We first stayed at Simpson House Inn almost 16 years ago, and over all those years we never forgot this beautiful, peaceful place. When we planned another trip to Santa Barbara this year, there was no question where we wanted to stay--we booked three nights at Simpson House Inn again. From the moment we arrived, Olivia gave us such a warm welcome, and Frank immediately took care of our luggage and escorted us to our lovely Garden Room. One of the highlights of our stay was enjoying breakfast each morning in our private garden, surrounded by the relaxing sounds of the fountain and singing birds. I would absolutely recommend a stay at the Simpson House Inn. The staff and accommodations are wonderful. We booked the entire venue for an weekend company event/holiday celebration and everything was perfect. The rooms are quaint, cozy, unique and interesting, yet have what you need for charging phones etc. by the bedside. Bed linens: soft and luxurious. The main house where breakfast is served is wonderful. Speaking of which, breakfast was great, the pastries in particular are fantastic. Our event was held both indoors and out, with tables, chairs, a bar and our outdoor dinner buffet all arranged in the garden area, and we then moved inside to continue the party. The staff was extremely helpful, friendly, gracious and professional throughout our stay. We were truly impressed by the property staff and grateful for all their assistance helping us pull off this event. We were celebrating a major milestone and everyone had a great experience. So a huge thank you to Hayley and everyone at the Simpson House Inn for a truly magical weekend. And just a quick side note, the property is in a quiet residential area but walking distance or a short drive to various downtown restaurants, etc. If you have little kids (which we do, and brought along), there is a wonderful park within easy walking distance that has one of the best playground areas I have come across. The wooden play structure is huge, intricate, with slides, bridges, twists, turns, and swings. My kids LOVED it and had the best time there. There is a tiny amphitheater in the middle of the wooden play structure and when we visited on Sunday afternoon a magician showed up and put on a brief performance for all the kids. At the end of the show, he sold balloon animals so he was of course trying to make a living (and every kid attending wanted one of course!). But he certainly earned it in my opinion and the kids had a great time. I should probably disclose though that they do not generally allow munchkins, it is adults only, but given that we booked the entire property for our company we were able to bring them. Bottom line: if you are considering a visit, I would not hesitate. read more

Truly the best B&B I've ever visited. We were greeted right when we arrived, and had a tour of the grounds. Everything was so beautiful and well-maintained. Hailey was so friendly and answered all of our questions. We arrived just in time for the complimentary afternoon hors d'oeuvres and wine. It was outstanding - a lot more than you would expect. I had enough food that I did not need dinner. Our cottage, the tack room, was stunning- amazing bed and linens, soft radio music, a couch with a fireplace with wood, table and chairs, coffee machine and fridge, closet, luxury shower and vanity, and shutters that actually block the light. We also had chocolates on our pillow. If that wasn't enough, they also serve cookies and tea at night! We were delighted. Breakfast was good as well- coffee, french press, and juices available. Not to mention pastries and fruit, oatmeal, granola, eggs, and toast. It was really nice. Highly recommend. If we visit Santa Barbara again, we would come back here. read more

Totally hidden Jewel in Santa Barbara, close, but not too close to State Street. Beautifully arranged and equipped cottages, embedded in wonderful garden landscape. The whole atmosphere reminded me a lot of old and classy English places with lovely and personal attention to the guests. The room was equipped with a full kitchen, which we did not have a chance to use, a fireplace, and an extremely comfortable bed. There was a wine and cheese reception in the evening which we unfortunately had to give a pass due to our upcoming reservation at Caruso's, but next time, I will definitely keep it in mind. After a wonderful sleep, there was a beautiful breakfast, by choice either in the library-style dining room, or outdoors on the porch. The only regret that I had was that I had not been able to book one or two additional nights. So please do not tell anyone how great this place is that it will not be booked out next time!! This place is dreamy. The cutest little bed and breakfast. Great location with a short 10-15 minute walk to the strip. The fresh baked pastries served all day are delicious. The staff is so accommodating. We stayed in the Katherine McCormick room and it was just fine for us. I was worried it would be too small but it has space to store your luggage. The grounds are kept nicely groomed. The entire property has been maintained really well. The mid appetizer and wine hour is a nice touch as well. Everything they serve you with feels like you're at a rich grandmothers house. Quality service! Down to every little detail. read more

The Simpson House is a restored Victorian home that was built in the 1800s on quaint and well kept grounds. We stayed in one of the cottages off of the main house that was built in 1924 (and restored and renovated). It was the perfect blend of the old and the new. Your comfort is never sacrificed but you still feel transported to another time. The grounds and buildings take you back to a simpler time, and you are invited to just sit down and relax on the grounds in one of their many lounge chairs or benches. The gardens are impeccably kept and filled with fountains to give you a soundtrack to relaxation. The Inn is a bed and breakfast, so they serve a complimentary breakfast everyone morning. Gratuity is not included but the service is top-notch so you don't mind. Every afternoon is hors d'oeuvres and wine, also included. And they had a lot of food! The location is gear toward couples and would not be ideal for families or kids. The service is excellent no matter who you talk to! Everyone is so friendly and willing to help. My only comment is the walls are a little thin, but that can't be helped. We so enjoyed our stay! Will definitely recommend and be back if we are ever in the area. read more

