out are all completed on-line, and therefore completely contactless. The welcoming owner, Julia, informed us about their response to CV-19 with modified amenities, and reduced staff services. This property offers rooms, studios and full cottages surrounding a centralized pool & whirlpool spa. Their accommodations feature original artworks by local artist Marc Whitman. The Inn has lush mature landscaping & attractive gardens, that create a very quiet and peaceful atmosphere. Some of our suite's furnishings need refreshing as they were a bit aged, but most of the beautiful wood furniture & rugs were tastefully chosen and placed. The king size bed was very comfortable and was fitted with fine linens & comforter that helped to easily slip us into slumberland. Our two-level suite was extremely clean & nicely furnished. One drawback is that there is little privacy with multiple adjoining patios and the rooms closely clustered together. We enjoyed our stay here. read more

Just checked out. We mentioned the fireplace in our room was not working as well as the DVD player. (We had alerted them to the fireplace the evening before and they said they would check and we never hear back). The woman at the front desk was completely unapologetic and told us we should have 'connected the hdmi cable and next time let us know before 3pm about the fireplace." We didn't even check in before 3! She essentially said 'go F yourself' with a smile on her face. Left us with a really bad taste. The wife and I hit up the Emerald Iguana for our annual birthday/anniversary celebration. We were VERY glad we selected this hotel. We were stoked to hear that it's child-free. Exactly the type of place we wanted to stay. The individual bungalow-style of the rooms was really fun. Each room was very clean and large. We had our own small, but full size fully-furnished kitchen, a large living/dining room, and a good size bathroom. The bedroom was also ample. I'm a pool and hot tub guy, so I was in those things a couple times each day. There was only one time where I had to share either of them with others. Really relaxing! It's about a mile away from the "stuff" in town, which is totally walkable. We did find it to be a bit of a drag walking back to the hotel at the end of the day. The road was juuust enough of an uphill along dimly lit streets that had no sidewalk to make it not super awesome after eating, tasting, and walking around all day. I'd hit this place up again next year for sure! read more

The Emerald Iguana Inn is absolutely enchanting. Upon check in, we were greeted by a very sweet and welcoming young lady. She was thrilled that we made it earlier than our expected arrival time. She had some great suggestions for dinner. I also loved how she walked us to our room and showed me how to work the air conditioner. This is very important to me and I'm very grateful. We stayed in the Peacock Suite. Spacious, comfortable and very inviting. Our bed faced the private patio, which made the morning even more beautiful. As you walk around you can hear the fountains all around. This definitely added to the relaxing ambiance. The shower had a very night high window that allowed natural sunlight to shine in. Not to mention that the shower was very nice and roomy. We never made it out in time for breakfast. Just coffee for us. Our room had a full kitchen. Stocked with everything you could need. The refrigerator had several drink options available for purchase in case you needed a caffeine kick. Most importantly, two wine glasses and a wine opener where waiting for us patiently. Just a few things that stood out - None of which would change my 5 star rating*** The bathroom layout is a little strange. If I could redesign it I would switch the location of the toilet and the huge walk in closet. Feels a little odd using the restroom and having to walk into another room in order to wash my hands. The patio water fountain wasn't working, which was a bummer. SPIDERS if you are like me and do not welcome hitch hikers, keep your bags closed! First morning a spider was walking around my clothes. Oh and make sure you shake your towels off aggressively :) To ensure that the spider gets off your towel! Getting out of the bathtub I was greeted by a spider on the towel. Wine tasting and restaurants are only a few blocks away and close enough to walk. So put on some comfy shoes and enjoy this adorable little town. I can't wait to go back and actually enjoy the pool. I love both Iguana Inn locations so much! Last week I spent one night at the Emerald location and it was just as cute and cozy as the Blue Iguana. This property is specifically catered to adults (no children) which can be a nice amenity when you want a more mature setting. My bf and I stayed in the Grasshopper room which came just as advertised. Cozy, clean and cute. My only gripes would be the size of the bathroom (it's tiny) and the broken blinds that covered the glass bedroom door. A piece of the wooden blinds was missing right at waist/ bed level . We managed to hang a scarf over the top of the door and it took care of that issue. Great staff with an easy check in. Highly recommend a stay at the Emerald Iguana. read more

