If I lived closer to Elvin's Bakery I would visit more often. It always looks clean on the storefront side and everything looks pleasing to look at. You feel like you want to buy one of everything! They have good old traditional pastries and cakes. Nothing trendy, just tried and true baked goods. The workers are always kind and the overall experience is always good. Humble neighborhood gem alert! So far, the 2 experiences I've had were great. Fast friendly service and pastries that made me wanna throw away my jeans and trade them in for a muumuu or sweatpants. The blueberry cream cheese scone rivals Diamondhead Bakery's version. Seriously decadent, with butter and crunchy edges and a moist Center with lots of fruit and cheese niblets. 10/10! And to celebrate me not killing anyone at the nearby DMV (and passing my written test for a motorcycle permit!) I swung through to buy a slice of red velvet cake. It was moist, soft and the cream cheese frosting had a nice twang of sweet yet savory. I recommend! Prices are decent. Tons of free parking. Perfect spot to swing thru, grab food and pick up dessert. Elvin's Bakery is a hidden gem. Located in the Kapalama Shopping Center, there is plenty of parking in this small shopping complex. You would be surprised at the variety of businesses in the area. So... I have came to Elvin's twice since the pandemic. If you are looking for cakes that are semi-sweet, you have to give Elvin's a try. I walked in at 9 am on Saturday to pick up a cake. I usually just pick up their mango mousse cake. When you notify the staff of which cake you want, they will ask if you want any writing on it. The writing is on a piece of white chocolate that they stick on top of the cake. I thought this was a nice touch because it personalizes the cakes. Even though I'm doing a walk-in, it seems like I put in the extra effort because the cake looks so nice and personalized. read more

Never knew about this little bakery on Dillingham. People on yelp seems to love this place and my eyes are definitely bigger than my stomach. The winner is no doubt the strawberry shortcake. Very Japanese style...light and soft. My husband liked the mango moose. Coffee cake had good texture but way too bitter for me. A good option for non-sweet tooth. Tiramisu was not bad but sponge needed to be more soaked and moist with coffee. The Japanese cheesecake was a diappointment to me, since I have tasted so many good soufle cheesecake in Japan. It was just so dry and no depth. I also have tried their ham and cheese croissant and blueberry cream cheese scone. They are not bad, although the scones from Diamond Head Grill beats it to the ground. I was gonna buy some more bread but when I saw a fly sitting inside the case, that was when I was like, ok that's enough. Overall not bad. It has the feeling of unsophisticated old cake shop used to be around when I was little. Cakes nowadays are artwork. Ok I'm giving them 5 stars already just because I'm so super excited!!!! I went there to get a Mother's Day cake. Their Instagram and google both said that they close at 4 and I didn't get there until 4:20, but to my luck, they were still open! And I was able to get the last cake, which was the one I was hoping for, which was a mango mousse cake. They also write on an piece of chocolate for you if you want writing, and put it on the cake. And I was soooo happy and excited to see that they were also selling bread flour! 5lbs for $3 and 1oz packs of yeast for $1 each. I picked up 1 bag of yeast, then 3 then settled for 5, but I definitely would have cleaned them out if I didn't feel so bad about not leaving any for others. Ordered a 1/4 sheet strawberry shortcake and requested that they pack the fruits/toppings separate so I could turn it into a surprise money cake (see photos). I picked up the cake completely blank with only the frosting on, exactly how I wanted it. However, I was bummed that the fruits packed on the side were not glazed which is how they're supposed to be. It was simply a bowl of plain strawberries and blueberries. Also it's a good thing I checked before leaving the bakery because they didn't pack any of the chocolate toppings that is supposed to be included as well. I ended up glazing the fruits on my own and arranged them accordingly. The cake was delicious, however they should have communicated that the fruits wouldn't be glazed; I wouldn't have paid full price had I known. The cakes are delicious but it'll cost you about $45 a pop. Not sure if they do 6 inch cakes anymore. The last 2 x I ordered cakes they only had 8 inch ones available. I've tried the cakes from Elvin's Bakery in the past, but this weeks adventure to Elvin's was mainly to try their baked goods. When walking into this little bakery in the Kapalama Shopping Center, Elvin's kinda reminds me of some of the other Bakery's I've been to, like - Watanabe, Saint-Germain, Dee Lite, & Panya where they have fancy cakes, and pastries. I was working in the Kalihi area this past week when I decided to pop into I Love Country Cafe for some custard tarts, unfortunately they did not have any that day, so I promptly walked out of I Love Country Cafe, and into Elvin's Bakery to check out their baked goods. Upon looking over their selection, I decided to get a Choclolate Spinkle donut, and a Glazed Ring donut. What can I say about their baked goods? Not bad at all, but I think I'd rather stick to Elvin's heavenly cakes instead. Lol! The Glazed Ring Donut was pillowy soft, & not too sweet............but the Cocolate Spinkle donut seemed a wee bit oily to me, because after I picked up my donut off of the napkin I had it on, I saw this big oil spot on the napkin.........YUK! The Chocolate Sprinkle donut was not overly sweet either, but as far as taste, there was nothing outstanding about it. If you ever get a chance to try their cakes, may I suggest the Chocolate Dream cake or the Strawberry Shortcake! YUM!!! read more

