I highly recommend staying @ Simpson House Inn. It's a nice located B&B inn close to downtown Santa Barbara. Frank and his staff are so nice and helpful. The breakfast-wine & appetizers ,Plus delicious baked goods are also a BIG PLUS+. It's a beautiful place to kick back and relax. It's just about two hours out of Los Angeles. You won't be disappointed! I can't wait to book another stay!

Truly the best B&B I've ever visited. We were greeted right when we arrived, and had a tour of the grounds. Everything was so beautiful and well-maintained. Hailey was so friendly and answered all of our questions. We arrived just in time for the complimentary afternoon hors d'oeuvres and wine. It was outstanding - a lot more than you would expect. I had enough food that I did not need dinner. Our cottage, the tack room, was stunning- amazing bed and linens, soft radio music, a couch with a fireplace with wood, table and chairs, coffee machine and fridge, closet, luxury shower and vanity, and shutters that actually block the light. We also had chocolates on our pillow. If that wasn't enough, they also serve cookies and tea at night! We were delighted. Breakfast was good as well- coffee, french press, and juices available. Not to mention pastries and fruit, oatmeal, granola, eggs, and toast. It was really nice. Highly recommend. If we visit Santa Barbara again, we would come back here.

Totally hidden Jewel in Santa Barbara, close, but not too close to State Street. Beautifully arranged and equipped cottages, embedded in wonderful garden landscape. The whole atmosphere reminded me a lot of old and classy English places with lovely and personal attention to the guests. The room was equipped with a full kitchen, which we did not have a chance to use, a fireplace, and an extremely comfortable bed. There was a wine and cheese reception in the evening which we unfortunately had to give a pass due to our upcoming reservation at Caruso's, but next time, I will definitely keep it in mind. After a wonderful sleep, there was a beautiful breakfast, by choice either in the library-style dining room, or outdoors on the porch. The only regret that I had was that I had not been able to book one or two additional nights. So please do not tell anyone how great this place is that it will not be booked out next time!! Pssssst - it's a secret!

The Simpson House is a restored Victorian home that was built in the 1800s on quaint and well kept grounds. We stayed in one of the cottages off of the main house that was built in 1924 (and restored and renovated). It was the perfect blend of the old and the new. Your comfort is never sacrificed but you still feel transported to another time. The grounds and buildings take you back to a simpler time, and you are invited to just sit down and relax on the grounds in one of their many lounge chairs or benches. The gardens are impeccably kept and filled with fountains to give you a soundtrack to relaxation. The Inn is a bed and breakfast, so they serve a complimentary breakfast everyone morning. Gratuity is not included but the service is top-notch so you don't mind. Every afternoon is hors d'oeuvres and wine, also included. And they had a lot of food! The location is gear toward couples and would not be ideal for families or kids. The service is excellent no matter who you talk to! Everyone is so friendly and willing to help. My only comment is the walls are a little thin, but that can't be helped. We so enjoyed our stay! Will definitely recommend and be back if we are ever in the area.

Small bites every afternoon with wine

This Inn is a 4 star Hotel, however it should be a 5 star! There is a beautiful garden surrounding the house and every food and hors d'oeurve we ate was absolutely delicious and gourmet made. Excellent customer service by the whole staff. Will be coming back for sure.

Recently stayed here for a weekend getaway with my wife. It was everything we wanted and more. The grounds were beautiful, tranquil and relaxing. We reserved a private cottage and absolutely loved it. The room was clean, charming and well maintained. The staff was amazing and very accommodating to questions and requests. The breakfast was wonderful as was the nightly wine and orderve serving. The overall grounds are spread out enough that even at full capacity you can ALWAYS find a nice spot to sit and talk or have a drink in private. There are several wonderful fountains as well as amazing landscape work to enjoy everywhere. All while still being only a few minutes from the beach as well as shopping or dining. It truly is a great little gem.

They have a garage that opens around 8 or 9 AM (they don't open it too early because the garage door is loud for guests) and has free stuff for you to use including beach cruiser bikes, beach lounge chairs, towels, beach toys, umbrellas, and more. The lobby has snacks (granola bars, bananas, orange, etc) that were accessible during their hours (they close at 9) as well as a water machine from which you can fill your aluminum water bottles from your hotel room. I liked how they didn't use plastic trash bags, no plastic bottles, and no plastic soap containers. It seemed that they were really eco-friendly. We interacted with 3 hotel staff members and all were helpful and friendly. They gave us a list of kid-centric things to do. We stayed in unit 8 which had a queen bed and a living room as well as a kitchenette. The kitchen had everything we needed and the tools were clean, new and orderly. The unit was clean as well. The palm trees in the middle of the parking lot are nicely lit at nice. The water pressure in the bathroom was super strong. I liked that the bathroom had a window as well as the kitchen. Some rooms have a small patio door in the back. From our kitchen window we could see plants and flowers. Outside of our room there were cute tables with lots of flowers as well. It's a great location and walking distance to the beach. The bad: We accidentally went a few blocks down from here to Harbor View Inn first and then realized our mistake. Two different hotels! The bathroom is on the small side. The interesting: The parking lot is small so they don't allow big trucks/vans. If you check-out before 7:30 am (like we did) then you will leave your keys in the mailbox out front by their office.

