I walked in and was greeted by warm staff and although the furniture is older everything is very nice. The staff was very helpful and professional. My room was wonderful, it was clean and just perfect, with a nice patio overlooking the park, although there's some homelessness there, that's not the hotels doing. There's a jacuzzi that's nice and hot which we also enjoyed to unwind a little. We enjoyed our room so much (it had a fireplace) that we wanted to stay another night but it unfortunately was not available and we opted for another room which was very roomy with lots of windows. Again, I was grateful to the staff who was very helpful and professional in getting up situated and comfortable in our new room. We have enjoyed our stay immensely. The hotel is in a great location in Ventura, just off Main Street and just far enough off the freeway and close enough to the beach to walk too. I would definitely return and highly recommend!

Our recent stay at Hotel San Buena was nothing short of exceptional. While the property itself is…read morebeautiful, what truly distinguishes this hotel is its people. Hospitality is not simply a service offered here--it is the very heart of the culture. From the moment my husband and I arrived, we were greeted with genuine warmth, welcoming smiles, and a level of kindness that immediately made us feel valued as guests. Every interaction with the staff reflected a sincere commitment to hospitality, professionalism, and guest satisfaction. It is evident that caring for others is not just part of their job description; it is something they genuinely embrace. We would especially like to recognize and thank Bridgette, who welcomed us upon our arrival. Bridgette went above and beyond to ensure we knew our way to our room, had everything we needed, and felt completely comfortable from the very beginning of our stay. More than that, she made us feel as though we were home for the night rather than simply guests checking into a hotel. Her warmth, attentiveness, and genuine care exemplify what exceptional hospitality should be. Her guest service is truly stellar and deserving of recognition. Beyond the outstanding service, the location is ideal. Hotel San Buena is within walking distance of the heart of the city, providing convenient access to a wonderful variety of restaurants, shops, and local attractions. Whether you are looking for casual dining, upscale cuisine, or something in between, the diverse selection of nearby restaurants offers something for every taste and preference. The property itself is absolutely stunning. Rich in historical architecture and character, Hotel San Buena offers a unique experience that blends timeless elegance with modern comfort. From the moment you walk through the doors, you are transported to another era. The attention to architectural detail, charm, and preservation of the building's history create an atmosphere that is both sophisticated and memorable. Perhaps one of the most refreshing aspects of our stay was discovering that the hotel is exactly what it appears to be on its website. In an era where photos can sometimes overpromise, Hotel San Buena exceeds expectations. The beauty, character, cleanliness, and ambiance showcased online are an accurate reflection of the experience guests receive upon arrival. Simply put, it is beautiful. An additional feature we greatly appreciated was the secure, guest-only parking. Knowing that parking was safe, well-maintained, and reserved exclusively for hotel guests provided an added sense of comfort and peace of mind throughout our stay. The team consistently goes above and beyond to ensure every guest enjoys a comfortable and memorable stay. Their attentiveness, positive attitudes, and genuine care create an environment that feels welcoming, personal, and authentic. For anyone searching for accommodations in the area, my husband and I wholeheartedly encourage you to make Hotel San Buena your first choice. Whether traveling for business, leisure, or a special occasion, you will find a property where exceptional service, beautiful surroundings, historic charm, and heartfelt hospitality come together seamlessly. In an industry where genuine hospitality can sometimes be difficult to find, Hotel San Buena stands as a shining example of what it means to make guests feel truly welcome. We leave with wonderful memories, deep appreciation for the staff, and every intention of returning in the future.