Had to get a birthday cake for my Yelp bff and her favorite is mango moose, after asking around I was informed that this is the best place for mango moose and let me tell you, they were not lying! I originally wanted a 6" circular but was told they don't do circular anymore and I got a 6" x 6" square cake which is totally okay! It came with fresh fruits on top and chocolate! They also wrote happy birthday on a sheet of white chocolate and put it on top. The mango moose had really nice layers to it almost like uncle tetsu texture for cheese cake. It was super light and not heavy at all!! I didn't get a super strong mango taste in the first bite, but this isn't a one bite cake lol. As I took my 2nd and 3rd bites I got a more definitive mango flavor. It was nice and light which went well with the cake and wasn't over powering. 2 of us almost polished off the whole cake in one sitting!!! read more

I called the day of the birthday to ask what was available. Elvin's had 4 flavors options in 8 inch to choose from. I was pretty happy with that. The customer service of the lady on the phone was good. She was very straight forward, spoke clearly, and patience. The price for a 8 inch cake mango mouse cake was $35 I believe. I have been to other bakery that charges $2 for writing "Happy Birthday xxx", so I was happy there was no extra charge. The cake quality was good. We enjoyed the texture and flavor. I phoned in my order the Thursday before and the call was promptly answered. When I showed up on my designated pickup time that Saturday a short line had formed outside of the store, being that only two customers maximum could be in the store at a time. But everyone was in and out in no time, and there was still a good selection of bread and cakes left by the time I entered the store. I got my 8 inch strawberry shortcake in no time and picked out a lilikoi and lychee slice just for the heck of it as well. It was packaged with care and with attention to detail, so I knew it would transport well on the way home. Fast forward to Sunday night- presentation was gorgeous and the cakes held well. The cake was indeed, just the way we liked it. Light and airy with a touch of sweet. I also had the honor of diving into the lilikoi and lychee slices first as well. It was love at first bite. I was shocked by how much it tasted like the real fruits, to the point where I opened my eyes wide in delight and did a TikTok dance. The lilikoi had the perfect balance of sweet and tart in between layers of light and airy sponge cake. The lychee was delightful as well. I'd especially get the lilikoi again in a heartbeat. I know now that Elvin's will be one of my default stops for special occasions and for #treatyoself days! read more

Elvin's family bakery is great. They are in a shopping center on Dillingham with lots of parking and I usually call ahead to place my order with a custom message. They don't even make you pay by phone ahead of time. I love their cakes because it's Asian style, not as sweet as say Costco cakes (but not as cheap either) and they have fresh fruit on the cakes. There are several sizes and although I usually only need a little cake, I end up with the large one because I don't plan enough ahead of time. More to share! read more

I've been buying cakes for all occasions from Elvin's Bakery for a solid 7 years. If that doesn't convince you, then I don't know what will, LOL. Elvin's cakes are delicious because they make classic moist cake layered with mousse, more cake, and more mousse, and topped off with a layer of jelly (I think), fresh fruits, and chocolate pieces. I may have a huge sweet tooth, but the best cakes should be light, fluffy, moist, and NOT OVERLY SWEET. I always imagine cupcakes to be topped with sugar frosting, and cakes to be layered with different flavors, and that is what Elvin accomplishes. I recommend the mango mousse cake! The cake itself is vanilla-y and I definitely considered eating that alone because it's that moist and yummy. The mango mousse texture is similar to whipped cream but a bit heavier, and it actually tastes like fresh mangoes (not like the powered kind). The top is not covered in frosting so everyone in the family can enjoy, even the ones that claim they don't like sweets. They also top with with fresh fruits, usually strawberries and blueberries, white/milk chocolate pieces, and their signature chocolate plate if you request to write an announcement like "Happy birthday." Besides cakes, they have breads, buns, pastries, etc.; I have not tried them all, but you can't go wrong with carbs. read more

I have to give Elvin's Bakery props because of their tiramisu cake. I haven't tried anything else so I can't speak for their pastries but the cake was stunningly beautiful! For $33, the price wasn't bad especially considering the decorations came with lots of cocoa powder, fresh strawberries and blueberries, and white chocolate name piece decoration. It serves about 8-10 slices. I even was able to order the cake the day of for pick up. I'm personally not the biggest tiramisu fan but it's my mom's favorite. So I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the flavor! The cake itself is light and not dense and the frosting is airy. I didn't feel like it was overly sweet either. The only thing I would imagine a true tiramisu fan would complain about is that the coffee/rum flavor wasn't strong. My dad picked up the cake for me and reported that the staff was super friendly. He told me he was eyeing out the moon cakes there so I might have to update the review when we get some. read more

One day I asked the counter person @ Nordstroms "How much to buy the whole cake?".