This is a cool, quirky place that is relaxing and comfortable. It's one of those places that you stay at and decide that if you came back to the area you wouldn't stay anywhere else. Maggie greeted us and showed us our room - the Treehouse - a second floor room on the property. She was very sweet and informative and really made us feel welcome. This inn is for adults only and quiet is strictly enforced. It's located about 6 or so blocks from the main drag in Ojai, a short walk through a residential neighborhood. Our room was clean, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was huge with two sinks and an old style bathtub and modern shower and several wooden dressers and cabinets filled out the room. Skylights, art pieces and a fireplace added to the comforting feel. Oddly they do not provide complimentary water as most inns do but they do have the typically overpriced snack bar. A basic complimentary continental breakfast is provided in a small room next to the swimming pool. If you're looking for the perfect place to stay in the area or just want a peaceful weekend getaway, this is the spot! read more

This is a family business. I happened to sit next to a couple at a bar for dinner one night, and they turned out to be the owners. One of them is an architect and from the conversation I learned that the business was built from a love of Ojai and designing a great space. Over my trip I met one of their sisters and a daughter working at the property. Pros: 14+ years and older property, which makes it overall a quiet and laidback stay. They had very good recommendations for wine tasting, food and hiking. Walking distance or close drive to a couple of hiking trails. 6 Blocksish from the main part of town. Cons: Bed was uncomfortable, felt like it had body impressions that I kept rolling into from lots of use...or maybe it was just lumpy? Breakfast isn't included - this is probably the first b&b or hotel that I've stayed at that didn't include at least a continental breakfast. For the rates of the rooms at this place, its even more surprising. They have a 9pm quiet rule, but not everyone observes it, and the windows in the rooms are great for light, but not so much for noise. I was jolted out of bed late one night because some guy decided to pace in front of my room (which has lots of windows and a French door entrance) talking very loudly on a cell phone. Overall great location, rooms are large and clean, staff was great and had great suggestions. If I had slept better than it might be 4 stars. read more

We found this gem for our anniversary. Didn't even know it existed!!! We booked the Treehouse room, which I hear is the best room! Located upstairs surrounded by the beautiful trees on the property. No adjoining walls with anyone, it sits above the main office. But we had no noise coming from there at all. The room is large with a really comfy bed, a sink, fridge and microwave. Large bathroom with claw foot soaking tub, huge shower and double sink vanity. The entrance has a patio with chairs, which was nice in the mornings for coffee. Decor is amazing. Lots of unique pieces. The grounds are gorgeous with all the trees and greenery. There is a pool and hot tub, which my husband used. They have a room near the pool that has coffee, snacks, water, board games, movies. We didn't utilize it as we brought our own snacks and our own coffee and percolater (I'm "extra" like that! ) Nighttime is magical with the lit lanterns and little lights (although our lanterns in our patio were not working). There is also a 9:30 pm quiet time which is nice. Staff was nice, but not "friendly" (if that makes sense). They seem to be all business and don't really go above and beyond. One thing they should be aware of (and maybe nobody has mentioned this to them) - the pepper tree above the patio drops A LOT of stuff!!!! The patio was a mess with all the droppings by the time we left (we were there 4 nights). Housekeeping came to straighten up our room 1 day while we were there (our request) and they never swept patio. Which was obvious it needed sweeping. Also maybe an umbrella cuz the tree kept dropping twigs and leaves in my husband's coffee!!!!! We opted for the $25 breakfast for two. Which fed us for 2 mornings, but I do think for the price it should be included. Reading previous reviews it sounds like pre-pandemic breakfast was included???? Overall it was a wonderful stay. We met friends there and it was fun and like I said... the grounds are gorgeous! Walking distance is the Farmers Market on Sunday. Also a great little cafe for breakfast called Three Birds. You can also walk into town if you feel so inclined. Tres Hermanas is a great lunch/dinner place. We did love the room and grounds so much we will definitely be returning!!!! read more