Kimpton hotels are very pet friendly and that always gets extra stars from me. They don't charge any pet fee or have size restrictions and if you ask them, they will provide food and water bowls for your stay. As someone who always travels with her dog, that adds a lot of value for me. This location even told me that, while I couldn't bring the dog to the restaurant on site, I could bring her to the nightly wine reception. I did not ever end up attending one but it's the thought that counts. The location was great. It was about a 15-minute walk to beach and we did walk to Stearns Wharf multiple times during our stay. It typically took us about 10 minutes to walk to one of the many restaurants in the area that we had decided to go to each time. There are lots of coffee shops, wine bars and places to eat within walking distance so we ended up leaving our car parked for most of our stay. I believe the valet parking was an additional $50 or $60 a night but you do get in and out privileges. We just found that we didn't need the car much to get around on our visit and in the time it takes to have somebody pull it out for you, you could have already walked halfway to your destination. The amenities are nice. They have a rooftop pool, fitness center and then their complimentary coffee, etc. I did not end up taking advantage of any of those because I travel with my dog, so I can't speak directly to the quality of any of them, but I know most people appreciate having extras like that. Our room was cute and comfortable and felt very cozy. It was honestly probably smaller than I expected for the price point, but it had everything that we needed and I was happy with my stay. If you need a pet friendly, walkable place to stay, and you aren't on a super tight budget, I would definitely recommend looking into this hotel.

We used a credit card that offers "free upgrade" but you never know what that will mean. @ the Kimpton Canary it meant an extremely nice room. Large sitting area, with Nespresso coffee maker, refrigerator and large tv. The king size bed was in a room by itself overlooking the courtyard with fountain. The bed and linens were very comfortable. The bathroom has a separate shower, tub and toilet areas. Bath salts included. Robes and slippers in the closet. Amenities like AM coffee in the lobby or afternoon wine hour are nice to enjoy. The music is jazzy cozy heartfelt inviting. The decor is very chic, modern but not pretentious. Spanish tiles and colorful furniture. Service is a standout. A note in the bathroom said ask for what you need. So i tested it, asking for a lip balm by text and it was sent to the room. I also asked, Ingrid for a bottle of bubbly to be sent up with a birthday card to surprise my wife. It was delivered and made a grateful impression. A couple cookies and another note as well. It was absolutely worth it. The staff was genuinely friendly and helpful, and what really stood out was their text-based concierge system. They text you before arrival, and you can ask for anything during your stay -- they respond quickly and clearly. Honestly, that alone made the stay feel effortless. They even had the car ready before we got downstairs. It felt like having a pocket concierge. The view was fantastic, noise levels were low, and the beach is literally across the street, right at a crosswalk. We spent a lot of time on the balcony -- the room was large, the patio was generously sized, and we loved reading out there with the sounds of birds and seals in the background. Beds were very comfortable, the bathroom had great water pressure, and the jetted tub was basically a sauna -- a huge plus after walking all day. Free water bottles in the room were also appreciated. We ate at Convivo onsite -- it was fine, solid food, but a bit pedestrian flavor-wise. That said, there are so many excellent places to eat in Santa Barbara, and we walked to several without any trouble. Very walkable area for both beach time and dining. For car lovers: there's constant classic car and hot rod cruising along the beach, which was fun to watch from the balcony. It's not cheap, but it's reasonable for the location, room size, and level of service. But only stayed one night for the wedding. The other nights that we stayed were at another hotel in Santa Barbara. This Hilton hotel I'm giving one star more than the other because it is a Hilton. 1) Completely out dated. It looks like it's something out of the 90s. They can at least buy new furniture. The carpets smell. Everything smells very musty and old. The front desk when you check in is very small. We actually walked right by it because we didn't even see it. It was that small. For such a big hotel you would think that they would have a bigger front desk for their guest to check in and out of. For this to be a Hilton, they need to spend more money on renovation. 2) We could only stay one night because of how expensive it was. We were expecting a lot more for the price. When we entered the room, the linens smelled, and again the carpet smelled very musty. We called the front desk. It took them forever to answer the phone and when they did, they had an attitude about changing the linens. It took two hours for them to come to our room to change out the linens thank God they did because the second set of linens did not smell. 3) The staff all over the hotel were completely rude and aggressive. It didn't matter what department they were in. If this was a rundown Motel 6, then that would be one thing, but it was a Hilton in Santa Barbara facing the ocean. 4) When it came time for the wedding it felt great. It felt organized. I'm not sure if that was the Hilton staff or not. but I know that the catering was the Hilton and that was not organized and that staff was horrible and aggressive. For instance, taking your food while you're still eating. And giving you attitude if you say that you're still eating your dinner. 5) When it came time to use the downstairs restroom my wife stated that the downstairs restroom was filthy, and there was paper towels all over the ground. 6) Which brings me to my next point, this Hilton Hotel felt very understaffed. I could keep going, but the point is that my wife and I do love the Hilton family hotels, but this place is not the best Hilton out there. We will not be back.
