We decided to take a 3 day weekend trip to Ojai from Oceanside. After doing a bit of research, we decided the Lavender Inn was the ideal place to stay for our group of 2. It lived up to its excellent reputation. It is ideally located if you want to explore the downtown area, being just off of the main strip - so you are close to everything, but not dealing with any of the noise. The building is old but well renovated. The room was perfectly sized and had all the amenities we needed. Breakfast was delicious with coffee, juice and freshly baked items. We'll stay there again next time we're in town. read more

This BnB is beautiful! The grounds, the common areas and the room was great. It is an old house so expect squeaky floors and sticky doors. They put out a bottle of wine for the guests and there's an honor bar. Breakfast was just pastries that were store bought and sourdough bread. The fireplace inside and out is very cozy. What a beautiful place to stay! We absolutely loved our stay here. We stayed in the tree house room which was perfect for 2, one caveat was that this room had a shared bathroom. Everything was super clean and the rooms had all the amenities needed. We opted for one their specials and loved the flowers and champagne, such a great touch! The breakfast was asp perfect, they have a different sweet everyday day and the food when we were there consisted of hard boiled eggs, lemon loaf, banana bread and all the fixings!! We had a nice stay. It was a quaint kinda feminine place. My wife loved it. It has a beautiful garden and common areas. The room had a balcony facing the garden which was nice. It was nice to leave the door open during the day. My only complaint was that there was no exhaust fan in the bathroom. And the guests can hear each other quite a bit. These problems are common in older buildings like this. read more

I've passed by The Lavender Inn whenever I stop by Ojai for the day and bookmarked it as a possible place to stay if I ever decided to overnight. Well, I saw they had a package deal and I called to ask for it, that's a good enough reason. Unfortunately, that deal had already been taken up but I was given a discount code for a later time. By that time I had a dog and while they are dog friendly, the cottage was already and they only have one room in the house that allows pets. Fortunately, that was available so I pulled the trigger on it. First the location is great, it's right in the middle of downtown and they let you park there before check-in and after check out so you can walk around comfortably. They don't just allow pets, but they're pet friendly. What's the difference? Well they provided a water bowl, treats as well as some individually wrapped poop bags, a thoughtful and surprising touch. They also let my pup go around their yard space which is bigger than it seems with a couple of quiet nooks that seem to appear. I also used their onsite spa for a massage in their gazebo. The massage was great with focus placed on the problem areas I mentioned. Really the only minus was during my visit the breakfast was pretty limited, basically some pastries but that banana bread was terrific. read more

I stayed here in January with my granddaughter & had a very bad experience. I gave the owner ample time to address the issues we experienced at the inn. I have heard nothing from her. So if you already read my granddaughter's post, you know that we were woken by the occupants in the room next to ours having loud rough sex throughout the night. Ours was the only room sharing a thin wall with that room. So others may not have been disturbed by those occupants & what we experienced, but we were woken multiple times and it was an extremely upsetting night for us. I was hoping for a charming experience when I picked the Lavender Inn. We stayed there after our wonderful spa treatments at the spa on the property, in celebration of my granddaughter's birthday. It's right across the street from a great Italian restaurant too. But this inn was a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. Sadly, there are no employees onsite during the night, and the inn's number just goes to voicemail. So we were left completely on our own and it made me realize that if there was a fire or crime onsite, we would have also been completely on our own until first responders arrived. Another issue I had with the inn was that when I booked I was told that all of the rooms iwith private bathrooms were sold out. So I called and asked that they let me know if one of those rooms canceled, because we'd prefer a private bathroom. When we arrived I was told the inn was still full. So what I found super upsetting the next morning was that there actually had been an available room, but no one ever double checked or followed up to offer it to us. If it was just me, I would definitely be mad about the things we experienced, but I probably wouldn't have taken the time to post anything on Yelp. However the impact on my granddaughter and her birthday - even still - really upsets me. She was woken from sleep repeatedly with the wall vibrating, their bed frame banging against the wall & floor, loud moans & cries, At one point we heard glass breaking. Initially it sounded like a fight and I nearly called 911, but then I realized that it was just very loud crazy inconsiderate sex. I had my granddaughter move to my bed, away from the wall, but that didn't solve the problem and it just kept erupting throughout the night and in the morning. It would stop briefly if I banged on the wall, but then started again. Every time it did, we just felt trapped & on our own. If Ojai wasn't such a tiny place, I would have left and gone to another hotel. But we weren't familiar with the area and felt stuck. It was very traumatic for my granddaughter. The place is cute, and the young women who worked at the inn were very nice & understanding, but no one was there to help us during the night, and the young woman in the morning couldn't do anything after the fact. When she came to work, She did hear the morning round of the banging furniture & noise through the floor in her office downstairs, and she heard my voice mail messages, so she knocked on their door, but they ignored her. So if you stay here, be aware that the staff leaves for the night at around 5:30 PM. Be aware that night calls to the front desk don't go to a service, they just end up in voicemail. Also, the walls are VERY thin in the room that shares the hallway bathroom. And be aware that the owner never made any attempt to apologize or follow up with us after our stay. Even though we loved our spa treatments next door and though the place was cute, the breakfast was just so-so, and the owner didn't seem to care at all about our experience. read more