We have loved staying at the Emerald Iguana (and sometimes Blue) for many years while visiting our mother for one or two days each month. The staff has been wonderful to us. BUT this week, after a three night stay at the Emerald Iguana, we reserved a night at the Blue Iguana. Then our mom died (at age 100) the night before and so we didn't want to stay in Ojai any longer. I called them early in the morning to tell them we would not be staying and explained the reason. They refused to refund our $430 dollars because it was their right to do so because we hadn't cancelled 7 days ahead. I am so disappointed in them. And angry as well. We have been such loyal guests and the owner must not care one whit about that. I call that disgusting behavior toward people who have been so loyal . read more

I'm updating my review for this place. As is mentioned in my last review, there were stains on the bathrobe during our first visit. Then, during a subsequent visit, I found the robe in my room to be stained, AGAIN! This time it looked like someone had hopped in the robe right after a massage and sat down without showering, leaving a perfect imprint of a massage oil coated tuchus on the robe. I also found other people's clothes in the drawers/cabinets during several stays. Why, after these experiences, do I keep coming back, you ask? Because, despite some housekeeping issues, this place really is truly AWESOME, from the bohemian architecture to the thoughtful touches to the absolute peace and tranquility of the grounds. Every time I come to Ojai I look at several other places, and always end up booking here, wanting to give them another chance! And I'm so glad I did, because I've just returned from my most recent stay and it was truly perfect, hence the updated rating. I feel that they have finally upped their housekeeping game, probably due to Covid. No stains on the robes this time, no random clothes in the drawers. They left a thoughtful note and box of truffles on our bed (we were celebrating our anniversary and they had this date on file). We had such a great time we ended up booking an extra night in a different room, and they were very accommodating, letting us switch rooms right at checkout. ​This has become my favorite place to stay in Ojai, and I can confidently say that I will return! read more

Came here for a couple of nights in December to getaway. I stayed in the Treehouse. The location was a bit tricky to find, but is an easy walk to the town main strip, so all good. There was contactless check-in and check-out. I ordered the breakfast basket and it was a nice assortment of items. My only complaint is that they said reservations for the hot tub were needed, so I made some, only to get there and have them say they weren't honoring them (so basically, it was a free-for-all, but I was able to find some times when it was empty, so it worked out.) The room was a good size, with a nice large free-standing tub, big bed, fireplace, and private patio. I would be interested in going back and seeing what it is like post-pandemic. read more

The Emerald Iguana was an amazing experience for me and my husband on our two night getaway to Ojai. Lauren greeted us warmly upon arrival, gave us a tour of the grounds which was very sweet and had some great recommendations for restaurants (go to The Duchess for a Burmese dinner, you will not regret it). We had a wonderful time in the treehouse room which had everything we needed - Bed and sheets were so soft and comfortable. The welcome room has complimentary snacks, extra coffee and tea. The hotel is very peaceful and well maintained. Absolutely recommend! read more

We have visited for several years. It was our fault to use booking.com, their portal for room reservations. Basically, despite what the Emerald has on their website, they will not help you rebook if you have health concerns (yes Covid). Booking.com takes no responsibility either. So if you do plan on visiting I suggest calling the front desk the old fashioned way, because you won't get any sympathy or money back from either party if you do it online. read more