Had a wonderful high tea experience with my mom and sister for an early Mother's Day celebration. We had our choice of many types of tea (and could try different ones), yummy finger sandwiches, a savory plate including stuffed mushrooms, bacon wrapped shrimp and bruschetta, also a beautiful sweets plate with cookies scones and chocolate covered strawberries! Our host, Frank made the day even more special with his wonderful service, knowledge about the home and outgoing friendly manner. Recently stayed here for a weekend getaway with my wife. It was everything we wanted and more. The grounds were beautiful, tranquil and relaxing. We reserved a private cottage and absolutely loved it. The room was clean, charming and well maintained. The staff was amazing and very accommodating to questions and requests. The breakfast was wonderful as was the nightly wine and orderve serving. The overall grounds are spread out enough that even at full capacity you can ALWAYS find a nice spot to sit and talk or have a drink in private. There are several wonderful fountains as well as amazing landscape work to enjoy everywhere. All while still being only a few minutes from the beach as well as shopping or dining. It is a nice historical boutique hotel surrounded by a beautiful small garden. We booked the Robert and Julia room, it is a small room with a tiny bathroom and a big veranda overlooking the garden. Even though some spots in the room looks weary but we liked it. Having the breakfast in the terrace was a beautiful experience. They deliver hors d' oeuvre and complementary a bottle of wine to your room every evening. The parking is free inside the property. The service was good. No complaints. read more

We travel we travel a LOT!! We found our new secret hope this stays a secret gem of a hideaway. We stayed in the Tack room very lovely just as pictured on the site there was people above us you could hear faint steps at times. It's old so that is expected. The inn is just so romantic! Wood burning fire place. You can walk to state street easily there's so much to do yet you are in your own private Idaho. We had our breakfast brought to us you have the option. Food was great. The appetizers in the afternoon with wine tea coffee was just so darling!!! We honestly can't wait to come back. This will be our trip in the colder months for sure!!! Thank you to the staff from Simpson Inn for having us on our wedding anniversary. It was magical I enjoyed it every bit of it. The moment we arrived till the moment we left we got a special gift when we returned the key. My husband and I got there kind of late and we almost missed the evening wine and appetizers which they were phenomenal omg I grabbed a plate took it to my room and place is spic and span. I fell in love with the room and how private it is and the gardens and the water fountains. Disappointed to say the least. Booked this place for a wedding I was attending in Montecito. The place certainly has charm, and the staff was nice, but the price is outlandish for what you actually get. I booked the Abbeywood cottage because it had a Jacuzzi tub with jets in it. Unfortunately, not only did the jets not work, the stopper on the tub was also broken so the tub wouldn't even stay filled. Additionally, there was hair in the shower when I arrived, which makes me wonder how clean the rest of the place was. At over $600 a night, I would have absolutely looked elsewhere if I had known that the amenity that had convinced me to book the room didn't even work. read more

Wow this spot was perfect for our 20 year anniversary. The place is beautiful and the greenery, fountains, service, charm and the little details made our stay memorable. We stayed in the Hayloft and loved it. The fireplace was romantic and all the little details and gifts they left meant so much to us. We were given a wine bottle upon check-in, chocolate covered strawberries were left in our room and a charcuterie plate. We also got a note telling us congrats on our anniversary. We found a place that we will be forever coming to! Can't put into words how incredibly lovely the experience was from the minute we came to the minute we left! The Inn is beautiful! Cute storybook inn centrally located in Santa Barbara! We stayed here for one night in the Hayloft room, which I believe may be the biggest room. The room feels like a converted barn - large cozy room with a fireplace and balcony overlooking the well manicured backyard. The food is very good - breakfast is presented well, very tasty; the appetizer/wine hour has a nice selection of cold and warm small bites. Overall a comfortable and nice stay. And I hesitated leaving a review my first trip as it was so incredibly lovely yet so hard to get in as it's always booked, but this time I can't refuse. Once again I was greeted in the driveway with first class service! They were lovely and polite and gave me a beautiful upgrade. The garden is just heavenly and the rooms are five stars all the way from the gourmet coffee to the Jacuzzi tubs to the ultra soft linens and super cozy pillows. Complementary water and delicious wine at a reasonable price. And then you have the complementary wine and hors d'oeuvres happy hour which is to die for and breakfast in the garden which is beyond heavenly. One of our favorite B&B's we have ever stayed in. Staff was super nice and accommodating. Their rooms were spotless, roomy and beds were so comfy! It's quiet at night and no floors were creaking here. The owners take a lot of pride in their B&B. Breakfast was ok but who cares when they have free wine in the evenings...and it's the good stuff. Their outside grounds are immaculate. We sat in a the gazebo like area and met a really nice couple from the UK. The wine didn't stop and we were out there for hours! Parking was 1 per couple. It's hidden in a residential area and within walking distance to the main strip (restaurants and bars). They offer bike's for free so take advantage and go biking! Lots to see in Santa Barbara! And yes it's expensive but worth every penny. Get on their mailing list and receive specials. Highly rated on Tripadvisor and Yelp. Overall an awesome experience! read more