A really lovely place. Old craftsman mansion that has been lovingly restored. The manager was very friendly and kind, and really made us welcome. The outdoor areas are just gorgeous with lush plantings, tons of flowers, butterflies, fountains and ponds. It truly is gorgeous. And they have kitties!!! The only complaint that I had, is that each room does not have its own thermostat. At night it got a little warmer than I would've liked in my room. I would not have minded, except that the windows were inoperable. A nice breeze would have been nice and would have allowed me to sleep a little better. They really need to fix the windows. I just loved this place and want to go back. It's an old house that they made into a B&B. Not a ton of rooms. We checked a few out, they were all decorated so beautifully. And had great little balconies. The grounds are peaceful and so pretty, lots of places to sit and relax, read a book or have a drink. The location is perfectly situated, easy walk to everything. Free, convenient parking right in front. Super easy check in and out. We didn't get breakfast, which I think they served pre-covid? Great place to stay if you want an awesome getaway in Ojai. stayed here a couple of nights during early july 2020. During COVID-19 so great care was provided for the minimum exposure to guests. The house is cute with a great garden. Great ambiance and a wonderful setup. We had room number 1, which is by far the smallest room. There is a good shower and a nice bed, and a wonderful patio that overlooks the street. A great place to hangout and relax. As it was during COVID they did not serve breakfast, but gave us a bottle of wine and there are lots of small stores in easy walking distance from the house. I really wanted to love Lavender Inn. I used to live in Ojai and always wanted to stay there. We have long-since moved and decided we wanted to spend our 25th wedding anniversary there. First the good: Beautiful grounds with 2 resident cats who are so sweet and well-behaved (my cats now have no excuses for their naughty behavior) and great location. The bad: I have been to many Bed & Breakfasts. Even in 2020 during Covid we stayed at B&Bs and were served amazing breakfasts. But this place decided (at the last minute???) to not serve breakfast. Yet they still dub themselves as a bed and breakfast. I had seen reviews from stays only 2 months prior to ours raving over the full fare breakfast so I have no idea why they just stopped. Instead of the full fare they used to offer, they put out some cold sliced bread and cold butter (no microwave), dry, tasteless blueberry bread and OJ. Oh and hard boiled eggs. I have had better offerings at cheap motels than this. At most hotels you get cereal, milk, fruit, yogurt, pastries, and coffee. Some of the better ones have eggs and bacon and waffle makers. But for a bed and breakfast to suddenly eliminate breakfast and replace with continental fare, they should at least offer what the cheap hotels do. It would have still been disappointing but at least not insulting. I read many reviews before booking and here is what the staff said to another review: "Regarding our breakfasts, we're the only accodmodation in Ojai that serves a FULL Breakfast in Ojai. Food writers have written about our dishes, made with local, fresh ingredients. We cater to all diets - vegan, vegetarian, high protein, and gluten free. Not only are we (innkeepers) amazing cooks, but we are a culinary school. Chefs and innkeepers teach and create culinary recipes in our professional kitchen." If they changed from Bed and Breakfast to just Bed they should have let me know at the time of booking. Their prices are way too high for just a bed. Also the breakfast (bread and butter, that is) was from 9 to 10. Coffee begins at 8:30. Now they did have a Keurig if you wanted coffee earlier than 8:30 (I'm up by 5). For a place who offers coffee so late in the morning, they could at least have a self serve station with packets of cream and sugar. Our first morning there was a lot of fumbling around and then going out for coffee as they had no choice but black coffee. So after the coffee debacle we made sure to be back in time for breakfast only to see we get bread and butter. I was livid. We went across the street to Sage and the food was amazing. Then there is the Wine and Cheese hour that they decided to do away with the cheese. Not even crackers nor nuts. Just wine. If I wanted ice, I had to find someone who worked there and they would have to get it for me. Kind of weird and since staff was scarce, we went to the store for a bag of ice. It was really very hot while we were there so iced water was a given (but not given if you catch my drift). And speaking of hot ... The rooms are on the second floor and food and ice aren't the only things skimped on. The AC barely worked upstairs and we had no ceiling fan. They did have a small fan in the closet we used. The second night we actually figured out how to prop the windows open so we could get some air. I was looking forward to turning in my keys so I could express my disappointment in the lack of breakfast (I would not have mentioned the other things as they are minor in comparison) to the innkeeper but no one was there. In fact, no one ever once asked how our stay was or if there was anything we needed. I had no idea who were guests and who worked there. If there was someone in charge, I never met them. Seriously...I'm a brat when it comes to hotels and this place always meets and exceeds my expectations. Ojai is already a magical place and Lavender Inn is our go to for a weekend getaway from LA to recharge. We're always welcomed warmly, everything feels very clean and well cared for and the big beautiful backyard is so peaceful and inviting. We usually stay in the Topa room because it's dog friendly. It's small but so cute and has a balcony overlooking the main street in town. Our chiweenie runs around the inn and yard freely and made friends with the resident pup, June Carter Cash. The wine and cheese hour is such a nice touch in the evenings and breakfast in the morning is always fantastic. You're also literally right in town so can step outside the front door and find nice restaurants and lovely little shops. Don't blow it and stay somewhere else that's a little bit cheaper! We booked a last-minute trip and luckily got the Blue Meadow room. Very cute and quaint inn within walking distance of downtown Ojai. The continental breakfast had toast, hard-boiled eggs, fruit, juice, and pastries along with tea and coffee. You can enjoy your meal on the backyard patio and might get a friendly visit from the black cat, Mister. They have centralized AC and a ceiling fan in the room so we never felt too warm. I think it's a very cozy inn, the rooms are pretty close together (like you're staying in a house), and for the most part, was pretty quiet. They have wine hours as well but we weren't able to take advantage of this. Check-in is closer to 3, and the only thing that can be a bit of an inconvenience is the innkeeper may not be on the premises the whole time (and may sometimes be "late" coming back on the property - e.g., we tried to check in around 2pm but the sign said they would be back by 2, but they didn't come back until closer to 3). Heard great things about the Ojai Day spa next door and would love to try that next time! read more