Service, simplicity, cleanliness can make all the difference. Owner is of South Asian ancestry and a very nice guy who checked me in on my first stay around 9pm. He gave good instruction on everything and was professional and pleasant. This is a great location if you're in town to visit Channel Islands (10-15 min drive to either Ventura or Oxnard Harbor to take your ferry over to the islands) but also this motel is close to the Ventura Pier and downtown Ventura. Can take a nice walk to beach and downtown. What I like about this motel is that the rooms are all on the ground floor and you can park right up to your room, this makes for very easy unloading and loading especially if you got a lot gear, which I did. Rooms are modern and have been renovated and upgraded. There is a small fridge, and bed was comfy. I did wish they had a microwave and coffee pot available. I then checked in again a second time as the campground I tried to stay at was just too loud for me and when I returned the second time, owner recognized me and was happy to see me. He even told me to book directly and can save money. He put me in the same room and it was clean and what I needed. What was exceptional about this place is that the morning I left, I mistakenly dropped the room key and my credit card together in the key drop box. Within 10 minutes of leaving, the owner called me. I didn't recognize the number and didn't pick up, but he kept calling and on the 3rd try, I knew I probably should answer and thank goodness I did, because he told me I left my card. I then went back about 15 min later to pick it up and he was very nice and smiling. I am quite thankful that there are still good people out there looking out for others. I'd definitely stay here again and know you're supporting a small business but also the room was very decent and I like the layout of this motel. This place is well worth your money, don't hesitate to stay here.

A true beach town motel. Everything looked very clean and you can tell this motel has been renovated recently. The bathroom had a shower but no tub, which we never use anyways, and the restroom functioned well. We loved that they had plenty of outlets. While they had a little fridge they did not have a microwave. My only complaint would be the amount of light that came in so imagine my surprise when I got up in the middle of the night and noticed the shade that completely darkened the room. Oops, THAT WAS MY FAULT. Great after I found the blind.

To begin this place is very charming my husband arrived first then I came shortly after. The first evening I noticed I woke up with itching but didn't think much of it. After the next morning we woke up to major yard work cutting of the palm trees and a whole lot of noise without notice just a knock on the door that if our car was parked near by we need to move it. The final day I woke up to being bit by a bed bug I jumped out of bed and noticed I had one crawling on my night gown and panicked I went thru all of our luggage and woke him up to get up and on the bed we seen another 2 crawling on the bed. I was dumbfounded trying to figure out what it was since the office doesn't open until I don't know because I had to leave for work at 7am and Noone was there so I let my husband take care of the situation. By this time we still didn't know what those were. Once my husband decided to check out he said he went to the office and spoke to an office manager/owner and he showed her the bugs and her response was she had no idea what they were with surprise on her face so my husband being as kind as he is believed it. Now we come here and see this is not the first time this cause for concern of bed bugs is brought to their attention and it's clear there isn't anything being done about it. It hardens my heart to leave a review in this manner as we really loved this place but to find out this is an issue never addressed is cause for concern their return policy didn't take care of all the belongings we had to throw away because we are not sure we didn't bring any home with us. !!!PLEASE TAKE CARE OF THIS YOU HAVE SUCH A BEAUTIFUL PLACE THERE IT WOULD BE A SHAME IT'S NEGLIGENCE WILL CAUSE FOR IT TO CLOSE DOWN. The location is excellent -- close to Main Street and within easy walking distance of restaurants and shops. The staff was very friendly, and the property looks like it has been recently renovated and freshly painted. There are nice updates throughout, and the little garden patio is a pleasant place to sit. We booked a room with two queen‑size beds, but the room itself was quite small, and the bed we slept in was definitely not a queen. It felt like a standard double, which made it uncomfortable, especially with my husband being a larger man. The mattress itself was also extremely uncomfortable and left both of us with back pain. Once we settled in, we noticed several maintenance and cleanliness issues. The bathroom tile walls hadn't been cleaned -- my husband was able to scrape dirt off with his fingernail. The electrical outlets were so old, that they didn't hold the plugs anymore, the plugs kept falling out, mismatched, and in poor condition, which stood out even more against the fresh paint. The toilet had a standard bowl with an elongated seat that didn't fit properly, and the bolts were rusted. The ceiling fan wobbled violently because the blades were unbalanced, and it made a loud clicking sound whenever it was on. The continental breakfast was also disappointing. There were a few tiny muffins, almost‑empty orange juice, and a single slice of bread left. It didn't appear that anyone monitored or refreshed the breakfast area. Overall, while the staff was kind and the property has charm, the room quality and maintenance issues didn't match the price we paid through Hotels.com. With a few improvements, this could be a great little inn, but as it stands, it felt overpriced for the experience. I am giving it 3 stars, but it maybe should be 2 stars.