A B&B where no kids are allowed? Sign me up for life! OK so you have to be at least 14 years of age to be here..and realistically, what parent wants to take some bratty assed, ungrateful teen to a place like this? It's a paradise resort type place.. It's meant for peace and serenity. If you go as a group, and you stay in the main house area, there are 3 suites that could be connected through the hallway and even share bathroom facilities. However, since we were a solo couple staying in the Toad room, those other doors were locked and we had our own bathroom. Our room was situated close to the pool/hot tub area..so it was nice to be able to look out and scope if the pool was occupied before treking over there. We got a chance to sit in the hot tub for a while till we almost passed out from the heat. But, it felt great! We had a lil patio area in front for smoking (420) and no one seemed to mind, which was cool because that was a concern of mine prior to coming, as I have a prescription and need it before bed and in the morning :) Our bed was SO comfy.. I was bummed that check out time was 11 am, because I could have laid in bed all afternoon. When in the common area, I felt like I needed to whisper, which usually might bug me, but I really liked it.. I liked that there was this non-spoken rule of peace and quiet throughout. The staff was awesome and super laid back. They fed us a continental breakfast in the morning with bagels, croissants, juice (wish it was fresh squeezed) and coffee..etc. It was pretty much Costco stuff, but considering a big hotel chain would charge you $10+ for the same breakfast, I was super pleased with it. There are times I say I'll be back to a place, but I never really go back. However, this is one of those times I say I'll be back and I mean it. You've been warned Emerald Iguana.. Perfect! The Emerald Iguana is a real gem (to use an overused pun). We were looking for a place to escape to from Los Angeles for a cleansing retreat. We wanted quiet, spacious, private, comfortable and relaxing place. I knew about the Emerald Iguana from staying at the sister property the Blue Iguana (Blue allows pets, has private yards too BTW). So, I checked and to my delight, the Gecko Cottage was available. The rooms and cottages are very reasonable. If you want similar but a little less money, the sister property the Blue Iguana is a great choice. The Emerald Iguana property is small, secluded (tucked away at the end of a residential street) and meticulously landscaped and kept. While it is secluded it is only a 3 minute walk, to the main drag (Hwy 150) where all the shops and restaurants are including the Starr Market where you can stock up on food for the lovely kitchen in this cottage. There is a pool (not heated year round) and a jacuzzi. You can have breakfast there in the breakfast area, sit poolside with your coffee or enjoy your OJ in the Jacuzzi. The Gecko Cottage is HUGE and totally stand-alone = no common walls with anyone. It has a positively lovely outside back yard accessible from the gate in front or through the master bedroom. The two bedrooms are on opposite ends of the cottage. Perfect if you are two couples! The master bedroom has a shower and a large vanity area. The 2nd bathroom is located across the hall from the 2nd bedroom and has a bathtub. It is an AWESOME set up. The master has a king bed and is HUGE, the 2nd bedroom is very nice and the Queen bed is really big. The living room, kitchen and dining areas divide the two bedrooms and are great common areas. The pool and Jacuzzi are just steps away. The bathrooms have the usual blow dryers, robes, ample towels and basic toiletries. My b/f said the lotions were AWESOME! What I loved is they had enough light to do your makeup. The 2nd bathroom has a great skylight, too. The kitchen has everything you need, big fridge, microwave, tea kettle, coffee maker, stove, dishes, silverware, glasses...the works. There is a lovely basket of treats in the kitchen, which since we were doing a juice only cleanse we took back to the office - too tempting! The staff leaves at 7pm each day, but the Blue Iguana staff is available until 10 should a problem arise (like you lock yourself out). There are TVs in the bedrooms and living room, albeit they are kinda small and not HD, but who cares we hardly watched any TV. No phones in the room, so have a cell phone (who doesn't these days!). The housekeeping staff are quiet as can be and very efficient. The front desk girl when we got there was managing everyone checking in at once, running people to their rooms and handling locked out guests all with such grace and consideration. Keeping the order of arrivals in her head and doing orientations to us all. Very impressed. (we arrived on 1/19 and c/o on 1/21). We went for the in-room massages and I am so glad we did. Fantastic! Allassandra was amazing. We did back-to-backs instead of a side-by-side couples massage. It worked out better. We did the massages in the Living room. Free Wifi, too. Waze gets the directions right! Go Waze :) Loved that the cottage had a guest book which we signed and read what other's had written. Very cool. We can't wait to come back. My b/f said the Gecko at the Emerald Iguana is like "home away from home" - he loved it. Know before you go: The Jacuzzi takes about 30 minutes to heat up if no one's been in it. The Emerald Iguana is quite lovely really. It's hidden away on a tree lined street but close enough to walk to downtown Ojai. The grounds of the inn are lovely, with shade trees, sculptures, a small poll and a hot tub. Included is a continental breakfast with pastries, fruit, coffee and such. We were in the Grasshopper room. It had a super comfy king bed but the layout was kind of strange with a toilet/shower stall and then in the room was the tub and the sink. I didn't really like the set up. The toilet/shower was incredibly small space and not very comfy to dry off in. The rest of the room is rather large and spacious though and there is a nice patio with table and chairs. Although the website says that most rooms have flat screens, we had a very tiny TV. I would honestly recommend a different room. The service is great though, very friendly and helpful and we liked coming back to the candles lit outside our door and the quiet of a peaceful inn. read more