We checked into this bed and breakfast on Tuesday, July 2nd 2024 for the 4th of July weekend. We were aware that there was a heatwave coming so we called to ensure their air conditioner was in good working order. Upon check in, everything appeared fine. The house is beautiful. The first night however was 78 degrees in our room. Unfortunately, our vents didn't even have air coming through. The windows wouldn't open either. We think the heat made the wood expand. We found fans in our closet but they were so loud that we couldn't talk or watch tv as the volume would most likely disturb our neighbors. The morning after we mentioned it as did some of the other guests. We went out enjoyed the day and in the evening returned at 10:00 to find it to be 82 degrees in our room. We were miserable. Again another night with fans so loud on either side of the bed making conversation, tv or anything else for a romantic impossible. After 2 sleepless nights and a warmer day ahead of us, we notified the inn worker that we will be checking out early. She confirmed our vents didn't work and apologized profusely for the issue but our stay was ruined. Sadly after contacting the owner, they denied a refund for the 2 nights we stayed (not even a partial) and still charged for the additional night we didn't stay. They claim that the air conditioner was working. But that last night would most likely be over 85! Who can claim the air conditioner is working? For $255 a night, I expect it to be comfortable enough to sleep. Enjoy tv and conversation with your significant other. Not here. Very disappointed with this place and the owner's response to our concerns. Don't go here, they don't really care about your experience. Sad. Stay at the Emerald Iguana. Never had issues there. Air conditioning is functioning there. Should have gone there, just thought we'd try somewhere new. Costly mistake. read more

