Garden paradise

We are still talking about how perfect the location was to downtown and Santa Barbara Bowl! Stayed in Tweedledee unit of the Carriage House, which has gorgeous view of the garden along with separation from the main houses. We came into town, checked in and promptly left for the 311/Dirty Heads/Rome concert. Short Uber drive back to the comfortable, clean, quiet space. Woke up and delighted in the garden quietness before breakfast. Would LOVE to plan another trip just to stay longer and see more next time. Memorable location and amazing hosts!

This charming bed & breakfast made my trip to Santa Barbara even better. Cheshire Inn is located on a quiet, safe street. It's within a few blocks to the State Street Downtown. The place itself has ample parking with additional parking around the block. The inn has two houses and additional cottage units separated across the parking lot. You enter via the garden - the garden is tranquil and a great place to enjoy the free coffee and tea they provide. I booked the MadHatters room but got (free) upgraded to the Alice room because it was a relatively slow weekend. The Alice room had plenty of space for two, it offers a King bed, ample closet space and a small patio. It was kept really clean and I enjoyed the small touches - Molton Brown minis, a strong hairdryer, luggage rack, ice bucket, and champagne glasses (upon request). The staff here were incredibly attentive, fast, and personable. They were able to accommodate our requests of different pillows and request for robes. They offered breakfast in bed when I said I wasn't feeling well. The breakfasts in bed were a highlight - delicious, hearty food to start the day. I also enjoyed the small touches such as cookies in the living room. I would definitely come back and stay here for a relaxing, quiet weekend.

We had a stay in for 1 night in November for our Anniversary! This place was super cozy, and clean! The breakfast was delicious!

Caroline was so sweet and showed us to our room. It was such a beautiful room. So glad we stayed at this bed and breakfast definitely will come back when we visit SB again. Miss it already

The Cheshire Cat Inn is a delightful bed & breakfast located near the upper end of State Street just over a half mile from the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. The Inn is themed around Alice in Wonderland and features 14 guest rooms plus 4 cottages. My wife and I stayed two nights en route to a wedding in SoCal, and another night during our return trip to the Bay Area. We lodged in the Woodford Cottage during our trip to SoCal. It was nicely appointed and super clean. Our hosts, Caroline and Andrea, greeted us warmly and they were very accommodating throughout our stay at the Inn. They made every effort to ensure our stay was comfortable and relaxing. Our cottage was spacious... 628 square feet... and clean. The morning meal features either a Continental breakfast or a warm dish like Quiche Lorraine. Our breakfast also included some local history and Santa Barbara lore provided by the Inn's owner and chef, Simon... entertaining and informative. The homey vibe and friendly staff made our visit a memorable one. We will return. Did I mention the Inn is very clean? P.S. During our drive back to the Bay Area, my wife received a text saying that the staff had found her necklace. The necklace she didn't know was missing until she got the text. Thanks, Cheshire Cat.

We had such a great time here! Everyone was so nice, breakfast was delicious, communication was great and they answered all my questions. We are definitely coming back here. It's a few blocks away from State st. where all the action is but the area where the Inn is is so tranquil and relaxing. They have good quality toiletries, nice hot running water, coffee and water stations downstairs. You don't need anything else. There's a guest book in the room where we stayed and it was so touching and special to read others stories from past stays and then write our own!

Backyard patio. Just lovely!

Wonderful stay! Absolutely wonderful stay. We stayed in the Woodford cottage, which I recommend! It's your own little house to yourself. The main house was also beautiful with a lovely back garden. The cottage had 2 bedroom, kitchen living room! VERY CLEAN! Quiet, safe neighborhood! Host were lovely and breakfast every morning was fresh and delicious! Very close to everything but far away to be nice and quiet. If you need a place to stay in Santa Barbara stay here!!

We loved the antiquity with modern conveniences and the references to the storied cat. The rooms are charming. The staff is efficient and pleasant. The breakfasts are scheduled by you (with only two options*) and they are well prepared. The gardens around the manor are beautiful and well maintained. There is a parking area off the street. The A/C got us through a warmer than expected spell, and the patio off of the room is a great place for reading. The location is off of the busy main drag, with walking distance to many of the restaurants. We would stay here again, next time we are in Santa Barbara. *Our only complaint was the lack of "cheese less" breakfast items.

Very cute hotel and kind staff. We were in the Mock Turtle room - it was perfect for a couple. We were able to walk down state street to dine and explore. They also had a nice courtyard and breakfast was included. I would recommend the inn to SB visitors.

Cheshire Cat Inn is your home away from home. We enjoyed our stay and hopefully can come back soon. The place is in a quiet neighboorhood and is walking distance to State street where alot of shops and restaurants are. Highly recommend the place. Andrea and Simon are very graceful and accomodating.