The atmosphere around the grounds of this inn would be my number one reason for returning to the Emerald Iguana. The inn is in a very well maintained and groomed garden setting while giving the impression that the garden is somewhat wild and overgrown. They have a very nice continental/complimentary breakfast around the pool area with a good selection of fruits and pastries. One small drawback is that it is difficult to get ice when main office is closed/unoccupied. All the rooms are in a beautiful, peaceful setting, having a private patio attached to our room was a bonus. We stayed in the Feather which was nicely decorated with a slight middle eastern flair, clean and inviting. The staff is extremely helpful, friendly and accommodating. The grounds are extremely peaceful and quiet. We were rarely disturbed by any kind of noise at all. One of the onsite managers was kind enough to show us around a few of the unoccupied rooms so we could consider potential stays in the future, but on a different day, another manager was very concerned that a guest might arrive to check in and would see that we were being shown their room, so she was unable to let us see the room we were considering for our next trip - even though it was 11am and check-in wasn't until 3. not a deal-breaker by any means, but it would have made a great stay even more perfect. read more

If you want rest and relaxation with a special someone, this is the place to have it! We stayed at the Raven (the 2 bedroom cottage) and it was just lovely! So quiet and peaceful and we loved the light breakfast by the pool provided each morning. The staff is wonderful and wants to please their guests. Just ask them a question and you will have whatever you need answered. They will provide you a local map of the restaurants and you can merely walk to anything off the main strip. Only suggestion is that make sure you rent your DVD's or bring some of your favorites with you because they have flat screen TV available in the main living room, but they only had basic Time Warner Service (only PBS and etc). Cute little inn that's showing its age. Rooms and infrastructure need updating. Pool and hot tub are both tiny and not very clean. WiFi is too slow and unreliable to use. There's a small TV, an old DVD player, and a CD player (unplugged or broken?). The ceiling fan didn't work (dead remote?). No EV charging on-site, although there are plenty at Boku down the road. Amenities are very basic, like free granola bars and freeze dried coffee (ick). The location is nice and quiet, walking distance to town. Parking is free and easy. Overall not a bad spot, but definitely not luxurious. A solid three stars. read more

My bff and I celebrated our 60th birthdays this year with a weekend getaway in Ojai. I picked the Peacock room at the Emerald Iguana for our stay. Wow! This was exactly what a couple of L.A. gals who grew up in the 70's would dig. It has a Bohemian Moraccan type decor, private patio with fountain, full kitchen, bathtub with claw feet -all up our alley. The grounds at the Iguana are lush, green and beautiful. You feel like you are in an enchanted fairytale. The staff was very friendly and gave us info on a couple of great hiking trails off Shelf road, recommended AA massage in town for a fantastic inexpensive massage after our long hike. Then Nocciola for dinner ' lovely and delicious. Went to the farmers market on Sunday and bought all kinds of healthy organic goodies. We were happy with all of their suggestions. We had the best weekend celebrating our life long friendship and the Iguana was the perfect place for us former hippie chicks! read more

Very affordable pricing. They have DVD's and the pool/hot tub is beautiful. They give snacks and drinks for breakfast. It is so charming and beautiful. It felt very clean. The rooms are nice and pretty. But I don't like the way we were treated. We had gone up there for a romantic weekend and my GF was going to get a in room massage. She was super excited for it. When the person was more then half an hour late, I walked to the office to ask what was up. And they had no idea that the girl was late. A small B and B should know if the person was in or not. Then the girl told me that she was going to be another hr late. We were on vacation and didn't want to spend an afternoon waiting for some one that was super late. so I canceled. The girl was sorry and wanted to know if I wanted a key chain. I thought was lame. I did not like the snacks they had in the room either. It was all major company candy bars, nothing local. Same with the lite food in the morning by the pool. Nothing local. The jam was the same jam you get a Ihop, gross. we thought they could try a little harder at making the place nicer with little things. The rooms and the place are nice and clean, but customer service was really bad. I have told a bunch of my friends that wanted to stay here, and told them to check out other places. read more