I had been excited to come here for about a year after stumbling upon the Lavender Inn website and felt so lucky to snag a one-night stay, when the usual minimum is two nights. My friend and I drove up from LA last Friday morning for Saturday's Lavender Festival and decided to check in a little early at the Inn. The guest parking lot was convenient, and Beth warmly greeted us. One of the inn keepers showed us around the first floor just before her shift ended, and then we brought our luggage up to our Tree House room. The view to the garden was just beautiful--the windows were huge and allowed for us to see everything outside below. There were also two robes in the closet, two Ghiradelli chocolates on the nightstand, and a pitcher of water with glasses. It took us a beat to get over the size of the bed, as we were expecting at least a queen, and I didn't realize until I scrolled through their site on my phone that the Tree House room is indeed a double bed room. It ended up being super comfortable, and I'm not sure that a bigger bed could have even fit in the room, as it was pretty small. Adorable, 100%...but just small. We weren't crazy about sharing a bathroom but figured it would be fine, which it was, until the next morning when we waited for 10-15 minutes just to use the restroom and brush our teeth. The fountains, kitties, flowers, hammock, and variety of places to sit and enjoy the property were wonderful. Wine and Cheese hour from 5-6 was also really nice, and having the spa right next door was so convenient. I have to say though, the one thing that was really disappointing was breakfast the next morning, which we were told was a buffet from 9-10. We arrived at 9:27 to find a few slices of a frittata remaining, one avocado/pesto item left, a couple scattered potato pieces, and a fruit/yogurt/granola section. We didn't immediately see an inn keeper or kitchen staffer to turn to, and then I poked my head in the kitchen, which looked pretty clean, almost as if they were done cooking, had put everything away, and were almost ready to leave. I asked the one lady in there if there were anymore potatoes and avocado/pesto items, and she gave me a nervous look, saying she would check with someone. She came out again a few minutes later and still seemed unsure, so I repeated myself. We picked a table outside and about five minutes later, a different woman, presumably the one in charge, approached our table. Our conversation went something like this: Staff: "Did you need something?" Me: "Oh, yes! There weren't anymore potatoes or the avocado/pesto item. Do you have anymore?" Staff: "We have no more potatoes and the other item was for our vegan and gluten-free guests." Me: "Oh. Ok." Staff member coldly walks away. No apology about running out at 9:27 when breakfast goes to 10:00, no warmness, no kindness, no offer to provide something else. My friend got the last avocado item, and the way the woman spoke to us implied some kind of "these were only for gluten free people anyway" tone. No question of whether we had any allergies or restrictions. I thought the whole point of selecting a bed and breakfast over a hotel chain was for the hospitality and feeling at ease by the setting and the smiles. Certainly not the case here in the morning. There's also no yoga, which is mentioned on their site, but they do have yoga mats outside. And when we went back up to the room after eating, there were a few people literally just standing in the hall, waiting to clean rooms, which made us feel weird, like we needed to pack up and leave so that they could start their turnovers. It's hard not to let that one breakfast encounter dampen my thoughts about The Lavender Inn, but I just had such high expectations of how sweet everyone would be, and her attitude just made me feel crappy. Sometimes having a business in a gorgeous setting isn't enough, and you really do need to make sure your customer service and friendliness are on-point. Making people feel special is just as, if not more, important than the surrounding area. read more