Queen of Hearts Room sitting area

Absolutely loved my weekend stay here! The Cheshire Cat Inn is so charming. Located in a quiet neighborhood, but walking distance to State Street (10-15 min). Ample parking, clean, home away from home feel. The staff members were so kind and accommodating! They upgraded our room to the Queen of Hearts which featured a private patio and entrance. Additionally, we communicated a few days prior to our reservation about my dietary restrictions, and they were able to accommodate for breakfast. Would definitely come back here on my next SB trip.

Wonderful! Beauty and comfort combined. Family owned B&B offering a variety of rooms for your stay. We chose the Alice Suite in the 2nd home and it was exactly as pictured on their website. We only stayed one night but will definitely plan a longer stay in the future. Breakfast comes with the room price and is superb! The gardens are welcoming and serene. Thank you to the wonderful staff for their hospitality.

It's a very large old home turned into a bed and breakfast. There are lots of common rooms, nooks & crannies to get comfortable in, a nice porch and patio. So comfortable. There is always coffee, tea and water. At 4pm they put out homemade cakes, brownies and cookies. I devoured a slice of coconut and lemon cream cake with a large coffee. At 5:30pm they put out wine. We enjoyed two glasses sitting on the patio. We chose the Abigail room on the second floor. I think it's the only room with a king size bed. The room was very cozy. The bathroom was tiny, but I respect the challenge of fitting a bathroom to each guest room, when the house obviously wasn't built with that in mind. The bed itself was very comfortable. Breakfast was healthy and tasty. We had breakfast on the patio. 10 out of 10 experience at the Bath Street Inn for us. Thank you!

When in Santa Barbara, I highly recommend. (My photos show breakfast across two days, spinach quiche one day, the other item with a strawberry on top the other)

When we planned another trip to Santa Barbara this year, there was no question where we wanted to stay--we booked three nights at Simpson House Inn again. I can honestly say our experience was even better than the first time. From the moment we arrived, Olivia gave us such a warm welcome, and Frank immediately took care of our luggage and escorted us to our lovely Garden Room. One of the highlights of our stay was enjoying breakfast each morning in our private garden, surrounded by the relaxing sounds of the fountain and singing birds. It was the perfect way to start the day. Everyone we encountered--from the front office staff to housekeeping--was genuinely kind, professional, and welcoming. The attention to detail and the peaceful atmosphere make this place truly special. We highly recommend Simpson House Inn and can't wait to return again!

There is no nightly happy hour with wine tasting and there are no bikes available to borrow from the inn. Seems that there have been changes potentially in management that have decreased the offerings which make the stay seem less luxurious and in my opinion not consistent with a 5 star stay. When we inquired about borrowing bikes we were told to go rent bikes from a shop downtown. Although breakfast provided was tasty, Simpson House consistently did not pay attention to our dietary requests that we had made note of in our reservation, called in advance to notify the staff, and put daily on our breakfast requests. We were served food and drink that we could not eat daily even after we had brought it up with management. Although the grounds are beautiful, the attentiveness and offerings do not seem to be what they once were, and for the price nightly price of $600, I would look at other hotels in the area.

Nice little hotel near the beach. My issue is the amenities. The website states the rooms have AC, mini fridge etc however our room had no AC just a ceiling fan and box fan? The weekend was very humid so it was very hot in our room even with the box fan and ceiling fan it was hard to sleep bc of the temperature in the room. I mentioned this during check-out and the front desk staff immediately became rude stating that the room doesn't have AC and if we wanted that we needed to request a room with AC specifically when we book the room via the website (which there is no option for that) We stay in SB a lot. The venue has a couple of rooms in the main house (where we stayed) and then several standalone cottages. Overall our stay was very pleasant. The staff were very friendly and accommodating to our needs. Since I was getting up early to do the ride, they made an egg croissant the night before for me to eat in the morning. Breakfast was served on the back patio and the standard was coffee, juice, fresh fruit parfait and an egg dish (in our case an egg bake with vegetables). While our room was pleasant it felt dated. Everything was clean, but newer sheets and bedding would be appropriate. In the main house, there is a living room and dining room, but they are not available for customer use. The living room has been turned into an antiques area with items for sale. Beautiful pieces (like Quimper), but I would have preferred to use the living room in the evening. The dining room table has been converted into the check-in area, so I was also unavailable for guest use. During the rainy season (such as it is in Santa Barbara), they may use the dining table in the main house for breakfast, but we did not see that setup. I think the guest experience in the cottages would be much better. In our case, we could only enter the main house and go into our room. Overall, great staff, good breakfast, pleasant but dated accommodations. Also it is very quiet as the property is in a residential neighborhood and is surrounded by high bushes.