This place is truly incredible! We tried to book the Treehouse room but it was booked so we ended up in the Morroccan themed room. It was gorgeous and exotic. The guests were quiet and also all seemed to be happy to have found a great hotel FAR off the beaten path. Breakfast of fruits and muffins was served by the pool, tucked away behind trees and flowers. This place feels like a fresh escape. Close enough to downtown Ojai to experience the fun there, but far enough away to find peace and relaxation. read more

Okay, so I know you may be looking at my reviews and thinking, "Whoa, this girl is way heavy with the five star reviews" -- but, hey, maybe the reality of the situation is that I'm only truly motivated to write about places when they are very very good, as opposed to some folks who are motivated to write only when they encounter a situation that is very very bad. Or maybe the reality of the situation is that you would never say the word "Whoa" much less think it, and you have no idea what I'm talking about. In any case, the Emerald Iguana deserves five stars, no matter what my mental state at the moment I write this. I came here with my friend Julia because for some strange reason I have wanted to enjoy a long weekend vacation in Ojai since I was a about 12 years old. Maybe it was the memory of my Mom -- my crystal-loving self-help 80's Reverend of the Church of Divine Man (that's the church of the Berkeley Psychic Institute, in case you were wondering) Mom talking about it in some reference to a spiritual nudist massage crystal healing retreat she attended, or maybe because I read about it as the location for the film Lost Horizon, and it was a iiteral Shangri-La, or maybe it was because I was a big Jennifer Jason Leigh fan in the 90s and I read about how her sister ran away to the circus in Ojai. Anyhow, I wanted to go there, and it was my turn to pick a location with my travel buddy Julia. She is a Libra/Scorpio and I am a Scorpio/Libra and we work so well together. So picked Ojai and found this place online, and boy, it really delivered. The only slightly strange thing that was on the website it said we had to check in at the sister hotel the Blue Iguana, and the directions lead to there, but when we showed up there they acted like we were a little crazy and told us to check in at our actual hotel, which is the nicer one that does not allow kids or dogs. Don't get me wrong, I love dogs, but any hotel that does not allow kids, therefore allowing a much more enjoyable experience in the sauna and hot tub as well as over all - is a hotel for me. Aside from that there was no weirdness in our visit at all. Strictly top shelf all the way. The first night, Saturday, we had the Grasshopper room, which is also the smallest and cheapest, and the only one still available for that night that was not a large suite that two gal pals did not need. On our second day there, the lovely lady working at the desk (sorry I don't remember her name) offered us a free upgrade to a large suite (Cricket) bigger than either of our apartments back home. It was hard to say no so we didn't, but in the end we really loved our sweet Grasshopper room the best. Check out the photos online and you might feel the same. Still, we enjoyed a lovely 2 nights here at the cheapest rate, and had two televisions so we could watch Golden Girls in stereo. Yeah! Golden Girls rock. The hot tub was LOVELY in the beautiful patio, and the pool was cool (this was January, folks!), but fun for a hot to cold dip. Nice breakfast buffet. I will also say that we both enjoyed an in-room massage from Elizabeth that was one of the best both of us have ever had. Yeah! Ojai rocks - especially if you like Spanish architecture, citrus, and historic California. Also, I accidentally came home with one of their robes (it was Mercury Retrograde), which I plan to send back, and they didn't charge me for it! read more

This place is amazing. It feels like an oasis, hidden away from the stress of life. There are cabins with one room attached in case you would like a bigger place. We rented the Peacock. It was larger than our apartment. There was a large kitchen, small nook for dining, large moderately sized living room, lovely bedroom with a bath tub; bathroom with sink, shower and walk-in closet, and a separate room housing the loo. It was great. Probably the most romantic place that I have ever stayed. All of the cabins/rooms surround the pool and hot tub. The place is filled with luscious green plants and flowers. The staff is very friendly and helpful. And they serve a lovely breakfast in the morning. Definitely call ahead as it is hard to get the room of your choosing. read more