Bottom line: I wouldn't stay here again. This inn advertises as a "bed and breakfast," but be forewarned, they DO NOT serve breakfast. Therefore, you are paying for something not received. Check out all the pics before Covid occurred. Eggs, potatoes, fresh fruit, etc.....they have a nice kitchen which isn't being used. Why? My guess is that the owner puts very little money into this place and simply cannot afford to offer what was offered before. Just look at the pics pre-Covid and my breakfast pic to see the difference. I had to beg them to make a reasonable effort to give us some sort of breakfast. All they could come up with was store-bought oj and some muffins/scones. Compared to what they used to offer, the value just isn't there. They tried to "console" me with a bottle of wine for each room we rented. Guess what? That wine costs very little nad has poor reviews. We didn't even take it home. The owner told me they are taking down the "breakfast" part of the website, but as of this writing, they haven't. Maybe the FTC needs to hear about this place. This place isn't all bad. The staff members here were quite helpful and attempted to make our stay as comfortable as possible. It does give off a homey/serene vibe, I'll give it that. And, our room was clean, as far as I could tell. Mr. Hope, the resident cat was wonderful and I really wanted to take him home! Other issues. Like previously mentioned, the inn is in great need of maintenance. Cracking beams (either termite or dry rot), cobwebs everywhere, and the gardens are not maintained. Foliage grows everywhere and isn't trimmed. See my pics. Our room has a nice view of the gardens but look up and cobwebs are everywhere. And, the lights in the hallway, bright as they are, are on 24/7. The light leaks through the doors and makes for a lit bedroom. Not conducive to sleep. The provided soap is the size of a silver dollar and almost as thin. I've seen more soap at an econolodge! Finally, before leaving, I dropped off our keys. The staffer on duty said thanks but didn't say "thanks for staying," or "how was your stay," or "was there anything we could've done to make your stay better?" They really don't appear to care at all about your experience there, which is contradictory to "excellent customer service." read more

If you see Tricia S. review, it's pretty right on. The Inn is gorgeous and the grounds are amazing!! Loved my room with balcony overlooking garden. Common rooms are comfy. My husband and I had been there several years ago when they had full amazing breakfasts. I want to be sensitive, as I know COVID was so hard on people financially, and maybe it really hit the Inn hard. I don't know. But breakfast was a big disappointment and very minimal. I basically had 2 hard boiled eggs and a piece of toast every morning because I don't eat sweet breads. I was there a few days and DAILY I heard the complaints from the other guests. I think they were expecting a little bit more, as I was. Also "wine hour" was a disappointment. Just a couple of bottles put out, as the staff left for the evening. It just looked sad. I thought it all needed a bit more effort. Updating the website would also be helpful. A suggestion... a keurig for coffee. Some people like EARLY or EVENING coffee. AND utensils, paper plates, extra cups etc. Every evening I saw guests looking through the drawers and cabinets looking for extra things, and there was nothing. And no one around to ask. How about collaborating with local businesses? Wine from local wineries with a coupon for wine tasting for guests? Collaborating with local markets?? Restaurants? I'm sorry if the Inn struggled with all the loss. It's such a gorgeous place. However, it feels like the effort towards the guests was lost. I'd love for it to get back to what it once was! I am finally writing a long overdue review of the Lavender Inn! My husband and I had our perfect garden wedding last summer at the Inn and it was a magical experience that we will never forget. From the start, we were welcomed to the Inn with open arms and a smile. Beth helped us navigate wedding planning but we were given full autonomy to make decisions that aligned with our vision (and budget). One of the downsides of the venue is the lack of catering/rentals, however we were able to save money by utilizing a caterer within our budget. We used Lorraine Lim catering and Ventura Party Rentals and the entire experience went without a hitch. Our guests are still raving about the entire wedding experience: from the incredible/unique ambience, to the wonderful food, and smoothness of events. My only suggestion to the Inn is to continue to make updates to the interior of the rooms. The cost is top dollar and some of the finishing touches could use a little updating. If you are looking for a special wedding experience that feels like YOU, the Lavender Inn is the place to go. We loved loved loved the Lavender Inn. A few weeks ago we were at the Ojai Farmers Market and peeked in the windows of the Lavender Inn. Linda, one of the innkeepers saw us and asked if we wanted a tour. She was so sweet and walked us around the small property. That evening we booked our stay. We booked the Provence Cottage (since we had an infant with us, the Inn asks that any children or babies stay in the Provence Cottage as its separate to not disturb the other guests). The cottage was a two room suite with a private entrance as well as an entrance from inside the Inn. It has two tvs, a bathroom with full tub, a wet bar with fridge, and fresh flowers in vases all over. The cottage has its own private garden with a few tables, chairs, fountain, and even an old chandelier hanging from the tree. Each night there was wine and cheese served in the dining room which most guests enjoyed somewhere in the large garden and patio of the inn. There were figs, cheeses, crackers, meats, and a bit of fruit with a red and white wine each evening. For breakfast, there was local homemade granola, a variety of breads, fresh fruits and berries, and each morning we had potatoes and onions as well as an egg dish. We both loved the breakfasts. Everyone was very friendly and the location is perfect. We did not move our car once during our stay. We walked right next door for the Farmers Market and each day walked to lunch or dinner and even brought pizza back to enjoy on our patio one night. My husband and I just got back from our first anniversary bed n' breakfast weekend where we stayed at this ADORABLE inn! The inn is just beautiful and the backyard was really relaxing. We stayed in the tree house room which was cozy, too cozy for my preference but it was the only room available. They serve breakfast from 9 - 10 every morning and the breakfast is AMAZING! I could not believe how delicious the food was, exceeded my expectations. My only complaint (which is why I gave 4 out of 5 stars) is that our bed was squeaky so that was awkward. What an amazing B&B!!! We stayed in the Provence Cottage which is dog friendly and had a beautiful time there enjoying the private yard and having our breakfast there in the mornings. I would never stay anywhere else in Ojai. read more

Even better than last time because we were in the 1000 square foot private cottage with a private garden. WOW! This is where we will stay annually for our anniversary. Already booked for February 2024. So happy to meet Beth who is the manager since she wasn't there when we stayed last time. She is a gem. Also Melody who checked us in and out and Laura who was up front the second day. Kaylee the masseuse is alao awesome. Genevieve and Conchita the housekeepers as well! The baker who comes in (sorry didn't get her name) to make luscious home baked goodies for the continental breakfastn is a pro. Yum! Had a super special birthday weekend away at the lovely lavender inn. Super grounds to enjoy close to everything including the farmers market about 100 feet away on Sunday. Staff was great and the spa was extra special as well. I would definitely recommend staying here if you are ever in Ojai. read more

I chose Lavender Inn because I was looking for dog-friendly places to stay in Ojai. My husband and I, and our two Shih Tzus loved the Provence Cottage. It is beautiful and spacious with a separate living area and closed in garden. The bed was super comfy as well. We will definitely be coming back to stay! read more

By far our absolute favorite getaway, anywhere! My husband and I have been coming to the Lavender Inn for years and years and years! Sometimes celebrating a special occasion, sometimes just a little quick getaway...it's the place we retreat to most when needing a little respite. The location is ideal, we shop at the market across the street and dine at our favorite restaurant just across the parking lot. Sometimes we don't get in our car for days! The Sunday farmer's market adjacent is always a treat and the Ojai spa around the corner is a must! We also enjoy our sunrise hikes at nearby fire roads a quick drive away. If staying in exclusively, we spend countless hours in the garden relaxing, or playing a game of Chinese marbles or reading in front of the fireplace in the parlor. The breakfast leaves you trying to figure out how to recreate it at home because it is such a culinary delight - a true sensory pleasing experience with such beautiful attention to detail. They always accommodate our special needs diet and attend to us with top-notch quality service! We also love that the staff turn over is so low, we always come back to the same smiling familiar faces! read more

Full disclosure--I did not actually stay here. We had our babymoon booked for this month, along with a spa day. Things were so crazy with the new orders, I wasn't sure what was going on. This review is for the amazing owner and staff that kept us updated and were very informative. We decided to cancel our trip altogether. At the time of booking, Ventura County was still allowed to outdoor dine, and we felt ok about getting facials and massages. With the region now being at 0% capacity and the new orders to stay at home/no outdoor dining etc. we decided that if we went, it just wouldn't be the same. I am more disappointed than anyone that we are not getting our babymoon, which we had been looking forward to for months! They were so understanding, immediately sent me a confirmation of cancellation and did not charge anything for cancelling. They were so wonderful and accommodating through all of this, I am really hoping to stay here at some point (post-baby babymoon?) read more
